We took the historical studio tour, which was well done, with a few liberties for drama. The only disappointing aspect was that our tour group had maybe 50 people in a space that would have better held maybe 20. It's worth seeing and hearing, though, and not hugely expensive. The shop sells posters, hats, and probably some recordings, but I felt a bit too cramped to look at the items for sale. After the tour, we walked a few blocks down to see the "sea foam green" building that houses the CURRENT active Sam Phillips Studio. (No tours there, except presumably to paying recording artists.)

Very cool place with a lot of history! The tour guide was very informative...other than that, the staff was HORRIBLE! I, myself work in customer service and there's was by far the worst I had encountered! Being a tourist attraction, I would assume that the majority of clientele you get is from out of state or just in town looking for things to do, as we were. With that being said, your staff could not have been more rude, helpless and self involved! Would not return even if Elvis himself were performing. Yes...it was that bad!

Small building but rich in history. The tour was fabulous. I believe our tour guide's name was Ples, and he was very knowledgeable. The tour starts upstairs (not accessible to my knowledge), where there are exhibit cases full of great artifacts. Ples told us the history of Sun Studio and Sam Phillips. He also played audio clips during the tour. Then the tour goes back downstairs via a second staircase to the original front office and recording room. Photos (non-flash) were encouraged. It was awesome to learn the history and also stand in the same recording studio as early music legends and those that have used it in more recent times such as U2. There's a small cafe in the lobby and merchandise for sale including vinyl records. Anyone who loves the history of rock 'n roll, music legends like Elvis Presley, Rufus Thomas, and Johnny Cash should get a thrill out of the tour, as well as those who love the history of the music industry and cultural heritage institutions in general.

That was really surprising when I saw Sun Records from the side street. That was him .... finally arrived. The roots of rockabilly have been created here. The studio is really great with all the business and bar
The tour through a pretty lively girl made the tour all the more set back. 50s pure. Then in the studio: HEARTKLOPFEN. My emotions switch to fullspeed. I'm in the middle of it! The original Micro gave me the rest ..
Elvis and Johnny forever
Thank you so much

A giant part of rock history started here. The studio is small, the tour isn't the longest, but it's so cool to see that it's indispensable for anyone coming to Memphis, even if they're not a big fan of Elvis.

Reasonably priced at 14 bucks per person and led by a guide who knows his stuff. Wonderfully informative. Sort of like stepping back in time. If you like rock or country or blues, you have to visit Sun Records.

Many consider Sun Recording Studio as the birthplace of Rock N Roll. Starting out as Memphis Recording Services where Sam Phillips is known to have focused on African-American music, Ike Turner and many others have recorded here. Ike turner said that his band actually wrote what is considered the first Rock N Roll song ever recorded, Rocket 88. The story goes that Sam Phillips told Ike Turner he could not sing so one of Ike s bandmates,Jackie Brenston sang the song. Jackie Brenston and the Delta cat s was one name they went by. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Oberson and Carl Perkins we re all known to have started there as well as many others. All of the guides are incredible, very high energy, very knowledgeable and at the end of the tour open for any questions. Also they are singers, guitarists and artists themselves. Many legends have haunted this studio and is such a treasure for anyone interested in the beginnings of Rock N Roll.

I loved the tour and our tour guide, Zach. He was very nice. Coffee was only a dollar and tee shirts were $20, so not too bad. I'm a local Memphian and I still learned quite a bit about the history of my city from the tour.

Lived in Memphis my whole life (56 years) and though I have driven past it 100's of times I had never walked in the door until this week when a business associate in town requested we go. WOW...what a cool experience!! Both the memorabilia in the shop and the exhibits on the tour are very interesting. Our tour guide did an awesome job walking us through the history of Memphis music & the impact Sun Records had in sharing the soulful heartbeat of Memphis with the world. Especially cool to stand in the studio on the very marks where so many giants of music once stood to record the songs known & loved around the globe. As a lifelong Memphian I thought I knew all there was to know about my city's musical heritage and very glad I took time to visit Sun to learn there is so much more I don't know. If you love Memphis music, recommend highly that you take time to visit the true birthplace of rock & roll next time you are in town.

SUN Studio in Memphis TN, it's beautiful. There is a lot of musical imprint and the guide who played us knew many things and transmitted them with a lot of humor. There are musical shows and one can feel there at the time when Elvis, Johnny Cash and so many others made history. It is also the place where they recorded the famous Million Dollar Quartet. The history of this study is beautiful. I recommend. It has a bar at the start of the tour where you can make time until the next. Groups enter every hour.

ONLY there are tours in English, that's why I give them a point.
