Every single time my family and I go through Memphis, we have to stop by Sun Studios. Being the Elvis fan I am, it's a must. But even if you're not an Elvis fan, it's a must. It's for Elvis fans, music fans, and history fans. There is so much history in this little building it's unreal. If I could give this more than five stars I would. Most of the time when you take the tour you will get a guide that is so knowledgeable. Which makes it so much better. I HIGHLY recommend it!!
Visited on a Tuesday afternoon. Parking is behind the building and is scarce but we were fortunate to get the last remaining spot. Once inside, we found the small museum crowded with tourists. We had a short wait before the 12:30 PM tour began. We were taken into two different rooms by our tour guide. Both rooms were filled with artifacts and memorabilia from the early days of the blues, rock, and country. One of the rooms was the actual recording studio used by Elvis, Johnny Cash and others. Jason, our guide, was excellent. He was highly enthusiastic, knowledgable, and made the static exhibits come alive. He also played various musical clips during the tour. Overall, it was a very entertaining and enlightening experience that was reasonably priced.
The tour guide was knowledgeable, a joy to be there, nice staff full of rock and roll history.
If you want to step back in time and explore the legacies of legends like the King of Rock 'n' Roll, step no further than inside the Sun Studio. You can stand in the spot where Elvis Presley recorded and learn the history of icons. The tour guides are well-read and will transport you back in time as well. If you want to challenge the King, you can also record a song or just take the tour and see the memorabilia.
Awesome place!! Truly enjoyed the history of Sun Studio!
Cool tour if you have an interest in music. Lively your guide.
So historic. Really an amazing place to grab a tea or coffee. I didn't think it'd be worth stopping at but it was well worth the time. Our whole family enjoyed the trip.
Amazing photos and artifacts on the wall. True American history.
I am a music "guy". I learned a lot on the tour and the tour guide was really good. Treating us like it was HIS ONLY tour. Covid kept it from a perfect score, distancing, vibe, etc.
Awesome...the history of the musical talent that has been to this studio is amazing
A nice tour of the actual studio where so many historical recordings were done. A busy place but worth the wait , just have a milkshake and wait your turn !!
Do you have to look at yourself. We drove with the rental car. There is parking everywhere! The cafe and the associated shop is great. recommendable
A place where musicians like Elvis Presley n Johnny Cash used to do their song recordings here.
Step back a bit in time - either w/paid tour, or free browsing in the cool retro receptionist area/gift shop...some nice memorabilia, too!
The folks in here are so friendly! Whether you're just browsing, on a tour or sitting at the bar sipping a malt... Very entertaining tour and really informative too! The guide we had was a hoot!
All music fans have to visit this. Its cosy and intimate and there's a nice bar and cafe and they are obviously music fans too. Another one off the bucket list.
A must see! Take the tour! Staff is very knowledgeable and also in the biz. It was amazing to see where Elvis got his big break. They have a lot of great memorabilia!
Very interesting and informative tour. The tour guide was awesome and highly fascinated by what he is doing. You learn a lot about the history of Rock'n'Roll, hear the very first recordings of legends like Elvis Presley or Carl Perkins and you see the famous recording studio. Definitely worth the 14$.
The history, the people, the music all 5 stars. I hope to record here someday!
Excellent place to visit! Graham really made it even better with his enthusiasm and knowledge of rock and roll. Two thumbs up!
It was chill. I didn't take the tour. It is probably much better if you take the tour.
Best tour in Memphis. Tour guide was informative and enthusiastic. The information was relavent and entertaining. It's a nice piece of history.
It was so nice to see all the amazing things about music history!
For any rock n roll fan, this is a must. Well presented, original condition. Do not miss.
Must see historical site for music fans of all ages.
Friendly and helpful staff in the lobby and gift-shop.
Tour-guide, Krista, really helped history come alive while touring the museum and studios.
The guide there was so passionate about the history of the studio that you are going to have tears in your eyes from the importance of the place. Oh well, I did.
Sun Studio tour not to miss if visiting Memphis. Where it all began. Fantastic.
Went to Sun Studio on 09/09 with family while visiting from Texas. I loved the little tour and the guide, I didn t catch the tour guides name but he was awesome. It was nice and I enjoyed it. There weren t many people and we didn t have to wait for the tour. I would definitely recommend visiting the studio.
Great historical location....amazingly small...so much history
A must visit in Memphis! The birthplace of rock and roll. See the original studio where Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, U2 and hundreds more laid down tracks
This place is so rich in music history. If you go, a tour is a must. The tour guide is knowledgeable and fun. We felt honored just to be in the same room where Elvis and Johnny cash got their start. This is a memorable experience
I remember as a kid looking at the Sun label on the old man's Johnny Cash 45s and wondering what Memphis and the Sun studios were like to have attracted such profound talents. We loved the tour and especially the opportunity to hold the mike used by the greats in the studio...
Loved it. I'm a big Elvis had a great time here. Love to go again
This is a bucket list item. History that made America!
Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, What else needs to be said.
Lots of history... Enough ghosts that the place was claustrophobic.
Nice slice of history, great guides. Tour groups little too big.
Great tour and well-told history of the studio and its impact on music. Plez was a wonderful host.
Interesting to see the modest building where so many hit songs were recorded.
Going here was a pilgrimage for me.
A very authentic experience at the studio that continues to be actively use today.
A must go to if you visit Memphis. The best part was standing in the recording studio where so many great artists have been.
I was thoroughly impressed with this tour. So much Rock and Roll history in one little place! A very reasonable $14 ticket to do this.
Our tour guide was fun and informative, I think her name was Lana (sorry if incorrect!). She had really corny one liners throughout the tour that were actually endearing. Thanks for the great tour!
The story of Sun Studio is fascinating to listen to and backed up with a ton of vintage equipment, letters, 45's, pictures, and show memorabilia. If you are a guitar, blues, or rock and roll aficionado, this is a must do! There are between 12 and 20 vintage guitars on site.
The story of Sun Studio is entwined with the early career of Elvis Presley. This history is fun to hear about but I wish there was more on some of the "lesser known" stars from the 50's and 60's. Howlin' Wolf, BB King, and Roy Orbison could use a few more mentions. I also think a listening area would be a great edition to tour.
This tour was still good enough to go back to next year when I'm in town. The tours begin every half hour from 1030 to 530 most days, if I remember correctly. This makes it easy to fit into your day and it's just five minutes from downtown.
Thanks for the great time! It reminded me of bass playing days when I fell in love with Rock and Roll (back in the 80's). See you next year!
The staff were friendly, the place itself is not interesting.
Visit the small office studio that launced a generation of new music. Also, I was suprised that they have a small cafe for food and beverage while you wait for the tour.
The best tour, we loved it and really had a great time. Very informative and just a blast
Very informative of how the Blues Icons got their start, Including the great Elvis Presley! The tour guide was excellent and made it fun.
Visiting Memphis means a visit to Sun studios. A lot of musical history can be found there. Also famous artists, like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and many more, have been there. The tour is nice and brings you to the original recording studio. You should definitely go there!
great historical location , birth place of rock n roll
The tour guide was phenomenal. I really recommend this tour.
Great to hear from someone who was passionate about the job
This was awesome! The your guide was very passionate about the history that was made here. We even got our picture taken with the microphone that Elvis and Johnny Cash used!
Stand where Giants stood. Well, rock & roll and blues Giants at least. Great fun.
Great tour. Guide was awesome. Was cool to stand in the room where so many greats once stood
We were led by an enthusiastic guide through one of Rock &Roll's most important locations. Sorry Cleveland, we know Alan Freed may have coined the term, but Memphis made the music. Good coffee for only a buck in the cafe too! A short walk from downtown and Peabody.
Loved this place! Small yes but very cute and historical. It was easy to get tickets for a very good tour. He was nice and very passionate about music. An absolute walking musical encyclopedia, answering every question in detail. Can't believe they still record music here. Loved the original microphone I got to touch!
