A Dallas institution. My meal was great! Service was spectacular.
Great place to take a group. It is old school done right.
It is a Bastion of old school Honkism! My jab at elitism!
Great Drinks, Great service, and if you want to spend a ton of money, go somewhere else.
This place has been well worth the trip for over 50 years.

This place was so well groomed outside lawn was pretty and looked neat. I felt like a million dollars entering this steakhouse. Bartender was nice and very prompt. The manager came to my table and asked how my visit was. Also mentioned that the place was remodeled and waiting to fill up wine rack. Delicious salad and potato soup. This is my favorite steak house.

That was my absolute worst stake I have ever had. I returned my food and I got another stake which was even worse!!!! A ribeye, thin as a pancake and more of half of it was just fat and strings. Disgusting.

My husband and I love this place! We live all the way in Mesquite but make the drive because it's worth it. The salad bar is always filling and the prices are definitely appropriate. The staff is kind and the ambiance is nice. Try them out you won't regret it!

Old-school atmosphere with a great salad bar and steaks. But one item is truly outstanding - the grilled salmon. Very few people order it, but it might be the best grilled salmon in Dallas. It's certainly the best I've ever had.

The food was delicious. We happened in while I was visiting from out of town on a Wednesday, which is half price bottles if wine night. The service was superb. Hector was our waiter and he made the home like atmosphere feel like we were with family. I will definitely be returning the next time I am in town.

The fried Pork Chops and sides were great but the Service was the worst I have ever had. No waitress for over 20 minutes after my arrival. THEN, we have to deal with ANGELA, the "Night Manager" with the ABSOLUTE WORST ATTITUDE AND CUSTOMEE SERVICE SKILLS THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. She actually argued with a customer, then turned her back on the customer who she argued with and went to a new customer walking in. We will never return to this restaurant! The best food in the world can be ruined by this lack of customer care. SHAME ON YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, DUNSTON'S.

Season less steak, season less chicken, had to be seated by a cleaner in the kitchen. Waitress definitely did not want to be there by making comments about my weight and how I should get a salad and rethink my order. (She was larger then me.)

I was hesitant about the place because of the reviews but I had a friend that wanted to go there. Salad bar was small, but not so bad. The steak, way over priced for the quality. I watched him cook it and saw how he flipped it multiple times at the end. The worst part? The bug that kept crawling up the wall!!! At first it went away, then it just kept coming back, I even jumped out of my seat one time. They apologized only to admit they had an exterminator coming. I was so completely grossed out. At the end they apologized and paid for my dessert. Although I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I absolutely love this place! By far hands down, BEST salad bar in Dallas. This is a dining institution for big D. If you crave a good steak, friendly people with an old school but modern feel...THIS is your place to go.
It was my 1st steak in Dallas over 20 years ago and still go to this day!

We don't make it over across town very often any more, but Dunston's is a old standby. Old fashioned steakhouse, 50s rustic decor, wood grilled steaks that are reasonably quality at a reasonable price.

The service was excellent, but the food is well below steakhouse standards in my opinion. Some family members of our large party had salmon, which was overcooked, the grilled catfish was crumbled up, the sauteed spinach was bland, as well as the steak (before drowning it in steak sauce) the dirty rice was white rice that appeared to have brown gravy stirred in it - nothing like ANY dirty rice I've ever seen or tasted...no meat, cajun spices, nothing. The fried shrimp was butterflied, flat and basically a piece of fried batter with a tail on it, the bread pudding was a custard swimming in some liquid....and the list goes on. The calamari was good. The salad bar was too...but who really screws that up??? I would have expected far better quality food in this part of Dallas.

Found this place by accident and it was phenomenal!! Dennis helped us and he was fabulous. Food was awesome, drinks tasty and desert was sensational... Even our teenage boys loved it and they can be quite picky! Add the salad bar to your meal, it is worth it.

The food was fairly good. This is the nicest thing I have to say about this place. We weren't greeted with a smile and our waiter acted like serving is was the absolute last thing he wanted to do. We weren't even asked for our drink orders...ever. they asked for our dinner order and we had to ask. Our dinners came and my husband's was missing the gravy so we had to flag someone down and ask. I asked for a drink refill and never got it. He asked if we wanted dessert and we asked what their cobbler of the day was. We were never offered the actual dessert menu. We ultimately decided to pass since they clearly weren't interested in serving us.

Everything is grilled over mesquite wood which gives your meat of choice a wonderful flavor. I'm wild about their ribeye steaks but wait until you try their grilled salmon chard. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My first time here and went with family, they sat us at two different tables and that's fine however the waiter would go over and talk with one table then forget about us at the other table. Mom of 5 kids so me and my children were at one table right next to our other half of the party.Once our food arrived it was cold. It had no flavor on meat and we waited for a really long time. I understand we were a big party however no one should be served cold food. The waiter could have been a bit more up beat and smiled.

I had the 9oz bacon wrapped steak with a baked sweet potato and either cabbage or spinach. Couldn't tell. Steak had no seasoning and tasted like a charcoal bricette. I've eaten at restaurants in almost every state and I've never been FORCED to eat a steak with A1. That's sacrilegious, but I HAD to with this. Sweet potato was good. Nothing special. I'm not sure if it was spinach or cabbage, but it looked like grass and I tried to eat it but it tasted like grass. Really upset that we had such a bad time for the extremely high prices. Denny's has a better steak.

Wait staff were nice and did a great job. The shrimp my little boy had was fantastic.

Visiting Dallas for 10 days and was excited to go to Dunston's on 1/2/2014 after reading reviews. Went to the Lovers Lane restaurant which was busy but not packed on a week night. The dim light didn't hide the nastiness and unkept condition of this place nor the extensive missing ceiling tiles. The cooks all had a "don't care" attitude and demeanor and used the microwave. What is a microwave doing above the steak grill?? The place had the aroma of overheated fryer grease. The medium rare prime rib we ordered came to the table raw and bleeding. We sent it back and they put it in au jus for a couple more minutes then re-served to us. I noted a lack of conversation between the wait staff and the cooks who looked bored. The salad bar featured fake bacon bits but the lettuce was fresh and crisp. The tomatoes were unripe. Anyway, the bread was good but the rest was well below mediocre. The cap on the night was when our waitress tried to palm our credit card then claim we didn't place it in the bill wallet but was willing to comp the meal. It magically appeared in her hand after we walked her path to the register and called for flashlights to search for the card. Her comment after it appeared was "oh and that was a good one too." We won't go here again.

Must have been a change in last couple years. Always been good but on last visit (Jan 10. 2020) steak was served on a sizzling fajita plate- one of, if not the, worst idea ever conceived at a steakhouse. Filet and strip were over charred on outside, chips served with backdoor dip were stale. Salad bar and sides, as well as service (by Roberto) was excellent.

My son and I were in Dallas for OU-Texas weekend, and we're looking for a good, local, non-chain restaurant - and did we find an absolute home run in Dunston's!

My son had a fabulously cooked bacon-wrapped filet ($18) with asparagus and baked potato. The filet was melt-in-your mouth tender and the asparagus was grilled to a turn.

I had the 8 oz New York Strip ($18), and chose a salad bar trip and baked potato for my sides. My steak was cooked just as I wanted and it was delicious. Their salad bar had a nice selection of greens and vegetables along with a nice variety of dressings - I chose a balsamic vinaigrette that was just the right compliment to my salad.

Our dinners came with fresh, hot yeast rolls and both regular and honey butter.

I would have loved to try their banana pudding dessert, but I was just too full from the great supper!

Not only does Dustin's serve a wonderful steak dinner, they do so in a pleasant, slightly underlit, comfortable dining area with a wonderfully congenial atmosphere that allowed us to enjoy a busy evening crowd but still carry on a pleasant conversation. That's rare these days!

This combination of atmosphere, food, service, and value will make this a special treat we hope to enjoy again soon. Heartily recommended.

I was at the harry Hines location today
I had the dustons primere ribeye.
I was very disappointed
That was the toughest ribeye I've had in a long time. I've honestly had better steak at chili's
For. 27.95. I expected a whole lot better that that. Absolutely will not go back. It was a huge waste of money. With the tip I spent 40.00. When you advertise premiere ribey and set a piece of shoe leather in front of me it makes me wonder how bad your other steaks are. You should really consider getting out of the steakhouse business

Dunstons had great tasting food, a community atmosphere, and a wonderful staff. Our ONLY complaint was this customer who showed up with this obnoxious feathers in her hat that constantly tapped my son in the face, and bothered his food. That's not on the restaurant by any means, but if you're coming here, have some courtesy to remove the obnoxious feathers so others may enjoy their dining experience. Extra points to the staff for doing their best to help with the feather situation. Truly, amazing and considerate staff. Would love to return!!

this is a Dallas landmark of sorts. either here on lovers lane or the main location on harry hines. The lover's location has a salad bar, while the other doesn't. The food is good and reliable. The employees are friendly and know their business. If you want a fun and enjoyable steak dinner in an atmosphere reminiscent of the the 60s. This is great!

Worst customer service, the manager is pathetic. The restaurant smells terrible, it is unbearable. I have ordered to several times and they NEVER get anything correct. My orders have been wrong both times. People answer the phone laughing and carrying on conversations with other people as you are talking. I do not know how this place exists. I wish I could rate it a 0. Bartenders are consistantly on their cell phones when I come to pick up my orders and do not lift their heads up to acknowledge a person is standing there. You have to actually say hello for them to even take their heads out of their phones. Female brunette bartender eats in front of customers sitting at the bar. Take a break, do not be unprofessional. No restaurant should be run like this. The employees definatley are a reflection of the management.

Been here many times! This is wonderful, cozy, family restaurant with delicous food! Once I went with 12 people celebrating and every single person's food was cooked perfectly the way it was ordered and served exactly as requested. This makes me proud that I picked this restaurant. It relieves any stress that my food will come how I want it - not how someone has time or thinks it should be, but exactly how I requested. I LOVE that!

The steaks were very good but the service staff was less than satisfactory. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated terribly. At first I thought it was just because the host was young and immature. But the waiter was rude and demeaning. The only thing I can think of is that my wife is not an American.

Great service, low key old school vibe. The porkchop was DEELISH, asparagus on point. The place is pretty big even though it doesn't look like it on the outside. Reasonably priced for sure. And they have that cinnamon honey butter !!!

A neighborhood favorite often times full of life and enthusiasm. The wall decorations show the history of the ownership and the intrinsic detail that makes this steak house something to come back to time and time again. Enjoyed by many for not only the extensive salad bar but also the choice meats cooked the way you like them as if the kitchen has an eye on you.
