Always received higher stars until tonight I am sad to say a huge disappointment. We came in at 7:30 late for us to eat. We ordered from the board of specials Chicken Noodle soup and salad bar and the favorite piete filet. Our waiter was delightful. Food came and he put "soup" in front of me and steak in front of my partner. I looked at steak and said it was mine and "what was this for Chicken Noodle"? A bowl of beans not soup at all with no explanation. Our waiter was surprised as well. No one told her they were out of soup so they left it there No information given at all. Later told waiter not what we ordered and please take it away and take it off bill then I asked for manager. His attitude was so unprofessional and no explanation only excuses that he was too busy to notice. Unacceptable customer service. Have been eating there since 1955 and Northwest Highway as well and have never have a bad experience until tonight. The manager was just rude. He did not know they were out of soup did not offer a replacement felt he was imposed on that he had to take off bill. On our way out they still featured homemade chicken soup!
Guess the millennials are what they are even in the food business. No more customer service. Such a shame. Don't think this was just a one-off on his part.

Needs some side dishes to go with the main course but good authentic nonetheless...

This steakhouse is one of the best in the metroplex, the pricing is amazing for what you get. The food is amazing quality, and the salad bar is truly one of the best things I've ever eaten. The salad bar is insane, and everything was great down to our service and our location. The waiter even asked us if it was ok before he sat us down at a table.

Memories! Just as good as it has always been! Cooked to order, fresh large salad bar. Great wait staff and spot on adult beverages!

A decent spot for lunch - felt kind of old time in the restaurant. I expected more from the food - average salad bar, chicken was ok and service was efficient, but felt like they were just there. I would go again but it's not making my recommended lunch spots.

Ordered the tenderloin, and it was still mooing when it got to my table. Hated to send it back after waiting a hour for my food, and the steak they brought back after the rest of my table was done was rarer than the first. Salad bar is a joke. $28 for my meal and I fed it to my dogs.

Ordered ship cocktail and two filet mignon meals with salad, baked potato and bread.
Everything served in a timely manner and all food was excellent. Steaks were cooked perfectly. All of the food had a good flavor. The salad was fresh.
I would definitely eat here again.

First time dining and it was very good. I like to old style feel to the place and the food was very good. I went during lunch time and had the chicken & dumplings special and recommend it. They serve rolls with butter and what looked like homemade honey butter that was fantastic. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

yeah I love this place! It is definitely old school, and relax in an old-world kind of way. It smells like beef has been cooking for 30 years because it's probably been cooking for at least 70. The back room bar is where it's at. Nestle up to the bar top for lunch and chat with the regulars while you're having a kickass filet mignon. I wouldn't say that it's the absolute best food in town, however it it's really good always consistent and it got a very "inside the club" kind of feel to it where everybody knows one another. Like you were on the inside.

I don t know what has changed because this place used to be good. Got part of our order, which was wrong, by the time they corrected it everything was cold, even the corrected order. The roasted Brussel sprouts were simply taken out of the fridge and brought directly to my table (yes they were that cold). This is my second time in a row to be extremely disappointed by the food and service here. Won t be going back.

Really good service from our waiter from Barranquilla Colombia. The rebeye was tastesome.

Classic neighborhood steak house with 1970's decor, quality steaks cooked over Mesquite Wood, salad bar, premium drinks and excellent service. Reasonable prices.

you will not be disappointed in the menu and service. service is consistently above par.

Seeing a friend in Dallas, thought I would have a steak at Dunston. Great salad bar with many choices to choose from. Ordered 8oz filet, not that great like Bob's Chop House steaks.

Service is awesome even when they are busy. Definitely worth going back to. Feels like a place in Los Angeles I loved.

Food was good but service was lacking. Friendly server who lacked basic waiting skills. We had various appetizers that left multiple empty plates and bowls on the table. They were not removed before our dinners were delivered by a young woman who wasn't our server. She stood there with our dinners, practically tapping her feet, staring at us and waiting for us to find somewhere to put all of the used plates, bowls and culery so she could drop our food down. The server never came to ask if our meals were ok. Both of us ordered filet medium rare. My companion's was perfect but mine was raw. We had to flag down our server to get it cooked. We completed our meals and still no filet. We had to flag down our server to finally get the filet. It was perfectly cooked. The server never came back to see if it had been cooked right this time. Our water and tea were not filled as one would expect. The place was packed and the lines were long, so ours might not be the typical experience, but we expected better.

Very dark atmosphere. But a nice throwback to those old timey steakhouses. Staff was friendly. Food was good.

Where to start? Food was decent. A little pricey but not bad. The time it took to get the food could have been a bit faster. Considering everything ordered was rare or already cooked. The wait staff was nice and polite. Now for the really bad part. Including gratuity on our check? We sat at a table with 9 people. 1 of them being 2 years old. So 2 people in the party didn't even order. We had separate checks yet you added gratuity for 9 people to both checks. Sorry the service was not good enough to warrant a 50.00+ tip. A tip is something given by me based on the service received . On top of the I visited the men's restroom only to find 2 giant roaches in the middle of the floor squished. Bathroom maintenance should be a regular chore. Also the toilets in the men's room had no flushing power. So I got to witness 2 toilets with floating excrement in them. I dont write reviews often but felt this one needed to be written. Never will I eat at this establishment again. So disappointed!

Just moved to Dallas and had a work lunch here. I have since been back with my sister for dinner and its a great spot to grab a meal. The staff is very friendly and even the owner came up and checked on us. Yes the ambiance is a little darker but I personally like that vibe. You can come dressed up or casual which is perfect and the prices are great for what you are getting. I did read reviews prior to coming in and i personally think the low star reviews are people who are just crabby about life and have expectations as if this was a $500 dining experience....great food for the price and I WILL FOR SURE be going back and possibly be hosting a dinner party here :) I ordered steak both times and my steaks were not thin and cooked perfect. Also, I have been to both locations. I like the Harry Hines for lunch and then the Lovers Lane for dinner.

Wow what a find and why did it take so long for us to get here. Neat place a lot of families and dates. Great ambiance dimmed lites sort of like stepping back into time with dark booths with tall backs.

By fast and absolutely one of the best steaks I have had. NY Strip-- done perfectly medium hands down great. Side portions good and the salad bar what a throw back. Great. Staff very friendly and over all experience great. We will definitely be back!!!

The staff was very helpful and observant. This place has a nice design.

The food took an hour. I waived the manager down two twice and he completely ignored me. There is no way that the owners are involved in this restaurant. Manager couldnt care less.

Not the same Dunston s since new management took over. Service was awful on our last visit ...wrong food delivered to table, steaks overcooked, drinks not refilled, wrong check was given to us, and several other tables had the same issues. All of this for double the price! Sad because we had our wedding reception here 25 years ago. Missing the old Dunston s.

Not sure what all the hype is about. Gave it a try because of the great reviews but I thought it was extremely fair. The waiter wasn t attentive and there were several others helping him fill drinks in his section. He also never checked to see if we needed anything. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet which arrived with no bacon and was a bit dry. Although the bread and butter was fabulous, I will not be back.

From out of town for OU Texas and was in the mood for a good steak and Dunston's totally delivered! Great atmosphere yummy bread and butter! Excellent Salad Bar, potatoes,grilled asparagus, and Steak. It was all great!

A busy place on a Saturday. Be sure to make reservations, they will work you in but it takes a bit. Was worth the wait.

My family am I have been going to Dunstan's for decades. It never changes. Always good. Well run and wait staff excellent. Gene Dunstan is there most nights, making a visit feel like home. Reserve a table back in the bar area.

Seated right away for an early dinner wih no reservations. Wait Staff was prompt, courteous, food was delivered hot. Salad bar should not be missed. Husbands NY Strip steak was grilled to perfection as was my favorite, catfish. Tonight's side was mixed squash casserole & had to fight my husband for mine as he preferred it to his favorite baked potato. If arriving after 5:00 PM, call for reservarions.

Hostess extremely rude about the amount of people in our group

Ribeye well, mashed potatoes and collard greens. The conversation and Old Fashion was a good night out. I did want some smooth music. Thanks doe the Peach Cobbler A La Mode treat!!!

Been going to Dunston's various locations for 30 plus years. Last several visits have been a disappointment, but last week's visit convinced me I would not going back in the future.

Came here for my brother s birthday. We had reservations and were seated relatively on time. When we were seated, we unfortunately got the table right next to the back exit and server s station. Not our favorite thing, but not a big deal. However, our server then took several minutes before we had our drink orders taken, and then had to wait roughly 15-20 minutes before we were able to order. We eventually had to call a waitress over and ask her if she would take our orders since we hadn t seen our waitress anywhere. At one point, we had to go over to the server station and pour our own water because we went without service for so long and we desperately needed water. We received the food relatively on time after being able to order and the food was decent. And the appetizers were great. All in all, I m happy with the food, but the service was honestly awful.

Bernardo was our waiter. He did an excellent job. Mr. Vincent the manager was very helpful and courteous as well.

This is the best Dunston's, I don't know if it is the original but the folks are very nice and efficient, food is good and they have a salad bar and a drinks bar too!

We had the most tasty and wonderful food, the best service and the greatest time! I am so disappointed that we live in Tulsa, and cannot eat here regularly. but this is a must every time we go to Dallas now!

Been a go-to place for my family for 35+ years. Great food and service and reasonably priced. If you want the best Steak in town, this isn't your place. But if you want a steak cooked just like you want it, a monster salad bar, great chicken fried steak, pheasant, ribs (only on Thursdays, I think), prime rib (also on select days), baked spuds and other tasty sides, and served by a friendly staff, you will LOVE this place. Family friendly and a fun place to get together with old friends. Call ahead and they'll hold a table for you in the back room/bar.

Not as good as Outback. Service on this visit was fair, asked for things that were forgotten and had to ask a second time. The two stars reflect a score weighed against reasonable expectations.

Great place but you will smell like smoke when you leave. The food here is good and the waitstaff is attentive. The whole place has an old money vibe about it, like you should be drinking scotch and discussing investment portfolios. I wish they would outlaw smoking. I always go there on business and leave smelling like I ducked into a bar on my lunch break. Ladies, don't go unless you are emotionally prepared to wash/dry/style your hair afterwards.

Great little place for steaks, service was great, nice atmosphere and very clean. The hostess were very professional and took care of a packed house while we were there. Been here a couple of times now and will be coming back.

Special occasion so the family all went. Not impressed at all. The food was mediocre and a bit pricey. The surroundings were very dated and not very clean. The staff was less than friendly and scarce when you needed something. I wouldn't recommend it and we haven't been back.

Service was wonderful Dave and Primo gave us a spectacular experience, very attentive and upbeat. Our steaks came out cooked exactly how we asked, so props to the back of the house too. It was a Nice warm welcome to a couple of El Pasoans.

Had a wonderful time with co-workers. Our waitress Taylor was amazing. Our group plus another group were in a private room. She along with another waiter had over 55 people. She killed it. She made everyone feel special and taken care of. The food was wonderful and the price was great too.

Dunstan's has gone down hill! The A/C was out, service sucked. Never saw the manager once during our visit

One of my favorite places to step back in time! It's easy to see why thos place is a Dallas icon. The food is always delicious. I always get the bacon wrapped filet with a baked potato and salad bar. There's something about those chilled bowls that makes the salad extra tasty. The ranch tastes homemade which I love. The rolls with cinnamon butter are to die for. The service is impeccable and super friendly. We come here again and again!
