This hospital USED to be the place I would trust with my life (and would recommend to others) and while I would still recommend any other part but the emerg department being there for an emergency has become a horrible experience.

Triage didn't actually ask me any relevant questions and just sent me to ambulatory (where I waited almost 2 hours just to be actually triaged). The nurses (and doctors) seem to assume that anyone who is there in actual pain is just there to score pain medication and it seemed the security guards, porters and fellow patients cared more than the medical staff working there.

After 4 hours I finally got part one of my x-rays done, then 2.5 hours later (as I was "awaiting results") got sent for other x-rays (it would've been far more productive to get them all done at once).

It's also a unnerving to give a diagnosis in an open (and very busy) waiting area with no care for privacy whatsoever (this used to not be the case) and to make matters worst the doctor publicly belittled me for having a panic attack due to the pain (which was very unprofessional).

I don't go to hospitals unless I absolutely need to (often waiting till I'm lectured by family members or doctors to go), and this treatment (during covid or not) is unacceptable for any human being.

My grandfather passed away in the ER a few weeks ago. The nurses and palliative care doctors were very attentive and compassionate. They made his passing as painless as possible and checked in on us regularly. So a huge thank you to them.

Unfortunately, we had issues with security in front of the ER. The doctors and receptionist explicitly told my whole family that we were permitted to come and go from the ER building throughout the day to get food and take walks, as we were confined to one room, waiting for my grandfather to pass away. However, whenever we would try to get back into the ER, a security guard would give us a hard time. I would been able to overlook the inconvenience of explaining the situation to them multiple times, but in my grandfather's final moments, some of us were trying to get back in, but security would not let us pass. It was awful to see members of my family crying and calling out to my dying grandfather from outside the building as he was taking his last breaths. We could not be there by his side because security didn't know we were allowed to go into the ER.

I completely understand that security has to do their jobs and they have been given instructions about whom to let in and when. But we were told multiple times by staff in the ER that we were an exception because my grandfather was on his deathbed. It was incredibly upsetting to have to clash with security all day, and especially in my grandfather's final moments. This lack of communication prevented us from being all together when he died.

I can only imagine how difficult it is to be hospital staff especially during this pandemic and I understand that that security has to deal with difficult people every day. I know it's easy for me to criticize in hindsight, but I'm writing this review in hopes that some attention will be given to this issue so that others won't experience what we did. If the policies and communication are clearer between security and medical staff, it will save some families a lot of hurt. Thank you very much for reading.

This hospital is one of the few in Toronto I trust with my family and my life. Dr. Latter saved my husbands life by repairing his mitral valve and the staff are amazing. I was admitted twice to Cardiology and the nurses are awesome the doctors are fantastic and the support staff are friendly. ER wait times are lengthy but the treatment and the care is totally worth it.

Once again above and beyond. Nothing but an amazing experience dealing with Dr Howard Ginsberg and his team in Nurosergery department. After care from surgery on Tuesday Aug 3 truly amazing from all the nurses and staff. Can't thank you all enough at St Mikes.
Dr Ginsberg is absolutely amazing at his craft a true gift.

I have been sitting in the emergency room for roughly 7 hours due to side effects from the medication the doctor had prescribed me on Wednesday. When inquiring about how much longer for wait time, i am constantly silenced with "sit down it's your turn next".
The robots working in Triage need to be trained on how to deal with people properly and accordingly. I refuse to ever comeback to this place again.

St Micheals Toronto Emergency Triage is one of the worst places to find oneself when you are sick and in need of help.

We were repeatedly asked by the triage receptionist, 'Do you want to see a doctor 'YES OR NO' ? 'YES OR NO'
Not one of those people we tried to talk to in triage in order to figure out if we were in the right location bothered to even read the referral given by our Ophthalmologist to see a specialist at the retina clinic for a detached retina.
We were lucky that the specialist's secretary called to ascertain if we were on our way,
None of the Triage staff could be bothered to take a look at this referral though we repeatedly tried to show it to them and explain the situation to them.

Maybe think outside the BOX once in a while and learn the fine art of listening to the concern first prior to triaging patients.

09/11/21. Entered from the Queen St side. During the screening questions the young lady proceeded to thong hand me a mask. I shook my head and said, no thank you I have my own.
I was wearing at the time a surgical yellow mask and a cloth mask on the outside. What a rude and ignorant experience I had from then on. This person raised there voice showing their intolerance and said I have to give this to you it is policy.
Please be aware that a surgical mask can also be yellow, blue is not the only color, I work in direct contact with vunarable clients and have proper PPE. Train your staff to resolve conflicts and be tolerant. Supervisor was called because of a simple issue. This young lady robbed me of time with my palliative client who died less than half hour after getting into her room..
Very stumped at the level of incompetence of that staff.
On another note I like this hospital very much and thank you staff on the Palliative floor. You guys are amazing.

Dr. Thomas Steeves has a receptionist that does not show the slightest compassion and was absolutely no help. She had called to confirm an appointment and I asked a question and she simply just said can i confirm this appointment or no? Totally disregarded my question and was simply rude. Her name was Barb.

Had my baby last week at St. Michael s - Labour & Delivery and it was a friendly, supportive and excellent experience. The nurses, support staff, doctors and care we received was 5 out of 5. As new first time parents, we will be forever grateful. My only 1 critique is that I believe some of the advice for newborn care (bottle feed reluctance and no mention that baby should not sleep with a hat and a few minor things), I believe is too rigid/traditional (compared to advice from online sources), however I can appreciate that as the guidance may need to be more general since every baby has different needs and it is ultimately up to the parents to find what works best for them. Thank you St. Michael s!!
