I am very disappointed with the service and location of the hotel that is branding itself to be considered 5-star. The rooms were very run down and the elevators were very confusing. The buttons are placed outside the elevators and you don't have a chance of selecting the correct floor once you get in. The Valet service cannot be called and arranged ahead of time until and unless you come in the main lobby. Prior to check-in the room was not even clean properly. The location it is at, you can choose another hotel and get a better service. I would not recommend anyone to book at this hotel.

This hotel is nice and upscale. Rooms are a bit small but was built in 1908. So understand. But here is the -2 stars. Abysmal internet Wifi. Not just during the dread "PH hours" that render almost all hotel internet useless in the evenings. Im talking 7min webpage loading at 8am. Front desk apologized and gave me access code for the back office wifi but that didn't help me on the 9th floor. It barely reached past front desk. If you need to conduct any business or want to use internet for anything during your stay... Find another hotel.

Very expensive and its an ok room. If you want to order room service you might want to take a loan out first. Shower in the morning and shower in the evening both had warm water, not hot. No hot water, get real.

Nice hotel. You might have an itch to play music in a band at Union Square. A bit old hotel, but glowing hotel due to its location if I grade on a curve. You might swan in and out of the Union Square as you wish.

Very nice hotel in a great location, but it is an older place. It's been kept up and refurbished, but the rooms are small and the walls are thin. Bring earplugs! I hear there is a newer portion of the hotel with more modern rooms, but I didn't stay in those. Also, be aware that the parking is very expensive. You can do better at a lot around the corner on Post St., but you won't have in and out privileges. Not that you'd really need them because driving in this area is more trouble than it's worth, unless you really know SF and love city driving. There are lots of great restaurants and shops within walking distance.

Came for Dreamforce, and they handled the crowds really well. They have some really gorgeous and interesting meeting spaces. I didn't see the rooms, but if they are of a similar quality, I would definitely recommend it.

Very nice hotel. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and the shower had good water pressure. I didn't try any of the restaurants or bar or anything but the gym was pretty nice too.

My go to hotel for work travel to San Francisco. Reception staff work incredibly hard at making you feel welcome, balancing a long line of guests but do it all with a smile.

Pro tip: Valet takes a while to retrieve your car, Sa call ahead then grab a tea or coffee at the cafe in the lobby.

You just can't beat being right on Union Square for a fun time in San Francisco and the Westin captures the spirit of being in historic San Francisco wonderfully. The decor is elegant and classic and feels like you have stepped back in time. Be aware that staying in such a historic building will mean that there's the occasional creek in the floor or odd architecture. The staff is excellent and a pleasure to deal with and will do all they can to ensure you have a great stay in San Francisco. Heads up that the WiFi is pay only.

This hotel is incredible hands down one of the best Westin's that I have ever been in! The history behind this hotel Is amazing and if you stay here I recommend that you do the guided tours that they do on Saturday mornings at the clock tower. Service was always on point. The breakfast was pretty consisted especially in the oak room. They have a very nice workout facility. And the location is conveniently located right on Union square.

The advantage of the hotel is that the location is good and the lobby is quite distinctive. The room is still big, but the room is very old and it is necessary to renovate, especially the bathroom, the pipe behind the toilet is exposed, the bathroom is not heated, the winter is extremely cold, and the room is so small that the bathroom is very small, it is really incomprehensible.

Rooms are small as to be expected however they are very nice and aren't run down like other hotels in major cities. Bathroom is tiny but all brand new. No club lounge. The fitness center is massive and has lots of machines. Some are a little worn down but still work fine. Big plus to have peloton bikes. Strike currently going on which is found and the restaurants are operating on a limited basis- this is especially frustrating as I'm sure management has the money to pay them with rooms $700+ this week. Other Marriott hotels in the area are probably a better option depending on the price but this hotel got the job done.

Overall this is a very nice hotel that has recently been renovated in the heart of Union Square. The location is great and if you get a room high enough, the views are also spectacular. The quality of the lobby and things like the gym are very good, with all new equipment. Service in my experience is also quite good. The main downside in my opinion is the bed and the pillows, which are not as comfortable as I would have hoped. The pillows are very soft and squish down to almost nothing so you have to use several of them, but it's almost hard to find a good amount of pillow. One is not enough and two is too many. Other than that I have been pleased with my experience at this hotel. I do not have any experience with room service or dining.

Umm where to start. The front staff was soso. 3 people to check-in regular members and 1 for the elite, even when there was a bigger q in the later. Maybe they don't like Marriott members even with the merger. Did not get an automatic upgrade even with a platinum elite status. The front staff finally put me in a higher floor at least. Then the electronic key didn't work. Come down to have it changed- I get some things don't work out occasionally. The girl helped me get new ones fast. Good views of the city higher up.

They seem to have some renovation going. Also there was a strike on.

The hotel is well placed for a few walks. The downstairs bar is good but small and gets crowded soon

Would I recommend? If you like history and all that stuff go for it.

We stayed in the older part/tower of the hotel and didn't like the rooms one bit. They were old, smelled old and looked old. The windows were the worse. So dirty that you could barely look outside when the sun was shining (see photo). Gym was nice, however and the staff very friendly. There was a protest outside which was very loud and not communicated to us beforehand (they knew at the time we booked). The protest was the reason we had to switch to this nasty other hotel room in the other part of the hotel.

The hotel is beautiful but is going through renovations. Unfortunately our room sat between multiple rooms getting redone and it was incredibly noisy. The staff and amenities were great though.

Stayed here for work for a couple nights in a 2 double bed room (had the best rate and availability). I didn't use the general facilities (eg gym, restaurant), but spent most time in the room and lobby.

Pros:
-updated rooms, nice looking, spacious, good lighting throughout
-coffee pods in room
-comfortable bed and pillows
-depending on where you want to go or what you're doing will in SF, this hotel is centrally located

Cons:
-service was fine, friendly but not overly helpful. Not a lot of staff at the front desk when checking in so had to wait a little.

This is the absolute worst experience I have had with a hotel.
I ordered and booked 3 rooms. I had the confirmation and they didn t have 3 rooms but 2. I came to grips and asked for sheets on the pull out bed. They brought to one room at 6:00 pm. Still waiting on the other room.
The gal said I have called too many times and they are to busy. They also said we had to make our own bed because they are to busy.
Still waiting for pillow. The so called manager said to quit calling and actually hung up on me after stating to talk with an manager.
I m not upset because of the room mistake or the blankets taking forever. I m upset that I was hung up on. I m upset that the customer service is so poor that I will never stay or recommend this hotel.
It s like someone else will take our place and so who the hell cares.
Super frustrating and upsetting. I spent more time trying to get pillow and blankets than anything else. This is what I was delivered at 11:45 pm. Where is the damn pillow and blanket. Please come back soon

Beautiful historic hotel. The foyer is gorgeous with lots of intricate millwork and antique clock. Several spots throughout the lobby have display cases with artifacts and photos from historic events at the hotel.

Good location with easy access to stores (Macys, Bloomingdales, Westfield's shopping centre etc.) Right next to Union Square which currently has an ice-skating rink. Friendly staff despite the ongoing strikes outside the hotel. If requesting a room ask for a high floor as the people striking are beating drums and chanting all day from about 6:30am till around midnight. Understand the strikes outside all Marriott owned hotels have been going on since October! My colleague was unable to get room service due to the strike. Had breakfast which is included in my rate, basic but ok. Room is of a decent size, clean and well appointed.

The location is wonderful, it is pretty close to the bart station, the cable car (is close due COVID-19), and different bus stops. The union square is just in front. The service room is amazing. We love our days in this out of standard hotel. I highly recommend.

Did not enjoy my visit. Protesters outside the entrance were yelling into loud speakers and banging on drums from 7 AM to 10 PM.

It took 45 min to check in. Ridiculous. Honestly, the room wasn't anything too special. They didn't even supply q-tip toiletries. They put me in a room on the 4th floor overlooking the entrance so I could hear all of the noise outside. Good thing I brought my own ear plugs. My floor had chairs and tables stacked up in the hall the entire length of my stay. Mini fridge didn't even have water bottles.

They didn't do anything extra for the guests who had to endure the strikes outside.

My folio was never sent. Calling for it was a nightmare. I called the hotel three different times to be disconnected due to network issues on their end before I even got through to a human. By the fourth time, I reached a person, but got redirected to 4 different people before someone could simply email my folio. I was on the phone with them for 10 min just to get it.

The worst part didn't even happen to me, but my coworker. Her flight landed very late after delays. She got into the hotel after midnight and went up to her room and SOMEONE WAS SLEEPING IN HER ROOM. How does this even happen??!! The front desk didn't even apologize to her when it happened. I'm just aghast.

Super frustrating stay. I'll never stay there again.

The hotel location is great , it is in the heart of SF and in front of Union Square. The rooms are amazing , but the hotel is always crowded and it has a long queue to check in. The parking is very expensive if you have a car find another parking.
The hotel is very close to all the shopping areas. The Wifi is not free.

If you're gonna stay in SF and want the Union Square experience, this is a great place. Close to theaters, galleries, shopping, trollies. Valet is expensive, but then again, having a car in SF is expensive.

The location is the only plus ; but the room ( queen ) are so small that in two can't be used ; the king have more space but in general all the rooms but be refurbished is look like from the '60 have never receive any improvement .

The hotel is nice but being so big the service is not as great as a smaller Westin I've stayed at. The room sizes are good and being a gold member helps. Location is great and Sarah the manager is great and helpful but everything is a pay to play type of hotel

Beautiful hotel, with a huge workout facility. Gym clothing including shoes are available if needed which was great. Our room was definitely pretty nice though we had just stayed at the Renaissance in Chicago the night before for about the same and our room was excellent. So, stepping into this room, was a slight disappointment. Very old faucets and bath tub (leaking and dripping for 2 days) was why I dropped it to a 4 instead of 5. That was a bit of a nuisance.

I did a Priceline bidding, which was already expensive. Room size was small, and nothing fancy that would warrant the cost per night. No free Wi-Fi and parking is expensive...2 nights is $65. Stay at your own risk.

Location was great. Service was sub-optimal. Stayed here on 2 reservations bookending my trip to Napa. Hotel was beautiful though. When using concierge, they were very helpful and guided us to key places in the city. Check in is at 4p and you can pay $50 to get early check-in unless you are an SPG member. Also wifi is not free in the room unless you are an SPG member. I did like that their tvs came built in with streaming services so i didnt need to plugin my AppleTV to watch Netflix. Overall wasnt a bad trip or stay, just not my best or favorite. On a side note. There are a lot of homeless people in this town and in the area of the hotel.
