I attended a conference while the empmoyee strike was ongoing. It was short-staffed and behind schedule. The catering was average as well. The architecture and building are beauriful. I did not stay in the hotel.
Okay room, pulled a bait and switch to what we ordered and what we got, then needing to pay for an upgrade.
Not impressed with this mediocre hotel. It s nowhere close to 4 star hotel. Rooms & bathrooms need renovation. The breakfast buffet had limited choices & same things repeated every single day. Location is the only good thing about this hotel.
Pros: convenient location (if you're into this part of SF...), high ceilings. Iconic building.
Cons: usually expensive, room sizes and conditions can be uneven. Old building.
The hotel is nice and charming. However, we stayed at this Westin October 29 and 30 while their workers were striking. We understand the strike had been going on for 3 weeks. The strikers pounded drums and chanted from 7 am to 10 pm at the entrance and exit of the hotel. TO say the least, it was disruptive.
Only stayed one night out so far but the first night was great. It feels good to be back in San Fransico.
I had a great event at the Italian conference room held by JCCNC.
I love Westin hotels - they treated me well. I had a room in the older historic part of the hotel. The layout between historic vs newer tower was confusing.
Nice place. I had a decent room. Wasn't extremely impressed but it got the job done.
Great location and view, beautiful hotel. But very tight bathroom and poor sound insulation.
Located right in Union square, the lobby is nice and spacious. Went to the clock bar and was not disappointed, drinks were good and the service was top notch as well.
We stayed the weekend before Christmas. It was super busy because the hotel is right next to union square. The hotel itself is really nice, but on the older side. The rooms were smaller, which is a sign that's its an older hotel. I loved the original moldings on the ceilings and large spacious halkways.
The service was lacking. I called early to notify them I would be checking in late. They just said OK, never took down my name is anything. I also asked about amenities for my anniversary, but they transferred me to some special person who just told me to go to the websutem. She then hung up. When I checked in, I felt they tried to pass a room with a double bed to me as an upgrade. We told her we paid for a queen size bed and would like to keep it that way. We didn't care to "upgrade" especially when it meant getting two beds we didn't want, even if it was bigger. Then come to find out, they did have rooms like the one we paid for, but they just hadn't arrived. So they were trying to accommodate for someobe who wasn't even checked in! They finally gave us the room after a lot of waiting.
Great service. Room was comfortable and well done given the size. Would definitely stay here again. Valet parking was extremely pricey at 62 dollars a night.
Such a lovely hotel with friendly & helpful people, except that they don't provide free WiFi for guests! Only in the public space of the lobby is there free WiFi. We were also annoyed that house keeping entered our room before 9am on our check out day - why?! International guests may wish to try another hotel.
Great location and interesting historic hotel. Rooms need refreshing, however.
Location is fantastic. Not cheap. I'm in a tower with recently renovated rooms. The room is nice with plenty of space. I have a refrigerator that is not crammed with $5 sodas.
Hotel is nice and clean for an older hotel. The house keeping staff was not on point unfortunately. They came into my room while the do not disturb sign was up and cleaned half the room before leaving folded up sheets on my bed. Sent my concerns to guest relations only to get a cookie cutter email with barely an apology.
Beautiful inviting and full Of luxury Union square's beautiful with all the trees lit for Christmas
Customer service was excellent. Definitely felt like my second home for 2weeks.
Very big old hotel right on union square. Some of the rooms are a bit dated.
Old hotel at the city center. Very comfortable room
Lovely hotel right on Union Square. Not new, but well maintained.
Nice hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Everything from room service to the front desk staff was perfect. I'd stay here again.
Newly renovated room in historic section. Really enjoyed our stay
Egg Benedict is recommended.
As you can see in the picture, the eggs are also prey and are thick.
Great restaurant with excellent service. The food was delicious too.
It's just ok. Rooms are kind of average. Bathroom sort of depressing. It's an iconic hotel, but the actual experience is dated. Also the neighborhood itself is just chain shopping. No cool little restaurants or bars or coffee shops. I normally like to stay in boutique hotels in more charming neighborhoods, but I was assigned this hotel from a conference room block. Would not book this hotel personally.
Incredible trim and detail in the hotel and room. Wife commented.. this is the most well insulated room, we didn't hear anyone around us. Our kids our LOUD and it put us at ease at least others probably can't hear them . Beautiful marble stairs. Proximity to Union Square was a life saver.
Beautiful historic building located directly Android from Union square park. While you can certainly hear some noise from the lower floors, it's surprisingly quiet. Rooms are simple but nice, quiet and comfortable. Staff is friendly. On the negative side, there's WiFi but it isn't free.
Ok Hotel. Room was quite small, but well maintained. Some of the guests were ridiculous. Screaming at 2am is not great when you are in town for business.
Great location at Union Square. Deluxe room was very spacious. Comfortable bed. Shower could improve. I'll stay here again.
Great location and friendly staffs. Traffic around here is quite bad though.
Fine hotel in the middle of the Union Square. Great amenities and good service. Very good breakfast. Within a walking distance of Macy's, other shopping venues.
Stopped by to look at the Christmas cakes! Everything was great!
Great hotel- very clean, great staff and great views
nestled in downtown sf.. overlooking union Square. a sweet cafe in the lobby. a cool glass elevator where you can ride with a view
The rooms are attractive and welcoming. The location is right along Powell St, near some of the best sections of Union Square. The front desk was inviting and the service was fantastic.
The rooms are good and Spacious. Some travel sites give discounts while booking rooms. Please check if any offer is available before you book. This hotel is very well maintained.
Great room size and location . Awesome service. Love the fitness center. Food is great!
I really enjoyed the lobby and upon reading the history of the hotel I felt I had stepped inside history itself. I do hope to visit again after Covid to visit the famed Oak Room restaurant.
I'd love to share more detail however its been a few weeks since my visit. I do have these pics to share.
enjoy your stay

The downstairs was stylish and the live jazz music was heard and the atmosphere was good.
I stayed here for a business trip; it was lovely, but had I the option of rebooking in a hotel not owned by the Mariott so I could stand in solidarity with the workers, I would have. I hope that Mariott higher-ups are going to listen to the Union and give their workers livable, working conditions. One job SHOULD be enough.
That being said, it's a nice hotel. Super pricey, and definitely not affordable if it was myself paying for it out of my own pocket; but strike business and prices aside, the only downside to the hotel is that it's right next to Union Square.
The first night, I was woken to the muffled sounds of "The Cupid Shuffle" playing outside my window. When I went to see what was happening, it was a gang of folks in light up roller blades jamming out like it was 1998. Wish they'd have picked a different song, but I shrugged it off as a late weekend dance party and went back to bed.
The second night, it was a man playing guitar and singing. He had a great voice, but the guitar was pitchy.
The third night it was bagpipes. Normally, I love bagpipes. But not when it's 11:35 at night.
Union Square is a lovely cultural corner stone, and I didn't want to be an out of townie scrooge who complains. So I just laid in bed and listened to the free music until I went back to sleep. (That bagpipe guy is incredible, someone hire him full time!) This resulted in some tired mornings, but overall, I'm still alive and can say I've experienced a small slice of San Francisco life.
But like I said; nice hotel. A bit pricey, and a shame that nearly half the staff has had to strike because they're being treated poorly. In hindsight, I bumped the review up to 4 stars, because as Aditya Kotta said, they do indeed have stairs that go up and down.
Love the history of this place. Convenient location. Clock bar in the lobby has a great whiskey selection and mixed drinks.
I was only here to attend Google io . I live in SF so only took the shuttle to io
Hotel was in a great location on Powell Street. friendly employees. For the price I expected two queen beds not two double beds. There were 4 of us, best friends, all women, in the one room, so queen beds would have made for a more comfortable sleep. Cafe in lobby is way over priced. For a 12 ounce cup of iced tea, which means with ice it was only half cup of tea, I had, to pay $5.75. Ridiculous!!!!
Stayed for two nights and loved everything. Great robes, small rooms, great beds!!
Unfortunately I was not a guest of this establishment, it has a beautiful imposing facade in the heart of the city.
It's a very iconic hotel. We'll appointed rooms and spacious in the new tower. Some of the rooms in the older structure in the front are very tight for someone who is used to larger spaces.
Hotel worthy of its fame. Great location right in the center, near the cable car, it has a stop in front of the entrance, near all the big brand shops, you can reach chinatown on foot. Sure it's expensive, but unfortunately San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the United States, but the impeccable service, very nice suite with even 2 huge TVs, perfect cleanliness. Perhaps the only drawback is that to turn off the light, even the one on the bed, get up. Strange
I went for a conference. It is an old and very stately hotel. Jazz sounds and entering felt I was in a scene from the Titanic. I would have loved to stay there, that by going to the conference was a great price.
The very best hotel from top to bottom. The gym is better than any other ive been in. Ever
The Westin St Francis is one of the most traditional hotels in the city, and if its walls spoke they would tell thousands of stories about the personalities who paraded through its corridors.
Located in the heart of Union Square, it has one of the most privileged locations in the city.
Whether you choose it as your accommodation, or just for a coffee at the bar, this imposing hotel will leave an indelible mark on your memory.
.
Every day there are free guided tours to learn about the fascinating history of this hotel.
You can also explore the corridors on the ground floor on your own, where there is a mini-museum that gathers historical treasures from the hotel, such as pieces of old tableware, the first letters from the restaurant and photographs of the celebrities who passed by the hotel, among other valuable ones. Objects. Be sure to stop by the lavish ladies room located next to the staircase. It is so cute and elegant that you are going to feel like a movie star.
Well appointed rooms with standard Westin features. Being San Francisco, the rooms were smaller but still nice. Very convenient location
Went on a walking tour that began at this hotel. The public bathrooms on the ground floor are immaculate.
Great historic hotel in the heart of San Francisco. Beautiful classically designed lobby and wonderful concierge service.
Very clean and classy hotel. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly!
I didn't pay to stay in a room overnight but I was a guest in a suite for a party. I had a great time as we watched the lighting of the Christmas tree a few years back. We had a great view.
This year I only visited the lobby to experience the Christmas decorations. I am grateful to the hotel for continuing this tradition. I look forward to visiting it every year.
The room is not so large, but I thought the design was good, clean and good. As we use hotel of the person of mountain view who stay higher than quality if we often use, you may feel still more ..
Both the TV and the large smart TV were easy to operate and the internet connection was comfortable.
I think the location is convenient for people in the middle of Union Square, who are shopping or doing business here.
The weak point is that it is not a washlet toilet and that there are no slippers, and it is pointed out that there are other things that the amenities are weak. It will be a complicated construction if the corridors are done later.
Lovely view, great location. Staff was mostly very lovely. A couple didn't quite meet the high standard set by the brand and their fellow colleagues.
Love staying at Westin's and W Hotels. Was a little surprised to see no mini bar which is apparently common place in North America. Shame really... It's a joy by comparison when travelling through Asia to have convenience at a reasonable price with the mini bar.
Beautiful hotel! Great service! The rooms are a bit on the smaller side but quaint none the less.
