A beautiful state building with lush grounds and great walking paths. Many monuments of historic figures and lots of history! Take the free tour if you have the chance to and the time to spend, it's worth it!

This place is way cooler on the inside than I thought it would be. The standout room for me was the House of Representatives room, on the second floor I think. The gift shop had some good stuff and it wasn't ridiculously expensive either. I just wish they would bring back the seersucker ties with the Palmetto/Crescent on them!

We recently visited the State House for a School Choice Rally. This annual event was very exciting. The State House grounds were very clean and inviting. Our children felt very safe and we even threw Frisbees on the lawn with strangers. Although we were invited to go inside and speak with legislators, we elected to remain outside and enjoy the afternoon. We ate Chic-fil-a and watched as they distributed the overflow of sandwiches to strangers as they passed by. Another great place to visit in SC.

The best (only) thing to visit in Columbia in my opinion, otherwise stay on the Interstates..
The building is grand and the grounds are well kept.
Check out one of the free tours and learn a little history.

We visited this capitol building and took the tour. It is a very impressive building. There's lots of dark wood and blue decor. It is one of the most beautiful state capitols we have ever been to. If you're in Columbia, don't miss this. Also, the gift shop is great. It has lots of SC gear and memorabilia.

The state house is absolutely beautiful! The interiors are breathtaking. There are guided tours that you can go on that are very informative and interesting. There is also a cool gift shop with a lot of fairly priced souvenirs. The staff at the state house were very friendly.

Holly Guacamole!!! This is one heck of a nice building. This is made out of nice stone. The carvings. The pillars. The garden. The statues. The displays. The whole complex is an absolutely stunning masterpiece.

You can also see people using it for cardio purposes and they use the front steps like it is a stair master. Once you get to the top of the steps you can take some stunning pictures of downtown Columbia bellow.

I honestly just like going here because there are tons of portals for ingress. Took a while but the security is informed and totally ok with all hours visits. My little girl loves to slide down the front rails too ;-)

Great point of interest to visit when you're in the city. Although not as elaborate as many state capitols I've seen, the tour was very comprehensive and educational. A short film was included to fill in the gaps and the gift shop was small, but had reasonably priced items and a friendly staff. Parking was easy and convenient.

This is a beautiful place to visit. Great history exhibits and statues and very well kept. There are walking trails around it and benches to take a break or take it all in. This should be on any to do list when visiting Columbia.

The lady working the tour desk was super nice. I could tell she missed giving tours. Beautiful capital building. Even during this coronavirus they allow you to roam the building and grounds. Just no tour. Must see!!!

Guided tours are available or you can walk around the State House (since there are two oval shaped pathways) and see the monuments yourself. There is metered parking around the State House. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Beautiful, accessible to citizens, historic - the walls radiate history. Every SC citizen should go see inside at least once. You can even watch the House and Senate in session from the balcony!

Shot some timelapses here last night. It's a really cool building and a nice area in general. The security personnel was very friendly. They checked in on what we were doing and were fine with it.

Really beautiful with a variety of flowers and trees through well maintained walkways.

I love visiting state houses, and this one was a great addition. It's a beautiful building with lots of history, obviously, and everyone I ran into that worked here was quite friendly. It's also one of the more comfortable state houses I've been to-there are lots of chairs for lounging and chatting.

A very sober but not beautiful Capitol, the gardens around it are well kept, but unfortunately I could not visit the inside of the building, with free entrance, as usual in the Campidogli of the various States.
Visited in August 2013.
