South Carolina Department of Social Services Review

My wife's brother has vascular dementia and was put in a facility to help with rehabilitation and was later release to my wife and sister-in law care, They have sent in documents that were fill out for Medicaid services to put him in a rehab facility for additional treatment and care and was connected with a represented that advised her social worker would be in touch, and numerous telephone calls and messages to representive and no response. This department is a joke.

Investigations of parents that are obviously falsely accused by persons retaliating against them are pursued and prosecuted at the tax payers expense. It makes you wonder if their funding is tied to the number of cases they pursue like Florida and Georgia!!!

Harden street. Finally got results they only person that seemed interested to help was the officer at the front. I was given the run around with his help I figured out where exactly I needed to be. Thank you Officer Lopez.

SNAP / Food Stamps : Did you know that you can request a face-to-face Interview at your local county DSS Office ? I didn't . I could NOT get through on the phone for the phone interview . No matter the time of the day or day.. Wish I known this before pursuing the phone interview

I am the grandparent and legal guardian of my two grandchildren who are receiving Medicaid under Healthy Choice. The purpose of the review is to acknowledge one of your employees. Her name is Briana. Unfortunately, I do not have her last name. I neglected to ask her because I was so pleased with her services. I just hope that there is only one Briana as your employee. I am from Charleston, SC. My problem is, DSS has documented my 9 year old granddaughter as the Primary contact person and it needed to be corrected. Important mail would come in her name and it was a problem. After receiving numerous extremely poor services from my local office, I find every time I call the office is Columbia, the customer service that I receive over the phone alone makes me valued and my situations and problems really matter. Briana took the time to LISTEN to my situation, immediately apologized in behalf of the SC Department of Social Services, requested information for her research to solve the matter and informed me that she was putting me on hold to look into my problem. When she returned, she told me that I didn't have to do what the local office wanted me to do. She informed me that all I needed to do was to fax the Medicaid Review form to the number she provided and assured me that the matter would be taken cared of immediately. Briana went above and beyond to not only assist my needs but her apologies in behalf of SC DSS displays her loyalty to her place of employment and where she represents. This shows awesome leadership. May I add that every encounter I receive when I call the Columbia office, the representatives are pleasant. As a customer, I hope Briana and the other employees work ethics don't go unnoticed. Kudos to Briana and the other worthy customer service representatives. Keep up the good work!

I'd like to say that's Ms Lashawn was incredible. Very helpful in what I needed to do in order to get back on track with my life. You can tell she cares. Grateful. thank you!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would!!! This place is a joke. They blame their system for their errors, are constantly sending out wrong information, and the workers are beyond lazy and rude. All they do is give you the run around and different numbers to call knowing you will never get in touch with anybody. They want all your information only to lose it or swear they never received it even when you have proof they did. What a disgrace to South Carolina. I din't see why the governor has not gotten involved.

I called these people at 2:50pm and was on hold. I was told my hold time was over 45 minutes. 1 hour later at 3:50pm, a lady answered and asked for my claim number, first, and last name. She told me to hold and then hung up on me. I called back was told by an automated message to call back on the next business day.

I would like to be able to call in without getting hung up on before 8:30 AM. I got a "due to high call volume call back at..." Then they hung up on me. NO. This is the only time I have, I'd like to wait. But you won't let me. That's very very rude.

Absolutely horrible, great way to steal your social security number, even a bank doesn't need your entire social! Workers are rude, hire some folks that dont have that shanaynay attitude! Constantly calling back duento workers illiterate use of the phone, an intelligent worker wouldnt always hang up. Talk about a corrupt system starting at the bottom. #pathetic

A woman I know has tested positive for drugs multiple times and can't even provide a home for her her children still jas custody of them and her case was closed. But, a woman who has been clean and who's home has been improved can't even have her newborn baby girl and it's really ridiculous because she deserves her baby girl.

I need assistance for my family and I haven't heard anything from anyone on why it's such a delay in my case. I've waited all month long for SNAP benefits only to be told it's processing....SC doesn't want to help its on....I bet if I was an immigrant I'd get all types of help.

Is it possible to give less than a one star? Wow, I wait for thirty two minutes on hold to get confirmation on information given to me two weeks ago by an DSS agents pay on our account. Today I m told I can t be given that information and will need to have the man that s working hard, sweating in the attic, stop and call in to wait for another thrifty minutes and be greeted with an agent with an attitude, all to answer a question. Why are you making it hard for people to give you money? Why the attitude? How is this helping anyone in a time when families are in desperate need? Help! Help! Help! AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE DONE ON HER, NO ONE SHOULD BE SEARCHING FOR PEOPLE TO GET THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO USE FOR PERSONAL USE. BREACH OF PII is what this is. If anyone see's this please bring this to the attention of the right people, so an investigation can be taken place. This woman needs her access taken away, and shouldn't be working in this environnment because her intentions aren't in the right place.

I was given 5 different phone numbers trying to find my case worker. Still never figured out who tf to talk to. Good luck even getting put through to the right robot. Not to mention the website is not user friendly what so ever.

I have been fighting DSS to get custody of my daughter and grand daughter returned since I asked them for help for my grandchild and they were both taken. After two dozen false complaints from a nasty neighbor, they finally made up a reason to take them. Anyone experiencing similar circumstances I would welcome hearing from you. Over 2 years ago they attempted entry in my apartment while my pregnant wife was at work. I had politely informed then that the person who they where looking for has not lived here in a couple of months. They still insisted to get into the apartment saying they had a warrent. I asked to see the warrent and they refused to give me a warrent. So I denied entry. About 10 mins later they showed up with a police officer. I answered the door and walked outside they kept trying to gain entry and I kept denying entry. Now after about 30 mins I got to check on my dog and after I reassure her I turn around and the officer is standing in the living room area of the apt. So yes dss does need to be investigated and I hope for those three dss workers sake that they are punished harshly

This department needs to be completely disbanded. All of the current staff need to be fired. The entire training module needs to be revamped. All new people need to be hired. SCDSS staff are tired, disgruntled, lackluster, nonchalant, and just simply don't care. Sadly, it shows.

The case worker here in greenwood SC are the worst people I've ever met in my life. They take advantage of a unwed father and destroyed my life and then they wanted out of situation. Imagine that huh. Fire then all and start over

My wife and I live in Texas. Our ex daughter-in-law met a man online from South Carolina and after a couple of months decided to move to South Carolina along with her son. We warned her of some domestic violence cases against him but she moved anyway. We told her to leave our grandson with us and for her to move and get to know this man better and get things situated for her son. He is ADHD and is on medication. A month into her new relationship, the boyfriend beats up on the son. She keeps him out of school for a week but when he does go back to school administration call DSS because they notice bruises around the face and neck area. He is picked up by DSS and they take control. During this time we go through the approval procedures for kinship and get approved. We wanted him to be placed on our care but rather than place him with us he went to foster care. He has been in two different homes and its been going on eight months and he is still in foster care. Apparently from what I've been told by the guardian ad litem is that the mother and boyfriend have not finished their classes. Come on it's been more than seven months. The caseworker will speak to us but cannot divulge anything directly related to the case. We have not spoken to our grandson for two months. The caseworker has not returned messages left by me or the grandson's father. I just don't know why he was not placed with us at the time beating took place. Placing him back in that same atmosphere could result in a worse beating or he could end up doing something terrible. I just do not understand South Carolina's Department of Social Services.

It is awfull when you have to do a call in for your snap benefits and the phone is busy for 3 days already. How do they think we can do the interview if they don't answer the phone. I think they take the phone off the hook. They suck at taking care of the people that need this help.

I put in a complaint towards a case worker who was absolutely insensitive to the situation towards my sibling (I'm out of state and heard what happemed). The case worker for child services left a number for adult social services, that not only is not her number but not even her supervisor's. I got the run a round for 3 hours, and 5 different numbers that led in circles to make a verbal complaint. Even when I got a hold of child services, their response to me was that that is the number they were told to give (fyi, they gave me 3 different numbers all going to same info) finally I put in a complaint through their unfriendly user site, 1 month later, nothing. Good luck trying to be a good citizen and bring attention to those who need more training.

Charleston Dept, as an inside friends and family ring going on, There are case worker and having children place with they families to gain income, i was able to adopted three boys from that area the same time i was trying to get my grands, but yet they are still with none family members and not blood, they are doing knowing families don't have the funds for Lawyer, Columbia keep saying we have file a report and the case is close, how could this be, a disable person in the state of south carolina have to pay child support, and the child get their own check,plus the person the place child with get a check from the state. How is this happen 7 years these children are being kept for there family, for DSS worker and friends to gain income, This not right, I will keep fighting for my grands, and the State needs to look in to Charleston case file, we need help fighting them and there lies to cover there ring.

I just had an awesome experience with Kelsey that works in the call center. She was very pleasant and interested in what I had to say. She is the first person that I have dealt with, in the 5 years I have been calling DSS Child support services, that has truly been helpful and have shown compassion with what I have been going through! While at other times calling in and getting brushed to the side by other call center representatives. I think a lot of the representatives that I have spoken to in the past can learn a thing or two about professionalism in the present!

The current system in place for SC DSS is a joke. The phone hangs up on you or you hold for hours while the phone tells you your wait time is more or less than 45 minutes. When you finally do get someone, they have no clue what you are talking about because they are not in your county or even in your part of the state. This is most user unfriendly system I have ever had to deal with. There is no one person you can call who knows you and your case.

My experience with South Carolina Department of Social Services has been a horrible nightmare I move here in October of 2014 and during the month of January 2015 I became financial incapable of providing for myself. I have made several attempts to seek assistance from South Carolina Department of Social Services and each time I was denied with out any further assistance. I was only told "welcome to South Carolina and have a nice day." The State department of Social Services in South Carolina does not aide to assist people in temporary need. This i can prove with documentation and recorded conversation from various locations that i have encounter. I am seeking to resolve this problem here in this state and i will not stop until i get results. Thank you for you attention.

Reverse discrimination reverse discrimination reverse discrimination... inept... some workers should be prosecuted.... after car accident I finally gave up when i took documents in and worker claimed bank statements were phone bills... not worth the effort after 3 months and several visits... I'm back at work now but i will NEVER go there again for help

Dishonest, Incompetent and Unprofessional sums up the experience that the individuals in this office provide. Someone from the Governors office should look into what s going on there.

This is the absolute worst agency I've ever dealt with. I reported sexual abuse against my step children. The case worker, Kelsey Ulrich did not interview the kids, spent a total of 7 minutes in my home to "insure safety" per protocol. The allegations were unfounded against the abuser and my husband and I were indicated for mental abuse for reporting it and having our children examined. Every one of them should be fired.

Y HAVE HAD MY FOODSTAMPS CUT DOWN AGAIN AFTER A SOCIAL WORKER GOT EVERYTHING ALL STRAIGTENED OUT AND NOW I AM DOING WITHOUT FOOD. OTHER PEOPLE AROUND WHERE I LIVE ARE GETTING TO WORK FOR $39.009 DOLLARS A DAY AND NOT HAVE NO STATE OR FEDERAL TAXES TAKEN OUT AND DRAWS FOOD STAMPS WAY MORE THAN ME, AND ARE FINDING WAYS TO LET SOMEONE ELSE USE THEIR CARD TO GET MONEY FOR DRUGS. I NEED FOOD I AM VERY ILL, IN A WHEEL CHAIR AND CANNOT DO LIKE THESE PEOPLE AND I AM STARVING HERE WHAT AM I TO DO?

A good question was asked me when I accompanied a friend to DSS, Why does everyone who works here look like their mad about something? It was only 8:30!!! No truer words were ever spoken!!!

Apparently calling from 420pm till 5pm no one answers the damn phone!
