Highly recommend!!! My husband and I came here for our anniversary and had an amazing time! The music was great. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The smoked chicken was delicious. The mussels were worth every dollar. We don't add the pork sausage but it was still delectable. The mac & cheese did not disappoint. You want to visit here!!

We meet once a month and select a new restaurant each month from small , local spots ALL over NYC.
Soco was a great surprise and we will return much sooner than scheduled in order to savor the fresh flavors , exquisite seafood and attentive staff !
Don't "sleep" on us Seniors as we are the ones with the time and money to roam the streets of NYC in search of the Best each neighborhood has to offer our mature palates !!!
Food was a great and we plan to make time for more treats from SOCO !!!
P.S.- bathrooms clean , roomy and accessible so THERE is no excuse , HURRY to Soco and add a cocktail treat as they add s nice dimension to the meal ! Enjoy !

First time. The wait was decent. I ordered the chicken and so-called red velvet waffles. The waffles are definitely not real red velvet... it s purely food colored red with food coloring. Terrible. The gumbo was bland at best. Great Mimosas though.

Service was HORRIBLE!!! We went for my best friend's birthday and everyone was disappointed!! We waited approximately 2 & a half hours for our food, which only our appetizers came.. The staff was extremely RUDE.. Nobody in our party will ever go back there... DIGUSTED!!

Service was very poor. We had about three waiters and the hostess to try to wait on us. It took forever to get our drinks. Vodka on ice. (Seriously). Mojito was not good and we didn't know who was waiting on us. Also waiting for the food was horrible. Each waiter asurred us our food was on the way. But it did not arrive. I would go back. But I hope that with all of the negative reviews, they would improve their service. Great location. Great food. Very poor service.

Went for brunch. Their mac n cheese is GOOD. Creamy and filling. All that's missing is the lobster and/or bacon. The chicken and waffles (red velvet) is also pretty good. Chickens nice and crispy, and their waffles have this nice, rich cocoa flavor. It's a bit expensive, I dropped $45 for ONE meal. Low-key worth it though. The only thing I didn't like was the crowded-ness, but it's to be expected. It was brunch on a Saturday afternoon before Easter

Been to this place twice and both times loved it. Though it does get crowded and there is a wait if you don't make a reservation, the food is so worth it. We've had basically everything on the menu and were not disappointed. Pork entree was little on a dry side, but everything else is finger-licking good.
The reason i'm giving 4 starts instead of 5: music gets little too loud - makes it impossible to have a conversation; service is slow - waited about 10 min for our server to approach us; strangely it's a little too dark - i don't know about you, but i'd like to see what i'm eating.

It s obvious that the owner put a lot of money into this business. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. I would definitely recommend. However, because this place is so great, it gets very crowded from the time it opens. So definitely make reservations or get there super early. Lastly, they have a somewhat outdoor seating area! It was very clean and beautiful by the way.

Arrived at the restaurant, post my son's graduation ceremony, around 2:15 pm. reservation was for 11 people 9 people came, waited for half hour to be seated. Finally at 3:20 we were seated. Waiter came and asked about water ($5.00 a bottle) and drinks. as previously stated by other reviewers the price of the drinks and the glass the drinks come in. Rip off in the highest order. BYOB!!!!!! Ask for tap water.
Orders were placed and we waited and waited and waited. Other diners came got their meals, ate and left and others were seated, but my table, waited and waited and waited. 2 hours for food, we ate the appetizers and digested it and was still waiting on the main course. Finally food came and it was a let down. Portion size ridiculous, cold, tasteless and lets not forget one dish was under cooked and the waited actually tried to convince us it was cooked. the only thing that actually came to the table that was good was the mac and cheese. the tables around us got their food in a timely fashion, Our waiter was Houdini most of the time, other waiters were helping us, serving us, As per him, he was cooking our food?!?!?!?!?
Then the manager came and said he will adjust the bill, only to go pay the bill and the cashier doing their own thing, we had to go back 3 times before the adjustments were actually implemented.
This was an awfull experience, I know we were in a gentified neighborhood and maybe this is acceptable to the gentified people but this whole experience was distasteful and disgusting,
No I will not be recommending this restaurant nor will I be returning,

Been waiting to try this for awhile, finally made the visit last night. It was so good, i loved the atmosphere, as there was live music and a down to earth vibe. There were 3 of us, we ordered the chicken & red velvet waffle ( i thought the chicken had a unique taste, but the red velvet waffle was sooo good). We had the jambalaya, which was fabulous and the blackened salmon over the sweet potato mash, it was all delicious. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese, i thought it was ok ( unique flavor) but my husband said best mac and cheese he's ever had and we are from the South, so it's worth a try. Also, the peach tea was so good and our waiter was phenomenal. We will definitely be back!

So I've been to Soco many times before and today was the worst experience I've ever had. It was an embarrassment to me and my friends. We paid our bill of $425.only to be told that we owed $285! The server tried to blame us and when we counted the money in front of her she tried to put the blame on someone else. We asked for the manager and when she came we explained the situation, she said she would be right back. She never came. We asked for another manager and when we explained the situation to him, he said he would be right back and never came. We had to go and get him to explain what is he going to do about this! We never got change back from the cash and credit cards were rung and then voided and the rung again. The manager never offered so much as a drink to me and my party of 8. And when we ask can we at least get a drink, he brings a little jar and a glass filled with 1/4 of a drink. He then lied and said he was bringing a second round only to find him outside smoking. Soco clearly doesn't care about customer service and that was my last visit. The food wasn't as good as it used to be anyways.

Visited after not having been in 3 years for a birthday. Not as I'd remembered it at all, sadly. The food (spicy lobster and shrimp grits, herb steak, and brisket) were all severely lacking in flavor. We had to ask for table salt, which I never do at a restaurant. The grits weren't spicy at all and the brisket was overly sweet. The mac and cheese was still good but seemed like a smaller portion than I remembered with a higher price? Also, there's a $20 cake cutting fee, which I thought was exhorbitant especially since all the staff did was cut the cake into 4 pieces and bring them out to us with the cake boxed back up. Meaning, the birthday girl wasn't able to see the cake before cutting into it and that we weren't given the option of an additional slice. Two stars for the mac and nostalgia.

If you enjoy overpriced food and drinks loud music in a pretentious high class setting then this is your spot My girlfriend ordered a $30 plate of chicken and waffles which had 3 little chopped pieces of white meat chicken. THEIR SANGRIA WAS WATERY AND HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL ITS ALL HYPE THEY ONLY PAY ATTENTION TO THE LARGE GROUPS AND I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED BASED ON ALL THE REVIEWS I READ. PEOPLE JUST HANG OUT HERE TO PASS THE TIME AND BS WITHOUT ACTUALLY ORDERING FOOD... THERE I SAVED YOU $100+ AND A POTENTIALLY BAD VIBE

The food was amazing and my sever Lamar was just exceptional in his delivery of service I appreciate good customer service but on the other hand the manager and another server unknown names where completely unprofessional and I had to voice it and her, I was mid sangria and asked to get up because there was other people waiting after paying almost 200 for the meals. Her excuse is she is extremely overwhelmed. SOCO WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN.

I truly love this restaurant. My partner and I normally go here for our anniversary or other big events because it's so special and so amazing. If we stayed in Brooklyn we would most likely go here every day. The food is always amazing and the servers are always genuine and kind. Don't be afraid to ask them what their favorite item on the menu is. They give great advice. I can't wait to return!

Great food, great atmosphere. Food did take longer than expected but it was nice of the host to come over and apologize for the long delay. But it was all worth it. I'll be coming to eat here again.

Went for my birthday on a Saturday and it was crowded, but that s to be expected. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The food took awhile but was worth it. I d skip the appetizers next time though. Overall, a successful birthday dinner!

I adore this place! They serve delicious food, they have a nice menu, The cook in that spot is a specialist, I enjoy a lot eating all their dishes. The food is always fresh, the attitude towards the guests is good. I often eat in this restaurant and I not even once was disappointed. I recommend it with no hesitation.

Wish they had more vegetarian/vegan options. I understand that "soul food" might not be the most vegan friendly, but this place looked great, and we would have stayed if they gave us something to work with.

Red velvet waffles was nothing but red coloring.

Chicken DRY!

Customer service horrible!

Added tip without my consent which is illegal!

Really deserves a big fat zero. Highly disappointed.

I dream about the greens at Soco! I'm not even joking, they were so flavorful and the perfect mix of spices. My friends and I ventured to Soco after First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum. We got there around midnight and were immediately greeted and seated in the back patio. I loved everything about my visit to Soco. The restaurant is modern and the service was great. I also ordered a drink, grits and split the mac and cheese with a friend. I have nothing bad to say about Soco. We sat around chatting until 2am when the restaurant closed. I can't wait to get back to try the chicken and red velvet waffle!

When in Brooklyn find a good restaurant, so many spots to choose from.

We stumbled onto Soco and glad we did. Nice twist to Soul Food.

The waitress was very personable and engaging, great service is always a must otherwise what's the sense.

The corn bread and the mac-n-cheese(not for one person, you'll see) a must!

I had the Organic Bar-b-que Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and String Beans was good, they smoke the chicken extensively and well worth it.

The potatoes were very tasty, but they were whipped so well there were no lumps, I personally prefer different consistency by being more mashed which provides some potato lumps.

Others had the wingettes which were delicious as well.

Many other items on the menu, so choose your preference.

Excellent brunch option. The food was fantastic...especially the shrimp and grits. It had the best cheese to grit ratio I've ever seen. I was pleasantly surprised by it's covered (and heated) outdoor area. The ambiance was fantastic for Sunday afternoon with the girls.

Great service the staff was very attentive. They just had a staff meeting so it fired up the workers to be on there grind. We had water filled up everytime it went down to a 25% to depletion lol. It was a little overwhelming at time but cool. The waiter was pretty good. He made a recommendation on dessert gave such a vivid description I felt I knew what I was going to have. The hostess did a wonderful job at seating each guest at the bar to wait. I am as well looking around restaurant because I'm a people person. As the staff meeting being held, she managed wait time lovely. Very smartly done! Utilizing the "baseball game" as another distraction helpe. My partner and I had a great time, great laughs new memories. Love to see Brooklyn in the right direction growth in NYC! Love it!

Just left the restaurant. Had a 5:30 reservation. Was told that I could not be seated until 6:00. I left because I should have been told that I would have to wait 30 mins. MARC THE OWNER was within hearing distance, and did not say one word. He just looked. KENYA is my girl, and I wont be back

Flew all the way from London with the intention of visit this place. Bought an apartment in the bronx, travelled over an hour and got there at 5pm to be told the kitchen wasn't open! Quite confused and pissed off, wouldn't bother even trying to go there again.

The food is delicious, however it's so expensive and they offer nothing to snack on while you wait. A party of 5 = $193.89. Too expensive so I don't think I'll be going back again lol, unless I split the bill that is.

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Sunday. Got there at 12:15 (they opened at 12) and it was ALREADY completely full, we waited 5 minutes before the staff was kind enough to let us turn one of the waiting tables into a table to eat. Our server Rob was super sweet and he gave us cornbread while we waited! The plates were a decent size, but they are overpriced. The atmosphere is really noisy and it's so crowded, with people waiting inside and out for a table. Would come back again at a slower time and order something different.

Food was delicious. The Mac and cheese is always a goody and red velvet waffles with fried chicken is a must have. Service at the bar was poor. I enjoy coming for the food, but they need to step up the service.
