As the owner of a property, I am not allowed to see if there is a leftover balance when my tenant moves out. Hence, returning deposit and assuming I won't get asked for $ if there is a balance is my current situation. DUMB

SMUD. WOW. All I am trying to do is set up an account. Ive called multiple times, Ive removed a credit freeze *since ive had my identity stolen* I cant use the online portal, I cannot make it to the office during business hours, and other utility companies have already set up services with me. BUT... not smud. they continue to give me the run around, even though the account has no freeze on it at this point. the customer reps are atrociously rude and condescending as the kicker of all this. horrible customer service

First time calling customer service. Judd was brilliant. Gave his suggestions but went to go check to make sure his advice was correct and if anything was missing. Thats why he gets 5 stars. Overall good customer experience. As a whole company in terms of outages not much different than a corporate giant like PG&E, so really not much complain about, at least not yet

The customer service staff at the call center are first rate!
They are uniformly professional, knowledgeable, personable, and very patient with me.
It's always a pleasure talking to them, and they always answer my questions.
This is one of the best things about SMUD.

I appreciate the customer service, the energy assistance program, and the ability to pay my bills with ease. The SMUD rep came to my residence today and he was very polite and helped solve an issue I had for some time and was unaware of why. Thanks so much for such great service! I wish I could obtain a job here...seems like a great business.

SMUD usually provides good service but my power has gone out for the last three consecutive days! VERY ANNOYING!! I hope they drop the excuses about a blown fuse for three days and get back to providing good service. After all, I don't have a choice for my electric service provider!!

Incredibly unhelpful customer service. Computer system charged me twice, when I called to have one of the payments canceled they told me I needed a letter from the bank. Got the letter, faxed it to SMUD, then they said that won't work. They then suggested using the funds for credit on next months bill, but that won't help me buy food for Thanksgiving. Not that SMUD cares. PG&E is way better.

Had to drive 25 miles each way in 100 degree heat ...

Had to drive 25 miles each way in 100 degree heat to their office to establish Electric service since they could not do it over the phone (Unlike PG&E). They will NOT accept my Medical eligibility as proof of low income, so I had to submit everything online & wait. Meanwhile I was charged $95 for less than 2 months of service (I am ONE person & I don't even turn the AC on, to save electricity). $21 a month base charge is charged regardless of what you use. I was using $6 a month of electricity and have to pay this $21/mo charge. This is such a Rip Off. Unlike PG&E which accepted my proof over the phone & doesn't charge these inflated rates. SMUD is a Monopoly since there is no other choice for electricity. They call themselves a "Community" service organization. Meanwhile their CEO makes $800K a year, for doing what exactly ??? There is nothing about them that says community, only Profit and GREED. There is NO competition so they can charge whatever they want. Yet another typical GREEDY American company that cares ONLY about itself. Go out of business already.

SMUD has been very difficult to work with. They are a non-profit agency that nickel and dimes their customers to death. They try to get their customers to pay for problems created by SMUD. They damage your property while making repairs and do not fix the damages. They don't return calls and threaten to disconnect your power without giving reasons. If I could use a different company for my electricity I would. The only benefit they provide is cheap electrical service.

Hello, I am writing this review about Diana, I was so far behind paying my SMUD bills for several months, on 1-Oct-20, I decided to start paying for my Smud bills so I called the Smud customer care phone # and a lady picked the phone said her name is Diana, I was a bit unhappy before the phone call, then Diana said you can pay partially if not totally, and she
helped me and explained to about the summer high peak hours and summer rates etc.. she even guided me over the phone on how to make payment on the SMUD App. she made everything so easy for me, she is very nice and polite person, thank you Diana.

When did smud go digital, I remember when they were in trouble for estimating bills and now modern tech gave them total power over everyone.
We have to pay and they know it but during a pandemic and come on people this happens on a weekly basis for me.do you all want to hear the sad story of how many civil rights violations will I have before I'm fully back on my feet after 25 years and 15 surgeries.
Lol this country is on a dangerous ledge.

Sent me one billing statement by mail and then stopped sending statements. Now telling me I have a past due balance even though they did not send me any new bills or email bill notifications. Tried multiple times to access my account with new passwords they sent twice but still been unable to access my account. Poor customer service, online services, and billing services.

If you can stay away from this company I would.. I m in middle of filling lawsuit on smud. This company charged my residents 300 dollars. Saying it s from 2015 it s almost 2019 and they can not provide documentation of this so called charge just that I owe it. I m sry I m not going to pay for something you can not prove was mine in first place... I ll see u in small claims court...And truly hope this lawsuit opens up a can of worms. And makes you pay for all the fraudulent things you do...

Wondering WHY my bill is more than last year this month when our dryer has been out for the last month and we have been extremely careful about our electricity usage during the higher rate part of the day (5pm-8pm). I second that a lawyer and legal action must be taken immediately because something very fishy is going on here

Their customer service is CRAP. When my husband called in to arrange a payment they said they could ONLY talk to me so I we had to Call back. When I call the following day, they refuse to talk to me regarding the account because it's under my husband's name. WHAT IDIOTS ARE WORKING THERE THAT TOLD THE ONLY PERSON APPROVED IN THE ACCOUNT THAT THEY CANNOT ACCESS THE GODDAMN ACCOUNT?? BECAUSE IF TBIS BULLSHIT OUR POWER FOR TURNED OFF THIS MORNING. BECAUSE THEY MESSED UP, AND THEN THEY TRIED TO PUT THE BLAME.ON MY HUSBAND SAYING HE "MISUNDERSTOOD."

This place is a joke, I have been watching my energy consumption way more than last year and making sure I don t cook dinners or leave anything on during the FORCED time of day rate that I am FORCED to have. My bills is about $50 more than what it was this month last year. I ve added insulation and weather stripping to all doors within that time too. So you re telling me I ve made energy efficient changes to my home, started watching my energy consumption which I DID NOT DO last year and now my bill is higher than last year? It s a joke that I m forced into this time of day pay rate and it s costing me more. This should be looked at by a lawyer and a class action lawsuit should be filed. I m unfortunately forced to use them as my electricity company.
