I brought the car in for air bag recall fix. I also asked them to diagnose an unusual noise. They gave me a free loaner car overnight so there would be sufficient time to do both actions. They finished the work promptly and gave me excellent input regarding the noise and future actions to take. The dealership is comfortable with many amenities and they provide trustworthy service. Therefore, I went back the next day and purchased a new car.
My partner and I recently purchased a used vehicle from Totota Smart Motors. The staff members were friendly and kind, the vehicle was in excellent condition. My recommendation is to do your research ahead of time - kelley blue book, edmunds, craigslist searches in major cities to really know the market value of a vehicle before you begin to negotiate. If you don't feel comfortable making a deal, take the time to decide what feels right for you and your budget and don't get rushed into anything.
I was referred to Smart from a family member that swears by them. After having a horrendous experience at another Toyota dealer, I was very skeptical. I am glad to say that I was wrong and happy that I made the hour trip and met with Al Franklin. It is few and far between that I write a review, but after having two opposing experiences, I had to share. Every person we came in contact with at Smart Toyota was warm and helpful. Al Franklin is knowledgeable, patient and made sure we had a fair and pleasant purchase. I truly felt that it wasn't just a sale, but an opportunity for them to create a lasting relationship. I will definitely recommend Smart Toyota to anyone I know looking for a vehicle, Toyota or not.
The buying experience was good and our salesperson Todd Wersland did a nice job. He was easy to contact and responsive, good job. Also my wife and I thought the way they had everything set up when we picked up our new truck was VERY nice. The truck was inside and a person went through all the features on the truck. Overall we were pleased with our experience with Smartmotors.

I returned to dealer a couple days later to negotiate on a second vehicle. We were unable to reach a number on the vehicle, but I still give this experience a 5 star. I felt respected and it was not high pressure. Sometimes when purchasing a new vehicle it comes together and sometimes it does not. Both of my interactions with the Smart Toyota staff were very positive, when we came to a mutual number and I purchased and when we were unable to come to an agreeable number and I had to walk away.

Last time I had my vehicle in I got it back earlier than expected. They also did some minor pain touch up, which was a nice touch. I didn't ask them to, but they took the extra initiative to make sure my vehicle was returned in better shape then when I brought it in. Manuel Socorro greeted me when I arrived and asked if he could help me or I would like someone else do to his broken English. I said it would be great if he could help me. I had been to multiple dealers and was told I could not get what I wanted and others that told me they could special order if I paid a large deposit. He talked to the order manager and they were able to get exactly what I wanted after 6 weeks at a price I was willing to pay. When I went to pick it up there were no surprises and I was out in 90 minutes. Best car shopping experience ever.
They're the best for buying a new vehicle... I've bought three from them!... But beware the service department... They will rake you over the coals if you let them.
Request Jessica if you're in the market for a Used car. I've worked with her twice now and I appreciate that she is not pushy and overbearing. I do not particularly enjoy dealing with hardcore salespeople, so working with Jessica is a breath of fresh air. She is also very on top of communication and advocates for you to get the best deal. The only thing I did not appreciate is that on both occasions, the managers were borderline demeaning. Pro tip -- don't tell customers that your employee is "still pretty new" after she's been doing a fantastic job. Show some respect and don't undermine your employees!
Had a scheduled appointment and still had to wait a few minutes before someone came out and got things rolling. Otherwise I'd say I'm very pleased with the service and the courtesy of the employees.

I just purchased a new camry from JD at Smart motors and couldn't of had a better experience. JD and the whole crew I worked with At Smart were just great to me. They have done a great follow up and answer any of my questions. I can't see any future problems as they have been so caring thus far and JD went out of his way to do all he could to see to it I understood everything and got the car and features on it I wanted. My experience with Mike Schultz was great. He told me what I needed done and gave me an estimate in an hour. I got to choose my rental car that he covered the cost for, and he had my car done for me by the end of the next day. Mike was very professional and great to work with. The down side was some of the other employees. They were unprofessional and very loud while Mike and I were talking over my car. But over all I would go back again.
the service was good people. People were friendly. The weight is a little long an hour to hour and a half for an oil change. they did offer to change my cabin air filter for $50. That is really really high since it's basically just paper and you can get them for $10 online and change yourself in about 2 minutes.
We ve bought 4 cars total from Smart Toyota and we ll continue to buy more in the future! Gary was our sales guy, he was extremely knowledgeable of the vehicles and the buying process as well as added accessories. He made the process fun and exciting! Justin was our finance guy, he was great! He had things well prepared so we could hurry and get out of there to enjoy the excitement of our new car! He also made the finance experience pleasant and relaxing and not stiff and awkward that some business transactions can sometimes be. Smart Toyota is the greatest Toyota dealership around and we would recommend them to everyone! They have great service and who wouldn t want free cookies while you re waiting on you re routine maintenance to be completed!
Pros: The people are nice, the facilities are good, and I once got a free 7 minute massage or similar. I have confidence they know what they are doing and often they are able to take an appointment for the same week.
Cons: I think I was over charged for my 2012 Prius I don't like negotiating so that's partly on me. Some of their prices are too high (e.g. inverter fluid change quoted to me at $274).
Some other notes: They serviced my car once and brought it back to me with a hand sized crack in windshield. They explained to me it must have already had a chip in it from when I was driving it. They did decide to replace it after we talked about it.
Another time I wanted to learn how much it would cost to replace my door lock. It was going to take two trips to the dealership and cost ~$650. While this is pretty normal for the industry, I just couldn't afford it.
I will continue to use them for some of their services.
Today I had an appointment for an oil change for a vehicle that was bought here. First I had no idea where to go because there isn't a sign anywhere to tell you where to go for a oil change (not an express) After driving around the building and not seeing a sign as to where to go I finally pulled into a door that opened automatically (I was still not sure if it was the right place to be). After standing out side of my vehicle for over 10 minutes, someone finally came out to see if I needed help. He said to stand by my car til someone ELSE comes out to help me. (I watched 3 different groups of employees total of 7 different people look at me and go back the conversations that they were having. All were Smart employees and none were working or helping any customers) Another 5 minutes passed before someone finally came out to take my name and keys and see what I was doing there. It took over an hour and a half to get the oil changed. While I was waiting 2 other people came for oil changes and were out in less then 45 minutes. Some how they were done before a person with an appointment and who had already been waiting. This might be the worst service I have had in a VERY long time anywhere! One very disappointed customer!
I had a problem getting lug nuts of my wheels to rotate my tires. Called Smart, got in within 10 minutes, found out lug nuts had "swollen" and had to be replaced. Job was done within an hour and was under $100. Additionally, car was delivered washed and driver compartment cleaned. Excellent experience.
Buying a 2021 Venza at Smart Toyota was very smart. The process was very easy with assistance from Mark Heckle, Al Franklin and Dana Raker. I have purchased 13 Toyotas, the last 7 from Smart. The support is good from the day you purchase the vehicle to the day you sell your vehicle. Great products, great people!

Could not get a straight answer from "Live chat." Asked if 4WD was standard on the RAV4 hybrid. NEVER got an answer. They kept asking for detailed information about me. I am not a housewife, and yes I need 4WD for my volunteer work as a ski patroller. Car sales people are the most disingenuous lot. Ugh.
had a satisfactory experience at the dealer. They gave a pretty good discount off of list price. Would have given 5 stars but they low balled the offer for my trade,according to KBB they could have come up more than they did.
I have been to this dealership for work many times. Tuesdays visit was definitely not satisfactory, as far as someone letting me know my car was done. This has happened before. I was sitting in the waiting room, so have no idea how I could have missed my name being called but even so that is why they have my phone number! They have used the number before to ask me questions, etc. But no call or text. I waited for 2 hours. When I asked for an update, the gal at the desk pulled my paperwork and keys out of her drawer, stating it was done. I asked how long it had been done and she said about 10-15 minutes. That is impossible as I had been sitting in the closest chair to the desk (less than 10 feet away) for at least 45 minutes. It seems at least half of the times I have come to Smart Toyota, there has been some sort of problem. Not good. I think I need to drive across town to another Toyota dealership in the future. Going to Smart Toyota is a 50/50 gamble, and I am tired of the problems and lame apologies.

I purchased a used 2014 and the service I received was impeccable. Jason Hepperly was the first salesman I saw and he was great!! I was looking during my lunch hour and did not expect to get much accomplished but upon leaving I had all the details I needed to make a decision. Then on Saturday took my wife in and sent him a text 15 minutes prior to our arrival and he had an appoint set up with a new customer which he handed off to someone else, they bought a car that day so Jason lost put on that sale. At any rate we did not have our title because I was just going to show the car to my wife to see if she liked it since it was going to be her car then I would work on the deal the following Monday, we did end up making a deal on Saturday and picked up our new car on Monday. When we picked up the car and I was very impressed with the service area, it was very cold outside and we pulled the new car and our old car into a staging area inside and learned all of the controls and switch things from our old car to the new car, it was great. I have been buying cars for over 30 years and this has been the best car buying experience I have ever had.
This place is fine, however the stuff here are not as good, I submitted my info as I'm interested in getting a RAV4 Hybrid for my wife, it took almost a day for them to have someone shoot me an email. And after I replied to that email with some questions they never replied back. Another time we decided to get into the store the sales man shows no interest of making a deal with us maybe because we brought our 10 months son? He did not introduce any special deals or even go over some options with us. CANNOT recommend.
Clean, welcoming atmosphere and friendly people. But didn't fix my problem. I took my 2013 Camry in because of a rattle in the trunk. I understand that those problems are hard to diagnose, but this was my second complaint on the same issue and they told me they had fixed it. It is not fixed. I emailed the service advisor (Chris Webber) saying I was disappointed and have not gotten a response in 2 weeks. Doesn't take much to reply with an apology and offer to set up another appointment.
I was served as soon as I arrived. The waiting room was very pleasant. The work was completed quickly and everyone was very courteous. I even got a massage and my car got washed.

I recently purchased a used vehicle at Smart Motors in Madison and both the service and professionalism were outstanding. I worked with Chris who verified my appointment an hour ahead of time and had the vehicle prepared better than even the online ad indicated. They beat my preapproved financing that I was already happy with by almost 20%. Start-to-finish I believe I was there maybe 2 hours at most.

The 2011 Toyota Highlander was going strong at 105,000 miles. (We would have kept it much longer except that it was recently stolen.) Other than maintenance we experienced few issues. Those two matters were problems with windows in the driver's side door and the back window wiper blade.
We have high hopes for ownership of the 2018 Toyota Highlander for a long, long time.
(Including the 2011 Highlander and the 2014 Scion XB we owned our Toyota cars and pickups an average of eleven years. So Toyotas endure.)
Went to Budget Smart 10/20/2017. Very accommodating service. Two managers helped me immediately. I was treated with a great amount of respect and service. Initially, I saw a particular vehicle I was interested in online ... which was helpful to me in order be efficient in my search. There are many dealerships in Madison, but I wanted to get the vehicle the same day I was shopping.
Tim was the sales associate I worked most directly with; very personable and friendly. (Wish I could recall the other Manager's name; but he was very helpful as well!) At the end of the day of shopping I was really pleased driving away in my newly purchased Toyota.
I recommend giving Smart Motors Toyota a visit if you are looking for a good used vehicle. I needed to replace my vehicle that was 'totaled' due to hitting a deer on the way to work in the early morning hours.
We drove three hours to look at a used 4Runner at Smart Budget, and they did an accurate job of describing details and condition online and over the phone. We felt taken care of but not pressured, and went home with the 4Runner. So far so good! I will definitely recommend them to others.

I ve waited over 2 1/2 hours for an express lube in the past. This evening I paid for over $1,000 in repairs and then found a coupon in my purse. The cashier informed me that I couldn t use the coupon after the transaction. Very disappointing, after dropping that much they wouldn t honor a $20 coupon. A customer was lost! After the transaction I didn t even get a thank you from the cashier, eating her salad was more important.
I recently needed to get my car in quickly, to have a new starter replaced. The service people were fantastic! Advice was given over the phone, an appointment to make the repair was offered up same day, and a rental car was available for me to use. I'm always pleased with the professional and friendly attention of the service people. I asked for a re-manufactured starter for my 18 year old Corolla with 110,000 miles, to save on the expense. It was available and installed. Thanks so much for the great experience and prompt service.

I've had great service and results at Smart. My lease originated at the East side Madison Toyota, but I took my Camry to Smart Toyota for all of the service appts. They were friendly, timely and thorough. When my lease was up, I rolled into a new lease at Smart Toyota. The process was simple and painless. I'm not a fussy customer and I expect the process to be quick and easy. I wasn't forced into anything I didn't want and all of my questions and "what if's" were answered. My salesman Rodney was juggling two customers at once and was apologetic and polite. I experienced the same situation at the East Side and my sales person there was away from our conversation for extended periods of time (15+ minutes) - multiple times. This made me a tad frustrated because I was the one that had the appointment and the other customers were walk-ins. Very happy with my Toyota and the 2 year service plan and new features that come with this car.
We have snow tires and when we have them removed we like to make sure the spacers are kept together. Last year they didn't put them back and we had to go to a third party vendor to buy the spacers. So this year we made sure to tell them to keep them together but once again they forgot. This is very annoying.
I worked with Al Franklin and would recommend him to anyone that wants to buy a Toyota. He was very friendly and knew the product well, was not pushy and allowed us to make our decision on our own time.
Had issues with the affiliated used car lot, Smart Budget, and since I wasn't getting anywhere with the sales rep, I called the VP, Allen Foster. It took him 5 hours to get back to me but sounded sincere when I expressed my issue. He told me he'd call me back but never did. I've left a voicemail and called back 4 times and can't reach him. Very disappointed with the lack of help.
Needed 4 Tires for my 2013 Tundra Crewmax. Got 4 quotes and found some cheaper options. Called Smart and got their tire pro and he was quite informed, dare I say "Smart"?? He told me he had cheap tires as well, but do you want to save money now, or save money in the extra year or so that I would get by buying the best Michelin's that were made for my truck. Installed with an alignment performed by a Toyota trained tech it was $50 bucks more then Costco basic installation(no alignment offered), they washed my truck which was filthy from SD vacation and they gave me a loaner for the day too boot! Oh Yah, and the cookies were warm too! That's how a business can Thrive! I was "Wowed"
I was very pleased with the level of service at Smart Toyota when I purchased my new car. The salesman was very honest and easy going. The rest of the staff was friendly. I chose Toyota again because the cars are very reliable, fuel efficient and have most features that you would want. I have experienced very good service at this particular dealership in the past.
Amazing staff, and very helpful. My 2017 Prius was totaled with all the flooding that happened in our area over the past 2+ weeks. I let Justin Calvert and Sam Pettigrew know what was going on with my flooded car, and within a week they had me driving a 2018 Prius. Absolutely amazing! And Justin has assisted me through the Gap Insurance process. They have treated us like family! I will be buying my vehicles for the foreseeable future from Smart Toyota.
I brought my car in because it was making a weird noise. The diagnostic was to cost $130, with no loaner because I didn't buy the car there. They held the car for the entire day to do said 1 hour diagnostic and an oil change.
I got a call saying my wheel bearing needed repair and it would be $725, not including the $130 diagnostic. I called around and got a quote for $450 and $550 (including a loaner and diagnostic) respectively from master certified Toyota specialists. One place warned me that the diagnostic should really have only taken 30 minutes and that I was getting ripped off.
When I went to the service center after my car being there for 7 hours, it still wasn't ready to go. I was told the drive portion of the diagnostic took 15 minutes, the car was in the joist for 45 minutes. When I challenged that statement with the information given to me by the other car place, the joist time magically dropped to 35 minutes.
The amount of nickel and diming done today, along with outright lying, means my family will no longer frequent Smart Toyota. I would encourage other families, especially women, go elsewhere for their service, as the attitude from the service men seemed to be that females knew nothing and attempted to take advantage of that.
The only redemption for this place is that the front desk guys were very personable.
Estimated time for an oil change, tire rotation, and brake inspection was about 1 hr 15 min. I was in and out of there in about 45 minutes! Super fast and friendly service and super nice waiting area. Definitely going to go back the next time my car needs service!
This was the best experience we have ever had. The children's section was actually suited to children and my wife and I were able to relax while going through the paperwork process.

Had a routine oil change and tire rotation, but there was nothing routine about the service. The service rep was awesome and explained what work needed to be done that day or could wait until next time. I was in and out in an hour even with a free car wash on one of the first spring days.
