Shogun by Saisaki Restaurants Review

We've been here twice just before visiting the VA Mariner's Museum right near by. Fantastic fried shrimp.

The food was great passed by the place for years glad i decided to stop in a new favorite

Normally I don't post reviews but on this occasion I felt it was warranted. I was on business to the Newport News area as I frequently am. I have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Harpoon Larry's and usually frequent this particular one with collegues or customers. This time I made arrangements to meet my mother for lunch there while I was in town ( I live in the Richmond area). The food was outstanding as usual, however when I orderd a refill of tea the waitress spilled the glass on to the table and subsequently into my lap. Now in my 41 years of life this hasn't ever happened, so I kinda expected my meal would be comped, a manager to stop by and see how things were or something to that effect. That isn't what happened the waitress who was extremely apologetic offered a dessert, now if my pants weren't soaked I might have considered it, but I wasn't trying to eat any more while wet and an hour and a half drive back to Richmond ahead of me. As seen on the receipt 14 dollars was taken off the Bill for the lobster that was only half eat due to the plate of tea that I now had in it after I had to request it be taken off cause I certainly wasn't going to eat the rest of my lobster covered in a plate of tea. Now if the manager didn't know by this time what had happened they most certainly did after my request and yet still no visit from management. I probably won't be back anytime soon and definitely not with my customers. I am sure it was just as embarrassing for the waitress as it was for me and by no means do I blame her because she did a fine job and it probably isn't the last time something like this will happen but when your in a service industry and want repeat business the manager on duty should have definately made an appearance and done more to make it right. Only thing I can guess is they didn't care.

The crab cake was a little overcooked. Great experience with everything else.

I had the oyster (fried) salad. The oysters were large and sweet and the dressing was tangy and sweet. Very nice. The sweet potato fries my companions had were very tempting.

Celebrated my 54th birthday there today with my family. The wait staff was very nice and catered to your every need with a smile. Food so fresh and delicious, great atmosphere. Loved it, great place too eat

Great food, great time with our very large group (22). Easy dealing with separate checks. Fried and sauteed softshell crabs both got rave reviews, as did the Holy Gumbo and the fried oysters. Salads were a generous size and very fresh. Waitstaff were there when needed.

I had a lovely time! The staff was great and the food and drinks was off the chaine! Lol i was celebrating my birthday theirs! Everybody had on masks and social distancing!

Holy Gumbo, gotta try it. You wont be disappointed. Great service and food.

Great fish, great place to get oysters of all kinds. Their flounder stuffed with crab is delicious and their fish tacos.

Just loved this place, casual dinning at it's finest. Best raw oysters ever, and topped the evening off with blackened flounder washing it down with cold draft beers. Great service to boot!

I've been here a couple of times while visiting the area and have never had a bad experience. Food is always tasty, beer selection good and service was spot on.

No impressed. Atmosphere is great. Food. Terrible to me. Seems like everything was battered and fried in same grease. Portion was not great. Honestly I don't ever have to come here again. Now oyster Rockefeller was good.

I wasn't impressed at all the food was mediocre..the seafood didn't taste like seafood from the Bay.. it tasted like regular cheap Seafood out of a grocery store.. when you eat at bubba's on shore drive you know the difference

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night this was based on a recommendation from a local. It was very crowded and noisy. But the food and the service were very good. I had the scallops, lump crab meat and shrimp, then I had some steamed clams and topped it all off with key lime pie. I really liked the hush puppies! They were sweet and moist. Everything was very good and served quickly. The prices are what I would have expected. This was well worth the visit and I think if I'm in the area again I would go back but hopefully maybe on a night that isn't so noisy.

Bar was good, drinks were good but the fish BLT sandwich was lacking. Served on a 8" hoagie the fish was less than 5". For the price, not worth it.

Great experience. Polite waitress. Served fast and still very fresh and tasty. Never had fried oysters what a first.

I had the great fortune of visiting Harpoon Larry's, and was very satisfied. Service was swift, courteous, but most of all, everything we ordered was delicious. I will be revisiting soon.

I was a fan of everything but the apple slaw. It was a little too sweet for my tastes.

Delicious fresh seafood. I had the special blackened scallops on grits with a corn crab relish. So good. My husband had oysters on the half shell and crab cake dinner. Excellent also. Crab cake was blackened and a little spicy, but delicious.

Very fresh fish, family owned and local, great staff our waiter Travis was amazing and the catch of the day (red snapper) was so fresh you could almost smell the ocean!

It stays packed and small parking lot. Hard to find a s parking space. I got the crab cake dinner 1 crab cake and 1 side for $20. Over priced if you ask me . Wife had the burger with no bun

Can't saymuch more than I already have about my favorite spot in that area.

Best seafood I ve found here. The shellfish are cooked perfectly. My favorite restaurant

Quite over priced and very loud. Long John silvers would be a better choice.

We are from NC and came to Newport News for a NCAA game to watch our daughter. Staff and food was phenomenal. You don't get it this fresh where we are from.

My first time visiting Harpoon Larry s Fish House. My son said the food was good, but we might have to wait for a table, that right there tells you the food is good. I got shrimp and grits served with hush puppies and my son got the burger topped with a crab cake slider with fries. The shrimp on his plate in the picture is one of mine for him to taste, lol. You got pretty large portions, prices comparable to surrounding restaurants. Food was seasoned well and cooked as requested. Shrimp and grits had a touch of heat, but not overwhelming at all. Although I did have a Rum Runner with Barcardi 151, since I wasn t driving, that got me sweating a little. I will definitely eat here again when I m visiting family.

Found this Amazing spot after a quick search on Google. Absolutely the best!!! Place was packed wall to wall...I know why it's a local favorite now. Had Crab legs, Oysters Rockefeller, Oysters and Clams on the half shell, BBQ shrimp wrapped in bacon, Wings, Calamari, Quesadilla and Bloody Mary...EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!

The service was horrible. We were not given utensils and had to get up, go to the bar, and ask for them. There was only one waitress, maybe 2 (we couldn't tell if she was waiting on tables or not), and the place was packed. Took an hour to get our food then our party of 4 wan't served at the same time. The food was decent.

Food was okay, server was horrible. She didn't write down our order (party of 7), she completely forgot to put in 3 orders. Manager had to comp 2 dishes!

What I had was the shrimp scallops and imperial crabmeat absolutely delicious. I had Rockefeller! Yum! Wish I had taken a picture! It was so good ! Thank you Keith Maranto!

Service was not the best... food was good as always. Could have been warmer

I go to harpoon Larry s every once in a while and they ve always had great customer service but my last visit was disappointing
