I booked a stay at this hotel and had to cancel the reservation as I was no longer needing the room. The reservation allowed me to cancel without any penalty and I did so well before the reservation dates. My credit card had been initially charged when first booking. However, they have not reversed or cancelled the charge and it has been a month since this occurred. I have called numerous times to try to resolve with no success. Still no reversal.. ridiculous!! How many times do I need to call and how long does it take to submit the reversal?? I have had to pay off my credit card balance to cover this charge that never occurred since they have been so slow to correct.

Stayed here for three weeks on a business trip. It was a great experience with a clean, quiet and comfortable room. The staff was completely friendly and professional and kept the hotel "humming". The hotel is dated, but it has nestalsia, and history. If you go downstairs to the museum there have been a few famous people that have stayed there like Calvin Coolidge and Mae West during the 1930s and 40s.
I hope that management continues to invest in the upkeep of this hotel because it has high class that the modern hotels in the area don't have.

Omg. Chris at the front desk!!!! He made my experience at the Gunter amazing. He noticed my birthday was a few days before and actually took the time to wish me happy birthday. He knows the great places to go around downtown and is more than willing to be helpful. Thank you so much Chris. If you have any questions or need to know where to go, Chris is your guy.

Friendly helpful staff. Great location near the River Walk and downtown. Two things reduce my rating; 1) they turned off the AC for repairs 6am-6pm on a hot summer day, and 2) the hotel ran out of regular coffee. I'm not joking, they only had decaf for the in-room coffee makers. Seems like poor planning/poor management.

The location of the hotel is very convenient and in the heart of downtown San Antonio. The room was small, congested, dated, & maintenance could be improved. Bathroom is very small, tight small shower. Also, their AC system makes a lot of noise when it goes on and off. At times, it felt like someone was kicking the door when it would turn on.

first i spent 30 mins trying to check in...i was told something was wromg with my room and they needed to free up another...later i find out my room was given to celebrities for alamo city and i didnt even get an update....then an off duty cop threatened to kick me out of the hotel for asking a celebrity for a signature....even tho said celebrith was ok with it and i saw several women getting pictures with them and when i spoke to the manager she said the cops were off duty hired by comicon tonprotect the celebrities and i couldnt make a complaint to the city or thr hotel because a 3rd party hired them....this is your hotel...i payed for my room....so ur letting an off duty cop kick me out for asking someone famouse forna selfie....me but not the dozen women ive seen ask for them?? and incant complain to anyone because no one is responsible??

It suppose to be a fun and great weekend and this hotel ruined everything. My parents and in laws and us (me and my wife) first time travel together, we decided to stay in this hotels thought it will give us a great experience.

We made the reservation online like two weeks ago for 3 rooms, we arrived at the hotel about 3 pm, the room is not ready, so we walked around and come back at 6 pm, only 1 room is available, so we decided to walk around the beautiful city and come back after dinner, when we come back, the second one is ready and i asked for the last room

When will my 3rd room be ready?
"Sorry, we are Full".
I made the reservation online two weeks ago: 3 rooms for 6 people.
"Yes you did, but we are Full".
Just add two extra beds to the rooms.
"For the fire hazard reason we can't add any bed to the room"
......

Great service. My first room wasn't up to par but they quickly got me a new room within minutes of check in. Close to the river walk so you can walk pretty much anywhere you need to go. Would give this more stars if I could!

Me and my wife had a terrible night's sleep at this hotel! We even told the front desk and they said sorry, "well thank you for staying with us." The bed was extremely uncomfortable and was V-shaped. All night it would cause us to roll to the middle of the bed and wake up hitting each other. Also had the loudest squeaky noise, so that everytime you moved the bed would rock and wake you up while waking my wife. Just terrible!

Let s talk about my time at the Sheraton Gunter. Upon entering the lobby I was blown away by its charm and beauty. You can tell it s an older hotel by all the character but it still has an updated/modern feel to it. Check was a breeze. After checking in my three boys and I (ages 5, 3, and 1) went up to the room while my husband parked the truck. (It was late and they were tired.) As soon as we got off the elevator the feel of the hotel completely changed! Although there had been updates to the floor as well it felt really spooky and eerie. My middle son, who was so excited in the lobby and the elevator looked terrified so I know it wasn t just me who felt the creepiness if the upper floor. (This feeling went away upon entering the room or else we wouldn t have stayed there.) The Room: It was ok. The pull out sofa was disgusting. I wouldn t let anyone even sit on it. The curtains had white and brown stains on them. I didn t want to touch them either. We stayed two nights. One bed was made when we got back from seaworld in the second night and the other was not. There were two of my boy s shirt son the bed so I m not sure if Themis is why they didn t make the bed. Alrhough they made the bed they didn t change the sheets on that one bed.

After checking out of the hotel I told my husband the upper floor of the hotel felt weird and he told me why. He said that when he got on the elevator the first night by himself, there was a couple who had just come from the sixth floor. And they said it was so creepy. He asked why and they said it s a haunted hotel, they didn t tell you that when you checked in? They went further to tell him that a woman was murdered in the sixth floor prior to Sheraton buying the hotel and completing the renovations but her body was never found. After doing research it s absolutely true and no one told me. I would ve never stayed had I known the history behind the hotel.

Good accommodation to stay. Although rooms were a bit dated. Has free WiFi for all guests. It very near to San Antonio River Walk, has its own parking facility with great scenery of downtown San Antonio to view. I would recommend it purely due to its location however if you're looking for prime comfort, this hotel may not be for you.

Went into the little bar at the base of the Gunter Hotel before and after the Four Tops Temptations Show at the Majestic. I was joined by The Four Tops ,two of them, after their performance ,to sing and have fun with several other fans.

The Hotel and staff are first class all the way. My room was clean furnished with new furniture and a delite to stay in . My only concern is their was no fridge or microwave in the room and no Courtesy coffee offered in the lobby area.

Only place I will stay in San Antonio. Thanks to Rick (in particular) & Robert on reception for helping make our stay memorable. Food at MOH was great along with the staff there too. Bar 414 is a good traditional speak easy style bar that is perfect for one for the road or as a nightcap.

Well, after some bad reviews I was prepared for a haunted house! So far so good. We love it. Lobby is being refurbished but looked good either way. I liked the older brown vintage look but the new white is nice too. All room decor is nice. The staff is very nice. The carpet is worn but clean. You can tell that the hotel has been here 100 years, but its nice and kept up well. Give the bath PLENTY of time to get hot on the 10th floor! It will get hot but takes 5 minutes. I travel and have stayed in lots of hotels and this one is very nice and unlike other hotels is doesn't smell like its over 100 years old. The location is great. We will probably do the the $28 valet tonight. You can come and go all u want and its valet. Across the street (not 10 blocks! You can see parking from the lobby) is $16/ a day, you have to park on the roof/ 6th level in the sun, and you can't come and go. I would def recommend.

Nice clean room, historic atmosphere. Market on Houston restaurant on the main floor is temporarily closed, along with the shoe shine and Barber . Being a historic building there is a musty/mildew smell in the halls. Valet parking is the most expensive in the city at this location, currently $37 a night. The room with King bed had a large desk with small refrigerator. Room cleaning is only done once a week. Temperature control in the room was slow to achieve, another benefit of an old building. Hot showers can be had if you are willing to run the water and wait 3-5 minutes.

As soon as you walk in to the hotel reception, beautiful elegant design made me wonder about history of the hotel.
I think since 1999, it became a member of the Sheraton Hotel family and remains so today.
Original Gunter Hotel opened on 1909..... and since then, few people got involved in redesigning and purchasing of the hotel. But whoever purchased the hotel in last almost 180 years.... they carried on Jot Gunter s ( real estate developer) name.
Sure, Rooms and Hallways(love hallways!) are little outdated in today s standard but I personally enjoyed walking around the hotel. Also Location is really good. You re min walk from plenty of restaurants, cafe, riverwalk and some tourist sites.

Excellent customer service. The room was clean, polished and roomy, while still cozy. One night stay. Will certainly come back. Next time I Would love to stay in one of their historic rooms.

The hotel is a little on the antique side. The staff is very friendly and courteous. They are quick to get you whatever you need. It's also very laid-back. Close to the Riverwalk and right next to the Alamo.

The worst hotel I have ever been in my entire stay in San Antonio
Every time I come to San Antonio I stay in a very comfortable hotel, and the hotel will come to be so nice... except this time,
I donot know what happened this time when we choose this hotel in downtown it s really unbelievable I will not come back to this hotel and people who is reserving or looking to this hotel go some where else, you donot want to stay here, find you another one with less price and better rooms.

Basically the room is about 16x16 ft
And the bathroom is 4.5 x5.5 ft
This people is outrageous here at this hotel.
Will not come back for sure.

My first time in the Sheraton Gunter Hotel, was an awesome experience. It all started at the valet parking, with the parking manager greeting me, I quickly admired how polite and courteous he was. At 8am his vibrant attitude, gave my day a jumpstart in a postive way. My valet for the morning was Martin, very strong, he lifted my equipment cases with ease, and was mindful not to handle them shabbily, I appreciate that. The first people I've meet made me enjoy my day at the Sheraton. A great experience of service and wonderful facility. The icing on the cake was the catered lunch for our group, but came hot and nicely presented. I ordered the chicken pot pie, but was the best! Served on a white dish, an ample portion of deliciousness, it tasted freshly baked, and was totally satisfying. Definitely will order that again. Thank you Sheraton Gunter for a great experience, you service is hutting all the right things I look for in a five star hotel. I'll be back.

The staff here was friendly and I love how they dealt with an issue I saw. I notified the front desk of some suspicious individuals who walked up to the valet area and they immediately called security to check up on the situation. Though, you might be thinking that there should've been security there posted in the first place, but maybe they went on a break or something. We're only human. Also the staff here also helped recommend a bunch of restaurants as I am not familiar with this place, since I rarely come down to San Antonio. This place has great service and their lounge is open 24 hours! Definitely worth the stay!

For the age of the hotel, the rooms were not bad. Our first room was damp and had a leak coming from a light with the room's trash can catching the water. We called and explained the situation to the front desk and immediately got a great room. The in hotel bars and restaurant were great.

Rushed to San Antonio from corpus christi the night hurricane Harvey hit. Staff was really great and helped me unload and load as I had my hands full with my 3 year old, suitcase and two dogs. I never write reviews, but this hotel and their staff were very welcoming to my son and I. We slept peacefully considering the stress the storm brought. No complaints.

AMAZING hotel. Probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I didn't purchase a viewpoint room, but the view was gorgeous with multiple windows looking out on the city. It was nice they were dog friendly as well!

The hotel is nice but I can't stand places that don't have sound proofing... I get that it's a historic building and it is nice and cool and all those things, but I doubt want to hear everything in the hallway at night or people next door. And, 32 bucks for valet parking is a bit steep.

I really enjoyed staying at the Sheraton. Valet parking person was awesome. He heard of a possible hail storm coming so he assured me my car would be parked on first floor protected. Very courteous staff at the front desk and very knowledgeable. The hotel has a very nice historic but modern feel to it and it was cool to check out the small museum that they had downstairs. The room was very updated clean and comfortable and the bed was absolutely perfect. Easy access to the Riverwalk and other activities in downtown San Antonio. It was a very enjoyable stay and I will stay there again in the future.

An uninspiring and dated environment. The down-town location was uneasy, the walk across the street for a coffee or pharmacy was a guaranteed encounter with a person begging for money or high on drugs. The hotel is noisy, sirens and street noise outside the thin single skin window prevented sleeping. Waking to the noise of the dustmen is a grate line in a song by the band PULP but not an actual great start to the day.

Out of all the hotels we have stayed this has been one of the worst. I'll say that the staff is very helpful and courteous on all the problems we have experienced ...but these problems should not have occurred. In our room the pillows and bedding smelled so bad...like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. They did change them. The shower head was busted and didnt even stay up. No big deal they fixed it. But...we ordered room service... They over charged us about $20 and the manager explained we should not have been charged this amount. I tipped the girl cash and then realized after she took the cash they got an 18% grat added. She didnt tell me that. When I checked in...we paid for both nights plus a $50 damage deposit . The next morning we were charged our room again. Like I said... All staff members were diligent and nice while working to fix these problems. So if you want to stay somewhere that doesn't get cleaned well and overcharges you...this is the place.

Have stayed here quite a few times when visiting San Antonio and it's been pleasant everytime. Beds are nice and comfortable with arguably one of the better pillows I've used at hotels (not too thick and good balance between soft and firm). Location is within walking distance of the Riverwalk and other popular downtown hot spots. Hotel itself has character blending old architecture and new although some people might prefer keeping it old. Staff has always been nice and helpful as well.

The hotel was magnificent it was clean and it's right in the middle of everything if you stay at this hotel it's it's right there on the corner and it's walking distance from the Alamo and great nice restaurants and it's just minutes from the Riverwalk.
