My wife and I were fortunate enough to be here during the holidays, so we got to see the place all done up with the ice rink and giant Christmas tree. Really happy feel to this place, it was very easy to stop shopping for a second and just stop and take in the wonderful atmosphere. Probably the closest thing to Manhattan's union square that you'll find on the west coast. Absolutely lovely.

Its a beautiful place just to sit and relax. There are lot of benches for sitting. Enjoyed the cool breeze and just relaxing here. At night its even more beautiful with lights and surrounding lights. There are few food trucks and you can just sit and have food here.

What's not to say about Union Square. It is the center of down town San Francisco. Which happens to be one of the most spectacular shopping areas in the world. Everything and every store you could possibly think of and than some are located in this area. Not only shopping , also the best restaurants and hotels are here...

It's Union Square! It's busy, there's all sorts of things and people to look at, luxury suites competing with eateries, the cable cars clanking past, tour guides trying to get you on board the tour buses.

Then there's a group of artists exhibiting their work on a Sunday, quite happy to chat with you and share how they came to paint such-and-such.

A bit of that San Francisco magic.

While not quite contemporaneous with the Spanish American war, for which Admiral Dewey is recognized here, Emperor Norton still occasionally stands vigil, dispensing his philosophical treatises issued by imperial decree. 5 Stars.

It was awesome!! I love the area and the people are different, but nice. Lots of shops, places to eat, entertainment, and just about anything you want. Only a trolley ride to Fisherman's Warf and Pier 39.

Pleasant open space in the heart of the city, surrounded by skyscrapers housing popular stores. The square itself provides a bohemian breath of fresh air, where you can relax with a coffee and a snack and watch the city pass by.

There is this great hot dog stand outside of Macy's called Roy's hotdogs. Also if you go to the top of Nieman Marcus you can look down this huge Christmas tree. Only during the season though. Other than this Union Square doesn't have a whole lot to offer.

It is like many other public places in the city lacking in sanitation. I would recommend pressure washers to be regularly employed to clean All seating, resting, and walking areas. Noise ordinance should be considered in a way that allows for expression without disturbing someone else's need for tranquility. Maybe a zoning scheme.

I m not really sure what they re trying to achieve with Union Square, but whatever it is, they re not succeeding. Although a pleasant place to spend a few minutes, it s an awful mix of public/private space with nothing interesting to say about it. Too small, too boring, too confused.

My most favourite place in San Francisco. Surrounding area is full of great shopping, restaurants, etc. There is a Cheesecake Factory on top of Macy's. The giant Christmas tree at the centre of Union Square is awesome!

Avoid after dark! I walked through one evening around 9 and to my great alarm saw more RATS lurking in the bushes than I d ever seen in my life! I walked out very quickly and never entered it again after dark. To call it unnerving doesn t even begin to describe what it was like

Parked here to walk to Chinatown. SF is a wonderful city & I can't wait to return. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because I witnessed a person openly using their drugs (looked like crack/meth) in the middle of Union Square.

Not as great as it once was -- probably because of the internet. Gumps has withered away. Williams Sonoma was over-staffed with pushy salespeople trying to make you buy sonething instead of simply using them for a showroom for things to get cheaper on the internet.

Something is always going on in union Square. Never a dull moment. Union Square is the epicenter of street shopping in SFO along with Westfield Mall. Eat at Cheesecake Factory and watch the square from a rooftop vantage point. A San Francisco landmark!

Great place for upscale shopping as well as chain favorites such as Victoria's Secret and Macy's. Beautiful hotels near bye. Wonderful seasonal evens in the square such as ice skating in the winter. The Tenderloin district is just a block or two away, beware of walking through the tenderloin or getting a hotel in that area.

High-end shopping abound! Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry, Tiffany's, etc. Enjoy the experience and people watching! If your on a budget, don't despair, Macy's has an amazing selection of fairly priced goods (7 floors worth!).

It's very pretty especially around the holidays.. The stores have seen their better days.. Macy's doesn't have that high end feel it once did... Of course there is Neimans and Sax Fifth Avenue... Oh and Barney's is a gorgeous place to shop...

Union Square is a great place to visit all year around! Great stores and restaurants are near and is close to hotels like The Westin and theaters like Orpheam and Curran. That last time I went I was going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in the beginning of December and we met our friends there. It was fun seeing the HUGE Christmas tree in the center and the big reefs on every window of the Macy's across the street!
For Kids:
Kids would like coming to Union Square to see many things! Whenever I go there are always lots of fun things like bubbles, balloon guys, toys and more!
I totally recommend coming here for it's fun for the whole family!

It's the heart of SF, in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. I like taking tourist here because it's in the middle of shopping, but if you walk a few blocks your in Chinatown, and a few blocks more, you are at the Pier. It's the best during the holiday season with the tree, ice skating, and hot cocoa. Parking is expensive here and beware of all the homeless.

Nothing massively special about this square, other than the often notable harassment from the local homeless population. If you're visiting, head there during the middle of the day when the risk of being accosted by a drug addled person is smaller.

TRAFFIC is too crazy, and don't get me started on parking anywhere in Frisco. But if you get a chance go eat at the cheese factory at the top of the building under macy the view from up there is awesome.

Must to visit this place to see the city from center and must to enjoy the cable car ride.
Macy s biggest store is also there to attract the crowd for shopping.

One of the best place to stay and take photographs with lots of high buildings as a backdrop.

1-2 hours would be enough to spent there.
