Beautiful, quaint little place. Glad to still have the history here!
Quiet place to enjoy the peace of the woods, the birdsong, the funny chatter of green budgies, and the gentle slopes of the hills in south London. NICE PLACE
A spectacular location, presumably great views from the top, but it was closed, we'll be back. It's a big triangular tower, the rest of the castle is long gone
Stunning views from tower.
Friendly, informative staff.
Wonderful visit, thank you.
Worth the climb go the roof for the view. Cafe has improved since changing hands recently but still snacks rather than meals. Now dog friendly which is a bonus.
A lovely little piece of British history nestled in a small oasis of woodland with beautiful walks and expansive views of the South East of London.
Great views especially when the trees are not too leafy.
Seeing the castle transports you to a different time. A wonderful stop while visiting Oxleas Wood. The views of London around the corner are breathtaking.
Historic monument, cute cafe and fabulous views across South London to Kent. It's a lovely place for a long dog walk too.
Worth the visit, nice walking and beautiful view over London on top of the tower.
Nice little cafe icream selection was great and tasted fab
Wonderful view of a fascinating place with an interesting history
Fresh food beautiful location. Worth the walk through the woods which is also lovely
We got married here, it was magical. The staff were lovely and the folk at terrace catering did us proud. Perfect day in a lovely place.
Severndroog Castle is a folly situated in Oxleas Wood, on Shooter's Hill in south-east London in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It was designed by architect Richard Jupp, with the first stone laid on 2 April 1784.
All run by volunteers who are knowledgeable and friendly. The tour won't take you long but the grounds offer a lovely walk. They do do events during the year.
Very small castl-ette, ok cafe. Nice parkland walk.
a lovely Victorian folly with great views of London. The cafe on the ground floor also does excellent breakfast and coffees.
Not much to see or do at the castle but it's a nice walk and fun to be at a castle in London. Cafe baguette wasn't so nice though.
View over London was great. Cafe was lacking as many of the items on the menu were not available.
Very pleased to see this historic site restored despite our skinflint politicians well done everyone involved
very peaceful place to walk your dog and enjoy local history
Attended a wedding. Wedding and venue were fantastic. Food was especially good. Great view from the top.
It's a very very very small castle. It's okay to walk around to go to the woods.
Interesting but the fact there is an admission charge is not obvious till you reach the first floor having already donated into the donations box on the ground floor.
Always been my favourite place in london..its a perfect place to see whole london
Good food and service. Dogs allowed within fenced area.
This is a belvedere , a look-out tower type folly , built in 1764 to commemorate a local hero called Commodore William James . He won a naval victory for the East India Company in 1755 near Bombay , against a local ruler Tularji Angria , wrongly described as a pirate , who commanded several fortresses including the 'Golden Fortress' island of Suvarnadurg . There's a terrific view from the top of the tower , which is on top of Shooters Hill , a woodland SSSI in SE London . There's a tearoom in Severndroog , information panels about William James , the East India Company & local history . There's special events , on 10th May 15 there's VE Day ; Severndroog had radar & 2 lookouts 24/7 during WW2 to watch for the Luftwaffe .
Beautiful setting and the view from the top of the City is absolutely amazing.
Excellent to see the castle open again. Lovely views and to top it of a wonderful tea room serving delicious food and wonderful by friendly and polite staff.
Run by volunteers open friday saturday and sunday tea room. There alway check website as opencertain times of the year and the access to the fab view is not always open but we'll worth all the steps to the viewing platform. Lovelky setting in woods hidden gem
Fantastic setting for a lovely cafe. Great coffee and cake !
Severndroog Castle is a lovely surprise in the middle of shooters hill woods.
The Castle was renovated in 2014 and has a cafe. The surrounding gardens and views are very good.
Wonderful and delightful place in the woods. Great coffee snacks and cakes.
The smallest castle that I have ever seen! But adorable none the less and in the middle of some pretty magical woods! There is a cute cafe in the folly which I recommend and the perfect stop of for when completing the green chain walk!!
Beautiful castle, gorgeous grounds for walking and running!
Amazing views and great Tea shop, a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon
Worth a visit. Not actually a castle, more a tower with great views of London. At the entrance they do decent coffee and homemade cakes. Nearby lovely woods and gardens.
Outside looked beautiful
Such a shame it's not reopened.
Cafe and toilets open and lots of woodland to walk around
Amazing views of London and Kent, a "folly" built on the top of the Shooters Hill. Good walks in the woods, consider myself blessed living nearby. HILLY!
It is open in strange hours and on Saturdays only the small tea room at the bottom is open. Good ice-cream there though. Very good view from the top when it is clear.
Cafe is ok, service is not very good. Staff seemed disoriented.Took ages to get our coffee when there weren't very many people there. They gave away our coffee to another table and forgot us.
Castle view is nice but I'd skip the tea rooms.
Really lovely, spectacular views, lovely place to visit, great for kids, and wheelchair friendly
It's simple inside but with great surroundings and views, do not hesitate to visit if around
We came across this folly on a walk in the area. Recently restored and opened to the public in July 2014 (check opening times as not open every day) it is a magnificent castle built in the 1780s by a grieving widow as a memorial to her late husband. There is a small exhibition of historical interest and very knowledgeable guides who are all volunteers. The views from the top are spectacular and well worth the climb up the 86 step spiral staircase although on the day of our visit the visibility was poor after a day of almost relentless rain! There is a small teashop with outside seating areas. The tea and chocolate cake were very welcome and set us up for the last section of the day s walk.
Tall, mystical and legendary, stuff dragons are made of, slap on top of the hill in London
Great bit of history and well kept woods. Fun events and one of the best views across London, you can even see Windsor Castle
Such a fun iconic building. Even had an ice cream after a fab walk in the woods
So pleased this local historic monument has reopened.
Great childhood memories from visiting here.
Little cafe open at ground floor, and you can pay to see the views from the top, which is well worth it on a clear day
I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea here on Saturday with my family for my Gran's 90th birthday. There were a great choice of sandwiches which were delicious as were the cake's. I'll definitely be going back there soon. Everything about the afternoon was perfect, the setting, the food/drink and the service. 10/10
Great panoramic views (especially on a clear day), but otherwise not too much to do in this recently refurbished neo-gothic tower (not a real castle). However, if you live nearby it's worth a visit, even if only to have a cup of tea in the tea room downstairs and enjoy the views of London from upstairs.
Nice walk around the severndroog castle. It isn't big. There is a small cafe downstairs to stop for a cuppa.
