Very poor customer service from the front desk staff. Room and morning waiting staff made up for this but not worth the cost.

This room had been booked quite a while ago for a wedding event we (and several others) were attending. When the booking was orginally made we were advised that we could not pay in advance but would have to pay on check out.

We called to confirm booking earlier this week and were informed that my card detail were held for a room not under my name and completely the wrong room type. This booking was amended to the correct booking details and room type.

On arrival staff were very rude when we asked if we could check in early or if there might have been somewhere to leave our bags as we were attending a wedding and didn't want to leave them in the car.

After the wedding finished and we came to check in (at 23:30) there was a large queue which was not being managed sufficiently. Although there were 2 members of staff on the front desk only one appeared to be checking guests in while the other watched. Due to the original mistake with the rooms we were informed that there were no card details on the booking and we would need to make a payment immediately before we would be given our keys.

Other guests (who were friends of ours and had also had issues with their booking and card details being under the wrong name and room type) checked in shortly after and were told that they could not pay till the morning.

3 stars awarded as the room was clean with a large fan to help cool it and breakfast was delicious. Hot, well stocked and regularly checked on by morning waiting staff.

After a 250 mile drive I was disappointed that no food was available at 9.30pm - the restaurant was shut and the bar menu wasn't on. The reception staff said I could order a sandwich but there was nothing else available. Ordered a beer but the bar staff wouldn't take an order for a sandwich. Not sure why, as there were four staff behind the bar and I was the only customer ! They said I had ring for room service (couldn't ring from the bar) so I had to leave the bar to go to reception to ring. Then had to persuade room service to deliver to the bar and not to my room. To top it off, one of the 4 bar staff then brought me the sandwich and the bill. I think the manager is called "Basil" !!

Good place to stay. Clean, comfortable (though the bed springs were starting to make their presence felt and the carpet needed replacing) with desk to work at and plenty of sockets. They've managed to avoid the draughts often ubiquitous with such huge old buildings too.
There's a Wetherspoons less than 10 minutes walk away. Perfect.
They've got renovation work taking place at the moment so their room rates are extremely good, with breakfast included and free parking as standard.

Liked: the breakfast, staff, grounds, gym, pool.

Disliked: very loud late evening music (on weeknight) from birthday event, room much smaller than photos, doors slamming late every night (fit anti-slam mechanisms to them).

Likely would not stay again or recommend.

One star only, the reception staff are unfriendly and dismissive.
No one knows anything, it's like faulty towers!
I was told twice someone would call me back re my enquiry to a forthcoming event ... no call back!
Not sure if any customer service training is given - I suspect NOT...

Slow reception experience but friendly staff. Quite a few steps to the room but warm, clean bright and cosy. Large (expensive) bar area. Free wifi. Room service expensive. 1 minus star for the lack of security, the hotel has so many emergency exits left open on a night with no alarms its not great. No mobile signal on the ground floor if your on 3. Hot room need air con. A good selection of nearby local shops and open space to walk. Bottom of hotel path and turn right.

Staff unhelpful (popped in to ask about wedding venue hire). The appearance of the hotel has been altered but not for the better, the concrete canopy/awning over the entrance is disgusting and not in-keeping with the period of the hotel itself. Inside, it feels run down and untidy. The view out the back of the hotel over the golf course is nice, however I think that is the only redeeming feature at the moment. The whole place feels like it needs renovating, but done properly to keep the period feel of the original hotel.

Not impressed.put in a lower ground room. The carpet in our room was rucked up in the middle of the room, could be a hazard for a disabled person. All the windows were heavily rusted on the inside, parts of the skirting boards were rotted away.Shame because the setting of the place is amazing.

The venue is superb, as is the view, the lawn and the interior design. We were warmly welcomed at the reception. That's for the positive side. Unfortunately there are many negative points. On both days they were totally overwhelmed with the number of people who wanted to have breakfast. So there were a lot of uncleaned tables and not enough cuttlery and glasses. The service was super slow and the employees seemed to be very not in the mood to do their job. On the first day we postponed housekeeping with the result that they never showed up again on this day. As we wanted to go to the driving range there were no balls and they had to collect them first which took them an hour at least. To sum up: the location is great but if you're looking for a worthy 4 star hotel don't take this one.

Couldn't tell us if we could early check in over the phone so had to visit to be told we couldn't. Returned @ 2230 to check in with 3 kids after a wedding and the receptionist sent us completely the wrong way round the hotel to get to the room. No towels, travel cot or tea and coffee when we finally got there. Breakfast was travelodge standard at best

Decor is quite tired, food very average, service a bit slow. Feels like people are trying to do a good job but there aren't enough of them do it's tough. The hotel is in a beautiful old building, set in stunning grounds so has the potential to be great, but it's not quite there at the moment.

Had a very nice stay here recently. Amazingly quiet considering its proximity to London, feels very much like a country hotel. Absolutely no traffic noise which I was most pleased about! Will bring our swimming gear next time - the pool & health facilities looked great, was such a shame we couldn't use them.

This hotel must have been a great place to be some 50 years ago. Today, however, the buildings and rooms are in dire need of major renovation. Bathroom, windows, carpet, electrical, etc. - Everything is seriously outdated and worn out. Many emergency exit paths are unsafe and not marked clearly. Mold and water damage is visible everywhere.

Nice time at the hotel, however dinner at the restaurant was a disappointment. Requested a non-dairy main course for my wife and the kitchen managed to get it wrong by using butter in the dish. Thankfully we were able to spot it before my wife ate it.

Saturday 7th at the Selsdon Park Hotel - my golden jubilee event. What an AWESOME DAY!!!!!!!

It was indeed a memorable day. A big thanks to the hotel for the excellent service on the day. The waiters were so supportive, well mannered and faultless. The Banqueting Manager for the day, Jan Sonneveld was the best ensuring everything went perfect and of course kudos to the Chef. We all really enjoyed the food. A huge thanks and appreciation to Emma Ellis Sales and Marketing Executive for receiving us so well and being consistent throughout. These are wonderful faces for the hotel. Aaah and the room was also very comfortable. Slept like a baby. I would definitely recommend the Hotel

Lovely looking hotel. We attended a wedding reception which was well organised by the staff, toastmaster was brilliant, food good. Breakfast was great - loads of choice. Totally let down by the room - good size but in poor condition, pealing paint, mould on walls. Fine for the night and we got it for a good price as paid so far in advance but I wouldn't of been happy if I'd of paid the full rate!

Expensive for small, dirty rooms. When I arrived I was told there might not be any rooms for me, although shortly after a room was found. Not sure why they bothered to tell me. Either way the room was a tiny single bed, the walls very narrow so could hear everything from people walking past in the night and people getting up early for work. The only good part of this was the fast check out, couldn't wait to leave. such a shame as the hotel looks really impressive from outside. Needs major refurbishment. Shower window had mould, and soup scum was present around the bath.

Frankly the most boneheaded management of any hote...

Frankly the most boneheaded management of any hotel I have ever known. A beautiful but crumbling estate that the DeVere group has sunk a few millions into trying to renovate, yet they completely undermine their efforts with the most ridiculous policies and decisions that make it almost impossible to stay here. From the stupidest things like no hair conditioner, only one bath towel per room, powdered scrambled eggs and a simple bottled water being priced at 2.50 at the bar, to bigger issues like no air conditioning or soundproofing. While I realize the soundproofing is tricky in a building of this age and genre, one would assume that management would work within their means, and perhaps place a midnight limit on parties and dance music on the back terrace, so as to allow other guests to get a decent night s sleep. Or perhaps even give other guests a room at the other end of the building instead of right above said party. This is not the first time we ve had to move in the middle of the night because of noise concerns here and it is infuriating that the hotel is apparently so desperate for business that they allow a corporate party to go on past 2am on a weeknight with no regard for their other guests. Wake up DeVere. You don t deserve to be in business.

Lovely to look at and around most staff are friendly and engage with you.
Food is over priced and not always served as expected, there were no checks on 4 evening meals with how the food was and even mustard wasn't available.

That aside room was comfy and spacious, there were limited TV channels but who watches TV in a hotel?

Lovley location, with nice big rooms amazing value for money, pool is always nice and calm with a steam room and sauna to go with it oh I almost forgot about the jacuzzi which I spent most of my day in. I was there with work and had to accommodate a Luton van and a smaller van which the car park can easily fit in as its huge, the area is brilliant there's a sainburys next door and a few shops pubs and takeaways down the road in Selsdon, the only thing I could really pick fault at is the fact of the TV only having 6 basic channels which I think is me being picky, staff exceptional always wanting to help.
And its only an hours drive from central London soon brilliant place to stay defiantly be going back!

Proper s***hole. It's a dated 3* hotel. Look at my pic of the room I had. Seriously a double room that was more like a rathole, no air con, dated, broken tiles in the bathroom and wallpaper that is falling apart. You better off staying at a hostel. Breakfast is awful. Pretty much everything was disappointing.
