Overall, very beautiful scenery. Waters a bit choppy in January from the cooler season causing sea weed to wash up. Service was overall great. Most employees do a good job getting to know you and making you feel welcomed. A couple employee issues were eventually resolved. Airplane noise was a bit obnoxious, but others seemed to tune it out. Just be aware you WILL hear it. For our first all inclusive seemed good.

Disappointed at Sandals.

Disappointed at Sandals.

Summary: We did not feel that we got our money's worth at Sandal's Montego Bay. The service and staff were sub-par (with exceptions) and the food was average at best. Facilities were nice, clean and well maintained.

Examples:

1. Upon arrival at the resort, it took 2 hours for our bags to make it to our room. We were dressed for travel so we couldn't go out to the beach or change for dinner. After 3 phone calls to the front desk, the Head Concierge finally had to physically locate our bags and have them delivered. This is basic service...not sure why they screwed it up

2. When we did make it to the beach that evening we were informed by the beach staff that there were no more beach towels. So after flying 1500 miles and spending $1200/day to visit a beach resort, the staff told us that there were no towels.

3. After booking an ocean view room, we were given a room with a view of the volleyball court and the back of the kitchen. Had to spend an hour changing rooms.

4. All food facilities require reservations except the beach grill and cafeteria. When we called to ask, we were told by the concierge that there were no tables available at ANY of the restaurants for the duration of our 4 day stay. UNACCEPTABLE! I had to meet with the Resort Director to straighten this out. Yet another hour doing administrative stuff instead of relaxing

5. The Stewfish Cafe out on the beach is a seafood themed place. Our waiter forgot our drink order and we had to remind him. After waiting 1.5 hours for our meal to be delivered, we left and went back to our room and ordered room service.

6. We reserved a private beach cabana with our own "highly trained' Butler on day one. Upon arrival in the morning we had to call her repeatedly to come take our orders for food and beverages. Our beach breakfast took over an hour to arrive and when it did, the food was cold. Drink service was even slower. I wound up just walking up to the beach bar to get drinks and one time, discovered our "highly trained" butler sitting down, taking a break and texting. Again, I approached the Resort Director and received a refund.

7. Lobby bar service was exceptional. The bartenders are on their game and seem genuinely happy to help you.

8. Room service was solid and dependable.

9. The beach is nice. If you don't pay for beach butler service you'll often find that by 9am all the beach chairs with any kind of shade are reserved by the butlers for their clients. So you'll wind up in the sun 6 rows back from the water.

10. The Resort Director was proactive in solving our issues but we felt like there was a lack of management and ownership below her level. Many employees were unfriendly, sullen and seemed to resent our requests for service that we had paid for. Some of the staff were outstanding but the service was inconsistent so be prepared to be frustrated and disappointed by the quality of the staff.

Overall: You can get a better experience for your money elsewhere. I'm glad we weren't on a special occasion like a honeymoon or anniversary. Sandals Corporate needs to re-train the staff at this resort and take a hard look at their value model.

Booked with a Sandals employee and specifically asked for a relaxing location for our 7 day vacation. We were lied to and found out that the AIRPORT IS ACROSS THE STREET after they told us it was 30 minutes away. You get to hear every plane all throughout the day. Tried several times to switch hotels so I could get some sleep but they didn't call back to help once. If you want to go to a restaurant at a different resort don't count on them allowing you to go since only 2 couples are allowed per day. Booked a fishing trip and was told they didn't have enough people to go out but the next day the boat was full when they came in at noon. Called and e-mailed after the vacation and got ignored. Weeks later Carl Otto Beviere the GM finally got back to me with an offer of some lowsy points toward our next vacation with Sandals.

Montego Bay Sandals .. what a gorgeous place. Sunshine every day, beautiful, clear blue water, stunning flowers and trees, great food. BUT.. the very best thing about Jamaica is the people. Loving, peaceful, joyful, beautiful people who are truly happy that you chose to visit their island home. We'll be back --again.

LOVE this resort. We chose NOT to stay here because my husband hates airplane noises, t the resort we stayed at (Sandals Royal Caribbean) was having some construction and the noise was terrible and all day, so we ended up spending most of our time at Sandals Montego Bay. Loved it!!

We have traveled extensively and NEVER have I experienced service like this, not to mention the food is cruise ship quality. Actually, it s like being on a carnival cruise... on land... with worse service, and if you can imagine... worse food. I can speak highly of the butler service however. We had Toni and Rolando, both were excellent. As part of the butler service, your butler reserved chairs at the beach for you. We had the same chairs all week. On day 6, I pulled our chairs slightly forward to get some sun instead of getting 2 additional chairs, with limited chairs, I thought that was rude. Leaving our cooler right at the edge. We had been doing this all week. An African American gentleman pulled chairs under. I turned around, and told him I planned to go back under, I just wanted a little sun. He said no, I m not moving. To avoid conformation, we got a manager. We clearly are the minority in this situation. We were told we would be moved to a different location and he could keep umbrella. The African American gentlemen then walks back and forth to bar by us smiling at us, which i perceived as intimidating. Do not expect support from management, you won t get it. Should you be walking on the right side of the sidewalk and come in contact weigh personnel, expect a gasp of disgust from staff. Should you order a drink at the beach, expect to not get it, and should you say to wait staff I no longer need that drink, I m here now ordering at bar... expect them to say, did you have a camera and take a picture... it wasn t me. They ask you preferences for liquor in your room prior to arrival, as it s an all inclusive. Expect it to be mostly water, as all the liquor is. Do not expect to be able to watch cable here, as it s not working most of the time. We both lost 10 pounds while here which speaks to the quality of the food, it s absolutely AWFUL. we were so excited about the smoked salmon for breakfast, went one hour into breakfast, and guess what... we are out of that? Also the activities they claim to have, sailing, paddle boards, etc.... were not there most days..I can t speak for other Sandals resorts, as this our first...and LAST trip... but do not waste your money... go somewhere else. I knew coming in it was near the airport... but you are literally on the runway..Complete rip off.

Wow! Sandals Montego Bay provided such an amazing stay even during this COVID pandemic. I really think it's the Jamaican people who really make this place magical. From the very first impression, being greeted by name at the entrance with "I've been waiting for you!" to our last moments on our ride to the airport listening to the driver share special details about the island...We never wanted to leave :) We had stayed at Sandals Montego Bay in July of 2008 for our honeymoon and it took us over 12 years to make it back - we are so thankful that we did! So many updates but still the same wonderful place we remembered. Some basic categories: Cleanliness A+++ hand sanitizer at every turn, asking guests clean their hands before entering any bar or restaurant, rooms and ground impeccably clean and sanitized - bravo! Food A+++mazing! SOY! Butches! Honestly every bite of everything we ate at the resort was delicious and such a treat. Drinks A+++ Of course so delicious and so many things to choose from! Friendliness A++++ I've already said that the people of Jamaica are the reason we are dreaming of coming back again. Their kindness and care is unmatched and their culture of hospitality is truly inspirational. Sandals is the best of the best. Please visit and let their love and positivity make your heart happy! :)

It was absolutely beautiful and the service was unmatched. We stayed in a butler suite which was beyond worth it. Everyone is in a good mood and having a good day. The weather was bright and sunny even though the weather said it would rain 4 out of the 5 days we were there. We ate at a different restaurant each night (only 2 required a reservation). It being all inclusive is also amazing. Because you don't have to worry about tips or paying for anything, the bartenders take care of you each and every time. Our Butler reserved a spot on the beach each day right outside of our suite with a cooler of beer and water. She called us to see if she could bring us breakfast in the morning and even brought us lunch on the beach. Best money I've spent in a while.

We just got homeroom the beautiful Montego Bay. We booked the Beachfront Swim-up Millionaire One Bedroom Butler Suite w/ Patio Tranquility Soaking Tub room 1816. Our two butlers were Wilson and Grandville. Our friends in room 1812 had Steven and Marvin. From the time we arrived at the airport it was pretty smooth sailing. Highly suggest you do club mobay, it helps you get through customs and the health screening fast and efficiently. We were picked up by the a wonderful chaffer in a BMW who escorted us to the resort which is so close to the airport.
Our butlers were good, our friends butlers were good. They worked together to ensure we were taken care of properly. The butler phones don't work well at all. Most of the time the butlers found us. They had already beach chairs ready, drinks ready on the daily. They ensured our reservations at the dining areas were good at night. Everyone for the most part was happy to be there, and happy to serve you. Some of our favorites that went above and beyond was Horace from the English pub. My husband really enjoyed the pub food and you did not need a reservation. He is one of the managers and truly went above and beyond to serve us. Roberto at Soy was again amazing. We ate here twice and he was very nice. Our last night we were hosted by Frank at bayside the French restaurant and he was so nice. We did go into the gift shop a few times, and Navi was very sweet. Kemisha and Imoni at Toyoko jacks were so sweet and made that experience so fun. This was one of my very fun dining experiences.
We also did a candle light dinner one night and wow it was breathtaking. Our server was amazing. I forgot her name but she drives 2 hours just to come to work to do candle light service. She went above and beyond for our dinner. Kevin in photography does an exceptional job to capture the moments. Some of the people in entertainment really stand out... chocolate thunder ha ha ha, Adam , Melissa, and Lisa. They know how to get the crowd going. Our favorite bartender by FAR is Cerresa she is incredible and so nice, friendly and works so hard to go above and beyond for her guest. Some other bartenders include Oshaine, Cherrise.
We used the gym every day, we used to the steam room every day. We did have a couples massage and enjoyed the Redline spa. We did go kayaking, we did go sailing. DO not book the deep sea fishing, my husband and our friends had the worst experience. Only place with poor service and food was morning buffet.

Sandals montego bay has a better view of the water. The scene is more for being outside which is where you should be. I just thought that being based solely around the beachfront kind of drew back from the rest. Just my opinion. I mean while walking on the resort and getting to outside all attention was on like a block of beach, literally a block.

Our 4th visit to Jamaica, but first time at Sandals, (we formerly stayed at Beaches with the kiddos), and truly there was nothing we would have changed. Service was unmatched and the food top notch. The bartenders were so fun and engaging. We enjoyed the lovely grounds--Everything was so beautiful and colorful. Can't wait to return!

Not the best Sandals but for us it was a quick direct flight and a short drive once you get there. They show restaurants on their site that aren't there yet, they are being added which is BS, felt duped. The pool is kind of whack, swim up bar pool also whack. Beach was great and in general the food was good plus you get the neighboring sandals to choose from. The newer sandals are a better value, Grenada, Barbados

I came here extremely excited, I paid top dollar and was fine with it because of what was advertised. Before continuing to read this post if you're not able to or can't afford to pay for Butler service do not bother booking here. Anyone without Butler service is essentially a 2nd class guest. overall my room was very average and a bit dated. I think a 3 star is more than fair especially since I've been to many resorts and never felt more swindled. Here is my pro and cons list:
Pro:
1.Clean
2. Photo shoot is very reasonably priced
3. Many water activities (including scuba) to choose from
4. Resort was very pretty
5. Several pool options
6. Several beach sections

Cons:
1. Service is mediocre at best. The staff has no issues saying no, walking away, or arguing with you. Finding someone to get you a drink on the beach is very challenging. They seem extremely understaffed.
2. Not everyone can make a reservation at their restaurants and even IF you do they don't communicate it to the restaurant or the restaurant could be closed. We had a reservation for the sushi restaurant and turns out the restaurant wasn't even open that day, no one bothered informing us. Even when we finally got a reservation to a restaurant that was open it was at 9pm which is an hour before they close, when we showed up at 9:07 the host said he cancelled the reservation. Due to the timing some of the dishes were no longer an option.
3. The water activities are on a ridiculous schedule. You can only be given lessons once a day if you can't make it you have to wait for the next day. Their snorkeling trips are 30 mins long and about 50-60 feet from the hotel.
4. The quality of food is about as good as a cruise except you paid way more.
5. The airport is right by the property so you can hear every single plane take off. That by itself should make it impossible for them to be 5 stars.
6. While they have several pool options, only one is heated. Also, it's hard to differentiate between the private pools from the public pools.
7. They use all inclusive very very loosely at Sandals. You have to pay for canabans (approx $200), wine bottles at dinner all came at a separate price ($25-$60/bottle), etc.
8. The check-in process took forever (mind you I checked in online 2 days before arriving). We were herded like cattle from the moment we got through customs. We waited in the sandals reception area and given no information on when we will be taken to the hotel. Finally when it was our turn we were taken to a bus and waited again for the rest of the group. Then when we arrived we all waited again for our names to be called and herded to reception where we you guessed it we waited to be told what room we will be in. We were also told we could make reservations for the restaurants at reception then reception said to call.
9. They only have 1 option for dessert a Parisian cafe with terrible ice cream and decent desserts (the humming bird cake is delicious though).

Lovely resort, but a bit noisy from the airport (you do get used to it), and the pools aren't great. Overall, not as nice as other Sandals I've visited. Stewfish was actually not very good here, but the same restaurant in the Bahamas was amazing. Breakfast options were just okay. Gorgeous room and nice views. Nice beach for lounging and swimming. Quick trip to the airport.

The resort was very beautiful, clean and well main...

The resort was very beautiful, clean and well maintained. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful. Sometimes they made it overly difficult to find privacy though, being as there seemed to be more employees than actual guests.
The beach is small- very small and crowded.

Between the construction and constant groundskeeping being conducted it was nearly impossible to fully relax. The room was much smaller than it appeared to be in the pictures. The bed was very comfortable but you hear constant activity throughout the entire night. Mostly the sound of the carts being wheeled up and down the tiled floor leading to the rooms, and this was at all hours. Housekeeping was well performed but highly untimely. On several occasions we would leave for the day early in the morning, only to return late in the afternoon, and find the room had still yet to be tended to. It even appeared that the housekeeping employees had only cleaned a few rooms in the span of several hours and spent the majority of their time congregating amongst themselves and other employees.

The all inclusive food and drinks was one of the biggest deciding factors for us to choose Sandals. The drinks were clearly watered down and far from delectable. Red Stripe was the only apparent beer available and its stale stench lingered yards from the bar as you approached. The food overall was barely decent. Be careful when you bite into any sort of chicken as tiny bones are nestled all throughout. Pizza was good.

The security is essentially nonexistent. Why these employees are even on their payroll baffles me. Anyone could easily gain access to the grounds from the adjacent slums by swimming or rowing up to the 4ft retaining wall.

Overall the trip was a new and good experience for us but I would not recommend this Sandals. We have not stayed at their other resorts so I cannot speak to them. You are definitely paying for the name and not the experience in Montego Bay. Pay no mind to the "no tipping" policy because the only way to get decent service is to casually slip the employees $. Even then they expect more and your money wears thin.

Great getaway with adults! We went with our friends and enjoyed it. Clean rooms with balcony overlooking the water. Multiple food locations but they are timed and some require reservations. There is usually a band playing in the evening and multiple bars to get drinks at. They stock the fridge in the rooms multiple times daily. The bath on the porch is amazing with curtains. In the evenings there is a dress code so be aware when packing. They have a shuttle that takes you to other Sandals resorts for a change of scenery. We had bad weather while we were there which caused them to cancel a lot of the water sports but they made up for it with entertainment. Be sure to lock your valuables up in the safe provided because staff has access to your room a lot in an effort to make your stay enjoyable!

My wife and I decided to take a "real" vacation for our honeymoon. After some indecision on a destination, we began researching sandals several locations. We decided on the Montego Bay resort.
From the moment we got to the welcoming lounge @ sangster airport we were pleasantly greeted by several employees who got us and our bags where they needed to be. It was a real comfort for us as this was both of our first trips out of the country. Drinks in the lounge were served as soon as we stepped through the doors. Very short wait until our luggage was loaded onto the shuttle. 10-15 minutes from time of arrival at the lounge before we were on the shuttle heading to the resort.
Once there, again, we were immediately greeted by several employees who were all more than happy to help with our bags. All made us feel very welcome.
Marvin and Kimberly, in the club concierge office, were very helpful all week in helping us make reservations for onsite activities, as well as, offering suggestions on local shopping, excursions, etc... Special thank you to both!!
Our room, club level walkout suite in the almond building, was exactly as described. Service was by daily to ensure room was tidy and fridge was fully stocked.
The arrangements of our stay could not have been executed more perfectly! Every interaction we had with all staff was very courteous and friendly. A very special thanks to Andrew at the skydome bar. Very fun! Made sure to take care of all requests we had. He seemed determined to make sure anyone that sat down was taken care of promptly and with personal service. Within several visits to the bar, he knew me by name. Very impressive!! Bartenders are a huge ambassador for a business and Andrew nailed it!
Another special thank you to Will Wisdom. What an unbelievably impressive guy! As one of the photographers, he creates a lot of memories for people to take home with them. We had several sittings with him and he definitely brought the best out of our photos. The level of personal service provided by will should be the stuff that others learn from. Friendly, knowledgable, and very personal. Can't say enough good things about him.
The natural beauty of the resort is easy for sandals to pull off. It was the above mentioned names, along with, every other staff member that made our experience the best time we've ever spent together!
We will absolutely continue to stay at sandals resorts and have already recommended Montego Bay to dozens of our friends. We can't get back soon enough!!
For anyone considering the experience, ignore any negative review posted!! Anyone who is unable to have an amazing time at this resort probably hasn't had an amazing time anywhere...
Thanks again for all the efforts from everyone! You've gained a lifetime of business from my family!!

The Montego Bay resort is definitely the place to go to party.

We only visited once but I had a great time. It was well maintained and everything looked new. We didn't know our way around so we asked a chef for directions to the Jamaican food. He insisted on walking us all the way to the restaurant even though it was out of his way. I told him it was not necessary but he said it was the Jamaican way. He brought us down to the restaurant, got us set up with a server, and stuck around to make sure we had everything we needed, even seconds. I really wish I could remember his name because he deserves to be recognized for his amazing service.

Just a couple FYIs. For those with allergies,
They have a lot of cats and bees.

They have a pastry and ice cream parlor. Yum.

They have a longer beach than Sandals RC. More opportunities to find a spot to yourself.

It is also right behind the airport so it is very loud.

I absolutely love Sandals! They have never disappointed us. This was our 3rd vacation with them in 3 years. Montego Bay was great. Beautiful rooms, Beautiful View, Tasty Meals, Great Service even through all the plandemic adjustments that had to be made, they offered stellar service with a tremendously positive attitude.

Montego Bay is the original Sandals resort and wit...

Montego Bay is the original Sandals resort and with that it is very spread out along the beach it resides on. The resort is maybe 5 minutes from the airport terminal and the only thing between the coast and the airport is the resort. There is a bit of construction going on currently to expand a few more rooms and some of the support areas at the entry.
The food and drinks here never leave you asking for anything other than a take home box. The bars are never too crowded and are fairly fast to serve. The drinks are never watered down, so learn to pace, and the drinks are never small. There is no limit to the food or drink you can order almost any hour of the day. If you are planning your trip here start trying to book some of your meals that require reservations at least 2 or 3 days before arriving.
The aquatics are fairly diverse and offer a fairly wide time frame to use them. They do have scuba diving, ensure you have a medical release from your home doctor to dive, otherwise be ready to drop 120 dollars to have the resort Dr. Give you a waver.
The rooms are what the brochure and website show and then some, even the mini bar in the room has full bottles of black label jonny walker, local reserve select Rum, absolute vodka, and Gin. Those are expected to be consumed before you leave the resort and can be refilled daily. You are also welcome to take the bottles out to the beach and have a personal party.
Overall this is a fantastic place to be for any length of time. I did prefer the royal bahimian in Nassau Bahamas.

Our stay was absolutely amazing (later on the 4 stars). This was our 1st Butler experience and Cassie & Mykal were Phenomenal! Cassie took such great care of us & really spoiled us. She kept surprising us with goodies & snacks throughout each day. She prepared us some wings with a sauce I wish I could buy. She was so genuinely sweet & caring. She and Mykal helped me surprise my husband with a room upgrade (split stay) & private birthday dinner. They celebrated his birthday with us setting up all sorts of things (even the bartenders treated him up for his birthday). We made last minute dinner requests & Mykal was right on it. His recommendations were spot on. They are a wonderful duo & the reason why we can Never stay at another Sandals without one!

So, why 4 Stars?

1. As previously mentioned, we had a split stay & our 1st room wasn't so great. It was pretty dated (Oversized Beachfront Villa). The shower handle was broken, causing the water to not get hot. Then, the toilet roll holder fell off when I reached for tissue paper. We had the shower fixed but didn't mentioned the tissue holder (since I knew we were moving soon).

2. At Butch's, our experience was so poor that we just walked out before dessert. Our waitress was great & was the best part of our experience. My Lobster Tail was overcooked (not good at all). I didn't bother to send it back because someone from the kitchen brought out our food & instead of walking my husband's food to him, he just handed it to me to pass it over. I found that very rude, especially when I didn't see him do it at any other table. Also, I would've expected him to notice that the lobster tail was overcooked since he carried the plates over for us to check the steak temps. Just overall disappointing, especially since everybody knows how badly you wait to get your turn at Butch's during your stay.

Still overall awesome & I can't wait to return when the excursions are able to safely reopen.

Overall we had an amazing stay at the Sandals Montego Bay resort. The resort itself was modern and very well kept, clean and everything was conveniently located so you never had to go too far to get to anything. The staff were all very friendly. We stayed in one of the oceanfront rooms and were able to walk right outside to the ocean and had an amazing view !! The food at the restaurants was at about an 8/10 , there were a couple restaurants that were better than others but there s a great variety to choose from. This resort doesn t have much of a nightlife , which is what we wanted - this was more of a relaxation vacation for us. But if you re looking for turn- up this probably wouldn t be the resort to choose. The music selection they played at the bars/restaurants was some country, 80s ....not a very diverse selection of music. No r and b or hip hop, barely top 40, and surprisingly not even reggae. Overall we had a great time and would definitely return.

Their Asian restaurant is fantastic. Great food and great drinks. The bar in the main area was probably the worse experience we had. We waited a long time to be acknowledged for drinks and took them a while to make them. When we went the hammock bar was closed, which was a bummer. Transportation was scary as sh!t. We hopped on a bus that summers suppose to take us back to the Royal Caribbean resort but took us to the hole in the wall Sandals Inn. The driver ended up driving us back to Montego Bay Sandals where we had to wait an hour for a bus.

We had a very good time at Sandals Montego Bay. Our butler service was 5 star worthy. The night time activities are limited after 9, and two of the restaurants require reservations. They offer multiple restaurants with different types if food. The views were great and both bars located on the beach were very fun. I was disappointed with the lack of local rum being available daily from a majority of the bars. The biggest disappointment from our stay; the resort failed to provide my wife and I notification of their swim up bar and piano bar being under renovation prior to our arrival. It was very disappointing because we chose this resort over others based upon those two venues, which were closed when we arrived. I think we will give Sandals another try in the future, but we will look to go to another location.

Pre booked a year in advance. First off we booked an offsite excursion which included all day horse back riding in the mountains and the beach. Upon arrival there was no mention of the excursion we booked. After asking about it, staff was dumbfounded and stated they dont do the horses on Sundays. Staff tried to accommodate the issue by shoveling numerous other excursions down our throats which were all more expensive than the one we booked. We booked another excursion then later found out it was also a no go on Sundays. Other issue was the lack luster of a bed. Felt like we were sleeping on the ground.

Other than that the resort was beautiful and the best thing of all was no kids. Lots of drinking and activities on site kept us busy throughout the day. Food and alcohol was amazing! Entertainment Staff should get several 5 Stars and they were funny and kept the crowd entertained.

Im going to give Sandals 5 stars simply because they do have all the attention to detail, and are truly magnificent. In March, this will be my forth trip. Third at Montego Bay, once at Royal Carribean, twice in the past year. Here is how to improve. Bring back more leather sandals necklaces, and evening games. There were scavenger hunts, toga parties, and fun couples games. Didn't see any of that on the last trip. Also, stop upselling everything on phone calls prior to arrival. Maybe suggest opportunities, but not so pushy. If the off resort trip is 200 bucks at the resort, but only 100 at the time of booking, and it isn't a Sandals trip, then how is there such a price break? Remember the little things at the resort are what makes it a memory, not how much can you get from the guests. All is all, if you are looking for a VERY HIGH quality vacation in a beautiful country, with a fantastic staff, then Sandals is the way to go.
