The place is amazing and well distributed in a way that you can always have a good view of the stage. The Nutcracker is an unique experience in life.
They just should find a solution for the lines at the snack bar where many people can get their snacks/beverages just about the show is set to restart (during the intermission).

We went to the Nutcracker ballet and enjoyed the beautiful Christmas decorations inside this iconic venue. It's fun to stand in the foyer, grab a drink and enjoy the grand space with other San Franciscans.

Great opera house. There are also TVs in the lobby with sound, so you can check out what's going on on stage without going past the lobby, which is cool too.

The standing tickets are very budget-priced!

SF Ballet, a must see if you have any culture at all. Even if you don't, just think about the difficulty of leaping shoulder high 6 times in a row and landing with little sound. Then not even winded, dancing like that for another 1.5 hrs. The ballet is awesome and worth every penny.

It's strengths are also it's weaknesses. It reeks of long-ago grandeur and style. The architecture is opulent but dated, it is ornate but not beautiful. The chairs are velvet but have too many years of weight thrust upon them and sag terribly and are too close to the row in front of them. So it kind of reminds me of an aging movie star who was once beautiful and glamorous but now tries unsuccessfully to recapture her moments through excessive makeup and features which just aren't magical any more. Think Joan Collins :)

Always good to see some classical ballet, and they had some of the best, like swan lake and Nutcracker. I have watched both and the performers, and the musical accompnimant were both very good.

There is something about buildings of this era. Built for the public and built to last while not scrimping in beauty and unparalleled use of materials. Wow. Go early and wander around you will not be sorry. Oh yeah and let s not forget about the wonderful operas that are staged here as well!

We visit the War Memorial for the San Francisco ballet a few times each year, & it's always a pleasure. I love the quiet luxury of the velvet draperies, the Grecian-style pillars, & the ornate wall filigrees. This elegant old building is a beautiful foil for the ballet, & I hope to continue attending for many more years.

Wonderful venue, but avoid the cramped balcony. Don't miss the third floor terrace. Beat the lines at intermission by pre-ordering champagne before the performance at one of the many bars. SF Opera is among the best in the country.

Spectacular, the facilities are incredible, the access was super fast. There is a small area to buy some snacks and a good space to share before the show.

It should be taken into account that the upper seats can be quite high (for those people who are afraid of heights)

Really wish the opera was made more available to people like me with less money but a love for the art! Fortunately I'm sure all the proceeds go to paying the stellar musicians and cast that put on these brilliant performances. I was more than happy to pay for my seat!

My father is in opera, and I used to see him perform in the Sacramento Opera, there as well, I noticed it is generally for "high society". How can we make fine art more available to the middle and lower class? When do we hold the rich accountable for antiquating and locking these art forms behind golden doors? Hopefully the opera remains as gilded and beautifully supported as it is now in the future, but I fear it will forever be an old fantasy for aristocrats.

MAKE ALL FINE ARTS SLIDING SCALE!

Easy access by public transit, on foot, car etc. Reserve a table down stairs for a pre show dinner or dessert during intermission. Architecture is gorgeous, photo ops are perfect inside or outside, be sure to go out on the 2nd floor veranda for great views and photos of the City Hall dome. Handicap access.

It's a beautiful old art deco palace. What's not to like? They do have a restaurant here where you can do dinner before the show. The food there is decent, but the real benefit is being able to stay in the same building.

The Nutcracker itself was absolutely fabulous, but the staff of the War Memorial Opera House made me feel more like cattle than a guest.

After spending over $300 per ticket for box seats we weren't even allowed to remain in our box for more than 10 minutes after the performance. Even though we were finishing our last bit of coffee that we ordered.

There's just something about paying that much for tickets and having an usher come to your box and ask you to leave. After being rushed from our box seats we went downstairs to take a few photos only to have the lights turned out to give us the hint to leave.

It was almost like the the staff had more important things to do then allow those attending the ballet to enjoy themselves afterwards. Very disappointing!

My boyfriend and I are going to San Francisco Opera for over 9 years. Last night, Romeo and Juliet was great. But the building was way too hot. The seats are not very comfortable. Seats are need to be update. We usually go to War Memories Opera House about 15 times or more in a year. The seats are need to be really update. It was very unpleasant sitting in the heat and uncomfortable seat. TLC the air-conditioner Please!
