We saw the last performance of the Nutcracker from the San Francisco Ballet. Interesting changes to the story line but a good venue.

Its a beautiful place i didn't feel it's a welcoming place for children I had 4 of my grandchildren ranging in ages of 7 to 12 yrs.old..the bathrooms were down 3 flights of stairs and driving there was horrendous
Love this theatre ... the chandelier alone is worth the price of admission.
Beautiful, iconic landmark for San Francisco. There's a balcony on the 2nd floor that you can sneak out on to look down to the street or catch a quick smoke. Excellent views of city hall from there. The performances hosted here (ballet and otherwise) always leave me walking away with new appreciations and reflections. Most recently attended the brave new voices production. Really fantastic. Would like to see them take a more modern approach to the bar and options available. Very typical when it comes to this - a bit stuffy, limited selection, very pricey. I've never done the full meal section, only the concession bar.
The place is beautiful and the staff are very nice. There are lots of places to get food and drinks, but of course it s expensive, so have some($20 or so)of money in your pocket.
I experienced the Opera two ways, through a tour and attending a performance. Wow to both! The building itself is beautiful with historical significance but the performances offer the magic of sitting in a beautiful theater with talented orchestra, dancers, and vocalists dazzling you with their craft.
Spectacular venue, 5min walk from many restaurants on Hayes street. Nutcracker was very enjoyable for whole family.
Wonderful place during the performances...although both resturants are closed when there isnt a show its a wonderful place to dine...especially the buffet...well worth the card swipe...lol
Spectacular production of Puccini's Opera "Manon Lescaut" put a great ending of the Season 2019.
It's the most wonderful magical place you can ever go to attend the ballet and the Opera thank you very much
Great Ballet. Beautiful building. Great people watching.
Amazing place! We saw the nutcracker and Shen yun here. It beat our expectations
Nice and swanky for this black collar guy, but hey, my bride loves the ballet.,. and I love her.
Great place! Great performance! Wonderful experience!
Wonderful afternoon seeing dress rehearsal of Little Mermaid. My first time seeing Ballet.
Went to see Hansel and Gretel and was blown away by the talent and grandeur we have in SF! Can't wait to see another show.
Nice old theater. Caught the San Francisco ballet doing the Nutcracker with the family, but this is a review of the theater not the show. Upper seats are short pitched with little leg room, and there isn't much offset between rows, so a tall patron in front of you can block more of the stage than expected. Front room of the upper balcony is probably much nicer than even a few rows back. Acoustics are good and the orchestra was clear. Stage is deep, which gives the cast a lot of room. Definitely worth catching a show here.
Why is there a $12 "handling charge" on will-call tickets?
It's a racket.
The arts should serve the community, not fleece it.
Beautiful old fashioned opera and ballet house
Great acoustics.
Beautiful entryway and venue. Seats in balconies are very small. If you are tall or have long legs, good luck. Only two elevators so look forward to climbing steps. Aco
ustics are good!
We went to the opera house and restaurant and we enjoyed very much. Is a beautiful place and comfortable. Is an excellent assessment for San Francisco.
Such a beautiful building, with a clear view from many seats, and great sound (that might be the powerful voices of the singers).
One of the top opera houses in the US. Productions are typically pretty traditional, so it's a great venue for opera novices to explore this genre of music. Tickets are very expensive though.
Beautiful. Saw the Nutcracker here and it was a great night.
beautiful venue for performance. maybe rather too large.
the Nutcracker is an amazing event to attend with the whole family.
Great acoustics and definitely a genuine operatic experience in the heart of San Francisco.
Beautiful setting, great accustics but dear God, the seats are absolute torture. I am a tall gentleman with long legs and just finished experiencing Wagner's Ring Cycle. Now I am in serious need of my chiropractor.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, there are several outdoor areas to get fresh air if needed.
Watched the Nutcracker here recently and thoroughly enjoyed the building. The entrance is nice, the staircases are nice, the seats are even nice.
I would like a bit more leg room, but it didn't matter very much after I got settled into the seat.
Incredible venue to watch The Nutcracker. My first time at the War Memorial Opera House and I would watch another performance here again. The drinks and food are costly, but that's to be expected. Next time I'll sneak food and drink in because it was a price gouge. A truly beautiful evening in SF.
#Nutcracker was amazing! The dancers were Beautiful. This was my first time at the War Memorial Opera House and I was NOT disappointed. The opera house is Gorgeous! I will definitely be back for many other performances.
2 sharp rocks and a thorn bush feel better than those seats
The place is beautiful and well staffed. Acoustics are amazing with good views from any seat. Need to be Orchestra or Box to see faces clearly without binoculars. Food and drinks are good quality and better than expected price.
I've seen two operas here and I absolutely love it. It's gorgeous on the outside, but even more gorgeous on the inside. Both shows I saw, I was seated in the balcony and the acoustics were great. The on-screen translations are also a very welcome addition.
I also love the way SF Opera treats their dress code: I usually show up in dark jeans and a collared shirt and have not been harassed once. Sure, many people dress very nicely, but those of us who don't are not harassed in any way.
My biggest gripe with this Opera house is how expensive it is. Although they tout their free standing section (no one wants to stand through the entirety of a 2 hour opera...), the cheapest seating is still pretty pricey. However, I think it's well worth it.
Beautiful venue. Watched a very nice Sleeping Beauty ballet. Highly recommend.
Flew down for the nite from Oregon for the 75th Anniversary SF Ballet's Nutcracker performance. As with our entire lives, not disappointed!!
Grand venue. The only place one must experience opera.
So beautiful place. I watched the Nutcracker, and I loved it.
Great performance and ambiance. I would recommend eating at a nearby restaurant instead of dinning at the Opera house when planning an event. The menu is limited, the staff is great, but they get overwhelmed and orders get backed up.
This place was fantastic. There were ample enough bars so there wasn't long wait times before the show and during intermission. Bathrooms are clean. The temperature was comfortable no need for a jacket. Definitely will return.
It is THE OPERA...a great art form. Romeo and Juliet..the singing was magnificent. Great casting.
This beautiful historical lamdmark is majestic and a walk back in time. In addition to the opera and ballet, there are sometimes special shows here, like a recent reading by author David Sedaris.
Always a great venue for musicales of any sort with fine world class accoustics.
75th anniversary Nutcracker on Xmas Eve. What more can you ask for?
Such a beautiful old building. Some seating feels a bit tight (I wouldn't want to crawl over anyone to make a bathroom visit), yet there was enough leg space for me to be comfortable.
Always great to see performances here! Plan how you go -- there's tons on construction on Van Ness!
Excellent Opera House! Tosca's acting and singing was incomparable!
An amazing venue for the ballet or opera. Truly a classic Frisco gem. Saw the National Ballet of Canada perform Nijinsky
This place is amazing. Great place to see San Francisco Ballet.
Beautiful, impressive building in art-deco style. We bought tickets at balcony level for the Nutcracker Ballet. While the sound was great, the seats were too high to see and feel part of the show.
Beautiful classic Beaux Arts style building, corner stone says built in 1931. The interior is an even better example of the style that is mostly preserved, restored or respected.
Wish I could afford to go to the Opera House again!
Beautiful elegant venue for San Francisco Ballet. A real treat and special place to be. We had the buffet lunch in the restaurant downstairs, pricey but very good.
Beautiful & elegant venue for performance art. Brilliantly designed & well preserved architecture. Highly recommend catching a show here.
Beautiful building with lots of rich history both artistically and politically. It is home for both the SF opera and ballet. These two artistic institutions are world class programs and enrich the cultural life of the entire Bay Area. It is also the location where the drafting of the articles of the United Nations took place and, in 1951, the place where the papers for giving back Japan's sovereignty were signed.
We love it. The screens for the top balcony seats are not always on. What's the point of having them?
Beautiful theatre - the seats are TIGHT! The performance was wonderful!
The colors and chinese dance is very beautiful. The scenes are entertaining and the patented screen is a great enhancement to the performance. I would definitely see it again. The best part is its different every year.
Sat in the Dress Circle. Seats about as comfortable as airlines, but with less leg room.
The whole experience is excellent. The place is beautiful, the sound is great. Every staff member we talked to was very friendly and helpful. You will probably want to bring some binoculars if you sit in the Dress Circle or higher, they also rent them for $5.
Always a pleasure! Love the special energy this space presents for enjoying a ballet performance.
