My 90 yr old father fell and cracked his pelvic bone. He was taken by ambulance to the ER. EVERY employee we had contact from ambulance drivers, ER nurses and providers, orthopedic floor nurses and providers and even the cleaning crew were all very friendly. The nurses and providers were all great and patient with questions. Dr Elliott was exceptional. Thank you all.

The neurology dept. was incredibly personable and sensitive to our family's needs when my mother had a major stroke in August 2015. From the physicians to the social worker, the team that met with our family was aware of our family's difference of opinions concerning a plan for my mother's care. The incredible cohesiveness and professionalism of the neurology dept. was able to bring our family together giving us the tools that we needed to make the difficult decisions needed at that time. The care on the neurology floor was exceptional!

My husband's appendix ruptured, St. Luke's operated, then put him on a ventilator saying he wasn't breathing good enough. They tied him to the bed and told me that he probably had brain damage and he should be kept in a permanent vegetative state and checked into their long term care wing (we have good insurance and they saw $$$ signs). On day 6 he woke up, completely recovered (was cleared to leave by the surgeon), they advised me I wasn't allowed to check him out or transfer him to another hospital. They said I had no rights even though I am his durable power of attorney. They threatened to have me arrested. I stood my ground and said I'd call the police myself. They finally backed off and let me leave with him. Went straight home and he's perfectly fine! They tried to warehouse him so they could bilk the insurance company as long as possible. This was money grab, plain and simple, and if I hadn't fought back, that's exactly what would have happened. Don't be bullied, don't be lied to, know your rights!

We had the worst experience ever here with them my mother in law died in their care after repeatedly stating from other people she could make it and then we hear the doctor say that she would not make it they kept allowing seizures to happen instead of giving her medicine then staff is horrible they care nothing about your family member the dialysis team sucks they don't even know know what they are doing. They were giving her dialysis and I heard the woman whisper to the man don't tell anyone I am doing this is this between us? I am like hello family members here listening to every word you say and then I reported it and the woman got mad with me because she was being sneaky at work with dying patients in her care. then they look at you like you are wrong for asking about your loved one when we can clearly see they were not doing anything about it. I just do not see how employees in all the icu's sit back and laugh at their desk when patients are critically ill. The doctor who came and told us she is going to die and he was not going to do anything else for her appeared as if he was high on drugs he had blonde hair and about 5'5 and had no sympathy at all I told my family to take her to KU to have more experienced care but they let her die while they were on their phones laughing and giggling. She was transferred so many times by all icu units because NO ONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

My husband had the "widow maker" heart attack and was transported by helicopter from our rural Cass county home to the Mid America Heart Institute at St. Luke's. Your staff not only saved his life, but treated him with care and compassion. You arranged cardiac rehabilitation, dietary changes and medications to aid in his full recovery. I am eternally grateful for the level of care you provided. Thank you to all of the doctors and nursing staff who turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of survival.

We were referred here from Springfield, MO because nobody there could do his surgery. Every single person we have dealt with has been amazing. The ladies that called to confirm appointments, doctors, nurses, aids, volunteers, and even the cleaning people. My only complaint would be the food in the cafeteria. It's hospital food so I guess it could always be worse.

This is the most RACIST hospital I have ever been to! I am ashamed that I even gave birth to two of my childen there. Over the years their medical care has really declined. The Dr's & nurses are extremely poor in their bedside manner, they have too many patients so patients do not receive the proper treament they deserve. They discriminate against those who voice their opinion regarding better care. I visited the E.R. recently & the staff discriminated against me & was EXTREMELY RUDE & when I made a report to the patient advocate; instead of getting my full statement, she chose to send a COMPLETELY false report to the grievance committee. This is totally unacceptable & have the right to receive adequate medical care & respect, so therefore I will be contacting the BBB as well as tbe Civil Rights in regards this issue.

What a lowsy service! About 2 months dealing with my medical informati to have a procedure done today, the hospital waited till yesterday (before most office) went home to tell me that I was not cleared by the cardiolgy department. I took off from work because the hospital kept planing for this day. After that blender< no body answers the phone and no body call back. Those are the effects can a Hispnic name create at St Luke

My father just left this hospital. He was there for a week. The two nurses I met, Britney(main nurse) and Destiny(assistant nurse), were great and very attentive to my father's needs. They were on top of every beep and regularly came by to check on him. I'm very grateful he was taken to St. Luke's rather than to Center Point.

I waited for three hours for a severe emergency to be addressed. I watched multiple people go in ahead of me while I continued to wait. I tried to get info on when I'd be seen and finally became so fed up from the lack of info and told them I was leaving to go to another hospital. The triage nurse said coldly, "sign this," and that was it. It was cruelest, most horrible ER experience I've ever had.

The program specialist was not helpful or professional. She continually tried to tell me my insurance did not cover a surgery when in fact it does. Yes there are qualifications, however she would not help me determine how to meet the qualifications just continued to tell me my insurance did not cover the service. She gave me no other guidance or alternatives. I asked multiple times for help but received none. When I finally spoke with her continued to tell me my insurance would not cover it and my only option was self pay. That would have been fine if she had spent the time to explain this option. Her response "I do this everyday" should mean that she be educated enough to speak with anyone in any situation, yet all it meant was that she felt she could continue to speak down to me.

Unbelievably inexperienced nurses and rude condescending tone to a newborn and mother. One 24 hour period when you have complete coverage paid for is some fast food style treatment. Moving bodies is something I can t stand. Baby in NICU for day 1 of 2 breastfeeding and you have her sleeping on a cot. Shame. Swearing and condemning does nothing to solve a deep seeded issue and the treatment review is just the tip of the iceberg. Shuffling human beings around is something I will never sit around and tolerate. Enjoy the emails and phone calls from board members.

A close family member owes their stroke response t...

A close family member owes their stroke response team her life or at least half her brain. As a doctor myself, I'm impressed and forever grateful that she went from collapsing at home to having brain CT and diagnosis of major clot in the brain to having the clot removed all in less than two hours including ambulance time. From unresponsive and half-paralyzed to fully talking by the end of the procedure. Not everyone can get that amazing outcome, there are many factors including luck, but if she had gone somewhere less prepared for this scenario the results would have been devastating and lifelong.

I've read good and bad reviews below. Unfortunately many with bad outcomes will blame the hospital, rightly or wrongly. But I recognize exceptional quality care in this particular case that made ALL the difference.

I have a grandchild who has been in the NICU. At first, the care was good, but over time we noticed that there was a lack of care coordination between the many physicians that have been taking care of our grandchild. We've also noticed somewhat of a disregard of the parents wishes and concerns. Finally, my child was told our grandchild was going to be dismissed because insurance would not pay for another day of care for a stable child who weighs less than 4 pounds. My child checked with insurance; this was a false statement. They have, in my opinion, been bullied by those caring for our grandchild.

If I could give no stars I would. I had ACDF c5/6 surgery on 6/11. I woke up from surgery with dizziness and the room sideways, I couldn't walk or stand. I continued to tell the neurosurgeon and nurses that something was wrong, the dizziness wasn't normal and I was off balance. I was ignored. They tried to tell me I was having panic attacks and gave me Valium. I was having tachycardia and heart pounding within 24 hours after surgery. They wanted to send me home, I refused as I couldn't stand. I left on the 5th day, had to use a wheelchair and still couldn't stand or walk. Called my neurosurgeon office and he was awful, told me the dizziness had nothing to do with him. I went to another ER and had numerous tests ran and I was diagnosed with a right cerebellum stroke. I had it during my hospital stay and St. Luke's ignored the issues and symptoms. I'm younger and now debilitated, if I would of been sent to rehabilitation while I was in the hospital, I probably wouldn't be so debilitated currently. I would advise others not to go to St. Luke's. Dangerous and awful patient care. Filed a formal complaint with the state and hospital. Something needs to be done to ensure this doesn't happen to others.

Slow ER. I came in with debilitating pain & it too...

Slow ER. I came in with debilitating pain & it took them 3-4hrs to give me anything. I understand there s a lot of drug seekers out there but when someone comes in with prior severe trauma to their entire body(broke every limb, ribs, neck, & back + lacerated/ruptured almost ALL of their internal organs less than 6mo prior to the visit) they should be treated more promptly & not put through an extended wait time. I had just had my 9th or 10th surgery of the year a few weeks before the ER visit & was greatly offended by the lack of urgency. Yes. There s a process & I do understand that. I was hospitalized earlier 2017 for over 3mo. I know they can t waive a magic wand & get to every patient promptly BUT when someone is crying so hard that their eyes are almost swollen shut? + an extremely extensive list of injuries that they endured less than 6mo before!!! Plus I came in with an ambulance!!!
In the end they gave me ketamine which helped but was an even more uncomfortable experience in and of itself. Less than an hour after leaving the ER I was in severe pain all over again, like the problem wasn t addressed. Just a quick bandaid, pat on the back, and off I went. I needed a more balanced solution & I was pushed through the system instead.

I was recently here my finance was in kidney failure due to Stage 4 Lung Cancer, the Nurses in MSTICU 4TH FLOOR.were absolutely the best nurses around. So very kind, loving and compassionate. My wife had to make an emergency appointment in the labor and delivery department today. We were pretty nervous when we arrived, but we were so happy to be greeted by two young men at the valet stand outside the entrance. Mitchell and Evan were both polite and extremely helpful. They smiled and Mitchell was very friendly when Evan literally ran when it was time to retrieve our vehicle. We would have obviously preferred to not have had to rush to the doctor today, but I thought it worth noting that Mitchell and Evan really did a great job today.

On August 31st, 2018, my granddaughter, Melaena Isobelle, to my youngest daughter, Serena Nikole (Crabtree family), alive & healthy. They saved Serena's life & my, Melaena's, life. To all who helped Melaena to thrive, God be with you & thank you from my heart. In 2005, you did all to save my Dad, Monte Earle Crabtree from cancer. I know this & he was thriving while at St. Luke's Hospital. I lost him after release as he was recooperating in rehabilitation after SSM, in Maryville, Mo. Golden Living Nursing Home. To the nurses & the surgeon in 2005, I thank you in all that you could do to help my dad. It impressed me that he could pedal 30 minutes using the physical therapy pedaling like a recumbent bike as long as he did. That surgical incision was quite large & my dad hoped he would survive the pancreatic cancer. Sadly, he did not survive it in Maryville, Mo.. Thank you, Tina Michelle Crabtree - Westcott

They saved my life. I am thankful for that. I had cancer ten years ago, and was treated kindly, then. I'm not a fan, however, of big hospitals that feel like a wal-mart. I dread even trying to make my check-up appointments and dealing with this behemoth of a healthcare system. Calling most offices at St. Luke's is a chore when it should not be.

After having aortic valve (I I don't know how to refresh this complaint it was very hard for me to find it again I just want to make sure it stays up posted for a long time )replacement a little over a year ago the nurses and doctors on the heart and lung department of St. Luke's let me lay in bed for five days having multiple strokes , all the time I was trying to get somebody to pay attention to my wife and my complaints the worst care I ever had thank you St. Luke's for the strokes!

And thanks to the inadequate care I got at St. Luke's Mid-America heart Institute they could've possibly stopped the second and third maybe even the first stroke with some clotbusting drugs or stroke medicine but they totally disregarded everything I said eight nurses and two Drs. it wasn't even reported that my wife and I both were complaining of my
Continuing
Seizure like problems nobody would address it I should've had a CAT scan they sent me home after five days I ended up in North Kansas City Hospital where they discovered I had had three strokes I found out later St. Luke's was having joint commission accreditation and didn't want a little incident of strokes on the record postop so I believe they destroyed my records

Each time I would complain to one of the nurses or Dr. PAK , or Dr. borcon about my continuing seizures or mini strokes I was having post op, they are all totally disregarded mine and my wife's concerns and told us it was just post op Anastasia , did no stroke diagnostic test, two years later today I am still suffering from stroke complications, thanks a lot St. Luke's hospital and staff I hope no one ever puts any of them in the same harms way!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way my aortic valve transplant went very well that part of it was a success. But with brain deficits it is very very frustrating. TIM TUNSTILL.x

I had my baby here and there where some cons and pros. Security for labor and delivery is very good. You can only access through locked elevators and they require your info before the elevator is approved up to a secured waiting area. The valet parking is directly in front of elevators. Labor and delivery rooms are very big but also very outdated, the entire dept is very outdated. The beds are extremely uncomfortable just a warning. I felt my nurse was nice and attentive but breached my privacy during the birth, I had told my nurse ahead of time I wanted no students during my birth and she ignored my requests and her and my obgyn brought in EMT students during the middle of me pushing my baby out and convinced me to let them watch, they knew what they were doing and it was highly unprofessional. I was not impressed with the nurse who took care of my baby after he was born as she waited over 12 hours to give him his bath and his skin became irritated and cracked and bled. She wanted to wait bc according to them since I was gestational diabetic his bath could affect his sugar levels and they had to have a few readings before they could give him his bath, my question is why did I never have this issue with NKC Hospital who gave him his bath right away and also took my babies levels with no problem. Also one nurse kept having a malfunctioning glucose monitor and kept sticking my sons heel with a lancet when she should have ensured her machine was working or gotten another, my kid is not a practice dummy, he actually feels pain. Pros was the food was really good especially their omelets and quick to arrive. The security for postpartum floor is more lax and should be tightened up as I saw several instances where people walked in behind other groups without being vetted. Rooms are very tiny but they have nice views if you get a window (not all of them have windows just fyi) and updated which is a welcome change from the depressing outdated labor and delivery floor. I think St Lukes needs to dedicate a more modern department or build a whole new building for labor and delivery and postpartum. Also my anesthesiologist was subpar. He was a resident and came in with his supervisor and I should have known that was a bad sign. He only numbed half of my body so I might as well had not gotten the epidural, yet he was very nonchalant and I would say even cocky while doing the procedure as if he knew what he was doing.

It took an hour to get out of the waiting room, an hour in the room, an hour for a urine test to come back, and then an hour to get the cat scan back. It is obvious they were not busy; it should not take that long for all of these things to go through. Unless you have insurance, no hospital cares about you. Saint Luke's has shown to be just like the others: slow and unsatisfactory.

I saw Dr. Steinle at his clinic, Physiatrist for TBI issues. They were faxed and emailed all my information prior to my visit and claimed Dr. Steinle is the director over the rehab program and would be able to help me. His direct nurse even talked to him specifically about me, and he said yes he could help me. After getting there, in the visit he said he didn't have experience with TBI but only with strokes. He couldn't even understand my symptoms because brain injuiries is not his speciality, strokes are. So I traveled for three days to see him and wasted my time and worsened my condition. They were notified ahead of time that travel is hard for me and would worsen symptoms and said yes go ahead nad come he is experienced in your injury. I got there and he was not, and that was after waiting months to get in with repeated communication with the nurse very familiar with my situation. Then, for months they have refused to correct medical records.

My mother just got home from St. Luke's. She'd had a stroke, and they took amazing care of her. She had nothing but great things to say about the staff, the doctors, and the care they provided. The only downside was the food. Apparently tasted like the hospital smelled; antiseptic. But, what can you ask for in hospital food really? At least they provide a menu these days and let you have a choice! (Heartland Medical Center in St. Joseph blows them out of the water in this area though!)

The staff usually takes care of me. I have a lot of family that are nurses at this hospital. I'm having a panic attack right outside of the building because Nurse Practioner in the ER today, Betsy, lacks medical training. When i seize, I'll be sure to sue her personally. She called me a drug addict as soon as she walked in my room. Watch my youtube videos and many more and learn something. It's a sad state of affairs when you're the smartest person im the ER.

The headaches I have had are many and still keep coming! This is the most incompetent hospital I have seen when it comes to billing! Before that I left a different message on a different issue for the Thoracic clinic and no one ever called back. Once I am seen the people are great but access is an inconceivable nightmare. I had my gallbladder removed here just yesterday. Everyone was so kind and wonderful. I was called ahead of time and given prep instructions and excellent driving directions. All the nurses and doctors introduced themselves, and they explained what they were doing every step of the way (except when I was unconscious, of course - and even then they gave my family in the waiting room frequent updates). Afterwards, when I was too groggy to really do much for myself, the nurse helped me dress while carefully helping me retain my privacy (pulling the curtains, putting a blanket around me, etc). I felt so cared for. I would recommend St. Luke's to anybody.

This was my worst ever ER experience.

This was my worst ever ER experience.

There was a long wait, four hours just to see a doctor. In that time no one even looked at my wound. I'm sitting there, bleeding, and the triage nurse, the RN, the radiology tech, no one actually lifted the home made compress to LOOK at the injury.

The doctor (Samir K. Doshi) popped in, said my x-rays showed nothing broken and then started to leave the room. I asked him if anyone was going to look at the wound to see if it needed stitches. He lifted my wrap, took a quick peek and said it would be fine. They could get my antibiotics if I wanted.

I get that there is a wait in in emergency rooms but the complete lack of care of interest in some one who is bleeding is mind boggling. My vitals were stable so no one looked at the injury. I feel like they more or less said "Yes, that's nice, you can go away now." I'm going to follow up with my GP in the morning because I'm not really sure I don't need stitches.

It was a quiet night, the waiting room was almost empty and I didn't see or hear any other patients about. I've had better care at the old MCI ER when there were car crash victims to compete with than I did at St. Lukes.

Spent a few days here after delivery. Some, again SOME of the nurses were extremely uncaring and rough. Had the worst attitudes ever, as if i was getting on their nerves for being in pain and needing assistance. I understand working in the health field can be an exhausting and a overwhelming job at times. However, that goes back to the old saying "If you can't take the heat get outta the kitchen". I could tell the nurses that Im referring to aren't in it for the absolute care for people but the money. Wish I would have had the transportation to make it to Centerpoint. The hospitals in the inner city are all horrible

No if you have an emergency run to Truman or any other hospital. I'm in another state so yes I am very upset. Common Damn Sense is not at St. Lukes.

*Walk-In Clinic*

*Walk-In Clinic*
Pros:
-Check-In and Nursing staff were personable.
-They accepted my insurance.

Cons:
- I did not see a doctor for TWO HOURS. I went in at 3 pm and did not see a doctor until 5:05 pm. I waited to be called in by a nurse for 20 min, gave a urine sample and waited in another room for 40 minutes, went to the patient room and answered a few questions for the nurse (25 min) and then waited in a gown on the bed for 35 minutes to see a doctor.
-I was entered in to the system by two different nurses at two different times (one came in about 5 minutes after the first). I told both of them the same information. I also told them I wanted a flu shot, which I never received.
-The doctor was cold and made me uncomfortable while performing a very personal and slightly painful exam.
-They sent me a link where I could leave a review of my experience and in order to access it I had to enter by birthdate. I did. It responded with "The date of birth entered does not match our records."

I will be looking elsewhere for future medical needs.
