National Park close to Tucson.. the park has two main visitor center - red hills in west and rincon in east. The east side of the park has only 8 miles cactus loop drive and desert ecology trail. The loop road is paved and one can see different types of cactus plants mainly prickly pear and hedgehog

The east side of the park is actually the beautiful place with tall saguaro trees. The trees cover the entire west side of the park. The east side of the park has Badaja loop drive - 6 miles unpaved road. The east side of the park has short hikes - valley view overlook is the must see point.

The desert nature trail is the best place for sunset with orange sky and tall saguaro. Please walk carefully as the plants have thorns and stick to your body. Carry enough water bottles

It is a beautiful place in the spring. How the curtains open up at the end of the movie is nice. I wouldn't want to "hike" to the petroglyphs when the weather is warmer. Unlike any other National Park I have been to, much smaller.

We visited the west side of Saguaro National Park. The Red Hills Visitor Center offers a lot of interpretive information, nestled in the most sense Saguaro cactus "forest". A naturalist gave us a tour of a garden with all the types of plants we would see later. We hiked several trails while driving a loop road. The scenery is other-wordly. You will not find this beauty elsewhere! This is a must-see national park.

We have lived in Tucson, Arizona since November of 1987 and NEVER VISITED THE VISTOR CENTER BEFORE TODAY, 8/8/2017! I have been many, many times to the Saguaro Desert Museum and even the park its of for hikes but TODAY, we visited the Visitor Center and it is AWESOME, ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! I went to get my lifetime senior pass (starts at age 62) for $10.00 before it goes up to $50.00 on 8/28/2017 and was happily surprised by the many interactive displays at the center as well as nature hikes, a theater that plays an excellent 15 minute video about the Sonora Desert every 1/2 hour! It was so much fun to take the grandkids! Actually, forget the grandkids, I had an awesome time! Even IF you live in Tucson, go there and especially IF you are from out of town, definitely go there! One more reason to go are the well informed, courteous and friendly park rangers who work there! Don't miss this treasure...oh...and it is FREE!

Beautiful place. Be careful, if you drive slowly through the monument, you'll be ran off the road. Pull off to the side, there's tons of places to do so. Enjoy the sites, The saguaro filled mountains, the pristine and untouched wild life, the clean air, and the quiet. It's something to be coveted and cherished. Enjoy it.

Beautiful drive!! Completely paved so anyone can visit here. There are places to get out and walk around and there is also a lovely huge picnic area to have a meal at. Plenty of tables and parking places. Visiting around the holiday times was awesome, less people there and wonderful weather!

Been to East and West a few times. West is our favorite. The visitor's center is very nice and the trails are wide and welcoming. There is just something very calming about walking among the saguaros and the desert landscape. Make sure to bring a good amount of water, sunscreen and sunglasses/ hat. We wear long sleeves and pants, but light enough to breathe.

Awesome

It's fascinating to learn about the saguaro and other cacti and desert dwellers, and their survival adaptations. There are stunning vistas. There are actually two parks and two visitors' centers which comprise Saguaro NP. Sadly, they don't coordinate well and don't even have information on one another's programs. (Weird, right?) The west visitors' center is larger and their film (which focuses on Native American perceptions and history) is good but could be better it it included a lot more about the saguaro. The film ends with a wonderfully dramatic lifting of the screen, revealing a nice view of the desert. There's a decent nature walk/trail at the back of the center. Restrooms are nice, and air conditioned, but though they are outside the main body of the visitors' center, they, too, are locked at 5 pm. (Inconvenient, since daylight allows the nature trail to be used for several more hours.) Rangers and volunteers are knowledgeable and helpful. Re-created desert scene with floors and Dayna is well done.
The east (Rincon) visitors center is smaller. Two films rotate, both are decent; one focuses on the early settlers of the area... Not captivating for kids, but important history. Merchandise prices in the gift shop are not well marked (even post card prices!) Exhibits are ok. Best is a monitor streaming what a night vision camera has captured in last six months (coyotes, javellina, etc.)
While you're in the area, take in the nearby Desert Museum. Not part of the park, but near the West visitors center, and very well done.

Nice hiking trails. Some of the are real short and easy. They have outstanding picnic sites and an informative museum with some hands on stuff for kids. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the trails we hiked and the views! Don't forget to view the petroglyphs!

It would be easy to spend an entire day exploring the park, but it was nice that in the visitors center they gave ideas for specific things to do depending on how much time you had to spend. We took one of the driving loops around a part of the park and also took two small hikes into the park. Truly an amazing sight to behold - endless Saguaro cacti as far as the eye can see. Will be back to explore further.

it's a national park, and yes it is beautiful. And right next to the Arizona desert museum which also looks pretty cool. I went on the Kings canyon trail. I was a bit disappointed because this trail was not well marked and it was not improved. They were many places where I had to scramble up rocks and duck overgrown cacti and things which for a lot of people would have been very challenging. I eventually gave up on the trail because it's basically a wash and it was pretty hard to navigate the higher up you got. But it was a lot of fun.

Both sides are different and well worth a visit. The East side had a paved roadway that was easy to traverse and the west side had a dirt road that was easy as well. Beautiful views and awesome places to get out and hike as well. If you dedicate a day to both parks you can hike and see most of it. Plenty of trails to get out and see! The cactus were awesome and saw plenty of wildlife as well.

I enjoyed the hikes very much. The visitors center and staff were great. My only gripe is getting to Signal Hill area and then trying to get back out to the highway. No signage to expedite an exit from the park. Can't wait to get back and enjoy more trails.

Well looked after trails and facilities, very nice picnic areas, beautiful natural desert scenery. Also there are some paved trails where a wheelchair can be used. Answer to question: The crested Saguaro is on the road out to the Javalina picnic area.
