I lived in AZ for 4 years, traveler here for 20, and even I was impressed to see SO many saguaro packed in to one spot! We has only a short time to visit, and this was my first time coming out this way, but won t be my last.

Thankfully we met a very nice park ranger (we have met hundreds of amazing NPS employees at this point!) who explained the differences between the two sides of the park, so I have more info for when I make it back!

There are two separate parts to this national park with a scenic drive in both. but at the opposite ends of Tucson. The one in the west has far more saguaros although it is all on an unpaved road. We travelled out to the west section through the state mountain park - makes for a great drive. There s also a pleasant little nature walk around the visitor centre at the western section for those not up to long hikes.

It's a must see! Especially it's spring, the land is lush and green, cacti are plump with water and you'll probably see splashes of blooms in all the warm colors. The Sonoran Desert is one of the loveliest landscapes in spring.

I love it here it is my front yard we have lived out here 9 years and can't imagine going anywhere else!! So many great programs, awesome spring blooms, most colorful sunsets!! If you visit please be kind to our delicate plant life it may be prickly but not as tough as it looks! And please don't litter!

Great National Park. The Saguaros are breathtaking. Nice visitor center. I only had the chance to visit the East Park. The drive through the park is very nice and there are plenty of places where you can pull of and admire the Saguaros. I hope to get to visit the west park someday and also be able to visit when the saguaros are actually in bloom, which is in the spring.

Spectacular saguaros and landscape. Too bad the entrance is kind of expensive ($20). You can see as or maybe more impressive landscape driving to Mount Lemmon. Of course if you have a yearly pass ($80 for all the parks) the entrance become free. That's what I ended up doing.

Well worth the drive and the cost! Fantastic, well maintained trails abound throughout the desert areas, and the views are interstellar!! No better place to experience the pristine desert in a controlled manner!!

Visited the east side, beautiful even if you just drive through and stop at the scenic overlooks. We did some small hikes which were easy and enjoyable, but the scenic drive was our favorite part.

Beautiful park. If you stay on paved roads, it's free to drive around. If you plan to drive the gravel loop, it's $25 - I don't remember if that's per car or per person, as we did the free drive. Lots of interesting info about the cacti and places to stop to get a closer look. Great gift shop with a variety of items for all ages.

An extremely knowledgeable intern ranger provided us with a most interesting tour of the desert plants. After which, we went to the Smoke Signal Petroglyphs trail. A beautiful area with Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) structures. The walk, with large steps, take you to the petroglyphs and beautiful surrounding views. A most enjoyable time was had here.

Well worth a stop, even if you don't want to go on a hike. There's an 8-mile loop drive with many stops for interpretation. Beautiful landscape, knowledgeable interpreters, even saw some wildlife.

If you want to drive through the Sonoran Desert and you re in Tucson, I suppose this is a good place to visit. To be totally honest, it s not that different than anywhere else in the desert. The biggest perk is the hiking trails, but otherwise I would recommend you take a nice drive in the Superstitions up by Phoenix, or head down to Bisbee for an equally pretty drive. The park is well maintained though, and as usual, the park rangers are wonderful.

I recommend visiting the East Park as it has a paved road and a little more to see. The West Park (on the other side of Tucson) is nice, but the loop is a dirt road with just a few hiking trails.

You could stop by and see the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum by the West Park. And the East Park is near the Pima Air & Space Museum (a must see).

Sublime flora and fauna at the perfect altitude for cooler desert exploration. There are hundreds of miles of trails between the east and west Saguaro National Parks. Don't forget the visitor center on the westside it is excellent.

Nice park, we were able to fully experience do to the "no dogs in National Park" rule. We were still able to walk the gravel road for about half mile. Cool hearing some coyotes calling.

Pros: my wife says "super cool" friendly staff and clean. Great drive through for scenic view. Would be a great place to bike!

Cons: drive through loop was great.. dont think I'd stay much longer than that. Not much there u less you want to camp with a cactus.

Rarely so astonished.

There, the cacti together like the spruce in Germany.
Definitely go to the Golden Gate Way.
Miese road but fantastic links and right.
A fantastic mood of nature.

I found the park hard to navigate. The map is a total disaster. The trails should be color-coded on the map. We had to ask a ranger how to get the trailhead we wanted to go to, but he wasn't sure how to get there either. Google Maps was able to get us there. During our hike, we weren't sure if we were staying on the right path or not. We ended up somehow getting onto a different trail in the middle of our hike but luckily ended up back at the car. We ran into another couple who were looking for the petroglyphs... They seemed puzzled and lost and we didn't know how to help them. You guys have people out hiking in the desert and liable to get lost out there. How much could it cost to put up better signs, and more of them? Color code your trails. Make a better map! Put up more signs so people can't get lost! But still, I give you 5 stars, because... Cactuses RULE!

Nice place for a casual drive through the park. If you go in the early morning or right before sundown, you'll enjoy picturesque sunrises and sunsets as if it's a movie location.

Plenty of wildlife and interesting looking cacti + places to turn out or park to enjoy the park.
