I always go to the Sacramento SPCA the experience was good but the only person that actually ruined my experience there was one of the nurses he was rude and he did not care that he was trying to make us feel as if we did not know as much as he did he was actually trying to school us in a rude way on what ferrel was when we were just trying to tell him that our cat, he should not trust because she is pretty skittish and will attack even if she knows the person. I know he was doing his job but he can definitely have a better attitude.

I had to put my dog down for several illnesses she had. Here they actually evaluate your vet's record/observe you with your dog and look at the dog. I was almost late, 2 vets were there and I had many records. They agreed my dog needed to be put down due to pain and chronicity of here illnesses that would make her pain even worse. While i was agonizing about putting her down, I now had 2 vets tell me it was needed for kindness to my girl. I had my other dog with me and we were allowed to see my girl after she was put down. She was on a beautiful dog bed covered with a blanket to her shoulders. My other dog smelled her and I could mourn. I had NO idea there was such a wonderful way for me and my other dog to say good-bye. Also there was total kindness from every staff member.

We went in and adopted 3 kittens. Everyone was very helpful, everything was clean and the animals were well cared for. Website was up to date. Make sure to get there early though so you can be the first to see the animals you wanted to.

They do not return phone calls, or answer the phones during business hours ; which start at 11:00am. Very frustrating ; their lack of commitment is telling. Will not use them for anything in the future.

Employees at the desk are extremely rude, almost as if they hate working there. It's as if they forgot you came to PAY to adopt animals. There were less than ten cats in the entire facility. Good luck meeting with a cat that you were interested in adopting without intense pressure from staff and volunteers.

Is a great place to get your first pet or your 50th pet they're good-natured people the animals are sweet and they all all the animals there need a good home because they've all had rough lives how do you think they wound up in the shelter. If I could have taken them all home when I was there a week ago I would have. They all need good homes.

This is absolutely THE BEST place to adopt an animal or get your pet vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped for less than you'd pay at a vet's office. Friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff and a clean, modern facility.

The staff & volunteers are truly amazing people with great hearts. There are always lots of great pets waiting for their forever homes. We got little Oreo there. While he's really cute, he is typical of the pets there - loving, adorable, and just happy to have a home! Go get your own Oreo today!

This place is amazing and has really awesome events. Also, to anyone who says "they put the dogs down instead of adopting them" they only do that if an animal has been there for a long time, not enough room, or too is sick. Definitely recommend!!!

This is one of the best shelters I have ever seen. The staff was super friendly, there were rooms to meet and spend time with a prospective adoptee, and the community seemed to be supporting the shelter very well. The adoption process was very smooth, and came with a lot of helpful advice and support to start off the care for your new family member. Sacramento's SPCA is the best place to go if you are looking to enrich your family :)

After reading some of these negative reviews I had to post with my own experiences with this organization. I worked for the Sacramento SPCA for a time so know what it looks like from the OTHER side of desk. First of all, the SPCA does not euthanize adoptable animals. They've had dogs there for over a year before they were adopted but so long as they were healthy and not dangerous, they were lovingly cared for by the staff and the host of volunteers.

The staff is overworked and underpaid, but do their jobs for the love of animals. The job is VERY overwhelming sometimes. You work like an insane person all day, the phone messages pile up, and then you see posts online about how you don't care. Many of the staff literally take their work home with them, fostering animals until they're ready for adoption. At this minute there's probably an SPCA employee or volunteer hand-feeding an abandoned kitten.

And the hardest job of all is euthanizing animals. The people who do that job need counseling because it's so devastating emotionally. But if nobody was willing to do it, Sacramento would have sick or dangerous dogs either wandering the streets, or piling up in shelters until there is no room for healthy, adoptable dogs.

I feel bad for people who've had bad experiences, but every organization has an occasional bad employee -- or a good one having a bad day. Before working there I interacted with the organization as a client many times and always had very good experiences. Luckily that's the case for most people.

if you cannot find a home for a cat and all out of options and cannot keep it, you can make a surrender appointment [a month in advance] and for $50 they will proceed with adoption so long as the cat passes the observation period without being overly aggressive. sad to have to get to this option but cat has a chance for a home.

I dont know why the girls that work there are rude and direct. i was just there looking for a cat because i had a miscarriage and needed a new friend. Always acting like there in such a rush. Not good. Have full attention to people who wanna adopt.

I had to put my pup Cisco down yesterday. I just want to thank you for treating my pup like he was yours. This was a really hard thing to do, but he went quickly. The men who were there with me were both gentle and kind and most definitely loving. You can see and feel the emotion in the room. I know a lot of people out there don't believe in euthanasia, but Cisco went so peaceful. He was in no more pain. Thank you.

we got our amazing Golden Retriever mix from them and the actual employees were good and very helpful, but..... the Volunteer who took us to meet our new dog was HORRIBLE AND RUDE !! She rushed us and did not give us some space and time to greet and get to meet our dog, she told us that we could not go to a room to meet him in a more persona way because she was very busy to keep going back and forth , they tool us to the back area with the dog cages outside and our dog was so scared and had so much stimulation going on we couldnt really get to know each other, and that kind of ruined our experience, but we still adopted him and we are so happy we did. The employees were nice and very informative and took their time and patience to make our adoption a smooth transition.

If you are looking for the love of an animal, this is the place to be. No matter who you are, an animal here will love you it's whole life. An animal here NEEDS you. I once found a 2 yr old Chow/Terrier and she lived with me for 16 yrs. She past at 18. Incredible. Although I still have other dogs and cats( and a reptile) , I carry that dogs' essence and memory with me every day. Every day. Get love, be loved!

Begging for money for stolen well taken care of rabbits and charging a 'care fee' for THOUSANDS when their 'care' includes seperating day old kits from mothers and causing so much stress that over 20 have died. They have no business holding these rabbits when they can't properly care for them. Encouraging people to donate and pay for spays and neuters that they're not legally allowed to do. They've destroyed someone's life and have stolen literally thousands of dollars worth of top quality well bred rabbits.

The SSPCA was established 1894 and is dedicated to ensuring the humane treatment of all animals in the Sacramento area. They provide a safe and nurturing environment for unwanted, abandoned and mistreated pets until they can be placed into loving homes. Through proactive intervention, public education and community outreach, the Sacramento SPCA seeks to promote respect for all life by breaking the cycle of abuse, neglect and pet overpopulation in our communities.

The Sacramento SPCA is a local, independent non-profit organization and is supported through private contributions. What a great org helping the community on a daily basis!

The service is absolutely horrible would not let you touch the dog unless your going to adopt it. They ask for valuble info just for you to see the animal. They personally check if your apartment or housing situation has a certain weight limit for the dog and this all just to pet the dog to see if u will even like him/her. Need a better policy. Overall good selection of dogs

We went to SPCA to find a dog in late January. We adopted our dog Tommy, he was the best pick for our family. I loved the staff and caring people there to help us with the paperwork. At least we didnt feel like we were a burden to them. We asked questions and they told us everything they had recorded. He came home with us and needless to say, he is our spoiled little baby.
Thank you SPCA for all that you do, you are amazing people.
