Food is just ok and this is coming from a true Southern Girl. I've had better Shrimp and Grits and fried chicken at home. The service was slow, but pleasant. The servers were polite and friendly. The temp. of the food could have been hotter, but our overall experience was good. The best dish was the mac and cheese.

Renowned restaurant n the center of harlem. History says it's a great place 2 eat, having ben visited by president Obama. Maybe it was a bad day cuz ive heard nothing but gud about the place. Service was very slow & poor. Food was cold. I was extremely dissatisfied & disapointed.
Five stars in every sense. Best place around Malcom X Av. Good quality food at an acceptable cost. Dress code not required, although everyone inside keeps a high and smart casual level. Service is great and bartenders are kind at all times. Downstairs there is a jazz club, Ginny s, (afternoons) and after midnight becomes a nightclub. Keep in mind that RR and Ginny s are considered different places, and reservations must be done separately. Entrees and appetizers are cheap and have good quantity. Main courses are delicious and are the best choice for each. If I ever go to Harlem again, I ll totally go again to this place, at least to see if it still keeps the good vibes and level.
Food was great but lost a star for service. She wasn t around when we were trying to order, and we were out of water for a long time on a very sunny, warm patio
Loved the eclectic atmosphere. Service was spotty.Food was very good, but super expensive for a low income area. A couple streets over you have low income housing with drug dealers hanging out on the corner. It's the kind of restaurant you would find in Manhattan. If you take the Subway you will have to endure this on your walk, so if you don't want to have to do this you may want to take an Uber.
This is going to be a regular stop for me. The vibe at this place is one of a kind. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The flavors from the kitchen are delicious. I would recommend stopping by and giving them a try. Also, I want whatever playlist they are playing. Love the choice in music.
Went to RR about two weeks ago with 4 others. I soo wanted to luv this place... I was so excited to partake. The decor, music and vibe were so on point. Unfortunately, I/we were not satisfied with the food. I didn't have a problem with the seasoning on the mac n greens, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, jerk chicken or wings. But others said the food was salty, especially the ribs. I did have issue with the mac n greens initially being served without the greens, being served luke warm mashed potatoes and gravy and then scorched gravy. While the crispy skin salmon was tasty, the complete meal left a lot to be desired. It was served in a little broth with about 5 pieces of chopped wilted greens. The staff was friendly. An unsolicited manager stopped at our table and inquired about our experiences and insisted our issues were rectified, which made a big difference in our experience and improved or mood. All in all, the food was just okay and I would probably return for drinks, apps and music.
Club was only Ok, all the fun and good time was due to friends and family at party with me. We gave the party "Life". So I'll give it 5 stars. This would of happened anywhere in NY we decided to go.
This is by far my FAVORITE restaurant. I'm from LA but I come back to The House once a year :). Can never go wrong with the scallops and korobuta pork with pomegranate sauce. We also tried their special, Alaskan halibut with creamy truffle sauce. Definitely one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. Their persimmon pudding was also delicious. A must try :)
What a place! The second we walked through the door you could feel the atmosphere was jumping, everyone having a great time. The food was amazing, the music was on point and the staff very helpful. We would love to come again (visiting from Liverpool UK)
Had an AMAZING time at Red Rooster!!! The vybe is intoxicatingly chill and it's diverse. The staff is attentive and swift. Idefinitely plan on going back to patronize this establishment.
Awesome food, the servers and bar staff were on point...they made suggestions and recommendations and I was not disappointed...Chef Marcus even stopped in and he took pictures with the customers....I will definitely be back there soon....
The music, entertainment, and the service were excellent. The food, in general, was good but one of our orders of ribs and the mac-n-cheese were over cooked.
Love! I tasted "just" the pancake (but rather generous size) for Sunday brunch ... I would say delicious! The place is very very nice and the staff is really nice. Table reservation required a few days before.
It was the worst. it was a waste of my time. I had to wait for an hour an a half to be seated and we were forced to be seated with a group of other people - shoulder to shoulder . That I did not like at all . We bought the Seafood jumabalaya $75. 00 plate and it was a mess the fish was fried to hard. The rice was like mashed potatoes but black. At first, I thought it was kale. I thought i would vomit in my plate. I know it would not be good when i seen the girl next to me food with all the oil at the bottom of her plate from chicken and what I think was greens. I would never eat there again
I have been wanting to try Red Rooster for a long time, and when it finally happened it didn't disappoint! Very nice place, good service and outstanding food! Mama's Breakfast Pie was delicious!
Went here to celebrate my birthday. The food and drinks were good but definitely overpriced. The service was excellent!!!! The atmosphere was pretty hip and loud but definitely enjoyable.
My first time being at Red Rooster even though I ve lived in NYC for many years. Loved sitting outside with the live dj, and service overall was great. I came on a Thursday night around 6:15pm and it wasn t packed- but I did have a reservation! They do a great job with separating / social distancing the tables, the menu is online, and you have the option for contactless payment at the end.
Food was delicious: fried drumstick, mac n cheese with greens, cornbread, guacamole with fritters (I think!), and deviled eggs. Drinks are priced like any other NYC place (about $13-16 per drink) and are normal / no complaints but nothing to rave about either.
I took my one cornbread sliver to go (among other food) and they gave me a bunch of the butter that goes with the cornbread!! They were not being stingy. Haha it s the little stuff that can make my day.
Fun space for brunch. This place is good when you want some comfort food you won't make at home (mainly because no one would put that much creme fraiche in eggs themselves). Definitely worth a try if you can snag a table. Try going before noon on a Sunday.
This Harlem dining destination is home to Chef Marcus Samuelsson. He lives in the neighborhood and the menu shows a clear nod to the prevalence of soul food as a prime cuisine.
The menu offers an array of wonderfully prepared and presented dishes. My preference is the perfectly fried chicken and waffles. It is served with a chicken liver butter that is shockingly addictive.
The food was great. Our waitress had great customer service. My issue was My girlfriend and I are pretty sure that the cooks forgot our order. There was only two of us and I never complain about wait times but when a family of seven walks in 15 minutes after you and gets their order first.... something's up. We also noticed the bus boys would bring out orders to the patio looking extremely confused. If I didn't speak up about our corn bread I don't know if I would've got it. We were pretty sure the owner or manager came out to talk to us when the food was taking long. She was nice but, was just out there to reassure "it's coming". No apologies nor offered for something to be comped. Our waitress did apologize when we got our bill. I would try them again when I visit NYC hopefully on a better day.
My husband and I have been following Marcus Samuelson since he was a chopped chef, and the food experience overall was splendid. We got the hot honey yard bird. The chicken was tender, well seasoned and a touch of sweet. You could really tell they put a lot of thought and love into their dish and the result reflected just that. I'd definitely go again.
Food is extremely mediocre Service was okay Drinks were above average. Prices were average
I ordered block party ribs with rice. Rice was cold, ribs were luke warm. Ribs were very fatty, no flavor in the meat, just in the barbeque sauce used. Decent sized portions btw... I also order mac and greens...which was better. Very tasty, cheese was very thick and all at the top, which was a little weird. Service was okay. Fast (no way they made that food fresh in 10 minutes).
Overall, this place has extraordinary marketing with subpar food. Famous people from all over the world have been here. The decor is very nice and if you're looking to go, just to say "I've been to Red Rooster when I visited Harlem..." then enjoy because you will not enjoy good food.
If you're actually looking to get good food, research to find some better places. You can always grab drinks here when you're done. (If you're up for a trip, try Rarebar in midtown. Amazing food, huge portions, great drinks at an excellent price point you would not expect.)
*Note: It's a common trend now to find subpar food in Harlem at higher than midtown prices. You'll be surprised to find many bars in Harlem serving decent food with extended menus.
Sunday Brunch - the rum punch is delicious. Chicken and biscuits had great flavor, but the biscuit was hard as a rock. I had the collard greens/ mac & cheese. The cheese on top was very good, but not much greens. The cornbread was good. We would go back for the ambiance. One complaint - add more umbrellas on the patio.
We are at the end of the year dinner. It is a closed menu at a high price. We started dinner in 2019 an hour later than we had booked. In 2020 we are still waiting for the main course when other tables that entered after we have already been able to eat it. Bad very bad. The food is not very good, besides the dishes do not have the ingredients that it says on the menu or they have changed it for another ... well, I recommend not going in a special event, it is more we will not return.
I have watched Marcus since back in the day and was a but disappointed in the quality. We had shrimp and dirty rice -- it was a bit oily/grease. I had the sandwich for the day--it was ham paired with aged cheddar and it was salty. My husband had dirty bird chicken sandwich and he stated it was too salty. The ambience was very nice and service was on par.
I had the honor of sitting at the chefs table and sampling many many delicious items. Not only is the menu diverse and exquisite, the staff and decor are as well. This was one of the greatest restaurant experiences I've ever had. Thank you Marcus! Oh try the chicken and waffles, mac and cheese, ribs, cornbread and apple butter and donuts. Dear Lord the donuts...
Very nice atmosphere. Food was good as well as the service. Music and staff was amazing. Wish I could think of another adjective right now, but the drinks were too strong.
Chicken and waffles that is simply the best. The corn bread is a must. Get the Hot Honey Chicken. The Roasted Cauliflower with Shrimp is terrific, too.
The food in this Marcus Samuelsson restaurant is impressive. Most of the dishes are stick-to-your-ribs yummy and incredibly flavorful. The service is wonderful; every single staff member that I've interacted with has been very friendly. I love how the decor is casual and colorful; it feels as though only the food is being used to speak to the upscale nature of this restaurant. I will definitely return for another meal here in the future.
I was incredibly impressed by the service at Red Rooster. A friend and I walked in on a Friday night and in a stroke of great serendipity, they found us some space at a table! Even though we were clearly not big spenders (and were surrounded by folks who likely were) the staff were attentive, organized, and utterly on top of their game. The hostess, our waiter, the runners, and the manager were clearly working together seamlessly. When my dining companion asked about details of food preparation, including what kind of oil the fries were cooked in, our waiter was knowledgeable, respectful, and efficient. He asked pertinent questions that made it clear he was determined to get a great meal on the table that she could enjoy without any worries. It was a delightful experience.
A 5 star experience in Harlem. The bar is good. But the restaurant is awesome. Not only a touristic attraction but the kitchen is worth to dine. We chose for two chicken-kale-waffle and shrimp. They both were awesome. And also 5 star contemporary staff ( bartender, dj and wellcome hostess) are unique characters... We had a great experience. Dont miss
After watching a few Bon Appetit videos featuring Marcus, I added this place to my places to visit list (back in Dec. '18). Our table shared a handful of brunch items, and it did not disappoint. Worth a visit!
had one of the best nights of my life here. the atmosphere and performances were absolutely AMAZING. we even got to meet the chef/owner of the resto and he was very gracious. food was also delicious. by far my favourite part of visiting new york
