We recently took guests to the Roof at theWit in Chicago. We had a nice evening with great music, drinks and food. Upon finishing our meal, the waitress apologized for handing our credit card over to another customer who already left the building. They suggested we cancel our card, apologized again and offered to purchase a round of drinks. That simply isn't acceptable. As guests in the hotel, we should have been accommodated differently for the inconvenience of having to cancel a card while traveling out of town.

There is nothing wrong with this place at all. The rooftop is cool and has some decent city views. However, there are better views for better (drink) prices at other Rooftops. Could not go wrong going here though!

First off my sister and I booked the hotel for the sole purpose of attending this nightclub for my sisters 23rd birthday. Buying MULTIPLE drinks for my sister and I in celebration of her birthday the bartender kept speaking under his tongue talking negative about us. (although I did tip him couple dollars per every few drinks) . Lastly as the night went on the price of 2 cranberry vodkas increased from $20 to $22 to $28.00 and I asked what the reason being and he made an excuse saying he assumed I just wanted the more expensive vodka when I've been drinking the same one all night. I realized the people next to me were also experiencing this HORRIBLE customer service. The same bartender with the sleeve tattoo kept slamming the bottles when making the drinks and using sarcasm when talking to the customers. Every other bartender was nice and happy to serve except him .

We ended up leaving to another club which is super upsetting as we booked this hotel ONLY for this venue. VERY UPSET. WILL NOT RETURN.

Called for an reservation 3 days before going to visit the Wit. When I called I had to leave a message (not a problem). The hostess called back within 30 mins. When talking to her I told her I was calling to make an reservation to come and have a few drinks. She quickly stated I didn't need one for the bar area. When arriving to the Wit (standing in line for 40 mins) the bouncer outside the door (VERY RUDE) said we couldn't get in, due to us not having an reservation. When I said they hostess said we didn't need one. He reply and said "That's not my problem!". Then a few mins later he said we had to wait until people came out. On the other side of the building people where coming out left and right. Then 10 mins later he came back out and said it was at the overcapacity. Very upset we left and took out money to the Godfrey!!!

Some friends and I visited the Rooftop on 1 Nov 20...

Some friends and I visited the Rooftop on 1 Nov 2015 @ 1244 am. We were in Chicago for the weekend and we're told several times to go to the Rooftop. We went and decided to purchase a VIP package so we would not have to wait in the line. The two guys at the door were very professional and allowed us to purchase the package. Everything went well until the DJ cut on the lights. Usually when this happens it means last song is being played. I decided to use the bathroom before departing. On my way, I was stopped by an employee. There was a rope blocking the walkway to the entrance of the bathroom. I told the guy I needed to use the bathroom. He told me the bathroom was closed. I replied with "are you serious". I really needed to use the ladies room before I departed the Wit Hotel. I asked the employee if there was a restroom available downstairs on the way out. He stated that he was unsure. At this point I am beginning to become very frustrated. I tell him I needed to see his manager. He says ok and calls over the radio for the manager. The manager comes over I explain the same thing I explained to the employee. I'm a little upset so of course iam emotional. The manager walked away. I yelled that I'd already paid $267.00 to sit and couldn't use the bathroom. Regardless of what paid, I was a patron, utilizing their services and should've been allowed to use the restroom before departing. I made the comment of being an active duty member, serving my country and not getting treated like a regular citizen. As I am standing there a lady walks up to use the bathroom and the employee lets her through. I asked why is she allowed and says she is manager's wife. I then walk through after her to use the restroom. The manager tells them to let me through even though he did not want me to. As I am using the bathroom I can hear the manager saying $200 is nothing to spend, people $2000 here and so what she's in the military, I am a veteran. Fiercely angered I reponded back to him, finished using the restroom. As I was leaving I heard someone say to the managers wife that she'd started trouble and she said she didn't mean to to some degree. I gathered my things and left. In my 19.5 years of serving and as a Senior Non Commissioned Officer, woman, and human being I have never felt violated and disrespected to that level. The manager was unprofessional and did a horrible job of representing his company and providing good customer service. I WILL NEVER VISIT THE ROOFTOP AT THE WIT OR REFER ANY OF MY ASSOCIATES, COWORKERS OR FRIENDS who will visit the Chicago area.

This was my go to bar when we have an amazing weather. Amazing drinks and atmosphere. Expect long lines on Friday or Saturday. Also expect a cover. Music is by far my favorite part along with dancers that keep the place alive. Space is big and have the city views on there side of the building.

Nice atmospheric, we went on a Tuesday in a group of six. Bar was not busy yet it took us 45minutes to get drinks. 20 just to order them as waitress lost our order. Outdoor rooftop patio closes at 12.

This place used to be very fun before they got the tables in the middle. The music and atmosphere is nice. You can check in your coat downstairs at the front desk. The only horrible thing is the people downstairs side door. They kinda treat you like sh..t. Stay against the wall, come here, stay there, like omg we are checking in criminals. They "sometime" make you wait a looot downstairs, to make you think that omg it's so full up there. B.s. you get up there and it's so boring and not a lot of people lol.

I just tried it out and I don't think it's a casual spot you can go with friends. Most of the people here are hip and dressed very nice. The drinks are expensive and the atmosphere is very pretentious.

I feel like this place is a bit over-rated. Yes, the view is nice but there are so many other places in Chicago with better views. Also their drinks are super expensive and not even that great. People there seemed snobish and shallow.

One of my new favorites in town, nothing we had was a disappointment. Bacon jam with homemade bread, panzanella with Brussels, and our favorite appetizer, the naan with beets, sumac vinegrette and feta (amazing and unexpected flavor combination) started us off. We then enjoyed the duck egg fettuccine, saffron spaghetti and trout. Will be back for sure.

Great venue. Food was on par with what you'd expect of a place like this. Service was a bit strange, we had three different waitresses and two were very friendly and one was rude. It was a Saturday night when I was there so it was a good time with the DJ, although I thought the place would be busier than it was.

This is a great place for young professionals and happy hour. Awesome views of the city. Cocktails are great (and over priced if you are not accustomed to the prices of city living). They serve food, but it is small plates or tapas style. In the late evening it is definitely more of a club vibe and you may have to wait in line to enter.

Amazing bar, great environment. Unlike anywhere else in Chicago. Two separate bars, lounging areas. Great service. TV's showed physcadelic, amorphic designs along with the music. Would recommend.

This place is a great place for those 21+!! It was like a utopia where everyone was mature and well dressed. Although it was pretty nice with a good looking stuff, it was expensive which is not a casual place to eat!! I would like to come back here when I go on a leave from the Army with all my battle buddies!! This place is top-notch and would definitely come back another day!!

I gave one star only because that's the only way I could leave this review. I had an event at the Wit this past Saturday and was suppose to celebrate at the rooftop that evening after my event, well that didn't happen. Before planning my event I made a reservation at the hotel for the rooftop and asked if guest at the hotel would be able to attend the roof and not be apart of my reservation if they wanted to, which I was told they could at a fee for men and another fee for women. I spent a nice amount on my wedding anniversary there and a room block of about 20 rooms. So I brought in a nice amount to this establishment. When the manager of the roof notice how many people were trying to attend the rooftop from my party, mind you these were guest of the hotel, I was told they would have to be added to my reservation at a rate of $75 per person, even though a worker told them they wouldn't have to pay because they were guest and it was based on first come first served but standing room only. The manager and the district manager have terrible customer service and attitudes. The manager told me that he couldn't accommodate more than 30 of my guest because he had a brand to protect and elite clientele. I'm not sure what you would be protecting, maybe too many African Americans in your roof top! I definitely didn't want to celebrate and provide anymore money to this establishment so I didn't attend the roof top that evening! I even reached out to the email that the person who responds to these emails here on yelp sent before writing this review and never got a response. When I contacted the district manager Ryan Kingston, he was just as rude as the manager of the roof Blaire was and very condescending. He wanted to explain to me how this rooftop is one of the best and the awards they've won, which doesn't matter at all if you can't have customer service friendly people welcoming everyone who walks through those doors. Go somewhere where you'll be treated nicely and not like you owe them something to be in their presence. We as a people need to stop giving establishments like this our hard earned money and let them stick to their elite clientele and people who are accepted by their "brand" and the district manager stated there was nothing wrong with those comments stated! There are other rooftops go some place else!

The atmosphere is super cool and the drinks were strong but our server was not the least bit good. I'm not too hard on people in regards to this because I've been there...but we asked for extra limes in our drinks and didn't receive any. Nor did we get straws in our mixed drinks. I had to go to the bar to get them myself. We were hungry and wanted food but was never asked if we would like to order and by the time she came back around we had to get going. The bartenders were great the first time we were there and weren't seated and just hung around the bar. Would go back but would not get table.

Horrible service! Messed up our bill and tried to overcharge us when we had a reservation a whole month before we attended! Very rude bouncers and customer service! Definitely take your money somewhere else! Definitely not worth the hassle! You can take your money else where for a better experience of Chicago's rooftop bars.

FRONT DESK WORKERS WERE HORRIBLE. So rude to me. Usually the only point of contact between the person staying at the hotel and the hotel itself is the receptionist. And both I dealt with were horrible. So rude. So mean. Not helpful at all. If your a hotel receptionist your attitude should be on point every day all day. Your basically the front line for the experience. Absolutely aggravating with the way they treated me.

Some friends and I stopped in on a weeknight based on the recommendation of my brother. We had a great time, and I was ready to recommend ROOF to more friends and family. The next time I checked my credit card statement I found that lounge bartender Donny G rang in a tip that was two and a half times more than what I wrote on the merchant copy. If you're going to visit ROOF I recommend paying cash.

Expectations were built by $20 cover fee and multiple lines (a plus), only to be disappointed by the closed rooftop on a cozy summer night. Loud and electric. Poor taste and cheap furniture: those hideous houndstooth sofas need to go. Bar service is fast. A popular spot for corporate events.

Wanted to show my little boy the view from up here at around 5pm and was informed they don't allow kids there. However they clearly state children are allowed before 7 on the website. Bouncer declined to give me his name when I inquired and told me to talk to his boss Curtis.... ridiculous when we stay in this hotel...

Without a doubt the best rooftop views of the city. Come early as a line forms quickly, but once you are up there you will see that it is worth it. The lines move quickly, and once up there, the service is second to none.

Worst bartender ever. With a couple of friends, we arrived at the bar at 6.50pm, the "happy hours" menus were still hanging on the bar, we grabbed them and decided what we want. Although we were right in front of him and next in line, the bartender completely ignored us and served first two other groups of people that arrived after us and were completely on the side. He took our orders around 7pm and was slow to serve us. When he handed us the checks, the amount did not include the happy hour discount. We asked the waiter why: "Sorry folks, it is 7.10pm, happy hour is over". Although I protested and explained him he took other orders first by mistake, and that we should have had the discounts, he told us he couldn't do anything. First time in my life I left a $0 tip. I will never go back to a place which cautions this type of behavior and discriminates foreigners.

* Update from 1 star to 3 stars *
The management of the ROOF reached out to me, and offered an appology. I appreciate the gesture, hence the upgraded rating.
