I started the call third in line with an estimated wait time of 3 minutes. One hour and forty seven minutes later after changing the wait time 10-12 times it had somehow changed to over an hour. That about sums up this place.

EDIT: After receiving my license, I've noticed that they did not transfer my morotcycle endorsement. I had two transfer forms filled out correctly, M/C checked on both and told her I had a motorcycle endorsement but she still couldn't get it right. I have a feeling I will have to go back, stand in line, wait hours and then argue about the issue. They took my license and I imagine sent it back to New Hampshire, so I have no proof that I had a motorcycle endorsement. I fear I'll have to jump through hoops and end up taking the motorcycle test over. I've downgraded my review from three stars to one. These people have a very simple job and can't get it right.

No one wants to go to the RMV or DMV in any town of any state ever.

First, compared to the five or so other DMV's I've been to this one is at least no worse. The wait time was longer than I'm used to, but unlike any other DMV in any other state I've lived in, they gave you a number and you got to sit and wait instead of waiting in a long line. The staff we dealt with was really nice. Maybe it was because it's Friday. The building, however, is a horror story. My girlfriend reported that the bathroom sink did not function and was full of trash. There is an armed guard. You are greeted by a small pack of smokers in front of the main entrance. There are crazy old people who don't understand that the ticket the nice man at the front of the first line you stood in has a number assigned to you and you have to wait your turn. There is a road test instructor who takes his job far too serious. And we were the people with the antsy, sometimes crying toddler. I did not have the option to schedule an appointment since they don't do appointments on Monday or Friday. Wait time on Friday afternoon at 2 was 1.25 hours. The bottom of the ticket has the estimated wait time. If I had to do it again, I would have believed in the wait time estimate and gone for a nice family walk for a while to burn time. At least the people were nice this time around.

Pretty easy to deal with, usually someone standing at the door when you walk in to ask what you're there to do. They'll give you the forms, fill them out, go back, and you'll go into line. Best to have all your paperwork and proper ID before you even drive down to avoid wasting time.

Like the new place which is nicer and bigger than the last location but why is the wait time over an hour or two for everyone? They need more staff because that long of a wait time is ridiculous.

Google directions very good. Today, a lovely weather day, people were outside readily available to help. We loved the table specifically set aside for seniors. We were quite pleased with all the registry people we spoke with; polite, cheerful, and knowledgeable.
The RMV web site is a different story, and the phone line is worse than useless.

So I m trying to get my title and registration taken care of and I call at 9am when it says they open. 206 people ahead of me in line wait time over an hour okay no problem I ll be patient and wait on the phone. 30 minutes go by still 206 people only phone the call to hang up. I called back at least 6 times today only for the call to continue ending for now reason. And I can t blame my service because a friend of mine tried calling for me and the same thing happened to her. Why does this have to happen today?

extremely disrespectful staff with nasty attitudes that talk over you and attempts to belittle you. Even the supervisor, Edd is no help. Absolutely no control over employee sherry, and watched as she rudely interrupted me time and time again.HIGHLY disappointed.

I went when hardly anyone was there so that's a plus, lol. However for those of us that need to take the vision test...can the machine we have to put our face on be wiped down after every use or at least have wipes next to it so ppl can clean it off. When I went it was absolutely disgusting.

Went here to get car registered that I bought from my mom. My mom went in and the lady that helped her was rude and said I filled out the price incorrectly and mistook a comma for a 1.. telling my mom I had to get it notarized. I go back in there and I got a different person who saw it was clearly a comma and there was no issue with the paperwork and was able to get plates & car registered. I guess it depends on who you get to help you.

Also if you make an app they still make you wait outside before you can go in.

Back in February driving back home from my new job...

Back in February driving back home from my new job in Oxford had to get from route 20 to highway 84 in Sturbridge and then jump on pike 90. Being a novice in the area and thinking that highway 84 has a normal speed limit of 65 (next day I checked the same route to specifically see if they have any signs that says 50mph and there WERE NONE from the route 20 exit all the way to mass-pike 90 exit ) and trying to get in the flow of traffic I sped up a little, according to the police officer 75 who gave me a $260 ticket.
I went to a hearing with a magistrate to court and he still found me responsible, but because it was my first ticket in 12 years since I got my driving license he lowered the fee to $100. I was given a period of 20 days to pay this amount. My wife sent the check in the same day of $100.
Then I get two suspension of license letters, with different Numbers, in the same day issued in the same day from RMV, one saying my driving license will be suspended on one day May 23 and the other letter saying it will be suspended on June. One letter was a little more explicit than the other saying I did not pay in time my ticket and they gave me a late fee of $70 on top of $100. I went right away and checked my bank account and sure enough the Mass Dot had withdrawn $100 check we sent to them. I did noticed that they had withdrawn the check 3 days later after they sent the letters.
I tried to call the RMV but without any luck, first day I spent 2 hours waiting on the phone and after 2 hours it just got interrupted. Second day I called early in the morning hoping it will be better and called right when they open at 9AM, after 50min a lady picked up the phene and asked me my name, then hanged the phone on me. I tried again next day and again after 2 hours the call was interrupted.
I decided to go to Springfield MA RMV branch. First day after I explained my problem to Customer Care representative, who was completely uninterested in my problem and couldn't wait to ball me to a hearing officer next day, said you have to see a hearing officer .
Next day I came at 8AM, one hour earlier than the RMV opens at 9AM, and already there were around 50 people in front of me, by the time they opened at 9:20AM because of a difficulty in the system there were more than 100 people behind me. There were mothers with infants and small children in line too, and that is just sad, they should get a special fast pass so they do not torture the kids and themselves, I think RMV can do better than this! So I finally got inside and the officer that was handing the applications and tickets for the hearing officer did not have enough tickets for the poor people that were behind me, maybe another 10 people behind me got inside the rest were turned back after all the waiting.
4 of waiting after 12PM, hearing officer said that the reason I got that late fee is because she does not see in the system the document from the court hearing that I had where they lowered the amount from $260 to $100, and I have to get a document from the court to prove this and it is the court problem they did not send it over to RMV.
The problem is that they sent me the suspension letters first and then had they withdrawn the $100 amount 3 days later, and that was past the 20 days frame I was given by the court.
I went home and called the court right away and the nice representative responded instantly, and I explained the situation. He mentioned that the RMV had an upgrade of the system and it is their problem that they did not get the hearing document where it was stated the lowering of amount from &260 to $100.
Next day with the hearing document from the court I went again to the RMV, after 2.5 hours in both lines the citation lady that was seeing me got confused but was thinking logically and better than the hearing officer, went in the back room to see her manager I guess, and after 10 min returned and said you are all set .
I think RMV can do better to deal with their customers...

Awesome Experience!!! Wasn't sure if I'could get my business taken care of with only arriving minutes before closing on a Friday. Was greeted with a smile at 4:54pm and directed to the correct line for what I needed. Got to the agent (at 5:17pm) and realized I needed RMV form from my insurance company! Ugh I stepped aside, called my insurance and had them email it to me with only 1% left on my phone. (A kind lady waiting overheard and offered me hers if mine died .) The helpful Security staff assisted me in signing in to my email on THEIR customer computer so that I could print the form. Again once back in line (5:32pm) was again greeted politely, I apologized for the delay,. She said, "Its okay. I'm glad you were able to get your form." As I was there I watched person after person who needed assistance be helped in the kindest manner and those who needed an ATM be kindly directed to Spfld Plaza as there is no ATM so bring cash or check. Much Kudos to the employees and security at Spfld RMV!!! Thank you for making a chaotic day end so well!
10 Experience!

Getting an out of state license transferred to MA ...

Getting an out of state license transferred to MA in the time of COVID has been a real saga. Everybody at this outpost of the RMV, from the security guard to the clerk to the manager, has been extremely helpful in the process and now I am officially licensed in Massachusetts. A great time was had by all.

My experience registering new car:

My experience registering new car:
Day 1 - Arrive around noon, have all the forms, waiting for my ticket to be called. An hour and twenty minutes waiting the registry goes down nation-wide. I leave

Day 2 - Arrive around 11:30am, have all the forms ready, just get a ticket and wait to be called. Around 1:45pm they call my ticket. Because they had 3 registry people but I guess 2 went on break and an old man held up the 3rd window for a good 30 minutes. It shouldn't take 2 hours to get through about 23 tickets. I was at the window with the agent no more than 3-4 minutes! Around 1:52pm I leave the RMV with my new registry and ready to put the new plates on my car.

Road test lady came out of building (short, latina, late 50's with graying curly hair) and screamed at me across the parking lot. I had just gotten out of my car when she started yelling at me in front of a line of people. I tried to yell questions back to her, but she just yelled over me. Because I couldn't really hear her due to her being so far away and screaming over me, she started threatening to have me removed by the POLICE from the premises. I literally did nothing to deserve being threatened with police removal. Apparently, I parked in the wrong spot and dared to not understand what she was saying. When I got into the building I asked to to speak to her supervisor and get her information she refused. She told me to call the RMV knowing it's impossible to get anyone on the phone. I left a note with the counter person to give to her supervisor. Surprisingly he called, but he had made up his mind before he even spoke to me. He said he had never had a complaint about the road test lady before, and security said she was nice to me in the parking lot. I pointed out that she probably hasn't had a complaint because she makes it impossible when she refuses to give out information, and that screaming at someone from a building into a parking lot and threatening them with the police is inheritantly rude. The supervisor didn't agree, and used the fact that I was upset about the situation to further dissmiss my complaint. So the service at the Springfield RMV will stay the same: filled with threats of police removal for parking infractions and angry people on power trips.

Don't know what they are doing. Everyone I that DMV is lost. Misinformation left and right. Had to visit 3 times because of missing paperwork and show up with that paperwork and then all of a sudden that paperwork is unacceptable. Nobody is helpful and just push you over. Worst one. Go to Chicopee better

I brought my girlfriend for her Driving test the Examiner his ID#EH06 was very disrespectful and scared my girlfriend. He even argued with her when he ask her a question...I was in the back seat and she did excellent and completed the course with ease...but he still failed her, He looks miserable doesn't groom, he's a rude person....I don't recommend this RMV for driving test ... My kids are coming to age and I'm definitely not bringing them to Springfield RMV..until they re-evaluate the Examiner... He's a bully..

The set-up for the road test is ridiculous and unsafe. The examiners have you park in reverse in a congested area in front of the main entrance as numerous vehicles and pedestrians are moving and walking in and out of the road-test parking area. Part of the road test is on the grounds of the RMV. The hedges on the grounds are dangerously overgrown and untrimmed sticking out into the road and obstucting vision. I'm surprised there wasn't a T-bone accident. Then you are taken into a nearby neighborhood where the residents are clearly fed up with the frontfof their homes being used as a training grounds for nervous and shaky teenaged drivers. I noticed this because a clearly agitated homeowner was actually sitting and waiting in his car as my kids car approached and he deliberately pulled out of his driveway, blocking my kid from performing as the examiner instructed. He blocked her for a good minute before moving his car and it was clearly intentional. Same with the parallel park. The neighborhood residents appeared to know their cars are being used as props in the road test. My kid became nervous when the people who owned the parked vehicle came out to watch and make sure their car wasn't going to be damaged and made it worse by almost causing a collision. Also the road where the examiner made us do the 3-point turn was smaller than a normal street and though the turn was possible, it was, but just barely.

Gotta register a new vehicle so this one in Chicopee is a drop off location. Bring all your paperwork and drop off then receive an email to pay online and set appt to pick up plates. It could take up to 4 days. 4 stars because the process isn't complete yet. But It took a bit of researching to find this out. Hope this helps anyone curious

After I wait two hour by phone to get an appointment for 9:00 a.m. to get Real ID. I went over there, made a 45 minutes line outside building and to complete, the employee ask me to go home and come back another day . I need the ID because my Driver Licence was expired, I had to travel soon bussiness things. The other employee at the window ask me the same, They dont want to work . Not everyone is grouchy mostly of them. Another Goverment agency synonymous of bad treat. We should received a courteous Customer Services because we pay for everything, is not free. Also they are ovethere to serve the community with passion and love, without customers no job for u guys. If you dont like people change your profession. I prefer Chicopee RMV.

The worst workers. They are lazy and very desrespectful. The chubby spanish girl outside with the curly hair was yelling at a senior male. I over heard her talking about how she hates white people to another co-worker. Very discusting. I would give 0 stars if I could. And I am Puerto Rican myself but I don't condone this behavior. Rude. "I heard the agawam one is better, that's where I'll be going now."

After making an appt online two weeks ago for a specific time I arrived to get on another line, first outside then inside, but it did move rather quickly and I got done what I needed to do all in one step. The wait time for the appt was two weeks tho which is kinda long.

Although my first experience about a year ago was a very satisfactory one, I still dreaded going today to register a new car. I had left some spaces blank on the RMV-1 form because I wasn't sure about the info that was being asked, so I expected there'd be problems and that I'd have to spend the better part of the day there, waits and all.
Much to my amazement when I arrived at about 11:00am, no one was on line at the screening windows, the waiting area was practically deserted, and the whole process went quickly without a hitch. By 11:15, I was out the door with my new plates.
Can't say enough good things about how friendly and helpful every staff person was. This is government at its best.
Just wish the RMV forms were as user -friendly as the Springfield personnel are.

Don't go to this place for road test. The test officer looked mean, had very bad tempers, and definitely not helpful. The officer on the day I went to for a road test behaved like a cop and looked at and spoke to you like a criminal. The guy failed 3 drivers in less than 10 minutes.

New office, clean, nice, organized, great staff! I know it sounds crazy, but it's true! We were pointed to the right direction, helped in a nice way and we're done in less than 20 minutes! Keep it up Springfield! Much better than 3 years ago!

well I give them five stars because they deserve it Asuna I went in the young men and the front he was very polite and he helped me what the application to get my ID the security guard he was very nice to help me and some stuff that I was confused and then when I went to the ladies in the next window there were also very polite and nice and then when I win 22 she was very nice and and helpful and I don't know why people be talkin about they no? good and this and that but. you know what I was out of there within 25 minutes clean nice a lot of space you know this is a very good idea to have i ID like this because you could use it for a lot of things you know also the birth certificate I'm tide I'm changing my birth certificate but it's good now because people cannot use your birth certificate people and I'm not going to say what race they know who they are Day by birth certificate social security and they'd be working in this country with somebody else name and next thing you know they get arrested and you have a felony in you and your name and you're even know but it's good good that the new birth certificate is good. but other than that people that talk about this motor vehicle did the people no good they are very wrong wrong

Although the new St. James Ave location is cleaner...

Although the new St. James Ave location is cleaner and faster, it is still peopled with the same incompetent managers. Employees are only as good as their training, and it s quite obvious that those in charge should find work flipping burgers. I placed calls several times a day over the course of three days only to have each one disconnected at some point. It s bad enough that the wait time is generally an hour, but to be forced to listen to the insipid music , static, and looping messages for an interminable length of time only to be disconnected is Kafkaesque.

Documents that I m required to fax wouldn t go through during this time (hence my repeated attempts to reach someone by phone). Reason? The line was busy! Seriously? For 3-days? And no one at the Springfield RMV noticed that the fax machine was out of paper, ink, or toner, or that it s memory was filled and wouldn t accept a fax?

Back in 2015, Erin Deveney, Registrar, said in a meeting, We no longer want the registry to be the butt of jokes. We want the registry to be the face of state government. That s when the Express Lane was instituted in several branches to alleviate the long lines. It s been nearly 2-1/2 years, yet no one in Boston has come up with an idea to improve the clusterf*^k phone answering system. Sorry, Erin, but you and your minions are still the butt of jokes. I suggest that rather than want[ing] the registry to be the face of state government that you apply yourself in making it happen. You are, after all, in charge of this SNAFU bureaucracy.

Update: I wonder, if we had a similar autonomous agency overseeing gun licenses, is it possible that gun ownership might precipitously drop overnight? Doesn t it seem rather odd to you that getting a gun license and buying as many guns as your bank account allows is considerably easier than simply getting an RMV employee to answer the phone?

Springfield MRV we make an appointment and they close at 1 pm is already 2:16 and they don t even open. And don t care about the people and is hot outside . People in wheelchairs I have high blood pressure and don t care about the people they still taking a nap awful!!

Horrible. No matter when you go, what day, what time, during work/school hours, its always horribly busy and everyone is rude. I've had one or two nice people, but a majority are eye-rolling, exasperated people that hate their job. Don't bother calling, the hold time is always over an hour. Not exaggerating. Go ANYWHERE else.

Bad service. I know I came by close to closing time but some people just have work till 3 or 4 and this is the only time possible to come by, so being extremely rude saying "it's near closing time" is ridiculous.
Also, not everyone knows the procedure or paperwork needed to do what they need to do. And repeating "you need this paper" over and over again without an explanation isn't going to help. (I understand that you can go online and check but some people get info from other people and makes mistakes sometimes)
On a side note. If you can't handle customer service politely especially if they are new or just misinformed about the process. Then don't work there.

I've been on hold for over 2hrs on the phone...and counting...all I need is the answer to 1 question which is of course not available on the website because the website has very little information. MA RMV is absolutely horrendous with it's service.

To the people who left five stars: what was the address of the RMV you want to? Because I would like to go there as well.

The supervisor was incredibly disrespectful to a pregnant woman after HE inconvenienced her and family, the driving instructor was incredibly disrespectful to multiple people who were there for HIS service, the people paying him! The security guards were inside HIDING from the people they were supposed to help. I had to help an old man to his car because they were MIA, and the security who are outside checking appointments fail to give you vital information.

If you come here: have all your ducks in a row and then some, call multiple times to cross reference the information you get from their employees, and maybe bring extra documents because I only encountered one employee at the customer service who knew what was going on.

thank you to that man.

Slow service and it will be a hit or miss with customer service. They act like they don't really care if they help you or not. The older blonde female driving instructor is defiantly one to avoid. She did not let us take the road test because she claimed the E break on the car should keep the car from moving forward while the gas is engaged past 3000 RPM... I had to call a mechanic because I don't know enough about cars... simply to be told that is not what the E break in any car is intended to do.

I did not even make it through the door. I entered a reality key helpful employee told me that their licensing services were down I allrempt to get help about other options when a short fat rent a cop decided he did not like my frustrated tone. it was that moment he decided to go on a power trip holding his gun and started to yell at me and argue with me escalating the situation. He continued in a hostel manner Refusing to answer simple question telling me to leave. Talking enough time to mock my situation rather than answer a simple question when the services I requested would be available. I have never in my life been so disgusted by an interaction.

Good experience in Springfield. I went twice, a Wed and Fri. I checked the website for wait times and on the two visits I made it was very accurate. Wed wait time was 0 mins. (I didn't even sit down!) and Fri was 10 mins. Both visits were after 4pm in last week of the month. Staff is at the door when you enter to send you to the correct line. Counter staff on both visits were very friendly.

Don t go here for a road test. The driving examiner I got was in a rush to get out and didn t care to give clear instructions. She didn t mention the route she wanted me to take or the turns until I was feet away from the stop sign and then would mark the questions for careless driving and late blinkers. Terrible experience and the driving instructor who was my sponsor agreed completely.

I check online every morning and there's never an appointment available. I've called and there always a three hour wait. Don't know what else to do . Bought a car from a dealership and can't transfer my plates over from my car. I know there are penalties for not register a car on time. #Stuck
