Redfish Seafood and Sushi Grill Review

I have 30 plus years in the restaurant business. I usually do not write reviews. However, my brothers and my experience with this establishment makes it necessary to do so.

In a scramble to get our mother taken care of for mothers day we settled on having a meal delivered to her and her husband. Their favorite seafood restaurant had recently closed and will not reopen. To make things more complicated, I live in Chicago and my brother in So Cal. My mom mentioned Red Fish Seafood Grill as being recommended by her trainer. So, we sent her a menu for them to go over and tell us what they wanted and we would have it delivered. My brother contacted the restaurant to arrange the meal. Unfortunately, some of what my mom and her husband wanted was not available on their Door Dash menu for delivery. Enter restaurant manager Shay (sp?). Shay arranged with ownership for their delivery menu to be updated in order to facilitate our mother's selections. And, thus their meal, as hoped for, accommodated and delivered.

As I mentioned earlier, i am extremely familiar with the inner workings and challenges of operating restaurants. Doing this not only goes above and beyond, it's unheard of. I cannot emphasize enough the level to which Shay and her ownership went to make our mothers special day very special.

One saying oft pontificated by restaurant operators is to have, "a genuine concern for the guest". Few, are willing to actually follow through though. This establishment is and did. They have earned our mother's loyalty. Even if she hadn't, "absolutely loved the food", she would frequent this establishment. She has found her new favorite restaurant. My brother and i are excited to visit as soon as we are in town. I suggest those of you in the area do so as well.

This is my all time favorite restaurant. My husband and I are regulars. The dishes are beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The service cannot be beat. HIGHLY recommend to any seafood lover!

Eat here once a week for lunch. Sushi is great. Service is great as well.

First visit in a few years and was pleasant surprise. Three of us for lunch and all were happy with their meal. One person was a non-fish eater who really enjoyed her chicken dish. Service was very good as well.

Good food and high priced atmosphere. Showy. The food is worth 75% of the price in my personal opinion. Ribeye at a seafood place? Yes. Cooked well, but the cuts of meat did not impress. Good shrimp, all served fancy. Want to show off for a date? This is your place. Aquariums, and candlelight atmosphere. Friendly owner, very charismatic.

I visit here very often because the sushi is always fresh and I get good service.
It is not too far from my house and after trying other places I always come back here.
I usually order the Sashimi combo plate so I can have both Sushi and Sashimi, and it is a good variety.

I'm a little bit surprised at how uninvolved the owners/managers are when they are present, which might explain why after so many years of coming here I'm still not recognized.
I'm used to owners of restaurants of this caliber usually roaming the floor chatting with guests and paying a little extra attention to their regulars.
Something simple as this makes people want to revisit and visit more often.

Went on a Saturday afternoon around 530. Anytime after 6 you pretty much need a reservation. Place fills up quick

David and his wife are fantastic hosts for a fantastic dinner. They always make you feel like family. You gotta try it, I'm telling you.

Food is good - but for lunch they didn t get our food out for 45 mins - we had to go back to work and couldn t wait for food - then we waited for another 10 minutes for the awful manager to comp the meals and he didn t spoke a single word to us (no apology)

The food was extremely good and the drinks were too. I was taken back by the hand painted walls because they had caucasians as well as asians but no African Americans on them.

my dad's been talking about going to this place since I moved here a few years ago. Finally took him for his birthday. The downstairs was really crowded and I felt bad for the family stuck right next to the front door. We sat upstairs and ordered drinks, which were good. Mom and Dad took the waiters suggestion on the Halibut. Both said it wasn't outstanding but wasn't bad. I had the seafood pot, which was more pastry crust and a little over cooked (due to being sat in the bisque soup which I understand.) seafood. I also wish they would have taken the lobster tail out of the shell, but again I understand that's to keep if from completely over cooking while sitting in the soup. Dad ordered some Sushi appetizers that never made it to our table and our waiter was nice enough to bring my dad a slice of cheesecake for his birthday (although we reminded him 4 times.) Overall it wasn't bad, not too expensive, just not the greatest meal we've ever eaten. :-/

Don't bother reading the reviews. They have a over 4* rating for good reason. With over 160 reviews at time of my posting, you know this is something worth trying out.

Chilean Sea Bass was rotten. Smelled and tasted of STRONG AMMONIA. Other food seemed to be pretty good. Flounder was nice. Was disappointed in the waiter and managers response to the spoiled fish. They acted like we were crazy. DEFINITELY WASN'T FRESH FISH. Doubt I'll return.

This restaurant is a dump. My wife and I went with the intention of having a sushi night. We sat at the sushi bar and noticed that all of the fish is pre-cut, which led to dry & rubbery nigiri sushi. About half way through our meal I spotted a roach on the sushi bar.

Would not recommend going at all. Will never go back. Will continue to tell people of our awful experience.

Sushi is good for a place that sushi is not there specialty seafood is off the chain

Seafood and service at this location is excellent. Nothing but enjoyable experiences here. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I loved to visit.

I had the salmon in red sauce with steamed vegtables. The salmon was flakey and the red sauce was very tasty. The steamed broccoli was had just the right amount of crunch. The wife had the NYC sushi roll and said it was great and more than she could eat.

First time here. My husband and I loved it. Food presentation and taste both fantastic. Ally has served us with attention, explaining the plates. For sure we will come back.

Such a unique experience food wise and inside warm by the staff. They fixed a vegetarian dish and this was one of those perfect dishes I ate recently . Will come again . Initially I was worried that what can I pick there - the staff helped me fix a menu item the way I want . And those paintings on the walls - excellent work by the painter and the management .

We usually try to sit upstairs so we can enjoy a quiet meal. I normally get a sushi roll and they're really good but we went last night for a date and I decided to try the fried shrimp, asparagus and mashed potatoes and was truly disappointed. The shrimp was rubbery, overcooked and very plain and unseasoned and the asparagus was very thick and hard. I'm not sure who she was but the woman walking around greeting people had a very uppity attitude. I told her my shrimp problem and she told me she would talk to the kitchen. When she came back, she said she took the shrimp off our bill and immediately took our plates away without asking if we were done and not another word.
The wait staff is really great though always tip them pretty well.

My wife and I have been here many times and each time is an absolute treat. The food is made with the utmost care and detail. Every dish is created with style and flavor in mind. The sushi is delectable while the cooked fish is just as good. The appetizers are wonderful and varied. The wine list is hand picked by management and Raymond picks very well. This place is great for dinner with friends or just a nice date night. It is family owned and the attention the chef gives to each dish shows. If you are ever in the northwest side of town, this place is worth the stop.

This restaurant is amazing. Service always great and the food, words cannot describe how good the entire menu is here. The sushi is the best in this city., but what gets you is the main menu. The Asian American fusion they have here is the best. I've been coming here for over 10 years and have never been disappointed.

Dishes seemed dated, like they catered to an older generation of clientele but they were executed well. Service was good also.

The food is amazing. Everything is fresh and cooked almost to perfection. The dessert we had was a one of a kind awesome. The is great. Very friendly, helpful, and informative. I will recommend this place to everyone. After one meal this place has become one our favorite.

I asked for hot tea I got warm tea in a water glass. Wife ordered fried shrimp all ours came out said wife order went upstairs place sucks.parking lot full of holes.wife was upset did not eat anything. First and last time to Red Fish.

It's a cute restaurant in front of Lowe's, sharing a parking lot. The food is always good and the sushi portions are very big. The downstairs has a bar in the boat shaped section and the upstairs has an homage to all the patrons on the walls. We always have a good experience here. So definitely give it a try.

I can't believe I've lived a mile away since 2007 and just now went there. Unbelievably great seafood. I ordered of the back me hand had the halibut. The owners were walking around and hugging the regulates. Even stopped by our table. She gave us a free desert for our first visit. Super great environment. I will say I was under dressed with camo shirt, camo crocs and blue basketball pants. After a martini I didn't mind much. Must go!!!

I dined here twice while on business in Houston for two weeks. Everything I ordered here was absolutely fantastic. The sushi is surprisingly great. The gumbo is very good. The prices are reasonable. If I lived in the area, I would make this one of the restaurants I frequent.

Had higher expectations for their expensive prices. You'll eat more and cheaper at any fancy dinner compared to this restaurant.

Oh, I love this place. The variety, the freshness, the quality of seafood. Truly a rarity in this area smattered with trendy chains, the uniqueness of this place makes it a favorite. I love all the seafood I've had here, the sushi, and the beef entrees.

Oh and they have one of my favorite beers in the world on tap. Kona Fire Rock, if you've never had it you're missing out.

Just ordered the $35 dry aged ribeye medium. Got it well done. Chews like a dry aged piece of tree bark.

Yes, I know this is a seafood place, but if you have something on the menu at least take pride in how it's served.

This place consistently has the best seafood in the area. The symphony roll is one of our favorites!

First time I've been and will definitely go again. The food was very good and flavorful unlike many other seafood restaurants . The seafood gumbo was great !

Went to meet for a date, salmon was awesome, California roll was perfect! Love that I found a new sea food restaurant!

Went for a birthday dinner. My fiance and I arrived early and sat waiting for our group. We ordered appetizers to munch on while we wait. It took almost 45 minutes for us to get the appetizer. This was just the beginning of a night full of slow and absent service. To the servers defense, they only had 3 servers for the entire party area. The food was fantastic as always and very reasonably priced.

I m speechless. I m a sushi lover and always looking for a better place but this place is just perfect and the best sushi I ever ate.

Definitely going back
First time I tried this place (10 years ago) I REALLY liked it but for some reason could not convince my wife to revisit it. We went back for a dear friend's b-day and was very impressed, the sticky ribs, the pork chops (huge) the seafood, even the dessert was delicious. Not cheap but worth every penny. Upstairs has a great atmosphere too!

First time eating here. Very tasty! Fresh seafood. The lobster and shrimp mac & cheese is sooo good. The sushi rolls are huge! I'll be coming back.

The food is always amazing. The sea food hot pot is the best cold weather food.

I highly suggest their seafood gumbo and shaggy dog roll. I live very close by and it's a part of my Sunday routine to go here and watch Game of thrones when it's in season!

Very large proportions but sushi tasted old and stale, very little taste. Wasabi was old and grey, not green.

Excellent sushi - the best in town, with very large servings, innovative sushi presentations and great prices! The ambiance is very good and the owners, Rolita and David Chang are fantastic hosts. David is the Executive Chef, and is continuously working on new dishes, and even improvements and variations on older dishes to keep the menu fresh. We have never had a dish (including non-sushi dishes) that we haven't liked.

The NYC Roll, the Hot Chic Roll and the Hot Sea Monster Roll are some of our favorites, but you really can't go wrong here. The crab puffs off of the appetizer roll are very good.

Friendly staff, great sushi. The Silverking roll is killer.
