I do not recommend this hotel. Our first time there for News Years Eve and we stayed only one night. We use the valet service due to its convenience and they broke into our vehicle and stole our belongings. They were charging $30 for the parking but did not charge us after the crime was reported to the staff. The staff did not respond to the incident properly and I m not sure if they will report it to the police; they said another vehicle was also broken into. I would like to thank Frederick for taking the time to process an incident report. It s label as a 3 star hotel.
Happy New Year 2018!!

This hotel is unbearable for people who like sightseeing and who love classic appearances. The elevator is a type I've only seen in old movies that manually open the door and slide shutter. Let's swell with the story of the story alone. In business, it is one star.

Overall if you can get a decent price and want to have a good time eating, drinking and shopping this place is worth it. If you want something more spacious where you can just lounge in your room all day I'd say look elsewhere.

I booked thru hotwire for 85$/night and had a great time staying here. The hotel isn't anything spectacular, but it's in a great area. You can walk right out your door in any direction and find a ton of places to eat drink and shop. The rooms are definitely small and the elevator is slow and annoying, but the place is clean and the service is good. I had friends stay at nearby hotels and the rooms were just as small by the way.

Not a place for a family to stay (it can get very loud at night when the bars close), but it's great for someone in their 20s or 30s vacationing with friends. They do have a pretty cool rooftop patio. Workout room is just a treadmill and elliptical and they could upgrade their towels. The bed was actually very comfortable and the restaurant attached to the hotel (Brian's 24 has good food).

This historic hotel well located squarely downtown could be so much more. Obviously this would require some investment. As it is, it is in poor shape. Everything from broken elevators, spill stained furniture, to sticky carpets are just a few of the issues it has. However, the service is very friendly (one star) and the bed was comfortable. There is a restaurant which is open 24 hours next to the hotel. WiFi was average at 7.0 Mbs download.

If possible I would give -5 Stars! The worst and dirtiest Hotel I have ever been in the last years. Dust and dirt on every surface. Tooth pickers under the bed. Hairs from somebody else in the bathroom.... and so on. Incapable stuff for your pleasure. Sleep anywhere else!

Rooms are dated and in need of updating/deep cleaning. Service is even worse. Checked in on a Saturday afternoon. Tried to shower on Sunday morning and no water came out. Informed the front desk, and they said they would take care of it. Tried to shower again on Monday morning and there was no hot water. So my wife and I were not especially fresh on our memorial day weekend. Informed one of the managers (Kenlan) and still nothing has been done to compensate us in anyway. A week later I'm still trying to get in touch with someone to make this better. The location is the only thing that gets this hotel its extra star.

Taking drinks from the bar up to the roof at night was romantic watching the city scape. The room was more spacious than I expected for a historical building. Reading reviews I saw a lot of complaints about the elevators. I found them charming reminding me of being in France a couple of years ago. The staff was young a friendly.
The location is perfect we only had to use public transportation to and from the airport. Walked everywhere else without any issues.

Probably the best hotel in America, top ten worldwide. Beautiful area that nestles into the area. The service is excellent, food tremendous and the ambience perfect. The spa is second to none with pool area to soak up the sun. For the golfers just wonderful.

Fun time here. You have to appreciate the historic nature of the facility and then it is fun to see how it works without losing its history. The rooms are smaller, but useable and enjoyable. We had good rates for the area as well.

Perfect location to all things downtown. Super close to the airport. It's a old, like 100 odd years old hotel but maintained decently. Good for short stays and proximity to city center. 24 hour restaurant is a great add on.

This hotel is a disgrace! They emailed me 30 mins before we were to check in to let us know that they were cancelling our reservation. They offered to relocate us to a crappy hotel that wasn't close to being comparable. They wouldn't budge from their one and only offer or do anything to place us somewhere nice. This was my last weekend with my husband before he deploys and I honestly have no words for the horrible disgusting customer service we received. To be honest, Im glad they cancelled our reservation because on our own we were able to find a hotel last minute with amazing customer service for the same amount of money and they treated us like royalty.

I love this hotel! It was our crew hotel for the airline I worked for. It's old, Art Deco (I believe it was originally the St. Jerome?) but very quaint. A nice rooftop deck, in the middle of the Gaslamp District so restaurants and clubs within easy walking distance.

Such a beautiful hotel with and outstanding viewing deck. The room was nice and the elevator was really neat and old fashioned, something your not used to being in. Would definitely recommend staying here. Also the staff is so nice.

Extremely dirty rooms and the bathroom walls moldy and gross. Stains on bed sheets crud on carpet. Justs awful place. Dangerous elevators hard to open and operate. One guy was trapped between floors on the elevator when I opened the door he had to jump out and take the stairs. A/c window mounted and filthy. Felt sick the whole time. Staff very rude and dismissive.

We had a room with a queen size bed at the 1st floor. Room was ok but really small, towels were stained and there was some engine running on the outside for the whole night. The pro side: directly in the center, has some ancient flavor and the guy at the desk was very kind. But for the 110$ including parking we won't come back here

100+ years old with lots of charm.
Staff was very cordial.
Brians 24 is an excellent eating spot.
If you like the nostalgic atmosphere the Gas Lamp District is for you. Lots of excitement and entertainment..

I enjoyed my stay here very much, it is by no means a 5 star hotel, so if you can accept that you will enjoy it too. It is a very old building, the elevator is historic and slow, but that is also some of the appeal, knowing the building has history. The 24 restaurant next door has outstanding food, the rooftop patio has a great view, and the service staff was very helpful.

If I could give this hotel and their management negative stars I would. Worst experience ever and the management staff (or lack there of) is ridiculous. Brandon Goffner and Ashley Vitale are an embarrassment to hospitality management. Let's just say, you do NOT want to stay here (unless you want to have an awful experience) The location may be great, but the service will never make you want to come back.

A little older place, elevators were hard to get in and out of, I had a good, clean room, some of the front desk staff were a little stiff, but the others were really friendly, and the restaurant/bar is awesome!

Hotel was a lovely historic building right in the gaslamp area of San Diego. We stayed there because we were attending an event at the House of Blues and it was a short walk down the street. Hotel staff were all very friendly. Small rooms but still very nice, especially for the price we paid. The patio on the roof is a great spot to relax with a great view of downtown and the harbor. Would definitely stay there again!

It's an older hotel. Elevator from 1913. The customer service was spectacular! The bed lines feel amazing! The room is very small and with the bathroom. It is very nicely located near 4th, 5th and 6h street so you are in the mix of the party life. Good price value for the location

The hotel itself is pretty cool. The vintage elevators are pretty wicked and the rooftop area was fun too - great for smoking cigars and enjoying a few drinks. The location was great too.
That said, the staff was terrible. Intelligence, friendliness and courtesy are clearly not traits they look for. I've never gotten more "I don't know" responses in one weekend! It was ridiculous. They were so unwilling to help or answer any questions we had. It didn't seem like they had their stuff together.

This hotel has so much Beauty engraved into it, the bathrooms at first looked a little ugly until you start seeing how the tub and tiles give it depth. Also want to add this young man by the name of Jarrett I believe was very kind hearted and always willing to help, he speaks in such a calm tone and carries himself well which really helped me love the environment of this hotel. I can t forget about that roof top because it really brings in peace and sunshine into your vacation. I will recommend coming here if you like old fashioned environments. It s also close by to everything

Quaint old hotel. Used to be the tallest building in San Diego, but that was a long time ago. You can look at it as two ways, threadbare or charming. The rooms are comfy and it's in the heart of the Gaslamp district. It shows its age, but in a good way. Rooftop patio is great viewing. Restaurant attached open 24 hours. 8 min walk to convention center. Friendly staff

Great place to crash. Has an old feel to it, rooms aren't very modern of you're into that sort of thing. Right in the middle of the gaslamp district, minutes away from every major attraction in San Diego.

A little piece of history here: formerly the St. James. Rooms are small and quaint, but the best feature is the rooftop bar/seating area. Great views of the city skyline. Order carryout from the restaurant next door and take it up for a memorable experience.

This Ramada has character, which also means small rooms, mostly without views and many of the comforts you look for. As a business room where you'll spend little time, it works well enough and is close enough to areas downtown to get around easily.

The hotel is old and totally neglected, the treatment of the staff is terrible, for the Comic Convention they gave themselves the luxury and the nerve to charge a night for 720 dollars !!!!!!!!! You expect better treatment from the front desk bosses and they are the worst.

It is not worth living that experience there

I loved the area and the hotel but was disappointed in the beds ours sank in the middle and was uncomfortable. The staff is great and we enjoyed everything else. We really loved the roof top it was really nice and could see all of downtown at night. Very relaxing and peaceful.

I can see how this is appealing for some, just not me. The place is a historic building, so everything looks old but has been renewed a bit. Rooms are smaller than most franchise hotels in So Cal. It's loud, very loud and has thin walls. The beds are super comfortable though and the location is great.

The room we got was VERY small (you can barely walk around the bed). The hotel itself is old with elevators from what seemed like the 1920s. That being said, it was clean, inexpensive for booking at the last minute, and was in a great location. I would recommend if you're looking for an inexpensive hotel that you wont be spending much time in.

The rooms are too small.
It's noisy. So much that they leave you a set of hearing protectors on the pillow!
I do not recommend it

I have stayed here before and love the old-fashion-ness of this hotel. Unfortunately, I made reservations twice and BOTH times this hotel cancelled them. Once was through booking.com (who claimed credit card was denied) and the second time I actually called the front desk of the hotel and made reservations and all went supposedly well. Today I called up to check on my reservation for tomorrow and "Donald" told me it was cancelled and there were no rooms available. When I told him that this was the Ramada's fault and I needed a room as I was coming in from out of town for a concert, he said he couldn't help me and that I was being very aggressive and he was going to hang up on me. He then told me he could have his manager call me and when I tried to give him my phone number he said, "Wait, wait wait, ma'am" very patronizing, "I have to write all this down." I said "Well you are looking at my name on the reservation that's why I am just giving you my phone number" and he said I was accusing him of not being able to read and hung up on me. WTF? Is this hotel and dude for real????? My advice to anyone who dares make a reservation here: CALL ON A DAILY BASIS TO MAKE SURE IT HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED. And if it HAS, speak to anyone but "Donald"!

Place claims to have a "fitness room", its a box of a room with 2 machines that don't work. They claim they're sending maintenance to fix them. Walking out of the elevator at night, a random security guy on our floor told us he heard us from the elevator and we need to be quite or we lose our room. It's only plus is location.

Beware of your suite with kitchenette being overbooked at Ramada Gaslamp in San Diego. They moved me to rooms that I could have gotten for $60 less each night and threw in a tiny fridge and microwave and acted like they did me a favor. I had to ask to have the parking fee waived and they refused to give an an extra night for free. Terrible customer service!!!
