Beautiful facility right on the river. After weeks of lots of light and noise in the USA, finally peace and quiet again at night. Because of the altitude of around 2000 meters above sea level, it is pleasantly cool. You almost feel like you're in South Tyrol, if it weren't for the Stars and Stripes on the meadow opposite. The bison tenderloin was amazing and the dessert was amazing. It is clear that such quality has its price. At least it was worth it to us. Unfortunately, there were still a few ugly things on the penultimate day: the toilet was not cleaned, the plastic cups brought in every day and the cookies were missing. In addition, the tables were not clean at breakfast and there were chips on the floor. It's a shame, so I had to downgrade the rating from five to four.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rainbow Ranch and were impressed with the staff there. We had to reschedule our visit, and Holly was great with helping me to rebook everything (the room, dinner, a massage appointment, and an activity with an outside vendor). Also, I booked the "Romance Under the Rainbow" package, and the folks there substituted some tasty sparkling peach juice for the wine that was included in the package, at my request. We really enjoyed everything, but I think our favorite part about Rainbow Ranch was dinner. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and really enjoyed trying the local cheeses (especially the Mocha Mountina). Our spinach salads and bison hanger steaks were wonderful. The very best part was the dessert--a chocolate mousse with raspberry and salted caramel--which has to be one of the best desserts I've ever eaten.
Beautiful setting, friendly helpful staff, rooms are a bit dated but clean. The only downside and reason for a 4 star vs. a 5 star review is THIS PLACE IS EXPENSIVE. Also very difficult to reach unless you have a car- no hotel shuttle.
Let me tell you about my Rainbow Lodge experience...and it's not a good one! I recently had a wedding there and I really wish I chose a different place. If you don't have a huge check book I'd go elsewhere. Every little thing you get charged for. I had steak for my guests which was raw and I had a lot of complaints about it. My guests also told me the manager was rude to them(No not just my wedding party) I felt very rushed by her almost as if she wanted to get my wedding over with which was very disappointing. We ended up having my wedding in the tent and I was told they would open the flaps on the tent for a river senery at least, that didn't happen. I would just look elsewhere to book a wedding before here unless you plan on spending ALOT of money. Never going back!!! Only positive is that it's pretty but over all we were very disappointed and so were my guests!
Got married at Rainbow Ranch. The venue is amazing, the food is great, and the rooms are nice. However, leading up to the wedding, there were a significant number of issues caused by the planning staff. They charged the wrong credit card for rooms multiple times, messed up details in the contract and changed their food pricing after we had signed the contract, and arbitrarily told us that the cabin we had already reserved would be unavailable. All in all, I would recommend it for a wedding venue, but make sure that you keep a close eye on everything that they do.
We reserved the private room for our group and absolutely loved our meal and service. The mushroom bruschetta was amazing! My only complaint would be that the desserts were not that great, but the appetizer and meal were fabulous.
Planned a visit to Montana with some girlfriends. Picking between two totally opposite sides of Montana and chose to stay at Rainbow Ranch Lodge because of the amenities; riverside room with a private deck and an in room fireplace! Looked very cozy. Upon check in were told that they switched our room without asking. No riverside, no fireplace. No other rooms available. No apology from the manager Ryan for the mishap only offered to minorly discount the room and continued to say I don t know what to tell you . I understand these are all very first world problems but when you book a hotel for the amenities you expect to arrive and enjoy the amenities. Overall disappointed with the experience with the manager and the handling of our booking. How do you change our booking to a completely different experience room and not apologize. Also pretty desolate for where we are staying so not many other options to chose from.
Our food and service were great! Our server was very excited and into his job. The food was amazing.
When were first got there, it was somewhat confusing as the host must have been absent or someone else was filing in who was slightly frazzled and confused, but after we were seated, things were amazing.
Stayed here during solar eclipse staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice. Only complaint is we could here the incredibly busy highway all-night long from the room. This is most likely not a problem any other time.
My husband and I spent a night at Rainbow Ranch Lodge for our anniversary. It was in April and the Lodge was almost empty. The restaurant was not open because it was off-season. The Lodge provided vouchers for breakfast at the restaurant across the highway. I thought that was nice of them. We booked a pond side room. It was ground floor and had a great porch. The room was a neat combination of rustic and upscale with the bath area having spa-like feel. The Lodge hot-tub with outdoor fireplace and infinity edge was super large and well maintained. The staff was especially friendly. We had a very nice stay.
Disappointing experience... especially for the cost. We stayed one night. Our room was very outdated. Years and years of age on carpets, stains were noticeable. Toilet seats were discolored, the bathtub jets were unclean, looked moldy... General Cleanliness is definitely lacking. House cleaning forgot to clean the urine stains off the toilet and clipped toenails still laid on the carpet. Just about felt uncomfortable staying there... should have left but was wore out from driving. I also figured these failures were just flukes, considering the price paid, thinking that I d be blown away by other amenities of the resort... nope, nothing interesting... just a big flop of a stay.
Although, if you re interested in Great landscape and views, you won t be disappointed. Anyway, that s about it, hanging on by a thread...
Gorgeous venue, located along side the river, absolutely the best food, and staff is on top of everything! Highly recommend if your searching for a beautiful Big Sky Venue!
One of my favorite wedding venues. Over the last decade I have photographed many outstanding weddings along side of the beautiful stream. Great service, great food and a spectacularly beautiful place.
Sorry I don't have more pictures of the restaurant & setting for the restaurant. Beautiful location on the Gallatin River with meticulously manicured grounds. Excellent food. Bananas Foster dessert is a must. Fine wine. Excellent service. Great paintings distributed throughout the venue. Don't miss this exquisite restaurant in the canyon.
The room and atmosphere was wonderful. The dinner was great with a nice section of drinks. The only downside was that our bathroom had a poorly working toilet. When I called the front desk they said it was a known issue and that they had ordered parts. That was on Monday and when we check out on Thursday the toilet was not fixed.
Positives: If you want the views and quiet relaxation, this is a great place for that. The staff is great and are very prompt to your requests. The views are breathtaking. We loved the wood fireplace. The restaurant food is high end and delicious but beware, very pricey.
Negatives: if you are expecting a high end room, you may be disappointed for the price you paid. Our room is very outdated (gold sliding mirror closet, berber carpet, old rustic) and we had to have the broken toilet seat replaced upon check in. The bathroom is extremely outdated. The mattress is spring, so depending on your preferences, it may be uncomfortable. Jets in the bath tub but very outdated and kind of dirty pink. The shower curtain smells like old cigarette smoke. The food is excellent, but expect to not get much for what you pay for. $35 for 3 scallops on a small heap of risotto (soup and salad are extra $$$). There were little bugs crawling in my flower that was on my dish. No free breakfast as advertised on travel websites. No pool, just a hot tub, but a nice one. No A/C
Conclusion: Way over priced. We would not stay here again only because we feel they charge way more than they should for what is included and how out dated the rooms are. We stayed in the cougar room. We feel this room is worth $1 95/night max. I guess we paid for the views.
Rooms are very clean and well kept. Comfortable beds and pillows. Each room has a Keurig with some coffee and a mini fridge. The complementary breakfast is delicious with some different food each morning, all very fresh. Only complaint is the door to our room has a weird lock and is difficult to open. Other than that awesome experience!
An amazing Lodge in Big Sky Country. Rooms are great with king bed and fireplace. A stream runs outside in the back. Great romantic spot and close to Yellowstone Park
We had a fantastic stay at the lodge. We ate a delucious dinner at the resturaunt. We loved the elk and foie gras, it was very tasty. We Look forward to our next visit
This is a Big Sky , Montana Gem!! The best of everything; rooms with a view and fireplace, beds are so comfortable I didn t want to get up for breakfast!! Lori is a Sweetheart and so helpful! Definitely on our list to return ... Thank you for your hospitality, until next time...
Rainbow Ranch and their amazing staff helped to make our day more than I could have ever imagined. They were wonderful to work with, detail oriented and went out their way to make sure our day was nothing short of spectacular. All our guests raved about what a wonderful time they had! We were so thrilled when we found their location and loved even more that most of our guests could stay on site. The ceremony site is stunning, right next to the river and we loved the rustic look of the barn and the new tent they have is awesome! The food was delicious and our dessert bar and cake were tasty. I'm pretty sure every last tart was eaten! Thank you to everyone at Rainbow Ranch for making our day so special! We will be back to visit soon :).
I was super excited for our visit here. We were road tripping from GNP to ZNP, and Big Sky was one of our stops! We stayed in the river cabins, and the rooms were not worth the price that was paid. Extremely outdated, and the bathroom was on a whole different level. I didn t even want to shower in there. It was very discolored and the tub jets looked disgusting. The bathroom had a mildewy odor, and there were quite a few fruit flies flying around the sink. I usually am not one to complain, but seriously it was gross. The actual room wasn t as bad, bed was average. The views and restaurant made up for the terrible bathroom situation. The charcuterie was amazing, the wine list was superb, and the filet was delicious. If I came back, I would definitely get the other rooms that look more updated.
We enjoyed our stay at the RR. The bed was comfortable, the shower had very good pressure. The staff were very nice and the property and common areas are very nice. On the downside, for me at least, was the poor WiFi and it s a dead spot for mobile phone service. I would recommend it to friends and I would return.
Food was amazing, the best elk in Big Sky. Our server was so nice, and we enjoyed talking with her throughout our meal. Every single dish had so much attention to detail. The desserts we got were amazing, and the gluten free options were fantastic. Some of the best food you can get in Big Sky. You would be crazy to not eat here, an absolute reccomendation.
We had our wedding at Rainbow Ranch Lodge in June of 2018 and we were thrilled with everything! We are located out of state and Rainbow Ranch made planning a breeze. We were able to rent out all of the hotel rooms for several nights which made for a wonderful reunion for all of our extended family and friends. So many of our guests have commented about how wonderful our wedding was and how great the food and drinks were. The staff at Rainbow Ranch went out of their way to deliver us a wonderful day which included surprising us with dessert in our room at the end of the night!! We highly recommend Rainbow Ranch as a wedding venue!!
Overall it was beautiful. However, the beds and pillows were not comfy. The food was over priced. The bridesmaid lodge had no bathroom or running water, which was not good for wedding day prep. The white tent flooring had big enough gaos in it that the ring could haves fallen through during the wedding ceremony had it accidentally been dropped. Through tyres their year if wedding preparations, the lodge director, Keri was only present twice.
My husband and I have been to Rainbow Ranch Lodge three times and have had an amazing experience each time. The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is stunning. The food is delicious and the drinks are great. We had our small, intimate wedding reception in the wine cellar at Rainbow Ranch in December 2019. Our wedding day could not have been more perfect. The planning and coordination with Rainbow Ranch for our day was seamless and they had everything arranged perfectly on the day so that I did not have to worry about a thing. We will definitely be back to Rainbow Ranch in the future!
The room itself was very nice. The shower area was relaxing with a hot bath and a separate large overhead shower area. Fireplace by the door with stocked logs right outside. Standard stuff such as a huge bed, tv, keurig, reasonably stocked mini fridge. As for location it is basically an hour away from just about anything (including cell phone service). That being said the hour drive is beautiful. There is wifi, of course depending on where you stand. The service staff were basically all very nice, except the lady who checked us in - I assume she was new because she was cleary stressed out by checking people in. They have a Continental breakfast 7a-10a that was good enough for me but somewhat lacking - bagels and english muffins, a plate with a few sliced fruits, yogurt and some oats type stuff to mix in it, some weird egg things that were round and had stuff mixed in (red/green). No decaf coffee (pregnant wife) but I was able to get some from the very nice man who was refilling stuff as it ran out. No lunch served, supposedly they served dinner at some point. There is a bar across the street that served (surprise) bar food, otherwise it was a minimum 2 hour ordeal (1 hr each way) just to eat a meal. The layout of the main building and rooms was very nice. There is an outlying house also available that other people in our party stayed in which was very nice. To get to the other house area you have to walk across a bridge that is the width of one car. At one point my parents were walking from the house across the bridge as I left my room and I saw a huge truck barrel down on them, honk loudly, then proceed to yell at them as they moved out of the way. These are ~65 year old people in formal attire walking across a 30 ft bridge. Upon investigation the bridge is access to some other area apparently not part of the resort, so basically any random person might just drive through the parking lot without regard for the guests. Overall it was a very nice place and I recommend it to people looking to get away from the bustle of day to day life, you just might want to bring your own food depending on your diet. I would have given it 4 stars if not for some trouble checking in and my parents bridge incident.
My wife and I stayed there back in 2006. We are so glad to see that you guys gathered the troops and rebuilt after the fire. We obviously where thinking about this place and are looking forward to coming back. THe staff was amazing and the rooms where amazing too. We seriously couldn t think of a better place to go and just enjoy the beautiful area. You guys are amazing and we will be back soon enough.
Beautiful rustic looking rooms...great food....great wait staff. The outdoor fireplace near the hot tub was fantastic. Was a winter wonderland!! Thank you Scott!
Excellent place for a wedding. Incredibly helpful staff eager to please. No detail was too small for them and they helped wherever and whenever they could. The scenery is amazing and the grounds keepers do a great job keeping things nice and neat. I'd be excited to go back again.
Stayed here one night in Feb 2020. The lodge is rustic, classy and quiet. Fantastic outdoor hottub, super welcoming/accommodating staff that all care and deliver great service. Nice spacious rooms with real fireplaces and comfortable beds. Don't miss the breakfast buffet (included), the food was excellent!
Pending review Our daughter just had her wedding at Rainbow Ranch... We could not be happier with the outcome of our recent wedding experience for our daughter from Arizona. This destination wedding was highly complimented by all our guests from all over the USA & Canada. The setting is nothing short of magnificent...the venue is of the highest quality in the Big Sky area...everything was 1st class in every way! Carrie Bishop, the wedding coordinator, was extremely helpful from the planning stage to the implementation of the actual wedding ceremony itself, providing the parents & wedding party with clear & concise step by step instructions. Highly recommended!!!
This place is a little slice of heaven. The service was outstanding, the hot tub was huge, and the views were amazing. The owner and the whole staff treated us like family and were so incredibly accommodating.
This place is just perfect. It's comfortable like home, - or like you would want your home to feel like- What a great place to have an event , a wedding, or just a bug party ! *****
Had a great time, good staff, complimentary breakfast, catered wedding went off without problems, and it's all facing the Gallatin River for a gorgeous view
Awesome place. I really enjoyed my stay. The atmosphere is so charming and the scenery is amazing. The rooms are top notch. So comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I love this place.
I am so happy that us locals have a great place to get great food and drinks. We enjoyed the rustic ambiance and the friendly staff. The fire place was cozy.
I have to say I was pretty disappointed in the whole experience. While the hot tub was beautiful and the restaurant was very nice, the remainder of the experience left a lot to be desired.
When we arrived after 3pm, the rooms were not ready. This was not a big deal as the front desk staff stated our drinks would be comped but the drinks were not comped costing us $40. Additionally, the fact that our rooms were not ready seemed odd as the resort was completely empty.
When I lit the fire in my room, the chimney could not handle the smoke and some persistently filtered into the room. At first I thought I made a mistake and forgot to open the flue, but I checked and it was all the way open (to the right). I then realized the bottom of the mantle and the area above the fireplace doors were covered in soot from previous fires, indicating that this was not a new issue.
My next thought after opening the door to evacuate the extra smoke, was about the smoke alarm. Well, it was disconnected and hidden in the closet. I was happy I didn't set it off, but appalled by the disregard for guest safety. This also highlighted that your staff was aware of the fireplace issue.
Now, I was hoping to discuss these issues with the staff the next morning, after breakfast, at checkout; however, we waited until 8:20 but the lodge was still locked. Since we are here to ski, we planned to eat breakfast at 8am (when we were told breakfast started) and make it to the mountain for first lift at 9. We ended up leaving our keys with one of a staff employee who was also waiting outside. Instead of providing an explanation, or offering a discount we were just told "I am sorry". There comes a time when sorry does not cut it. We ended up having to buy breakfast elsewhere costing $30.
All around, at the price point of your hotel, these issues are unacceptable. This is compounded by the missing amenities, such as breakfast or the free in room cookies. Having stayed at over 500 nights in a hotel during my adult life these errors are just disappointing and once again unacceptable for a lodge which is advertised as "luxury".
This place is awesome! The setting is beautiful, the amenities are plentiful, and the staff are friendly. In all honesty, the facility names (The Lawn at Rainbow Ranch...) Are a bit overstated... Accurate, but overstated.
My husband and I had our Destination Wedding here in September 2018. We purchased the complete wedding package. Beth, our officiant was great, she even gave as recommendations on places to see and visit while in the area. We stayed at the pond side suite. Beautiful, spacious room with king sized bed, fireplace, and bathroom with jet spa and tiled shower. The view faced the Gallatin River and pond. Breathtaking views and everything I ever dream of for my wedding. However, I am completely upset and disappointed that we have not received our wedding photos. It's been 9 months since our wedding, and we have not had any correspondence with our photographer, Kelli since last November. We picked out the photos we wanted to purchase and have not heard back. We have called Rainbow Ranch numerous times and keep getting told that they have been really busy working on projects, or Kelli is in meetings and they will have her call us back. NOTHING. I understand that people are busy, but this is extremely out of line! We payed for a photographer and expect to get the photos we payed for! I called and spoke to a new manager today to tell her we just want a refund for our pictures. At this point, we are obviously not going to get our wedding photos. So disappointed.
We stayed here on a whim and we found the best lodging in Montana. The rooms are GREAT! So comfortable, spacious and warm. The fireplace adds the perfect ambiance. Lastly, the bathrooms are wonderful, so spacious and luxurious, I could have just stayed in there the whole time. The pool was great, such beautiful scenery. The only downside is the food is just okay, but everything else makes up for it. I will definitely be here again!
Always a joy to stay at RR! Been going there for years~stayed during the 4th of July week... The staff always goes above and beyond treating ike family. Thank you Scott and Rachel for helping us make some great vacation memories!
Rooms don't get cleaned properly, the sheets don't get changed between visits. staff steals from guests. And I should probably mention that they have been harboring a WANTED felon in their housing. Underage staff drinks on the clock while the head of everything is very well aware of everything
Absolutely gorgeous place ! My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and loved the place . The staff regardless of their position were friendly, respectful, courteous, and very professional! Had a good time visiting with them ,my hats off to all of you who made our stay memorable . Thank you so much and we will definitely be coming back !
Rainbow Ranch is among my favorite "staycation" getaways in the area. The restaurant rarely disappoints, with food of a caliber that is difficult to come by in this neck of the woods. The only difficulty with the food is that their head chef tends to change each year, so we never know which dishes are going to be the real specialties. That said, last night's meal was stunning. I loved the smoked trout cheesecake and the asparagus, and all of the mains were perfect. The cocktail menu is always fun; although I miss some of the old drinks, I appreciate the opportunity to try new ones and know they'll be well-crafted. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous! The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and it's nice to have the little porch out back to listen to the river. All in all my favorite high-end place in all of Southwest Montana!
Amazingly scenic, great staff, great breakfast, nice rooms. If you have time take 4 or 5 hours to hike the trail on the hill behind this place. Bring bear spray. Watch out, sometimes the water pressure gets low, though.
My husband and I just stayed at the RR for my birthday and we also got engaged there about a year ago. Our last stay however, was less then impressive. The rooms were dirty, the sink did not drain, the robes had stains and we're falling apart, we got one towel in our room, the man working at the front desk was rude to say the least, you did not offer bottled water for purchase even though the the nearest places to some is at least 8 miles away, and worst of all we left half my favorite silk pajamas in the room on accident. We went straight home after our stay so it's not possible they are not there. After calling multiple times over 5 days and sending emails we were finally told they are not there. I wore these pajamas 2 months ago while getting ready for my wedding. They were a gift from my grandma who has now passed.
I got a last minute booking to a beautiful 2 room suite. Amazing view and cabin. It was the best lodging I have ever experienced. My wife was so delighted!
Drive carefully to the hotel has a number of large Elks that come onto the road at night.
Beautiful spot by the river, friendly staff, reasonable price. The rooms are great, wood provided for the fireplace and the hot tub is right out back. Unfortunately, their bar/restaurant is only open firing peak season.
The location is beautiful and peaceful and is within close driving distance of Big Sky. We especially enjoyed the in house restaurant. The food was phenomenal! Our room's amenities were very nice as well and we were extremely comfortable. My only complaint is that our room didn't have AC and the heater wouldn't stop running, so our room was quite warm. Other than that, we had a lovely stay and hope to return soon!
*This was from my stay 7/2014. Sounds like Samuel doesn t work here anymore.
My wife and I stayed at the lodge last week and were completely dissatisfied with the customer service that Samuel provided. We had a two bedroom reservation and our room didn't have any AC , windows and the door that we could of opened for some air didn't have a screen. The first night was miserable. The next night we ended up turning off the lights (so we didn't attract bugs by the pond below our room) and then opening the door to try and keep the room cool. All Samuel had to say was "nobody has AC in Montana"......empathy isn't his strong suit. The other room that my parents were sleeping in had a great breeze and they slept comfortably. If you plan on coming in the winter and being toasty this place would work great!
