Beautiful hotel, convenient to Dart (4/5 green stars)
This Radisson Blu occupies St. Helen s house an amazing Georgian mansion (built in the 1750 s) that s listed as a National Monument. They did a pretty good job of not ruining the look of the place the parking area appears to be underground (I barely noticed it) with the result that most rooms have a nice view. There were many highlights for me: the gardens, the conservatories, the tiled entrance way, and all the period details like the fireplaces. I was shocked that we could get rooms, including breakfast for two, for just under 100 (direct from their site, under Deals). The staff members were all friendly (and not snobbish) and the overall vibe is very relaxing. You can walk to Booterstown Dart station (via Merrion Wood) in 10 or 15 min, and also get a bus direct to the hotel from Dublin Airport (Aircoach, 700 route) or the city center (Dublin Bus the 46A is fairly frequent). Rooms are pretty, very quiet, and beds are comfy. We had two meals, dinner in the Orangerie bar and breakfast in Talavera restaurant and most of us were happy with both, and the surroundings were very pretty (both are housed in their conservatories). Breakfast was particularly good the antipasti were a highlight for me, along with their fresh pastries and fruit.
I m giving them 4/5 green stars for social and environmental impact. The hotel has won local awards for sustainability (EnviroCom), was nominated for a sustainable energy award (by SEAI) and also a Green Award in 2016, and has gold status on greenhospitality.ie. It s not listed on FairHotels site, which lists hotels that are reported to treat employees well, but on Glassdoor, Radisson Blu employees give it a good rating: 4/5 stars on average. The parent company (Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group) has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the world s most ethical companies for 7 years running.
As far as personal experience goes, I saw some good practices and also some room for improvement. Some things are fairly common these days, such as a key card slot that controls power in the room so that it ll switch off when you leave. They had a program to incentivize guests to reuse towels with a notice that they will provide water for a child for life for every 250 towels reused. They didn t do such a good job in the room on explaining the room heating system it operates on a scale from cold to warm, with no units, so guests are left to guess at where to set the temperature on this arbitrary scale. The bedding is extremely warm, so we all ended up being too hot we would have saved energy (and had a better night s sleep) if the heating scale was explained by a notice. The Rezidor hotel group does report on their water and energy footprint for each room, and has improved these by 5-10% since 2012. They ve made good progress on reducing waste sent to landfill. I ll review their food separately, but overall I felt that there is some room for improvement in their sourcing of food (coffee, fish, meat, etc.). As a whole the hotel is above average, but not perfect by any means, so 4/5 green stars. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)
Excellent hotel, fantastic staff, top class food stunning gardens. All in all 5 stars for sure.
The old castle has been converted into a hotel, which is a very old-fashioned hotel.
Second time here. Staff excellent, room lovely but the heat broke down again like first visit, however heater left in room during dinner without being requested. Bar food on this occasion was well below standard. All said I would stay here again
Everything from the moment we checked in till next day when we are leaving, service, food, staff, was 5 star.<br/>Dinner in talavera restaurant was amazing and staff extremely friendly.. Definetly will come back. Thank you
Its a chain hotel. I arrived lateish, and selection to eat was minimal and not very good. Beds not the most comfortable I have slept on for a 4 or 5 star hotel. Staff are obliging, but again not as dedicated to service as I have experienced in other 4 or 5 star hotels.
I may have just gone on the wrong night. Mine was just a one night experience. If I stayed longer would have probably found the better qualities of this hotel.
Lovely venue very friendly staff and great food
The Radisson was incredibly beautiful and welcoming with delicious breakfast. Definitely recommend.
We went here for a Christmas party and this was lovely. All the staff were pleasant and the part of the hotel that we were put in was very nice. The food was as expected.
Very nice rooms with balcony and bar food good also
Had a great stay until checkout when reception was quite rude. We thought we prepaid for breakfast at check-in when we gave our credit card. She then asked for our credit card again. We asked if she could confirm that we wouldn't be double charged. At which point she started to have an argument. Not the greatest way to send off your guests.
Fabulous place to stay, beautiful place and surroundings. Great food and service.
Wonderful place to eat. Great food, great staff, beautiful hotel and gardens! Highly recommend!
Great hotel, nice food , It was HALAL first time i saw this in irish hotels , enjoyed the service
Pleasant but too expensive. Rather far out from the city centre. Duty manager from Croatia very pleasant and helpful.
Luxurious hotel, marble staircases, enormous chandeliers, it is the true definition of an 'upper class' hotel. Unfortunately there was no pool in this hotel, which was a bit of a disappointment considering it was a 5 star hotel.Otherwise good, large breakfast and expansive gardens . Good place if you're willing to 'splash the cash'
The staff were amazing, could not do enough.. especially breakfast staff, constant coffee without asking!! Food was unbelieveable and any cocktail you could imagine. The decor is unbelievable and the grounds and other areas were stunning!! Beds also super comfy with dundrum just around the corner nicest hotel stay in Ireland so far!
Beautiful place to be!! Everyone here is extremely friendly, and helpful. My boyfriend and I have been here for 8 days and absolutely love it. It is directly on the bus line to the city center of Dublin so its quick and simple to get around the area.
Lovely cosy rooms, nice gardens, and space, and very nice living room/bar area. It's not in a busy area so a car is required to go places.
Beautiful historic building and grounds. Great hospitality. Food and drink pure delights. Taxi fare to City centre very reasonable, bus far even cheaper and close by.
Had a really nice time, staff is very helpful, food is good.
Had a lovely experience in this fabulous hotel especially in the Italian restaurant the risotto was to die for from the master chef Giancarlo and had the chance to come to our table brilliant food fair play Giancarlo and thanks for tip how to cook risotto we will be back thanks so much for a beautiful stay Radisson blu st Helens xx
Great place for events. Classic design with small, pretty, tiered garden (like a miniature Powerscourt gardens). Haven't stayed here but I've checked out all the event venues and they are all excellent.
Everything was awesome, everyone smiling and making you feel comfortable, I'd definitely come back!!!
I've stayed in better hostels. This place might have been a 5 star back in the day, but in urgent need of a revamp and proper staff training
Very clean and spacious. Staff very efficient and friendly and very informative.
Regarding the orangery restaurant.. Poor management, terrible food, although a nice venue/setting. Our reservation (table for 3 by the window in the orangerie) was never logged so instead we were seated inside the lounge in between the doors into the conservatory and behind a couch, no view of the garden as promised when making the reservation. The food took over an hour to arrive and was poor quality. I ordered the club sandwich which had tough/over cooked pieces of chicken so chunks of it were actually inedible. Both floor staff and cooks are in dire need of training. New management badly required.
excellent environment for social meeting or business meetings
Had lunch here today an couldn't fault it, the food an service was fabulous.. Only concern was at the reception area, it's a bit slippy on the wooden floor, a Matt would fit in perfect with the rest of the decor in the hotel an would make a major difference to guests in heels especially as it is the only way to the restrooms..
Had a chance of photographing the wedding there a while ago. Great venue with lovely gardens at the back, good food and very friendly staff .
First class service. Very clean. Beautiful picturesque surroundings.
Staff very professional and very friendly. Excellent food. My favourite hotel for socia and business purposes.
Hotel is in the really nice part of Dublin. My room had a good garden view. There is ample parking in the hotel. The restaurant and bar were great for breakfast and dinner. You will need to get a cab to get to downtown which I find as the only dow side to staying here.
It s far from central. It s a beautiful heritage building. Nice staff
Thanks, everyone! For making it a memorable night for us. Glad we spent it here.
Lovely place food excellent very handy to get to from City centre or from Wicklow/Wexford direction.
Was there for 100th birthday party food was first class stuff for brilliant a lovely hotel if I could give it 6 stars I would
The staff were unfriendly and there was a rat in my room. Managers were rude and arrogant. I highly recommend not to go to this hotel if you are looking for plesant stay. Apart from that, it is worth instagramming the place. Cheers!
Firstly it is an amazing building, with really nice gardens and a pretty bar and eating area. It is not exactly central so make sure you plan accordingly. The gym was pretty uninspiring and it is a shame it doesn't have more in the way of spa/steam etc. We had to move rooms as the TV didn't work, which I can't imagine is a sudden problem. They did give us a bottle of win in compensation. Breakfast was good, and the staff were super helpful in general.
Nice ambience with great views of the garden. I bring my mum there for a coffee and a chat. Coffee is good....however the service is dreadful. First order is no problem but to reorder is impossible..staff go out of their way not to be available.
Spent the night for a Christmas party. Beautiful hotel. Food was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bedroom was cold despite heating being turned on
Very nice hotel. Spotlessly clean and staff very helpful
The best hotel to be in Dublin, friendly polite staff clean environment and delicious environment.Thumbs up .
Lovely garden and conservatory for coffee and afternoon tea
Great hotel in South Co. Dublin. Has the feel of a country house but is so close to the city.
Great staff exceptional staff . Dinner and breakfast delicious. No faults to be given
Horrible service. Heating broken and almost 1h to get another room. It was +13C in the room. They even forgot to apologize....
Excellent attended a conference facilities spotless and free parking for attendees which was welcome. Staff very pleasant and helpful
Hotel is beautiful. Was decorated for christmas and was breath taking. The room was well serviced and stylish and the food was amazing. Will defo return
Great service. TV had built in Chromecast.
Beware, there is absolutely nothing around, not even convince stores.
Dublin bus just outside and Dart nearby
Very nice hotel, looks like a Palace. The room was very comfortable. 5 star hotel.
Expansive! Picturesque! Manicured Garden! Pleasure to lodge here.... oh... and its affordable!
Great location and a fabulous setting. Excellent service and broad selection. Handy for meetings and for a break.
Really friendly staff, lovely gardens and fantastic food
This is a great hotel. Great food good lunch menu ambiance is lovely worth a visit.
Quiet, clean, cosy, traditional, modern, big and small. Quite an experience.
Beautiful hotel, elegant old work charm and location is excellent. Highly recommend.
Beautiful hotel in super setting... lovely grounds, staff.. great location to explore south Dublin
Fancy appearance, that is why I made my booking. But the decorations and the facilities in the room is showing the age. And it is quite far from city. If you want to experience different styles of hotels as me, one day is enough for staying.
My husband and I booked this 5 star hotel as a treat as we obviously can t go out foreign but we were so disappointed with the stay. Firstly it certainly is not a 5 star hotel, the room we paid for was basic and we paid extra to upgrade in initial booking, no joy at reception when I questioned, we had invited people to join us for dinner on the 1st night to discover only bar food no restaurant open, the same menu on the second night as well needless to say we didn t eat there on night 2, prices at 5 star rate but not 5 star quality I would strongly advise checking all before booking, we definitely will not be returning. The outside grounds beautiful, well done the gardeners
Our experience at the Radisson was great. Front desk staff were polite, but seemed very busy and unable to personally attend to guests. Rooms were clean and well decorated, but were smaller than anticipated and slightly cramped. For the price, I anticipated a slightly better situation.
Had a Small problem with our room and they upgraded us to a business suite. Now that was lush! Also was our wedding anniversary and gave us a nice little chocolate treat
