The hotel was nice. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about local restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay.
Nice looking hotel but the service is terrible. No soap to wash my hands in the bathroom. I asked for soap to be brought up and I was brought body wash and shampoo...
Excellent service. Nice rooms. And a sack breakfast was very nice during covid. Most places don't offer anything. We will be back!
Very nice hotel on the river with a restaurant attached with fair prices.
I've come here the past two years. I've never been disappointed. Any problems are solved quickly, kindly, and efficiently. The staff is amazing. Especially Roberto and Brad Schmitz. They really care here. Which is why I will continue to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Grand Rapids area. Couldn't be more pleased with my experience.
Clean, helpful staff, renovations are done so check in was last chaotic. We also came here for my daughters last cheer comp as well when renovations were undergo and it was a pain. This time it was pleasant. Beds were not so comfortable but clean. Recommend booking this hotel for future competitions.
Advantages; warm employees, good price, microwave and refrigerator avaliable
Disadvantages; not clean enough
The wifi here is horrible. If you are a business traveler with work to do, steer clear.
I ve stayed here a few times and it s always been a good experience.. front desk is always nice but the bartenders are absolutely awful. I m assuming they don t work off of tips because their customer service is horrendous and makes guests feel unwelcome. Two weekends in a row there was a woman with curly hair who acted very annoyed and wanted to eat in the back instead of tending to a full rail of guests. The hotel needs some serious work. Cosmetically it s not bad, but the foundation is falling apart. You get what you pay for.
Don t let the elegance of the main lobby fool you, this place is overall lackluster. There is a smell of stale french fries that lingers in the hallways, the TV is blurry and the view is abysmal. The only redeeming factor was supposed to be the hotel restaurant but DO NOT eat there. Food is way to pricey for what you are getting. Lastly, the pool isn t warm enough and the hot tub is too cold. Long story short, it s not really worth much much over 70 a night.
Aged hotel but the other guests in the hotel bar were fun.
What a Huge Disappointing 3 day stay! Poor shape and very sad. I stayed here in 1970 when it was Holiday inn! Not much has changed! Really poor internet and cable! Housekeeping? What Housekeeping? Obviously the staff doesn't want to work? Asend is Choice Hotels Line! Hopefully they can raise the Bar! Hopefully they contact me! Beware this place is just short of Bed Bugs!!!
Stayed here for the Winter Beerfest in Grand Rapids. Very nice place and located close to town.
The stripper hotel is what the locals call it. Besides the bums from the corner trying to get beer in the hotel bar. Our stay was rather pleasant.
This hotel had false advertising online. Pictures where from years ago. Landscaping was not maintained, rooms were small, room was not finished, beds were uncomfortable, and TV was very blurry. No continental breakfast. Went to go swimming in the pool and bandages where stuck to the bottom and there was black mold on the walls, then continued to the hot tub and there was nasty chunks floating on the top. So not worth the money spent. It was probably glorious in the 80's!
Sunday night funnies is hosted here, a great laid back local stand up comedy series.
This place may have updates but was less than up to par. My room came complete with a used wash cloth with pubic hair. My tub had a really long hair on the side of the tub along with a small hair critter around the drain and the tiolet wasn't working properly. I asked for a river view and it was on my confirmation but did not receive. I left my pillow behind called on it three times only to be told after a week that I had to call their shipping service to get it. No. I WILL NOT stay here again.
So we got married here 2 months ago at the end of August 2018.
Absolutely loved it!!
We had the outside patio for our ceremony and reception.
We had lots of friends and family from out of town so they all stayed at the Hotel. It was perfect.
We had food from the Hotel as well .
The food was great!!!
The Venue was perfect.
I highly recommend getting married here on the outside Patio!!
Hit up Trevor to book it.
Thank you Grand River Hotel for giving us such a great wedding experience we will never forget!!
Aesthetically it is very nice. The woman I checked in with was very kind and pleasant. Asked in person at the front desk from the night guy for some linens for pullout couch for my kids. They politely obliged, but never brought them. I had to remove two sheets from the bed for them to sleep with. Bathrooms had no vent fans, which is not cool. The shower did not drain. That's kind of gross, but overall I suppose it was an alright place to stay.
Wifi was horrible. Rooms were ok. Maintenance was spotty at best. Food was excellent.
They didn't tell us they were remodeling. The whole place was in disarray. Our toilet flooded and we got switched to a (smaller) room which only had one working outlet. Breakfast was not great
Rooms were good size. A little pricey though for the quality. Over all I would stay there again but would shop my options a little more before booking.
The hotel was clean, as far as that goes, and the staff friendly, but not overly friendly. We have stayed before so we decided to use this hotel again. We were also excited the hotel had the Sleep Number beds. The SN matters was AWFUL!! With both my husband and I on it, it felt like one of us was going to fall off the side. We tried to adjust it, but the remote was broken and would not let us "lower the number". When we told the front desk, the only response we got from the coker was "yeah, we know, we are trying to get new ones." We were both so sore the next day we could hardly move. Also the hair dryer was all wonky, to the point my husband had to take the wall unit out of the bathroom and get it to work by the TV, so he stood on the room holding it up so our daughters and I could dry our hair for the day. I think next time we will look for a alternate option.
I really enjoyed the hotel and the cleanliness and the free shuttle to downtown. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our five year anniversary and decided to try out the restaurant below to celebrate with some wine and dinner. There was no one seated to eat but we had three workers look at us and pretend as if they didn t see us. We waited for way too long and finally when someone came to seat us she said we d have to wait a little longer because the tables weren t cleaned next to the windows yet.
Anyways, we got sat in the booth right next to some employees that seemed to be on their lunch and one seemed to be the night manager. I was so irritated because as were trying to enjoy our wine all I can hear is them talking about co-workers and other customers. It was totally unprofessional and it got to the point where our server wasn t taking care of us and she d turn around and start talking to them instead. If you stay in this hotel avoid the restaurant at all costs. The food is decent and the wine was good but for what you re paying I d just go spend your time and money somewhere else.
We had a great view of the river! Beds were super comfortable and the room was clean. However, do not get a room by the elevators because that is all you will hear all night. Speaking of the elevators, your better off taking the stairs as they tend to run rather slow. One got stuck on the third floor while I was here so we had to either walk all the way to the other elevators or take the stairs. I would stay here again if I couldn t find something a little better.
Nice, budget friendly hotel near the DeVos Center and VanAndel Arena. You can tell they put some work into updating an older property. Friendly staff!
Clean rooms, bathroom faucet was loose, bathroom walls had cracks and missing plaster. Did the job of giving me a place to sleep for the night though.
It's very nice and clean. I found the decor of the room odd but of course that's personal preference.
I came for the comedy, I stayed because of the wonderful rooms.
Just a couple miles from concert and restaurant, nice pool
With everything starting to open back up after the quarantine, I thought the pool area might be open with limited capacity. I looked all over the website, and nothing said it was still closed, so I booked a room. (Actually, I accidentally booked two and couldn't cancel, but that's my fault). So I paid for two rooms just to get there and find everything in the hotel closed - you can't even sit in the lobby. If the website had simply stated that ALL amenities are unavailable (it only mentions food and drink options are "limited"), then I would have waited until it was open to stay there. The rooms were nice and everything, but I can't help feeling let down with my stay. I'd be happy if they would just give me a deal on coming back once things are open again.
Worst experience I ever had was there just this past weekend for a concert and got checked in came down to restaurant to eat before show sat there for 25 minutes and got no service waitress walked right past us twice and didn't say a word or stopped so we left and had to go somewhere else which made us late for the show came back after the show the lounge was suppose to be open until 12 a.m. it was closed at 10 p.m. worst experience I ever had and I expect some sort of refund it was a terrible experience for what we paid.
Freshly renovated. Halls just ok, but rooms are good.
GREAT STAFF!! There was also a comedian named Rashaad Wright that performed. HE IS A STAR!! So HILLARIOUS I will come back EVERY TIME he is performing there!!
Rooms were clean and had a nice hang out area with games for familys.
The staff was really poor. There was a male bartender that was clearly on something.
Great room and service. They have a nice bar and friendly staff.
Started off great with an easy checkin. Room was pretty small with hardly enough room for our luggage. Tried to break out the laptop to get some work done, but couldn't connect to the wifi. After 3 trips to the front desk, they moved me to a different floor. Everything has been smooth sailing since. The complementary shuttle service to downtown is great, and the drivers are as friendly as can be and full of local knowledge. Make sure you tip your driver. The hotel isn't in the most exciting area, but it's a cheap and comfortable place to sleep and shower.
During our stay, our room was never cleaned and the shuttle we were told about was never available. We still wanted to give the place another chance but they will not answer their phones. This is infuriating.
Went there for a training function. The building is old but it's pretty decent inside. Didnt stay in a room.
The beds are always super comfy, it has the best hot tub I've used in a long time, and the staff is always super helpful. Stayed here several times and always love it.
Terrible! Don't waste your money! Worst customer service. Rooms not cleaned until after 8pm. Putting customers in rooms with unfinished ceilings. Never an apology for the inconveniences. They are cutting corners big time with the remodel. And then they double charged me and tried telling me they didn't!
Have you been tomorrow at the Grand River Hotel very nice banquet room setup very nice. Clean very organized and the manager there was helpful and informative and I would do business there again and again and again will I stay there yes
Very nice hotel. Shuttle service to downtown G.R. quick and efficient. Many different pillows to choose from for a good night's sleep! Could use vending machines on each floor for late night beverages and munchies
This is my third time staying here. The last two times were fine, but this time was disappointing. The towels were paper thin, and there wasn't enough of them for two people. Also, the remote to the TV didn't work.
I stay in a great deal of hotels for work (150-200 nights a year) and am very disappointed with this hotel. They authorized 4 rooms for 4 nights ($800) on my card that they assured me was going to be used to hold the reservation and not charged. Thus the $800 was held pending by the bank until cleared. Upon arrival I was not greeted as a Choice member. I called for a wake up call and was told, "because we have so many wake up calls we have to limit them so call back in the morning...at 6am to set a wake up call" Really? The "fitness center" is split into 3 different room with 4 outdated pieces of equipment. I could go on but what's the point?
Extremely hard bed ruined our stay. For the first time ever I requested money back and changed to a different hotel after one night of torture.
They said oh go get your credit card so we can try to run it again because I guess they ran it the first time and they don't know how to run a credit card machine and it didn't go through for some reason they were charging the wrong card and it kept getting
It looks nice from the outside. Inside is outdated, the room wasn't the cleanest and they pretend to have balconies but they don't. Nice big TV in the room.
First time staying here. The rooms are small. I found other peoples hair in the bathroom. They messed up my reservation and had to correct that. Ate at their restaurant; We ordered the same thing two days in a row and got different preparations each day. Inconsistent quality. The shuttle ran late for pickup. Vent was also full of dust and obvious it hadn't been cleaned in awhile in the bathroom. Won't return. I'll pay extra for a better hotel next time.
The remodel of the restaurant and bar is beautiful! I was hoping for a better Sunday buffet. It was nice to hear jazz on Sunday but the food was not terrific. But I am willing to give them another shot.
Nice place, not as nice af they would like you to think. Hall carpet leaves a funny lingering smell in your nose... rooms are clean, desk phone didn't work, A/C took a dump on me at 3am... making the worst sound.
Could not process a credit card after half hour of trying we left
Nice clean hotel...comdy beds...and a free shuttle every half hr. To & back from Dwn. Town Grand Rapids. Fred was our driver...and what a GREAT GUY
Clean room, really modern atmosphere. Love the central location and the bar. The lobby is comfortable and welcoming.
Quiet and comfortable. Within a short drive from downtown
I wish I could put 0/5. Bait and switch at its finest. Get there and they said they are updating it. Painted the place purple and white LOL. Looks like a place I see off 8 mile that you pay for by the hour. Pictures on online are about five years old.Staff was rude. We had a late check out and someone came knocking at our door like I was late for a Military inspection. Didn't say sorry for bothering me or anything, just a dirty look, but I would too if I hated my job. Paid $95 for a night. We had no hot water. No Cable. No Wifi. Rooms need to be updated I hope that is the next step, because the outside looks like they should charge $30 a night. Do yourself a favor and stay downtown or not here. Oh ya the hallway to the room smelt like a mixture of urine, smoke, and other things. GET YOUR STUFF TOGETHER IF YOU ARE GOING TO CHARGE 95 BUCKS FOR THAT!!!!
Called yesterday, said some rooms would probably be available by 2 o clock. Came Sunday 2:50 pm,claims zero rooms available but all will be available Maybe by 3:30 PM LOL. That s funny because when you check out by 8 am, they are already cleaning rooms. Very bad service at the desk by a person of color with dreadlocks. Beware!!!
I would give no stars if I could, but that's not an option. I got up at 5am to use the bathroom and found the floor of the bathroom filled with ants. So I grabbed my stuff and went to the front desk. The woman apologized and said she'd notify maintenance. I stood there for a few minutes and then said, "Well I guess I will check out." since it was obvious nothing else was going to be done. I booked my room through Priceline and reported this to them because I used an "Express Deal" and I thought they should take it off of their list of options. After telling them what happened they attempted to get my money back, which I honestly hadn't even thought about so I thought it was nice of them to try, but the GM refused because I couldn't give the name of the person I talked to and they had no report of bugs. I understand they wouldn't want to give me my money back, but what's more disturbing is that the bathroom was filled with ants (at last count it was 16) and they did nothing about it and apparently this woman didn't even bother to report it. I wouldn't stay here, bugs are a huge problem for me. There were other problems, but I wouldn't have said a word about them if it hadn't been for the bugs so I won't list them here. If they'd have given me my money back, or offered me a different room that would have prevented me from writing this review, but apparently the GM doesn't care about bad reviews or a hotel with bugs.
Great bar. They were doing construction so the room was cheaper
We stayed at The Grand River Hotel July 20, 2019 for one night. We were in town for a wedding and had previously booked our room under the Block of rooms the Bride had reserved. Our room cost was $150 for one night before taxes. We were traveling with an 88 year old that booked a room by himself when we arrived for check-in 1 of the 3 behind the desk truly knew what he was doing the other 2 had to keep interrupting him to get questions answered hince slowing down the check-in process (all 3 were pleasant though). We asked if a Senior Discount was offered we were told Yes but since we were under that block it didn't apply to our rooms. I asked if the normal room price was higher or lower I was told it could be either or. When getting to our room it appeared clean looked nice but nothing exceptional. My husband went to put his bag in the closet and found a coffee lid. In the morning while gathering all of our belongings I found 2 makeup compacts underneath the cloth chair proving that they had not moved chairs to vacuum previous to our stay. There was no type of continental breakfast offered the breakfast in the restaurant you could purchase for $6.99 a person and looked pretty equivalent to other hotels "Free" Breakfast. They did offer Free coffee and I believe around the clock not 100% sure. The shuttle we took to our wedding the driver was nice, got out the foot stool and assisted passengers whle entering and exiting the shuttle on the way back to the hotel this driver did not get out the foot stool but did offer his hand when he saw I was struggling a bit to get out of the van in my heels and dress. We did not use the pool are. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, the hot water was hot, the person who checked me out in the am was pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, I will probably not consider The Grand River Hotel when my travels bring me back to Grand Rapids.
Went for Sunday Night Funnies and karaoke. It was amazeballs and super fun.
I simply called to ask a few questions about the hotel and the amenities. The front clerk working was very very rude. Kept coughing very loudly into the phone and almost making noises like he was stuffed up or coming down with something, but I found it odd he kept yelling Woooohaaaa DADDY LOVES COLUMBIA . Maybe there was an event happening but it was definately too loud of an environment for myself. I would not recommend this to anyone in the area.
We really appreciated the
housekeeping staff...very polite. The staff in the Landing was also very polite. We
liked the sleep number beds and the pool area.
Disappointing. Dirty room, musty smell, overpriced. Unprofessional staff, not in an ideal location. Elevator malfunctions. Trust the review; I didn't and my family and I suffered as a result.
service and staff were very kind and good. The rooms were decent.
Stayed here for the Seger concert, staff were very polite especially the bar and breakfast staff. Room was clean, the halways were clean, just a lovely place.
Rooms were clean, location nice. Free parking with shuttle.
My family stayed at the Grand River Hotel 6/7/2019-6/9/2019 for a State Cheer Competition that was being held nearby. I could nearly pick apart the entire stay, but will only give some highlights as I have never witnessed anything like this and it all seems unbelievable.
We checked in and took our luggage to the room. We went to the pool area to enjoy the hot tub and pool. After an hour or so we returned to our room to find someone had helped themselves to our adult beverages and cigarettes. We didn't want it to ruin our weekend so everyone except for my wife left to go to the pool patio. While the rest of us were sunbathing at the patio a housekeeper walked into our room and surprised my wife. She noticed that we had more adult beverages and explained that she was a "working alcoholic" and asked for some. My wife was startled and told her to take it. My wife comes out to the pool patio and explained what just happened to so we all go back to the room and see what else is missing. My daughter's bras, and shorts were gone from the shower curtain rod they were drying on.
Went to eat at the hotel restaurant and they had one rude waitress that messes my daughter's order up three times and in the end brings her two salads charging her for both. We look at the window sill that attaches to the table and it's saturated with dead bugs. After paying the bill I informed the hotel night audit of the bugs and that it needed to be cleaned up.
The Grand River Hotel needs it's staff to do their jobs, the floors were filthy in the pool area and several guests slipped from it being slippery. Managers were rude and uncaring of any issues.
There was only one person- Antonio, at the hotel that helped us out and went out of his way to be genuinely interested and care for not only us but other families staying for the cheer competition. Antonio would help a family with whatever they needed and would instantly get reprimanded buy the managers- night audit and a thicker Latino manager in front of all the guests. Nobody could figure out why he was getting in trouble when he was the only one running around there helping people while completing his duties.
Last night we stayed there I wake up to what sounds like a male and female fighting and a baby screaming until it all went silent suddenly. The next day as we're leaving an army of Grand Rapids PD are all the way around the front of the building.
We couldn't wait to come home.
Very clean, and free WiFi. But no free breakfasts. You can pay less and get free good at a cheaper motel.
No complaints. The hotel is in a great location and the room was clean and comfortable.
There was a big party next to our room we notified the front desk. They informed them to be quiet and was never ask to leave kid's had no sleep do not recommend this place to anyone.
A pretty decent place to stay with pretty river views from our 2nd floor room. Everything was clean and the hotel concierge very friendly! Pool/hot tub area was also clean and toasty warm! I'd stay here again.
