Obviously had outstandingly beautiful art and clean facilities surrounding the art, unfortunately I was super let down by the cafe and one staff member in particular (the others were lovely). For a place filled with such valuable beauty I would have expected the food and drinks at the cafe to be at least 'good', not just 'eh'...
The water features create such an amazing atmosphere. I wish there were more areas to sit and study within the building to cafe. It is very inspiring being surrounded by such masterpieces.

Meh. A lot of space..and walking.. with nothing much to look at. The river lounge was nice to look out the windows. And there was a circular room on level 2 that had projectors and a changing light /nature show on the walls. That was good. Except for the kid who kept running around the room with his hands all over the wall catching the images. Artwork was painted on the walls too, and it was supposed to be a quiet space. Ironic, when a staff member asked my husband to carry our backpack instead of putting it on his shoulder. It was museum policy so as not to damage art! Seriously ..the walkways are wide as well, and art has barriers mostly and ..more guards.

The special exhibits I think are a bit pricey and seemed like a waste of money. Almost $50 for family of 4 to see some exhibit on river systems and conservation of water...hmmm..nah... more snoozefest.

One of the true gems of Brisbane. Four levels of museum curated artistic bliss. There is a nice book store and gift shop on the way in, which also sells themed items from whoever the main artist on showcase is. On a recent visit in 2018, really enjoyed seeing the works of Australian artist Vincent Namatjira. There is a cafe with river views on the lower level.

The gallery is always a delight to visit, Peta-Marie greeted us upon entry today, she was extremely helpful and kind.

While I always love the artwork here, I found the diversity and international variety of their exhibits are delightful.

The staff are a credit to the gallery. They are always on hand to assist with the history and motive of the artists. Directing you to certain aspects that if you are not an artist (like myself) you might overlook. This makes the experience of your visit much more enjoyable.

I love that you are able to photograph the work and plagues, so that you can do more research when you get back home.

Fantastic gallery. Whatever exhibits are showing it's always worth it. Even just for the space and the building itself. The curators seem to have a focus on really interactive, engaging collections which really draw people in. The gift shop is also excellent

Shame you can't carry bags or have food or even a coffee. Usually, the exebitions are pretty good and that makes up for it. A good way to spend your day followed by going to the town hall or mall etc.

The best is to go there, it's free and there are a lot of quirks you might like :-)

To be honest, underwhelmed is an understatement. One star for being free. For such a significant structure it certainly is empty of anything interesting. That's a lie. There are a couple interesting helmets. Poorly painted ones with no real effort in the brush strokes. But that is all. What you will find is an endless processing line of white guilt and anti-colonialism. No one with an education above year 6 would agree that by todays standards colonialism is a good thing, but does anything bordering on creative these days NOT saddle up next to white guilt? The motorcycle display looked interesting, but the exhorbenent pricing ruled it out for my family. That's half our weekly food budget. So my recommendation is to go straight to the ACTUAL art gallery where post modern socialists haven't crept in and contaminated the displays. You'll find portraits from three centuries ago that amaze even the common man/woman/+ -/ with their level of detail and depth of culture. A trip to the Gallery of Modern Art is a sure monstrous let down and disappointment.

I've had the privilege of going there quite a few times in my life. During school and also the last couple of years independently as a free thinking mind. Firstly the architecture itself is incredible. Both my parents are architects so I feel like I can judge accordingly, however even knowing nothing about design you can't help but be taken aback by the giant overhanging awnings at each corner, plus the huge panels of glass spanning the outer walls.

Easily accessible by car, or bus. Facilities are clean. It can be busy but we went on a weekday so it wasn t too bad. We went to see the Yayoi Kasuma exhibition and it was really fascinating.

GoMA is a really cool place to go where the entry is free and you can spend as long as you like looking at fantastic works of art. If you see something you love, on the way out you can buy a print. The prints are an excitingly affordable $5 a pop, I bought 4 the last time I visited and they are beautiful. Really worth a visit if you are looking for cool places to go on a budget and even if you aren't.

Actually on this visit I went to the GoMA Rooftop Garden Function Centre. It is a delightful location overlooking the Brisbane River and the Go Between Bridge. Great location for functions especially on a hot summer evening.
