Disclaimer: My most recent visit to Post 390 was during restaurant week.

With that out of the way, Post 390 is a very nice place. When you walk in you feel like you stepped into a very fancy and classy joint with a laid back atmosphere. The food is good and the drink selection is plentiful. That said, the reason I am writing this review is because the Cookies I received as my dessert were easily the best cookies I have ever eaten (Sorry grandma). I recommend you check this place out for lunch, as it is a great way to spend a break.

Unfortunately this is not a pleasant memory. Not ...

Unfortunately this is not a pleasant memory. Not long ago, within the past 3 months, my girlfriend and I were dining at Post 390 in Boston's Back Bay. Nestled on the corner of Stuart and Clarendon Street, Post 390 is beautifully located next to the John Hancock tower, Copley Square, and just across the street from Hotel 140 and The Lyric Stage Company of Boston where we regularly attend the theatre. Post 390 is an upscale trendy casual restaurant with a modern lively feel. The colors are rich and dark and the bar is a beautiful granite. Typically we will come in for a cocktail before a show, but this evening we sat down for dinner. The hosts were more than friendly and took us to a two top in the bar area. The table was a very comfortable high-top; however, throughout the meal the bar area began to pour into the seating area and became so crowded we were forced to rush our meal and get out of the way. Knowing the location, it would have been easy for a manager to escort this large drinks only group to the upstairs bar which is more private, but this never happened. Our server Shaun was a real friendly guy, he began the service promptly and offered many suggestions for beverages. I ended up going with a Smoke beer which you can't find just anywhere. I am a huge fan of beer, and home brew as a side passion. He spoke very confidently about the styles of beer they carried. My girlfriend loves champagne cocktails and he turned her on to one of their house specialties. The drinks were delivered promptly and lived up to both of our expectations. Shaun then began to take our order and we informed him that she has a Cilantro allergy and had a question about there being cilantro in the salsa on their Mahi Mahi entree or if they could serve it without the salsa. Shaun checked with the kitchen and told us the salsa was pre-made and did contain Cilantro but assured her that it would be served with no Salsa and that the flavor would not be compromised. I ordered their fish and chips which are just so well done, that I get them more often than not. Our food arrived after an acceptable wait, and we began to eat. She asked me to taste her Mahi Mahi as she thought she could see salsa on the plate. Indeed there was. We sent it back with Shaun who apologized that the salsa (with cilantro) had been served with the Fish. At this point I began to question why a manager hadn't confirmed our allergy notification before the order was finalized, and how a chef could possibly send out a food allergy order without triple checking that it would not harm the guest. The food went back to the kitchen with Shaun and we waited and waited for it to return. 10-15 minutes later her fish was returned without cilantro, no manager checked in with us or apologized for the major inconvenience or danger in having served a dish that had a food allergy. I had finished my meal, and tried to share some fries with her as we waited, and it was uncomfortable to sit while she tried to rush her meal as the bar area became more and more crowded. We received no final apology from Shaun as we quickly asked for the check, no discounts, coupons, or comps were offered us. We paid and hurried out of the crowded bar area. We were severely disappointed in this visit, and understand it was not Shaun's fault, but the management never stepped in to help solve the issue. We love this restaurant and will be returning; however, we hope next time they follow a more structured food allergy protocol as it is of the most importance when dining out.

A spacious and clean bar/restaurant with friendly staff and an impressive selection of beers, but a bit lacking in personality/atmosphere. I came here with a group on a Saturday night. Beer ranges from Miller High Life bottles to high end craft brews. Our group ordered flat breads, calamari, and the mac & cheese. I didn't try any of it but it all looked pretty good.

Post 390 is easily forgettable, though, a little too upscale/bland for my tastes. I would recommend to someone looking for a nice restaurant/bar in Back Bay, though.

Poor service for a private party event

Poor service for a private party event
Inattentivness to our event and party causing complaints by our guess
NOT well coordinated
Prob better service and care on regular table even though our server tried but appeared overwhelmed with other duties
Not worth trying again
Sorry to say left my wife crying in the disappointment

Happy to say Post 390 responded very favorably and sincerely apologized for our experience. Had discussed the matter with my wife with sincere empathy and refunded us 100% with an complimentary invitation to sister restaurant for 6 guest... truly appreciate the gesture and interaction....KUDOS to the ESTABLISHMENT for taking the ownership/ 5 STARS to them

Between tavern and dining menus you will find something to suit your palate. I had crab cakes which were flavorsome and a half rack of ribs. Half rack was plenty. Nice ribs, meaty, lean but not dry and some smokey flavor and a barbecue sauce that complemented and did not overwhelm. Service was very attentive and efficient. Extensive wine list if ordering a bottle. Selection by the glass was skimpy by comparison but covered the basics. Not busy on Sunday evening. Reasonable value for money.

Stopped in on Valentine s Day for a reservation close to the end of the night. What a mistake this place was.

The prefixe menu with wine pairings for two ended up being $230 which is fine if the food is up to par. However my order of the ny steak and croquettes was nowhere near worth this price tag. The steak was suppose to be medium rare but the steak came out practically mooing. The outer edges of the steak were cooked ok but the middle was very rare. The steak came with (3) fried croquettes that came as a side. I but into one and instantly was surprised that it was still frozen. I cut into the second and felt it, that was also frozen. Why would you send out frozen food? Is no one quality checking the food as it comes out? I asked our waitress to speak to a manager but no one ever showed up as I found it crazy that I m spending $75 for a prefixe menu where I m being served frozen food that I can warm up better in my home microwave.

When it came to dessert, one of the choices was the creme brule. It obvious they are cutting corners here to save time on a busy Valentine s Day. The brule came out and the supposedly torched sugar top did not come out warm or even crunchy. It was a soggy top as if the brule were all pre torched en masse to speed up dessert service.

Hey, you know what that s ok though. You live and you learn and I ll be voting with my wallet to make sure I never step foot in this establishment again and make sure others I know are made aware to take their hard earned money elsewhere.

Post 390 puts a contemporary twist on the traditional tavern experience, with seasonally inspired dishes that reflect Executive Chef Nick Deutmeyer s passion for fresh ingredients and unforgettable flavors.

On the first floor is the Tavern a casual but sophisticated menu and atmosphere, with a 25-seat bar and high top and banquette seating area, warmed by a beautiful four-sided fireplace. A massive wrought iron staircase connects the energy of the first floor with the Dining Room on the second floor.

Great ambiance - especially during the evening. The menu is daring, smart, and would intrigue both a local and world traveler. Food texture, doneness, and presentation are terrific to say the least. Our dinner was flavorful, the seasoning in every bite was just right. The kitchen definately outdoes the front of the house, paying attention to every detail in food presentation. Whereas the front of the house staff come off as inexperienced with even the very basics of upscale dining etiquette. Summary: Post 390 deserves five stars for food, three for service (if not less).

First sat at a table under an air vent that was blowing hard so server/manager offered a different table away from the vent. This was good. The move was seemingly not communicated properly. We had to flag down a server who reluctantly took our order but we were not checked on periodically as expected. Empty glasses and wandering thoughts.
The food was good but the service was noticeably lacking, perhaps due to the un-communicated move.

Ambience is excellent on the second floor, dark wood, cool view. Food is just ok. We had the pork shoulder with bourbon glazed pears and it was fine, but it was fairly expensive for fine. This was the most expensive and least impressive meal we had in the south end over the last 5 days.

I came a little late around 9 pm and they treated me like it was primetime. Host Alexi and my server Andrew made the experience first class. The chef put out quality meals tonight. This was my first time here and instantly became my favorite restaurant in boston

My favorite place to celebrate and to meet friends after work. The charcuterie is amazing. I ALWAYS order the chicken liver mousse. It's liquid crack. Sue, Henry, and Mike behind the bar are amazing people. They work very hard to make sure each patron feels cared for and receives an excellent drink. Unfortunately, Post is discontinuing their loyalty program, Postcards, where regulars could acquire and redeem points for items consumed.

I visited Post 390 for a corporate party. Comfortable space and convenient location. Impressive bar and draft menu. I found the drinks to be overpriced, a can of Sip of Sunshine ran $14. I only tried one appetizer, a flat bread and found it bland.

The food was delicious and well prepared, our waiter went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and was very attentive to our parents both in their late 80's. Despite the restaurant filling up with diners we were able to converse with each other without a problem. We had a wonderful time. Thank you!!!

We had our first anniversary dinner here. So good! The manager on duty moved us to a nicer table with a great view. My husband had the salmon which was a huge portion. I had the ribs with mashed potato instead of the fries. The food, staff, and atmosphere was superb.

Welcoming and cozy ambiance, fireplaces on both floors, and a bustling and lively crowd make for a fun night. Service was attentive, but felt rushed during their peak hours. Great wine options by the glass, half, or full bottle. Food has complex and developed flavors and textures.

Cool first floor restaurant with classic pub downstairs.
You can eat really well, from bar food to elaborate dishes while drinking a huge variety of different beer varieties.
The decor is great and in the bar there is an open fire pit which provides for coziness.

Main courses were excellent
Had rum cake for dessert, I expected a moist light cake, this was a bit dense and on the sweet side. Would not recommend it.

Apparently they only take Massachusetts IDs during graduation season. They made my team and I feel very uncomfortable and stressed and we hadn t even ordered the appetizers. This is my first time in Boston and this experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully the food doesn t do the same (sitting in the restaurant fuming as I type this).

No stars if possible. Manager and servers are condescending and rude.

Absolutely blown away by POST 390. First, the service was incredible, 10/10. When we sat, we were hesitant to ask to change seats to a corner booth and without hesitation, our request was met with smiles and helpful cheer.

The food was DELICIOUS! For apps we ordered the Wild Tuna Crudo and Pan-Fried Brown Butter Gnocchi. To our surprise, we were then given 2 of the Venison Tartare with Quail Yolks on the house! For our mains, I ordered the Snappy Lobster Fra Diavolo and my boyfriend had the Spice Rubbed Brandt NY Strip Steak... I'm not sure who's was better seeing as both were spectacular, really. So flavorful and unique.

We ordered the Banana Cream Pie, Stack of Chocolate Chip Cookies and the Boston Creme Cake - amazing dishes. To our surprise yet again, they were on the house which was way too generous of this restaurant! Throughout our meal, at least 3 employees checked up on us to see if we had any questions.

Not only will we be back, but I'll be recommending this to all my friends and family! From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the amazing staff and chef's at Post 390! Wishing you all happiness and success!

You don't get much better than this. I made a mistake with our reservations and booked it for the wrong night. In a crowded restaurant they were still able to seat us and provided us with a spectacular meal. I started with the sea scallops and a glass of albarino from Spain. The scallops were tender and delicious. My main course was the bacon Berkshire pork with bourbon glazed roasted chestnuts. I also ordered a side of smoked baby carrots with bourbon maple glaze. OMG. When I made everybody taste my meal with the carrots we all laughed because of the yummy noises we were making. Great experience...Thanks

The most okay-iest restaurant I've been to in a while: service was okay, food was okay, decor was okay. This isn't a complaint, and I would eat here again, but there was nothing "special" that made me think "oh yes, I'd come back here for that [insert food/drink/remarks on service here]!

I really liked this place. I was a little upset with my order of steak, it was quite expensive and I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and it was closer to the well done side of medium.

Great find. Lovely date night! Honestly would not have gone due to the price of the restaurant if not for a gift card. However we were pleasantly surprised to find that the amount of food was decent!! Took home leftovers! Their pork was delicious. The scallops tasted like bacon-crack, so savory. The crem brulee killed our stomachs... But we had to have it. We will be back!

This past week I made a reservation on OpenTable for a Thursday night. I noted on the reservation that it was a special night (reunion with a friend after many years). Despite the place being really jammed, everyone treated us with such grace and care. It was TRULY an amazing night of welcome gestures, fantastic service, great drinks and wine (Ramey Cab!!!!), and DELICIOUS food. We were greeted by a complimentary sparkling wine upon being seated. The STAFF! Every single person from the personable host, bus staff, food runner, our FANTASTIC waitress, and management were so genuine in their care and kindness. THANK YOU Post 390, you have a great thing going there, and know that it is recognized and appreciated.

I don't have a bad word to say about this place. We got seated at a great table by the window overlooking the street & Haley our waitress was on point all night. The beef tartare & the seared scallops were exceptional. Special thanks to the sommelier for the crab cake/champagne combo. After all that you know we had to get a few dessert and they didn't disappoint. Pumpkin cheesecake! Do yourself a favor and check Post 390.

Great ambiance but rather limited food menu. They were out of the entree I selected. I then asked for a medium well burger and it was probably the worst burger I've had in a while...very dry. I left most of it. Service wasn't great. Best thing in this place is the atmosphere.

This place has a nice upscaled atmosphere with fire in the middle of the dining room. The small booth they sat my party was comfy and cozy. The waiter was polite and knowledgable. Margarita was tasty, but it took quite long to be served even though the bar was not that busy. I ordered the steak medium rare. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. The price is not that bad if you compare it with NY's. I will certainly visit this place again.

Sunday brunch was delicious. We had a large group - 2 tables of 10. Servers were efficient and attentive. We, of course, had to take some time at the end to figure out the bill with credit cards and cash - annoying, yes, but it's going to happen with large groups. The main server was getting more and more visibly annoyed which was kind of offputting but understandable. We ended up leaving after brunch, walking around a bit and then stopping back in for a drink downstairs. We loved the bartender and enjoyed watching some baseball. There's a giant fireplace in the middle of the dining room downstairs that we definitely want to come back and visit during the winter months!
