Church 1410. Restored in 2006.
In 1809, Alexander 1, at the first Sejm of Finland (a class meeting of the peoples of Finland), proclaimed the creation of the Grand Duchy of Finland as part of the Russian Empire and alienation from Swedish lands.

This is an old cathedral but very nicely maintained. It is situated at some height hence visible and gives picturesque view when watched from the nearby hill. While of the Porvoo is a very beautiful old town which is conserved because of its colourful wooden houses. The environment around cathedral is very peaceful.

Beautiful, Porvoo is a small town about an hour from Helsinki. Very picturesque Porvoo.
A beautiful church. Great body. For children, there is a place where you can play and sketch if you can not sit on the bench during worship. The concerts always have a very special atmosphere.
A very nice town. Fabulous shops are crafts and antiques in the street parallel to the estuary, very good prices.

Beautiful cathedral in a historical town. Very small, 1 hr is more that enough to walk around. Autumn is very quiet, off season. Many cafes/hotels are closed.
Worth a visit there are many small shops that you can see.

It is a beautiful typical Finnish church and its era. We see a roof very impregnable and impressive.

This is much more impressive than you imagine it will be, that roof! Was open when we visited 12th June 2020, but parts roped off inside. Impressive large organ on display.
It was a surprise to find the church open and empty of visitors for a few minutes (a family arrived while I was inside). It must have been a refurbished medieval structure, modernized for use as a Protestant church. There were several interesting features, including a small replica of an ancient sailing ship that was hung from the ceiling. The prews were made of dark wood and were lined up in thick rows under a low ceiling, which was much lower than the central portion of the church.
An impressive looking old stone church on top of a hill next to the old town. The church was having a wedding, so there was no going inside. that is, the next time I saw something. The church yard looked well maintained and tidy.
