A place where the soul rests.

A place where the soul rests.
A peaceful place, exudes history.
Regardless of the time of year, a good place, there is always an atmosphere.

Very beautiful cathedral. Although Protestant, there is still a bust of Marie inside. There is a statue of Tsar Alexander, at that time allied with Napoleon (Treaty of Tilsit) against Sweden. This reminds us that Porvoo saw the birth of an autonomous Finland from Sweden (but attached to Russia) after negotiations in 1809. The independence of Finland dates from 1917.

Quaint place, the church itself emptomises the Finnish way of life. The town is picture perfect, loads of coffee shops lining the streets. Do check out the local chocolate shops, some really amazing chocolates to carry back home with you! The town also has some toy shops, toys with a Finnish touch

Frankly this church (cathedral) surprised me. As simple as beautiful. Definitely not very much publicized in the tourist guides of Finland. At first sight it does not look like a church. Remember that in Finland church doors are always closed, even when it is possible to enter.

Porvoo Cathedral can be said to be a church of churches both because of its long history and its magnificent style. The church has suffered hard over the centuries, most recently in the 2006 arson, but thanks to the rebuilding, the church is once again a great place for all visitors.
