VERY DISAPPOINTED! My 19 year old Daughter is a college student and lives in an off campus apartment. She adopted an amazingly loving dog from this shelter after the previous owner RELINQUISHED custody not once but 4 times! After several months of having this dog (who is very Leary of men) she gets a phone call from a man claiming to be the previous owner asking about the dog. The Pinellas County Animal Shelter GAVE this complete Stranger My Daughters Phone Number And Address!! Really???? When I called they said they are government and they are allowed to give out information. WHY? Now my Daughter is terrified this guy is going to show up at her apartment looking for the dog. He is already blowing up her phone. This man has no rights to this dog and should not have been given my Daughters private information! We will Never again adopt from there. Update: 7 mos later another person who claimes to have also owned this dog was given my Daughter information and contacted her. This is ridiculous! Tried calling them but no human answers

This is a sad but necessary place. I went to pick up my exes dog after he was taken to the hospital and the police took his dog there. I had to go through all the cages looking for his little Chihuahua poodle mix. Some of the younger dogs seemed ok with it but the looks on the older dogs faces, the ones who had been with their families for years is heartbreaking. You will want to take them all home. Helpful staff, clean facility but heavy smells though.

Super great organization outstandingly wonderful people for what it is they do and in the sheer amount of traffic that they get, every time I've had to do business with them it is been a relative pleasure. granted they are in the business to handle our disposable pet lifestyle so please take what they do with a grain of salt and a bit of humility who else would have the heart to do what they do daily...

Horrible is all I can say I've been to this shelter 3 times and the first time was to volunteer and after finding out that they weren't a non kill shelter I thought to myself I'll have non of that.
Th second time I found a dog in our apartment complex thinking I'm doing the right thing bringing her to this shelter I was so wrong all they did was put on a guilt trip that they only keep them a few days and they put them down. Wow you just can't make this stuff up. The dog was a sweet dog too. Happy ending the owner got her back that lived here I guess she could open the door herself.
This place is somewhere you don't want to go too myself I would much rather adopted from a non-kill shelter

Great. Staff were very helpful. I met and talked to a wonderful lady named Shirley. I had a bobcat in my backyard so I took this cat to Pinellas County Animal Services. Shirley helped me located the owner since the cat has microchip. I went to deliver the cat personally to the owner. I would like to thank you to your utmostcaring to the animals. More power to you all. Merry Christmas and God bless you all and the all animals you are caring.

A lost kitten took up residence in our condo's under-building parking garage, we contacted PCAS in hope they could catch it and get it adopted. The kitten is frightened and will not come near any of our residents therefore we are unable to capture it. To our surprise we were told they do not provide that service, but we could go to Harbor Freight, purchase a trap, capture the kitten, then take it to them or they would come and get it in a couple hours. Needless to say we are not going to purchase a trap for one little lonely kitten. What happened to Animal Services - these people use to be concerned for pets such as this kitten - now they just blow it off and expect others to do what they use to do. Nice that some of our tax dollars go to this service. We are doing what we can to protect this poor little thing and hope and pray it does not venture into traffic on a very busy street in front of our garages. We have contacted a group called Meow Now that may be able to help us for a $25 donation.

We adopted our fur baby from here 2 months ago and couldn t be happier with our decision. Our dog is a beautiful 5 year old who is full of the energy! She s an absolute sweetheart and we are so thankful to have been able to adopt her and make her a part of our family. She was already microchipped, up to date with shots, and spayed when we adopted her. She gets along very well with our kids and other dogs. We love her and the staff at Pinellas county animal services.

I adopted my dog Jeter there. The staff was professional, friendly, and all around awesome. I saw some heartbreaking situations, but their staff handled it like pros, treating animals, as well as humans with respect. Not to mention, I got the best dog ever there, I couldn't be happier.

Every staff member and volunteer we met were kind and patient while we deliberated on our future rescue dog. She had to stay a while longer due to kennel cough, but we were allowed to visit her just about every day. They took excellent care of our new baby.

The customer service was very great I did not have to wait long, I was greeted as soon as I walked thru the door and the rep was very kind and knowledgeable. It was kind of loud and you could hear animals making noises but that is expected.

Very friendly staff and volunteers. Animals are well cared for and they are supportive of letting you interact with them before having to fill out a lot of paperwork. Seem very supportive of seeing how the specific animal does with you and your family.
I look forward to our next visit.

Seemed to be a clean facility. People were "friendly" but didn't seem very compassionate. Although working with people is a big plus. I am sure they see things all the time. But then I think people are sceptical of them too.

Most of the staff I've encountered are very pleasant. I applaud the work they do, it is certainly not easy. The website is useful. I think the hours should be expanded to accomodate working families and ease the rush before close. Services offered here can't be beat by the price.
I once witnessed a family trying to owner surrender their dog. Circumstances I don't know, but I thought the staff member was unnecessarily rude to the mother. If i was her Id be very embarrassed to have my children witness that. I'm sure it was a hard decision for them and some people are careless and just abandon their pet. This lady was doing the right thing and deserved respect from the staff member.

High volume animal control center. They do great things but also handle very sad things so when you go, you can usually expect a long wait and a lot of tears and somebody PO'd about their dog being confiscated.

Very helpful and friendly staff but don t understand why I wasn t contacted or my dog Boo DiamondZ emergency contact wasn t contacted as well... Bc I didn t know where he was or what happened to him even though he is my registered service dog for emotional support for my PTSD and I was traumatized when he wasn t there and the Clearwater cops had told me they contacted my grandfather to come get the dog from my phone and when I went back thru my call log they literally spoke for 6 seconds and I don t believe that s enough time to tell an 86 year old man what was going on and where my dog would be and he ended up in good hands thank God Bc I would have been devastated if anything happened to my Pretty Boi Boo DiamondZ

They do a really good job in kepping the facility clean. I wish three things. 1) Water bowls would be nice out in the viewing yard areas. 2) different leashes. The loop neck hold ones stress out the dogs (they pull because they are excited to get out of thier cages) and tgese leashes stress them. last a biggie. 3) most dogs are In the pit bull family in this family. I wish the facility would educate often about pit bulls and how older ones If not brought up around children should only be homed with a couple or single adult that will give them special attention. I have a pit rasied with three children. Children who are taught to respect her. Pits are so amazing. But...they need direction love and respect and they will give you so much more. Thank You

Give it a shot. Don't shop; adopt.

Meet Rosalita (the pitbull), our miracle dog

Meet Rosalita (the pitbull), our miracle dog

My husband brought Lita home a few weeks ago, after she was abandoned at his work... adjusting our life to take in a rescue dog has been pretty crazy, but the past couple of days have proven to be the hardest. Lita has bad separation anxiety and eats everything in sight... she had an episode while we were out of town this weekend and we came home to her being unable to eat or drink without throwing up.

What happens next is going to sound like a made up story, and I still am unsure if this is real life but it seems to be in-line with everything else in 2020

I dropped Lita off at the vet on Tuesday and tests / x-rays showed that Lita would need emergency surgery that day to remove a foreign object in her intestines, which would likely cost thousands of dollars and she may not even live through it

I told her goodbye as my heart broke into a million pieces.

Thanks to the GIANT HEARTS of staff at Pinellas County Animal Services, they decided to perform surgery on Lita and she is now recovering!!!!

Turns out at some point before we adopted her she ingested a nerf toy and it was stuck in her intestines for what could have been months, but thankfully she has no intestinal damage and should have no long term problems!

I am SO THANKFUL to have her back home with us!!! Who would have thought that the pound of all places would save our little angel

The reason there are so few animals to be adopted ...

The reason there are so few animals to be adopted now is because they are charging $75.00 to turn in animals. They are putting animals in danger by charging a fee. I called to bring in my cat thinking I was doing the responsible thing because I had adopted him from there and can't care for him. I wanted to give him the best chance I could to get a home. I was told about the fee and when I explained I couldn't afford it and I have heart problems and having a hard time caring for him I was told I was an irresponsible pet owner. I told the girl I would handle it and hung up after saying a few choice words. The next day I was visited by a guy who said the girl sent him to check on the cat saying they thought I was going to "harm" the cat. He saw the cat was VERY well cared for and told me to try other places. This place doesn't care about the animals....they want the money. I'm not an irresponsible pet owner...just the opposite...I thought I was making the right choice for my cat. They are hurting countless animals who will now be dumped instead of turned in. I will try to find a home for my cat ( he is sweet and beautiful) because he deserves more than I can give him due to my health. I love this cat and only wanted help placing him in a good home.

All the animals I was interested in were sneezing, coughing, and had "soft serve icecream" poop. Then the worker went through their actual list of ailments and treatments since arriving and I decided that my current cat's health is more important than bringing home a sick baby from here. The cages were all very clean.
