I was in town a few months ago visiting dear friends of mine. My girlfriend kindly introduced me to this fabulous venue. I state fabulous because I was stunned by the gorgeous gardens on exiting the car. I loved the stone walkway, the hedges and the greenery. I can only imagine just how stunning everything is if you were to have a party here at night time with the lights on... it's that kind of place.
The building itself is just lovely. Fireplace, wooden tables with configurations to sit couples through to larger groups and these fantastic table settings for tastings; everything was very well-thought out. And the scent in the air was of roasted chicken and olives that day (with a touch of rosemary... you have no idea just how tantalising that smell can be).
I thought we were going in for a tasting, and I do love my vino (white, red, bubbles, dessert, whereas my girlfriend is more a whites and bubbles lassie). Needless to say, we ended up staying for a light meal (because their menu is to die for) and an extra glass or two of wine. Don't shame us; neither of us were driving!
Absolutely fantastic service. As I'm from Queensland, you bet I also ordered a case of wine delivered (who wouldn't! Absolute madness) and I loved the kind suggestion I received at both the table and seconded at the counter from a different staff member I could buy a cold bottle or two from the fridge to take back on my journey (I was temporarily working in the area).
The staff here at Philip Shaw were incredibly knowledgeable, gave great advice (including allowances for dietary considerations for our table), and stunned me into gaping fish mode at their thoughtful suggestions for shipping and takeaways for a travelling worker. I simply cannot thank Philip Shaw enough. I've already ordered another case for gifts. Brilliant. And the Character Series are marvellous!
