Had an amazing time. The wine tour was worth the travel! Gabby was amazing, we learnt so much about wines and the wine selection was amazing. Also hand picked!

What a beautiful experience to dine at this restaurant....the service was exceptional, ambiance was amazing and the food was fresh, delicious and presented elegantly.
The Chef gave us a tour of their wonderful vegetable garden and we met the gentleman who looks after the growing and harvesting of the vegetables. The knowledge and passion these people had for the farm to plate experience was evident and I would highly recommend Margan s Restaurant to anybody who is after high quality dining in the Hunter Valley.
Dinner at Margan was a present from my wife for my birthday. Nothing to do with the food itself but I loved the building's architecture. My wife and I had taken the set tasting menu (one meat, one vegetarian) and I would recommend for anyone to do the same, along with the wine pairing. Stunning! 90% Of the menu is grown on the actual property. The service was prompt without being overbearing, casual without be familiar. An enjoyable experience!
Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food.
Great food and experience - Wines pretty good too !!
Really lovely lunch at the Margan Restaurant I would highly recommend, great service and lovely setting.
Lunch here was simply an amazing experience. It highlighted the beautiful produce grown at Margan as well as showcasing the elegance of locally sourced ingredients. The wines were beautifully paired with the meal coming together as more than the sum of their parts. The staff here were amazing going above and beyond. I highly recommend this experience to any one who loves great food and wine.
From the time we stepped in, the friendly ladies at Margan spoiled us and Sake (our mini dachshund). Our wine tasting & charcuterie board were so generous, we almost didn't want to lift our butts after the tasting's finished. Even Sake kept wanting to return inside. The charcuterie board is more than plenty for 2 people, and everything served are delicious.
We love the semillon and the three shiraz (including the tempranillo blend which we think is something else). Needless to say, we purchased a few. Who can blame us!
Our party of eight enjoyed an amazing meal for a sixtieth birthday on Saturday night.
We chose a set menu with matching wines for each course.
The restaurant, atmosphere, food and service was on point.
Made for the best night.
Outstanding experience as always. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting and lunch experience.
The exceptional service underpinned why this is a must visit location in the hunter.
Wines from the broke/Fordwich region are receiving some much deserved attention, as the quality in this vintage are fantastic.
We look forward to returning.
Lunch today was absolutely amazing. The service was Impeccable, the wine was Fine, the food was simply Devine. Wow is an understatement. Just a wonderfully perfect experience.
Some of the best food you can get anywhere in the Hunter Valley, combined with spectacular views and a beautiful vineyard. A perfect spot for a wedding as the ceremony, photos + reception can all be held onsite. As a wedding photographer, I never get sick of coming back here!
Had a wonderful experience today with the beautiful Miriam as our host. Showing us around the winery with clear explanation of the running of a winery.
The food was top quality, highly recommend to go.
Friendly staff right from the start with a warm welcome.
Our visit today with Andrew & Nicole was sensational and will stay with me for many years. A stunning setting, beautiful food, delicious and incredibly structured wines. Thank you
Food was delicious, service impeccable and they were so accomodating when we brought our 9month old with us. So refreshing to be able to enjoy delicious food and wine and not feel guilty for being a parent. We cannot rave enough about the Margan restaurant!
We had the 5 course decussation at margan wines! The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. The authenticity in the food with the home grown produce really made this whole experience. I can't wait to come back again!
Fantastic dining with lovely matched wines. I visited during Hunter Valley Wine & Food festival and took advantage of the 100m meal concept, with ingredients and wine sourced within 100m of the table (and utterly delicious). Check out their giant veggie patch while you're there.
Had lunch at Margan wasnt sure what to expect and definitely not disappointed. Lovely fresh well presented food and pleasant helpful staff. We tried the 2015 Chardonnay. I must admit havent drunk chardonnay sonce the 1980s but a beautiful drop. Thank you for your hospitality and fine dining
Stunning food and (of course) wine in a beautiful room. Thank you also for the wonderful service!
We sat outside for lunch looking up at mountains of Pokolbin State Forest in front of a great garden and their own orchard. The sun was out and there couldn't have been a nice spot to take it in.
Their staff were very friendly and quite knowledgeable about the meals and what wines were best to match. They are very keen on fresh, local ingredients and the meals delivered fresh flavour which was enjoyable. They had pretty small bread rolls though.
The wines here were delicious and they have a very good selection. Their Chardonnay was not too oakey, which is often a drawback for me of Chardonnay.
Paddock to plate is at the heart of Margan and it has a real family feel to it.If they don't grow it themselves, they source it locally. The Cellar door was obviously built with the thought of future generations in mind aamd it has a magnificent chateau like feel to it with a real Australian twist.
The wine is excellent and the restaurant is a 1 hatter with multiple awards from good food and wine. The degustation is well put tother and we'll matched with Margan and local wines.
Worth the taxi out to Broke if you are staying around Pokolbin.
I have been to Margans on 2 occassions, with one of those being my 40th birthday. Staff, food, location and wine could not have been any better. I really enjoyed the 100m meal which we had in June 2015, see if it is on the menu definately worth it
Delicious food and staff are so friendly. My husband and I went twice in one weekend. Truffle degustation and lunch-time Margan degustation did not disappoint t.
Beautiful wines. Dining outside is a lot nicer than sitting inside. Food is beautiful. Love walking around the grounds and seeing the big chickens! Great to have the local produce on sale as well. Great house bread, cured butter.
We visited Margan for our 10th Wedding Anniversary in Feb 2020 (married at Margans) and new head chef Joey's menu is simply amazing. With ingredients grown at Margans, the tasting menu (with matching wines) is highly recommended and well worth the money - a journey of flavours, seriously good! The intimate setting allows you to enjoy a beautiful meal in a beautiful location - along with Hannah and her amazing team - you won't be dissappointed. The Margan family does an amazing job and their food and wine continues to impress us every year we return. Many thanks from Luke and Angela.
Another great tasting at Margan. Lovely setting. Great ambience. And the wine hostess are extremely knowledgeable. Don t forget to try the vermouth!
Hospitable, comfortable and good service. Wines are nice. Gourmet food available
Absolutely incredible experience every time. Highly recommend trying the degustation menu with matched wines. The food is delicious, creative and fresh. Definitely worth the trip from Newcastle/Sydney if you are after something special. Also, make sure you visit the kitchen garden and say hi to the happy chooks
Attended a wedding here and it was the most magical experience. Returned to try the seasonal menu which was out of this world. Staff are absolutely delightful. Wonderful place in the world.
Outstanding one of the best places been to great views
Absolutely fantastic dining experience, wine tasting right on your table and great food. Expect service waiting during peak period tho, also best to book before your visit.
Highly recommend a visit here if you in the area, food was *chefs kiss*. The whole experience was elevated thanks to Pierre, his knowledge and recommendations were above and beyond. Pierre is fire!
Personal, friendly, passionate service amongst amazing atmosphere and a garden kitchen forming an amazing menu. Great local products.
We've been to Margan a few times over the years and it's always amazing. The food and service are top notch and views are gorgeous.
We had the tasting menu with matching wines on the back porch area yesterday and it was such a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Can't wait to come back auxi !n
Excellent experience doing the wine tasting at the cellar door! The staff were incredibly knowledgable. They also give you a discount on purchasing their wines after your tasting.
Fantastic locally grown food, great service. Would come back anytime!
My partner took me to the restaurant for my birthday recently. From the moment we arrived, we felt very well looked after. From a lovely lady from my hometown of Leeds to the lady who talked us through the menu, then the amazing and incredibly knowledgeable sommelier and of course the incredible food and views, this is one of the best dining experiences we ve had. Thank you! We will definitely be back!
Great cellar door. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Broke
Myself and a couple of friends have been for lunch a few times in the past year, and it has always been good. We went last Saturday and it was very good. Can't comment on the wines as we didn't partake but the food was really exceptional.
DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS. I gave them my phone number to book a table 4 years ago, and they still try and call me regularly, despite multiple requests to stop. Your postvisit marketing is disgusting, despite your lovely food.
Called to book a time for dinner and the hostess laughed at my inquiry. Quite glad it was booked if that is how they treat customers.
Amazing dining experience! Expensive menu options but you get what your pay for and you don't have to pay for the most expensive thing on the menu to enjoy yourself. Looking forward to the next time we find ourself in the hunter so we have an excuse to come here again. Amazing views and location as well.
Great wine tasting experience. A bit of a wait between wines, but they were extremely busy at the time.
Lunch set menu has some delicious dishes and staff were lovely. Grounds are beautiful and worth a visit after lunch.
Overall the food was middle of the road, and the gnocchi was very good. Disappointing that they were advised of a dietary requirement a week in advance, yet subbed a main course with a single root vegetable. Wasn t great value, and a bit rigid.
We highly recommend the Ultimate Margan Experience- a vineyard, winery & garden tour followed by an award winning degustation lunch. Miriam and Pierre, Jenna & the team are exceptional and all the more enjoyable by their knowledge & friendly approach. Made our visit very special. Thank you Margan team.
Delicious wine, they specialise in Italian varieties. Worth extra half an hour drive from main cellar doors. One of the most beautiful property in the Hunter Valley- you fell like you are in Tuscany over there!
Possibly the best restaurant in the Hunter.
The food is grown in their own garden and you can have a little walk around it.
The chickens are very cute as well.
Do try their new cocktails and if you want an outstanding wine grab a bottle of their claret (blend of cab sav and merlot).
Great! Lovely wines, good service and great food - just wish there was a little more!
Fantastic venue. Spent the weekend in Broke with friends & came through for a wine tasting. Landed up doing a cheese & charcuterie Board and enjoyed a bottle of their Rose - beautiful scenery of the surrounding vineyards, lovely service & off course great wine. Had been about 5yrs ago & it s as good if not better, next time will definitely do a lunch booking at the restaurant.
Just had a great wine tasting afternoon. Good wines, excellent service and no pressure to buy. Good rundown on the wines without being over the top. They are not just dog friendly but extremely dog friendly with well spaced outdoor tasting areas.
The atmosphere is on point for the region with knowledgeable staff and an excellent chef. The experience is immersive and you leave feeling satiated, not stuffed, which is what I would expect from such a wonderful establishment.
We had a fantastic Sunday by the fire with Pierre guiding us through a tasting of Margan s fabulous wines accompanied by a delicious charcuterie board of local produce. Extremely impressed by many of their whites and reds as well. Being longterm South Australian Shiraz fans, the quality of Margan s reds was a welcome surprise. We left with a mixed case and a grin from ear to ear.
Thanks to Pierre and to the Margan experience!
Next time we look forward to dining with you too.
Highly recommended.
Excellent food with incredible matching wines; great atmosphere and very friendly/helpful staff.
Lovely wines and great conversation with our hostess. $10 per person if you don t buy a bottle
Such a wonderful experience- the staff are so friendly and helpful and the food and wines are delightful!!
The food was lovely and the setting was beautiful. Whilst the staff were lovely however little things like having to ask twice for a wine menu could have been better.
long way to go for lunch, but well worth it ,
the truth is had to go to cesnock anyway.
Beautiful location. Worth the extra drive. Nice to be somewhere not congested with tourism stuff. Just a good winery with a good restaurant in beautiful surrounds. Take a walk through their produce garden. It s A+. Also, has some very lovely chickens. Oh, also has lovely wine ;)
This place is very intimate as it has a small number of tables. The ambience is perfect for date night and the staff are friendly and know their menu quite well. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. It's amazing that most of the food comes straight from the winery's garden and on to your plate. Loved the degustation menu.
With a couple of friends we visited Margan last weekend. The service was excellent. The premium wine tasting was so good that we ended buying a couple of boxes. Jenna from the team was impeccable, so friendly and so knowledgeable. Really recommended experience at Margan. Next time we will make time to try the restaurant as it looked amazing.
The staff here are excellent. Quality of service is exemplary.
Iconic location with wonderful staff and produce. Wine's reputation precedes it.
Where do I start? Staff, food, wine, location. Wonderful, wonderful place. Wonderful memories. Will be back of course.
Fantastic experience! The food was superb with beautiful creative dishes excellantly presented and the wines here at Margan are delicious!
My only negative would be that one of young the wait staff was a bit "snooty".
Definately a must during your visit to the Hunter.
Exceptional service combined with a great space and views. The food was great with amazing fresh produce. Wine list offers a choice between their own wines at cellar door prices and a curated international wine list by the winemaker with an excellent selection.
been here twice now and the experience is exceptional. broke is lovely.
Thoroughly impressed with their degustation menu - a true culinary adventure. Excellent service, great setting. Had a fantastic time and I'm certainly you will, too.
Fantastic fine dining in picturesque part of Hunter Valley. Friendly staff, great wines and worth the extra travel time.
Took a tasting with platter. Interesting approach but maybe a bit rigid. Only 6 to taste per customer so hard to do comparisons.
Amazing dinner and wine. We had the set menu and they very understanding of dietary requirements and knowledgeable of all aspects of the dinner. Great wine pairing and a great way to experience the winery.
Stunning venue where we had our gala event to end out two day conference. Amazing food and wines.
An amazing experience! Friendly and attentive staff, a tour of the gardens with the head chef and a tasting menu that is hard to beat. Very deserving of their Hat. The flavours in each dish really complemented each other, the lamb was tender juicy and cooked to perfection. Ginger ice cream with stewed apples is a must for desert lovers, so too is the choc-mint semifreddo with chocolate ice cream. Take someone close for a special lunch, allow plenty of time to relax and savour the experience. Even our puppy was welcomed with a big bowl of water!
Beautiful Food, Beautiful Service & Excellent Wine. Enjoyed my sisters 27th birthday dinner on Saturday night. If you are visiting the Hunter & are looking for FINE DINING you must definitely choose Margans.
Very nice venue - elegant but in a lovely setting. Tried a couple of their reds but only Cab Sav I really enjoyed. Dry whites also gorgeous! Had a really delicious hazelnut tiramisu as well...
Fantastic service and awesome wine but degustation was disappointing and lacked flavour.
I think the flavour combinations would have been great but lacked depth and seasoning. For a fairly expensive dinner price, we weren't impressed with any of the courses, they were more pretentious then they needed to be and they lacked creativeness. I'd definitely go again for the wine and the service was fantastic!
My only tip would be to pre-arrange a taxi home as the wait time can be 1-2 hours.
Prices: $135 for a 5 course degustation with matching wines (check out my blog for photos)
I would describe the Margan estate as elegant with a touch of posh. Margan's is a very popular restaurant and cellar door in the Broke Fordwich region of the Hunter Valley. Margan's is full of very easy to drink wine and you will be very tempted to buy lots of wine (which I did on my way home).
I had a sample of the great food from Margan's. The photo above and below was an array of fresh garden vegetables with mascarpone. This was matched with a taste of the 2013 White Label Semillon and also a taste of the 2009 Aged Release Semillon. Light, fruity and just so easy to drink. It was just a touch of heaven.
The 2009 Aged Release Semillon was so delicious that I went back and bought a bottle.
The main (above) consisted of Beef, Leek, Potato and Bone Marrow. The beef was perfectly cooked and was melt in your mouth. The reds to accompany this main were lovely. The 2011 White Label Barbera and the 2011 Special Release Claret. It was not a heavy, full bodied wine - it was a beautiful medium bodied wine that just brought out the flavours in the meat. Another one to buy - The Barbera.
The dessert was the Zokoko chocolate which had a dash of coconut, malt with a side of milk sorbet. Delicious! The perfect sweet treat to conclude the meal. The very sweet 2011 Margan Botrytis Semillon was very easy to drink.
The highlight of Margan's has to be that all their food (aside from protein) is all sourced from their garden which you can take a walk through! You can taste the difference with ultimate freshness exploding in your mouth. The Cellar room is so very pretty and is a popular wedding reception location.
I was able to sample a lot of delicious wines. The shop was also gentle and beautiful. I want to go again.
Magnificent property. Beautiful food very noligable people
Friendly staff and definitely dog friendly, as opposed to dog tolerant.
Only give them 3 stars because I feel $10 per person a bit rich for tasting 6 wines.
The winery provided the perfect winters day. We booked the 3 course lunch and tour and it did not disappoint. The head chef showed us the produce that is grown on the estate and served on your plate, ranging from veg, fruits, olives and meat. All of the wines are grown and made on the estate too. I would highly recommend Margan Wines to anyone!!
The perfect way to finish a girls weekend away in the Hunter. We couldn't get in until the 2pm sitting but it was well worth it. Whilst others may have been in traffic on the way back to Sydney, we enjoyed the delicious two course meal which was so sublime we ate the garnishes. The experience was made even more memorable by the very friendly staff who made it feel like we were having a long lunch at someone's home. Highly recommended for any occasion (and we managed to make it home by 7pm).
You must eat here if in the area. Amazing well balanced menu, attentive and educated staff and to top it off we have a well behaved dog and she was allowed to sit with us.
We did the wine tour with degustation. I love margan. Great food and fantastic service. All fresh from the garden(after the tour of there impressive 1 acre patch) would definitely recommend this experience.
Excellent food, amazing staff. Totally worth the price
The people, service, venue, and food are phenomenal.
I took a group of 6 to celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary on Friday the 9th of March. A couple of days before I had a brief phone call to ensure everything was still in order and mentioned it was a 40th and the names of the couple as a part of expressing my excitement for the evening. Well they took note of my minor mention and gave my friends a wonderful gift, plus they made up an additional large dessert on a beautiful plate with Happy 40th Anniversary written in chocolate sauce! We were so so happy, and I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to the staff for the way they looked after us that evening. My good friends wrote me a wonderful note expressing their thanks to me, and saying how they believed the evening out was a fitting way to celebrate their significant occasion. Thank you thank you thank you.
Sincerely,
Jo Stacey
