DO NOT BUY FROM Oakville Honda
DO NOT BUY FROM Oakville Honda
On December 9th I went and looked/test drove a 2011 Audi S4 they had in their pre-owned lot.The ad had been posted on the 6th. Although I agreed to purchase this certified pre owned vehicle, I voiced more than once to Kumaran (the sales man that showed me the car) that the vehicle did in fact need a set of tires put on, this was written down on the price breakdown of the car that I went over with Kumaran. He re assured me multiple times that whatever the vehicle needed to pass a safety would be handled before I picked up the car. There were a few little things I had also wished be done, such as the missing grille badge and the interior door handle that had the chrome plating lifting showing a raw-sharp edge. These are items I expected would be done regardless on an $18,000 vehicle. I brought a cheque to the dealership on the 10th. The car was not ready on the 12th, but the 16th (10 days from when I left my deposit). The vehicle miraculously managed to accumulate 800km in the time of list, test drive and pickup. My insurance was already active on the vehicle as of the 12th. I was finally notified that the car was indeed ready for pickup on the 16th. I had a friend take the day off of work to drive me up to Oakville, and when I arrived the car still had the same bald tires that I looked at the car with. I was under the impression the safety was done in house, but it was actually done at UD Auto INC in Etobicoke. Kumaran directed me over to the Used Car Sales Manager, Mike who informed me that "if what I was looking for was a set of tires out of the scene I made, it was not going to happen". He testified that the technician had completed the safety, so it was fine. He had no interest in inspecting the vehicle personally, nor viewing pictures. Mike informed that the tire only needed a minimum of 3/32 of tire to pass a certification as an average across the tire in which the tire exceeded. He claimed that the tires on the axles of the car (front pair or rear pair) did not have to be matching tires to pass a safety and he "has a copy of the safety standards act for times like this". This is very inaccurate, the tires on the front or rear of the car have to match the other side. The tire depth is a minimum of 3/32, at the LOWEST POINT of the tire, not an average, or when the wear bars are making contact with the ground. My car has on one tire 1/32 of tread, and 2/32 on the other tires, and the 4th mismatched tire that was upfront looks like the dealer had already replaced it before I looked at the car, violating the safety standards act of matching tires. Mike called me about an hour later after I refused to take the car, and told me that if I did not come pick up the car that I forfeited my $1000 deposit, after an argument with Mike, he repeated "the car had in fact passed a legit certification, their technician risked his license to perform this certification and the car was 100% safe. Later on in this phone call he admitted "from a customer service standpoint, we can replace only one of the tires, if you do not accept this offer, there is nothing else we can do". Thus I did in fact have to pick up my vehicle. Despite an email to the General Manager, and Kumaran to no response I opened up an OMVIC case regarding my vehicle purchase from Oakville Honda. I am hoping they will rectify the situation gracefully, as I am mainly concerned about replacing the tires on the vehicle with comparable new ones. If you can avoid, do so. Oakville Honda is NOT a pleasant place to deal with, and they believed the had pulled the wool over the eyes of an 18 year old that actually knew what he was talking about.
