I loved this Zoo. The animals are amazing, well-cared, and the environment is clean, big & the animals seemed pretty happy. As an animal lover, I have a reluctance about Zoos in general, but I gave it a chance in Amsterdam. I recommend it especially for families with kids.

This is the place to come to Amsterdam for! A bunch of impressions! Hundreds of photos! Spent five hours to get a quick look at everything. At the entrance, be sure to buy a card for 2 euros ~ it will come in handy, and you will donate for the maintenance of this. There are an incredible number of animals. And butterflies, and cockroaches, and reptiles, and fish ... Everything is very beautifully done. There are cafes, ice cream. Swing for children. Generally, I advise! You will not regret
It is really super fun and well arranged! The park is of course super old, but it continues to renew itself and make it into a modern zoo! The animals have enough space what they need just the fact that everything there is so expensive. You already pay for a cup of coffee 2.75 really too expensive, I think. But on the other hand, they can expand the park and make room for the beautiful animals that are here! Highly recommended and from here you can go to many different types of museums or other sights!
Strong: jaguar enclosure (new), free flight areas with birds and mammals (old bird house and monkey house) and natural aquarium. Predator gallery is another major improvement area that is being worked on. Good info without childish hassle.
Really amazing zoo, in the rainforest room you walk amongst the monkeys and sloth. The animals look well cared for and the exhibits are very interactive. The lions we re especially wonderful to see. Worth the price of entry.
The oldest animal park in the Netherlands in the middle of the Capital. Good parking at a reduced rate. Animals and cages look good and cared for. Recommended.
Very nice zoo, some of the enclosures seemed a little small but overall seemed clean and well maintained. We managed to see lots of the animals and they all seemed healthy and happy
WOW! This place blew me away. The proximity to such a variety of creatures, huge playground, and beautiful landscape. This place was such a great place to bring the kids.
We were visiting with a toddler in a stroller, which was not a problem. The landscape is interesting, a lot of water and lovely animals. The stuff is friendly.
Hadn't been there for a long time but what a great zoo !!! Much more space for the animals, so much to see and wonderfully something so beautiful and spacious in the center of Amsterdam.
Zoo in the middle of the city. Definitely cool. Fun place to spend an afternoob with the little ones or as a team outing. Little foodcourt has pretty good food/sandwiches. Nice shows/demos. Well kept.
Relatively small zoo, enclosures sometimes quite small, especially that of the crocodile. There is not too much diversity. The aquarium is also quite disappointing. And for all this is required 20 euros admission. In Berlin you pay almost as much and see many more animals, a huge aquarium. Or in Munich, where one pays much less and encounters a much larger variety of animals ....
Fantastic fun zoo in the center of Amsterdam. In the middle of the park there is also a playground for children with a very short tension or hunger. PS: make friends with an Artis de Partis souvenir. For a parking space you have to be on time in high season. Buy the parking ticket at the ticket office, otherwise you will pay the standard EUR 4 per hour.
Certain enclosures in the zoo are a disaster! Snowy owls in narrow, low cages, aquariums for rays without shallow water, a great macaw was even kept without conspecifics! Some animals seem to be under constant stress. And the water in the park stinks like manure because it is not filtered enough. There are also newer enclosures in the zoo, such as those for giraffes and elephants. They are well done! But the old part of the zoo is an eyesore and should have been redesigned long ago.
Personally I wouldn't support a Zoo that slaughters a baby giraffe because they didn't have the resources to feed it. Once they killed it, they feed it to the lions. If you don't believe me, look it up. Disgusting.
Small, plain and ugly enclosures not suitable for most animals! (especially the lions enclosure as I was in shock). Animals looked bored, restless and probably are suffering mental health issues. They should remove so many of the pedestrian walkways and expand on making the part bigger for the ANIMALS and not us humans. Many of the animals don't even have much grass, trees, mud etc. to play, eat or relax in...this place was an eye opening experience to some of the problems zoos have. Note: the restaurant and staff are fine but this place needs to be renovated!
It is ridiculous that you are instructed to eat organic food in the dining options. Must be your own choice at all times. By the way, the non-organic ice creams that sell well are in the freezer.
The zoo is amazing. It has a great variety of animals and most enclosures seem spacious and comfortable. The animals are easy to see, unless they're at the time of the day when they're resting in their burrows, for an example. There are card guides for the enclosed buildings (with birds, butterflies, reptiles, etc.), but the zoo map you have to get at the gift shop in exchange for a donation for the new monkey exhibit (which is the top need at the moment). There's many fun stuff for the kids and make sure to visit micropia, as well. The tickets are sold separately, however.
Best zoo in in Netherlands (imo). Price is a bit steep. However, when you get a year subscription it turns out to be rather cheap. Also great for just reading a book and enjoying spring/summer on the less crowded days.
Really nice zoo located right in town. Lots of animals to see and places to sit and relax. Definitely a worthwhile visit for both kids and adult. Buy your ticket online and save yourself waiting time on the queue and a couple of euros per ticket.
I put a star because I cannot put less. This zoo is a disaster, the animals literally look sad, their enclosures are not suited to where they live, the place almost looks run down and the staff are very unwelcoming. In addition, a large part of the zoo is under renovation and the exorbitant price of 24 remains the same. If I had not had the IAmsterdam card, I clearly would not have.
Beautiful zoo which shows you how the zoos have progressed. You can see the ugly small cages and the big nice enclosure. They are working hard to replace all the old cages.
I dont really like the idea of zoos but most animals had decent sized enclosures although some did not e.g lions and lioness. Great array of animals though just wish I had more time to look around. A must see if in Amsterdam and good value for money.better than most local attractions.
The place is consistently developing their habitats and they have very unique exhibits. Easily the best zoo in Nederland, I highly recommend the 2pm free tour. The staff are very passionate about the animals and clearly care for them a lot, and it shows in the mood of the mood of the animals.
I recently went to Artis with my class. Very beautiful, interesting zoo with many nice and beautiful animals. Especially the Planetarium and Micropia were one of my favorite things at the zoo. If you go to the zoo on almost the hottest day of the year, it's nice to be able to sit comfortably in a chair and be enchanted by everything that can be found inside and outside our galaxy. When you are in Artis I would certainly visit Micropia. It is an interesting building that is about microbes (small bacteria). Very nice to be able to see living bacteria up close. There is also nice technology to be able to see this (eg: smell, get yourself scanned to see how many microbes are in your body and videos about microbes) The only thing that was a bit of a downside was that the cages are too small and not adapted at all to how the animal lives in the wild. Let me take the monkeys as an example: as everyone knows monkeys like to climb trees and swing around looking for food and play with each other. The monkeys in Artis live on a large rock surrounded by water with a few trees with ropes. When I went to visit the monkeys, I didn't think they looked so happy and they weren't playing happily with each other. And yes, I understand that Artis is already an old zoo and that it is right in the middle of the city (so it is difficult to expand), but a little more can be looked at at the loft and how the animal lives in the wild . I hope the people from Artis read this review so that they can do something about it. So like the review a.u.b and I hope that when I come next time there will already have been some improvement (of the loft).
Fantastic atmosphere, lovely animals, some of them running around visitors, very nice! Also, they have red pandas - probably, the most adorable animal I've seen so far ^^
A beautiful zoo in the heart of Amsterdam. That feeling alone is magical. Within the gates of Artis you can quietly enjoy all the beauty that the animal kingdom shows us. Outside the fences you find yourself in civilization again with all the hustle and bustle that comes with it. The difference of 2 worlds.
