Beautiful world class gallery. I've been here loads of times. Most recently they've been undergoing restorations so most of the rooms are shut but it's free, (like all national museums in Ireland) and the cafeteria is a great place to grab lunch.

Loved the Canalletto exhibition and the information guide was interesting and informative. 2 quibbles: the price of a cup of tea plus gluten free snack was around 5 euro and the information guide could have been aligned more with the exhibits. Otherwise a very interesting few hours.

This is an AMAZING free attraction. They run on donations, so if you can afford it you should definitely do so. There were numerous rooms and different displays throughout the gallery. There were paintings from many world famous painters as well- Picasso, Renoir, Monet, and a slew of Dutch Masters. I enjoyed the Irish portrait gallery for what I learned about culture and history. I'm very glad I went here. It's the perfect rainy day activity for a traveler on a budget who likes art and history. Bigger and better than I expected.

Even if you don t enjoy art, I m sure you ll enjoy the architecture of this remarkable gallery!
Nevertheless, the collection is astonishing in its own right and the venue simply compliments the outstanding masterpieces! Great exhibition of Irish artists as the major focus with a superb selection of international artists to balance the collection

Picasso and Monet are on the walls. Lots of irish painters too that l had never heard of. The gallery itself would not look out of place in other cultural hubs like London. Cafe and shop do the job as well.

5 stars for the modernist building which is great and includes some grand spaces as well as discreet ones and I particularly liked the 'suspended' walls under the staircases. Not so many stars for the collection since only about half the gallery seemed to be open in the first week of September. What is here though is very good and spans the centuries and major movements.

The classical stuff was a little hidden away behind double doors (security?) and I ended up having to ask for directions although admittedly there is a sign right next to the door!
There was one featured exhibition by a Spanish artist which was ticket only so missed out on that one. Probably only took an hour or so to get round since I am not a huge fan of vast oil paintings of biblical stories so raced that a bit although I did enjoy some of the more modern Russian ikons etc.
Cafe also looked good quality but I had a distillery tour to get to so you'll understand why I couldn't stay.

Difficult to give a negative feedback on such a great collection of fine arts which is free. Unfortunately, the permanent collection remains relatively small and doesn't gather much iconic pieces of these known international painters.

Very nice place and very family friendly. One bad thing is that there are construction works on the old building and it is not currently accessible. I had lunch yesterday and they had a couple of painters painting a young couple in the restaurant during lunch, it was very entertaining. Regarding the works of art, I'm not sure, because I don't know about that, but they seem to be of a very good quality.

An excellent gallery. Loved the Temporary Exhibition. Great that it's free and the staff are extremely helpful. My only disappointment was that the temporary closure of part of the gallery. But that is to be expected from time to time.

Housed in a beautiful new building near merion Square the National Gallery is well worth a visit. Most of the exhibits are free to see and give a good look back on some classic Irish and international art. There is also a gift shop and a cafe with decent coffee and food which is reasonably priced but there are nicer cafes near by which is better value for money. A nice place to spend an hour

There are few very famous works, but there are works of very famous artists.
The works of Irish painters, which can probably be seen only here, are lined up narrowly.
Right now (October 2017) there was an exhibition by German print artist Kete Kollwitz.

Oh, I loved this gallery so much. I wish I had more time to explore the various exhibits, but the short time I did have was amazing. The Zurich Young Portrait Prize exhibition was so wholesome, I cried looking at the pieces done by those beautiful young artists. I think I was mostly surprised that there was no admission fee. There are very few free galleries and museums around my home, so this experience was lovely!

Super museum free for everyone except special temporary exhibition. Only concern the prospectus in French contains an error in the schedules: it is not on Friday that the museum closes at 8:30 pm but on Thursday it seems to me. I could not see the 3rd floor for this reason. But very beautiful museum both for the places and the works. It's worth the detour
