Small, but a fun way to spend an hour. Great for kids.
The best aviary I've been too. A ton of work goes in to this place and it shows.
Admission is too pricey for what it is...small aviary..but lots of birds etc...judt a tad overpriced.
Aviary was awesome. Knowledgeable people. Sloth gave us show climbing across the path
Great time
There are several birds but I would say it is a little confusing to walk through. I would not say this is a day full of activities. In general it was fun, not sure I would go back again though. Definitely should go once.
We thoroughly enjoyed the variety of birds here. It's not a large space, so we were not exhausted after spending the day. You can't get any closer to the birds than here. The staff did terrific presentations, you can watch feedings, and even participate. Well worth attending!
Went here on a lark (pun very much intended) and was very surprised and impressed. Lots of birds from all over the planet and they seem to be living and being treated well. Would go again!
Beautiful. Ive never seen puffins. They have beautiful species and parakeet feeding. Great for the whole family
If you're going to see the sloth it stays in a box in the Tropics. He was hard to find but we had a great volunteer point him out to us. This was a change from the habitat I first saw him in 4 years ago.
The bird habitats are all amazing and did not disappoint. Make sure to bring a hat because the birds have free reign in some of the rooms.
We love it here. We bought the membership this year. Worth every 3.
Great place to visit if you live in Pittsburgh or to bring visiting friends and family. You'll get to see an impressive variety of birds up close and a few other animals, like bats and a sloth or two.
FliteZone was the best five dollars I've ever spent!
My son (and his now wife) got married here last weekend and it was amazing. The Aviary did such a great job of having the venue look amazing. The staff were all awesome and the grounds and fall decor made for BEAUTIFUL views....pictures look great.
Great place with great variety of birds. Children will have much fun.
Fun dome of the birds were load it was great and all the activities
It is a wonderful, clean place! It is a little bit expensive but it's worth it!
Great place to go, just wish the rainforest portion was open.
A great place to take the family. They have an amazing diversity of birds. Definitely be around for one of the feeding times.
The Aviary offers an impressive array of birds and exhibits considering its size. Although there are a few smaller enclosures, most of the birds roam free in large, climate-specific atriums that allow visitors to get up close and personal with the inhabitants. Lots of kid-friendly activities make it a great place to take the family.
Good place, but a bit small for the pricing. A good bit of fun for sure. I was not pleased at all the the Sloth Encounter prices. Geesh make it affordable for everyone not just people with cash. This is a non-profit right?
Always a great day with several bonus shows included with admission.4 additional experiences at $3 a piece or 2 for$5.
A fascinating visit and very educational. I'd gladly go back.
The aviary is a great experience for both kids and parents. The ability to be in such close proximity to the animals is amazing. My son lived the grasslands area with all of the small birds and of course was a big fan of the penguins. I do wish the prices of admission for children were lower. The staff was extremely friendly though.
Very educational and enjoyable. Unique opportunity to see rare birds. Adored their sloth too.
Probably my favorite place to visit regularly, the first time we went we bought a membership and we can't stop going! Truly a wonderful place to visit!
A bird lover's gem. This nonprofit has eagles, penguins 3 different aviary rooms where the birds fly freely around you. There is also a volunteer staff member available to answer questions about the birds, their habitat and the organization.
Love the Aviary, the Flamingos are beautiful to watch.
I was thinking... birds, meh. Then I went and wow, I loved it. Someone, who I wont mention, "got it" at teh aviary. If you go, you will understand and they may even give you a button so wear it proudly if it happens. The condors are .... wow. Couldnt get enough of the bats, there are some favorites for sure here. Check it out, you will be surprised.
Yep, the National Aviary is in Pittsburgh and it's great.
Very cool. Wish the Sloth experience wasn't $150! Otherwise highly recommend.
I took my two grandsons age 9 and 6. This was their first time going to the Aviary. They were impressed. Howver, it cost me about $60.00, and at this price, I expected a lot more exhibits for my money. There was rentavation going on in the rainforest exhibit and it was closed.
Amazing displays and exhibits. You get up close to all of the birds, it's a unique experience.
Variety of birds inside and outside, they also have bats, sloths, and armadillos. They have a food court with pretzels and that kind of stuff. There is also a gift shop.
Small but really quite lovely and I will happily remember the penguin stood on watch whose armband I miss-read as 'Security' for some time.
Nice. I just cannot do caged animals... of ANY kind.
I really enjoyed the variety of habitats represented at the aviary. Plenty of beautiful birds to view in each one. The eagles (bald and sea) and condors were impressive.
Absolutely beautiful with alot of animals to pet. My cousins wedding here was beyond perfect!
Great place, very clean with healthy birds. Very humid and warm. Great escape from the cold.
This place was amazing. Some really cool birds, and even a sloth.
What a wonderful place the perfect place to be in a tropical rainforest feels like it's summer there all year round and most importantly the Penguins my favorite is Elvis thank-you Pittsburgh National Aviary what a great staff friendly and courteous extremely lovely good time
My child loved it lots to see if you take your time to go through it you have to sit in each room for a while to he able to see all the hidden birds
Very kid friendly. Excellent interactive opportunities(feed lorikeets, penguins, watch sloth and fruit bat feedings) .great dinosaur exhibits. Amazing habitats with loose birds. Book for weddings!
Our group had a private dinner at the aviary, the food was delicious. The experience was unforgettable and would recommend anyone to go. Since it was after hours, we were only able to view the exhibits inside (we couldn't see the flamingos and outside birds). Someone who worked there brought out a penguin and gave us quite the education on the South African Penguins. I was very impressed. I loved the experience and would go back in a heartbeat!
Gorgeous aviary with emphasis on education. At $18 per adult and no student discount, a little pricey for me personally, especially since their largest exhibit was closed!
As a wildlife biologist, I'm not a huge fan of their animal interactions, which allow you to pay to interact with some of the animals. Im sure this is fine with some species and is a good money raiser, but it makes me suspicious that they're not prioritizing animal wellbeing and health, particularly with reference to the sloth visit. Most animals do not want to interact with people unless on their terms. Take that with a grain of salt since I'm sure they have many devoted and caring staff members, but please consider closely and ask questions before purchasing.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff with some very cool Faux habitats for the birds (and bats!) made for a great experience with my 4 year old son. Also don't miss out on the lorikeet feeding!
Worth a visit. Great for a quick trip with kids. It is not huge so it is easy to go through if you only have an hour. The kids Mac and Cheese at the concession is pretty good.
I defenitely love this place! You can spend 2-3 hours here exploring the nature of birds. A good place to spend time with friends and family. A lot of things to do for kids.
I really enjoyed my visit here. Learned quite a bit.
Fantastic place to take small children or any bird lover.
Great place parking is easy. Staff is great. I'll definitely be back.
Absolutely fantastic. A great place for low cost to experience animals. I would recommend this place for kids and adults.
This is such an amazing place, and it's clear that the staff really cares about the well bring of the animals!
The Aviary is a great place to go and be surrounded by nature. The feedings that they offer are a great way for the kids to get involved. The reason for a 4 star review is price. Even after paying to enter you have to purchase most shows on top of the membership.
Staff was excellent, a bus load of fourth graders arrived right after we did, the staff efficiently moved them thru and you would have never known they were there. We did a cup experience with Mike, he was excellent, super knowledgeable and a nice guy to spend the afternoon with
I used to go to the Aviary a lot as a child living in the area, hadn't been in many years. The place kept a smile on my face the entire time. I especially liked feeding the lorikeets, and watching the Flying Foxes at feeding time.
The tropical feel is appealing in the winter in pgh...
If you like birds, you will like this place. Birds of all kinds! Several side attractions to see and opportunities to interact with the birds. Guides are very knowledgeable and ready to answer just about any question about birds you may have. The flamingo and rain forrest we're favorites of mine. Kids really like the African Penguin area with the capability to see penguins swim underwater. We will return.
Great place to take the kids for an awesome learning experience
Great penguin exhibit and great diversify of species overall. Does make you feel quite depressed for the condors and larger birds who aren t able to fly at all due to the size of their enclosures...
What a neat and up-close experience to observe birds in natural habits and learn a lot of information from various presentations performed by the staff. They have a broad range of bird species to learn about and observe, a gift shop for souvenirs, a theater for presentations with live animals, a flight assimilation, a cafe for food and drink, etc. We spent about four hours at the National Aviary and we really enjoyed our time there. I highly recommend this family-friendly place to you!
As the only stand alone aviary in the nation it is a must see. My wife made a great friend with a male flamingo. Grand kids enjoyed the sloth and penguins. I love the bald eagle.
Really enjoyed the Aviary. My daughter really enjoyed the penguins, they were very playful and they were very close. It took us about 2 hours to see the whole thing at a leisurely pace.
Great day out with the family. The open aviary is very cool...kids loved it...I ,myself, not so much because I'm afraid of birds!
The volunteers and employees are so helpful and friendly. You can really get up close to many of the birds and they have many options for more interactive experiences. Definitely worth the visit!
Overall great experience, would highly recommend attending one, or all of the feedings they offer though the day.
Great indoor activity for all ages on a cold winter day.
Had a FANTASTIC flamingo encounter. 100% reccomend!
