A great place. Birds are very well cared for & healthy. Staff are terrific, courteous, extremely informed, happy to answer questions & help. Some species of birds are not common in zoos. Ability to view closely ,& naturally, & interact w/ birds are designed.

Very nice medium-sized museum and zoo. Despite being in the middle of the city, on the day that I visited it was very quiet, with only a few other people wandering around. That turned out to be really nice, because I could take my time to see all the different birds and read about the exhibits without feeling rushed or crowded in. I especially liked the indoor atrium with the free-roaming tropical birds. The little herons there were pretty funny, and let me get close to them to take their pictures. Being an art student, I wish I had brought my sketchbook with me, as all of the birds seemed quite comfortable posing for the visitors.

I'd recommend this zoo to students, families with older children, or anyone interested in learning more about birds, particularly species native to North America. While there were some kid-friendly areas by the food court and outside, I imagine young children under the age of 10 might get bored after the first few exhibits. Though from what I understand, the Aviary does have scheduled kids' events regularly, just not on the day that I was there.

I love going to the National Aviary. It is very near the Pittsburgh Children's Museum and you can get a deal for going to both. The avery has different areas for birds including Eagles, Penguins, Savannah birds, and others. My favorite is the tropical area. It's full of beautiful birds. There are feedings throughout the day.

We had some time to burn before we headed to the airport. We visited and had fun. My wife enjoyed the penguins, bats, and bald eagle. We love nature and enjoy being so close to the great birds.

Some of could do a better job of controlling their emotions. .. But afterwards they handled the situation professionally and respectfully. .. I only wish they had a space for groups to eat instead of having us eat outside. .. Other then that, our visit was perfect. ..

The variety of birds was impressive and the educational programs displayed them well. The rainforest and wetlands sections have a lot going on.
The birds are free to fly right past you, and some walk up to your feet. It's wonderful to see them so close.

I'm ashamed that I didn't know of this gem for so long. The admission is admittedly a bit steep, but it's a great way to get real close to some great species. The sloth ticked off a Victoria's Crowned Pigeon while we were there, which was hilarious to watch!

This place is amazing. They have a butterfly garden. They have many species of birds. Great zookeepers. You can feed birds during certain times just pay for food. Also, most birds are free roaming. This is a great place to learn about birds. Great place for kids and adults.

The National Aviary is a nice place to take your kids or anyone for that matter if they are a bird lover or just want something to do. It's like the zoo sort off but much smaller because they only house different species of birds. There is an eatery inside with snacks, pizza, drinks etc. There is also a gift shop inside.

We love the aviary! It has always been a favorite activity when visiting Pittsburgh. Their staff are easy to talk to and very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. This recent exhibit about dinosaurs was loved by my son. His favorite thing to do is run through the penguin tunnels, though. Always makes some friends there. We love how the birds are all around you and not all locked in cages. Spend the extra few dollars to do a special exhibit. This year we fed the lorikeets and did the live experience. Both were great. I'd plan to spend 2-3 hours there. Its not a huge space, but they pack a lot in there! If you visit the wonderful city of Pittsburgh, put this on your list of places to see!

If you re able to go, you should definitely check it out at least once. Being in person with these birds in their recreated habitats is an experience not easily forgettable. The price is reasonable and you have the opportunity to donate.

My favorite room is the drylands room. There s nothing like having tiny colorful birds you wouldn t otherwise see in this area fly right by your head.

I do recommend paying the extra money up front for whatever experience they re offering for the day. The two times I ve been there, I got to catch a falcon during their show, and hold a colorful tropical bird that ate a blueberry out of the palm of my hand. Unforgettable and incomparable memories can certainly be made here!

Great place to visit during our Pittsburgh trip. I got "buzzed" by several birds in the grassland exhibit. They were all so cute. Will definitely put this on my list to do again the next time we are in the Pittsburgh area. The bird feeding was a hit also.

Every visit to be the Aviary has been nothing but wonderful! They have kind & professional staff, a large variety of birds and other animals, and many interactive encounters. I plan on becoming a member!

At my most recent visit, I attended the brunch with the owls and it fantastic. The food was delicious, and the decor looked like we were at a wedding. The zookeepers came around to each table and let us view a different bird up close.

My wife's family is from Pittsburgh. And she took me there to see the wonderful Birds. Got to interact with an armadillo and feed the lorikeets. The staff was very informative, helpful, and professional. Will be going back there the next time we visit Pittsburgh.

Outstanding. Great fun for kids or adults interested in nature.

Love how they maintain appropriate vegetation, humidity, and quality food for the unique species. Friendly and knowledge staff who are obviously passionate about providing the best life for these animals and sharing that passion with the public.

Great place to visit with kids and informative for adults as well. Went to see sloths and thought we would be doing lots of just sitting around and waiting. Three hours passed quickly. Highly recommend!

Such an amazing place! I absolutely recommend taking the whole family! They have it set up so wonderfully. You get right up to all the birds. And most of them are just flying around everywhere and hanging out. It was a great experience! I also recommend paying the $3 extra to feed to Lorikeets and the $5 for the Aracari. It was a blast and my son loved it! It is totally worth the $15 a person to get in! Seeing all the different species that I've never seen before, especially that close, was incredible!

I love the Aviary! Great staff and an amazing place to immerse yourself for a full day. They set it up well with their scheduled feedings, move from one spot to another as you watch and learn. Schedule an encounter with a penguin or another animal too! I take the 7 your drive each way just to visit

This place was great, though a bit pricey. My kids, 2 years old, loved it. It's inside so the comfort was great. The kids could get right up to the birds. It's not so big that you can't see the whole thing. We spent about 3 hours there (including lunch) and that was perfect.

Loved it. Conservation focused with lots of programs to help species in need as well as suggestions for how visitors can make changes to help imperiled species. Great staff and volunteers with lots of knowledge and enthusiasm. Very fun feeding time activities, some of which are free. The paid Amazon show was great. Kids would love it.

Lots of interesting birds and plenty of information about care, feeding, and protection. Admission is a little high but at least it's going to a good cause. If you want to see eagles, penguins, and tropical birds up close I highly recommend you visit.

Fantastic for kids, very reasonably priced and admission cost is well worth it. Great to explore, very helpful and informative staff, very immersive. Kids (and adults) can participate in feedings, talk to naturalists, and experience up close birds they may never see anywhere else. Only issue, and it is very small, but there is very limited parking.

Great family experience. Beautiful live space walk thrus.

The interior of the facility is smaller than expected. Not a full day activity as can see all in fairly short time. Bit on the pricy side for admission. Will def return.

This is a great place to see some rare wildlife and birds you wouldn't otherwise see in a zoo or out in the wild in North America. They have engaging exhibits, good educational materials, and a variety of different display areas, most of them fully indoors and climate controlled.

You can see everything in the course of a leisurely afternoon, and most of the exhibits are indoors.

Very cozy place. You can spend 1-2 hours and enjoy to be a part of amazing bird world. They have different exebitions with live birds - tropical world, rainforest, tiny birds and so on. Resample prices - $17 per adults and very well maintained place. They practicing social distance and have a lot of sanitizer stations.
I would definitely recommend this place to visit specially with kids.

had limited time, so just zipped around the displays. Penguins were active, tropical birds, eagles, condors all around. Habitat recreation was great, Stay for the shows if you have all day and get your money's worth.

Very nice aviary! Exhibits are extremely open. Easy walk through lay out. Has cafe. Parking fee. A bit small, but reasonably priced considering birds are not cheap to care for. Would recommend.
