It was fun feeding the lorikeets but if you go during the week you get in faster. They had a ton of birds, these giant bats, apparantly a sloth but you must be there early to see him. They have all kinds of ways to interact, they even have a vr machine that runs with htc vive where you lay flat and fly like a bird. Then, sometimes they have a seperate place open for butterflies and moths certain times of the year. Usually parking is fine too and its right by a big park with some playgrounds and running room. Its by the Childrens Museum too so you can hang out there all day and do all kinds of stuff

We had an amazing time here. Wish they had more funding to make this a lot bigger but each room was like a different part of the world. We went around twice just to experience it again in one day

This was my 2nd visit here. I was somewhat disappointed with having a section closed for remodeling and would have postponed the visit had the website been clear with that information. The aviary is a great place to visit, however, and I will come back again and again. I love birds and they have some of the best here!

The National Aviary wasn't for me. Admittedly, we went in December, so all of the outdoor activities were limited. But what we saw indoors was frankly gross. It had a predictable smell. And the bird displays were somewhat underwhelming.

Incredible people and animals. Spent almost the entire day just marveling at the wonderful birds, and even getting a chance to feed them! Thank you to all the volunteers here who make it so special

Super fun and informative place to teach parents and kids alike about birds. We had a blast there our first time and have gone back 3 times since! Great way to spend an afternoon with your family.

This place is incredible. We love coming here. Our little one had a blast looking at all the animals and learning about where they are from. The cafe is very reasonably priced. I was shocked to see how reasonable the food was. And it's actually good! We we'll definitely be coming back.

Went in thinking it was just gonna be a place with birds, boy was I wrong! This place is amazing , I loved following the workers who were feeding the bird to see all the action. The fact that you can just sit in a room and have the birds flying past your head was well worth it. Nice and clean and the animals all seemed to be happy and healthy.

The National Aviary has some very interesting species of birds and is a great educational experience for children and adults. The area is somewhat limited, so I would recommend taking your time at each exhibit, enjoying and watching the different birds, and reading the information provided at each place. Parking at the aviary can be an issue on weekends or other busy days. There is a small parking lot in the back and street parking, which can both be very limited or completely unavailable. Overall, for the admission price it is a pleasant and educational place to visit that I would recommend to everyone. Just be sure to take your time, ask questions, and read the information at each exhibit.

An amazing and interactive zoo and place to go to see birds and exotic wildlife and learn more about them and nature..a truly fascinating place..highly recommended spending the day here.

All of the employees are friendly and knowledgeable! The woman at the front desk played with our toddler when we got there, and when we left, she remembered him and said goodbye to him. It seems so small, but personal touches like that make you feel comfortable and welcomed.

My husband surprised me with a meet-and-greet with a penguin and it is SO worth the money! You get to touch a penguin and an employee does a Q&A with you while the penguin wanders around interacting with you.

The facility itself was very clean and beautiful. The birds they have are remarkable and you can tell the employees really care for the animals and take pride in their jobs.

Our toddler loves birds, so going into each section where the birds fly freely overhead and can land anywhere really put him over the moon with excitement. We loved that the birds are not confined to small cages and they have real habitats to enjoy.

Pros:

Pros:
Good for kids to look at different birds.
Good eatery place with snacks and drinks and much more.
Penguins show is good.
Decent parking lot.

Cons:
High price.
Place smells a lot with bird dung

A national treasure of course, one of many hundreds of reasons Pittsburgh has so much to offer its locals. It, along with the aquarium, allows the zoo able to focus on quality over quantity. Pony up and pay those admission fees, it's so worth it

Fun place to go to and watch birds hatch. Personally I believe a show that can be broadcast on any device should be installed so everyone can watch as baby birds are hatching. That way, if the birds hatch at night, everyone would be able to see! I ask that you please consider this suggestion from one of your staff members. They are very dedicated, hard working, and caring individuals. Thank you for the memories!

Always a really nice place to go. Today we went to the Father's Day brunch catered by Atria's and the food was delicious. It was nice to see the birds they brought out and listen to the caretakers who were incredibly knowledgeable about the birds. Most exhibits are open with the birds which is a great opportunity for photography and up close encounters! Very kid friendly as well with lots of activities for the little ones.

Supper friendly and knowledgeable. Easy to navigate an see everything. Our ticket seller was especially nice writing down event times on the maps where they were being held as an easy reference. Several rooms are open where the birds are flying around you. Both the birds in rooms and in enclosures were pretty engaging and never had to crane your neck to see anything.

The sloth in the rainforest room was amazing! And for just a couple extra bucks you could feed toucans or pelicans and they had a few other experiences. Didn't get to try but also had a flight simulator VR where you actually got to lay flat and flap your wanna like a bird - would like to try next time I go. I give very few 5 starts, only for places that go above and beyond, and they definitely deserve it.

Where else can you take your kids to get swooped on and pooped on by birds? Just kidding (kind of), but really this place is a gem in Pittsburgh for all ages. Being in the same open space as the birds adds an extra element of excitement. Find them flitting about the branches above you or walking on the path with you. Here you can see giant condors, toucans, flamingos, penguins, sloths, tiny songbirds, parrots, macaws, flying foxes, and so much more.

Something for everyone, whether children or seniors, it's a fun place to relax and not get bored. Lots to see, hear, and learn. A fun place. They have parties and even weddings through the events planner. Just an unexpected surprise for me, after I hadn't been there in a long time.

We had a great time with our toddler grandson! We explored seven, climate-specific "rooms" that featured exotic birds both up close and from a comfortable distance. We watched and participated in a handful of feedings that thrilled him. Took in a live "inflight" exhibition that included a dozen or so birds, from tiny burrowing owls, to falcons, eagles, and macaws. He really enjoyed leading us through the Aviary's winding paths and boardwalks. We kept coming back to the nursery to watch through the window as an egg in an incubator showed signs of life and the furry baby eagle owls stumbled blindly in their nest. I give this place 5 stars in spite of my warning not to eat at the cafe. There are plenty of other eateries nearby.

Great museum! Most of the exhibits are just open rooms and often these beautiful creatures get up close to you for pictures. There are frequent feedings and unlike most zoos there was hardly a moment I felt there wasn't much going on in a display. They do piece meal a majority of their activities. But it all goes back into taking care of these great creatures. This is a place you'll want to go back several times because you will miss some things despite it's size. I reccomend the playful penguins. Also their one whole sloth. It's lazy but it's trying. <3

My favorite place in Pittsburgh. I could sit in the grasslands room all day just listening and watching the little birds fly around. It is definitely worth a visit, or five, or more. Give yourself plenty of time, too, and if you can, catch a bird show. They really do a great job.

A beautiful place, if a bit small. Good variety of birds, with several exhibits where the birds are not in cages, allowing visitors some really nice close-up encounters with some. Animals seemed very happy and healthy. Worth a visit!

It doesnt matter if your young or old, this place will inspire you in some way. I highly recommend the raptor show if its available. Currently they have the most amazing baby owls that are just these big poof balls.
