Worth a visit, but maybe just the one time.

Expensive for what it is. The Pittsburgh Zoo is a better bang for your buck. Parking here in the lot is crowded and street parking is, well, Pittsburgh street parking.

That being said, my 2-yo daughter thoroughly enjoyed the visit and there's a lot of interesting information and artwork to take in.

We drove 5 hours for this. I did see the recent comment about being a bit small for the pricing, but before we even got there, we bought an annual membership. It was only about $20 more than the cost of our family to go, and now we can go back any time this year, plus enjoy a whole host of different Zoos and Aquariums across the country for free or reduced prices, including 2 local ones! Well worth the value. We actually found out about this from a friend who posted pictures doing Birdly - a virtual reality flight simulator - you fly like a bird through the Jurassic Era. VERY COOL - Only $5 extra!

There are lots of open aviary rooms, you can feed lorikeets and toucans. There is a sloth. The penguins have a fun habitat set up too with a cave to crawl in and view them from different angles.

Well worth it.

Love coming here! I've been about four times and I never get tired of all the beautiful and fantastic birds flying (or waddling) around. A lot of exhibits are open air, so you have birds flying all around you. Definitely feed some lorikeets and the birds of prey show is pretty amazing. Everyone I've brought here has loved it as well.

The birds were wonderful, but you have to be very careful about standing under them. I wish it was bigger, but even so, they had a vast array of species. You are able to get very close to the birds and they seem to be used to the flow of humans so they aren't afraid to get close to you.

Went there with a couple of friends on a cold December morning. Most of the birds can be seen from an indoor setting, with places where they just walk/fly past you. A good collection of birds from around the globe. There are special bird feeding events and live bird show too spread throughout the day. Can be added to your itinerary along with Mattress Factory and Andy Warhol museum that are just walking distance apart.

For one I love birds. This collection is wonderful. Most are friendly and have such great personalities, I was amazed at how majestic and friendly many of them we're. You can tell they are well taken care of and thrive off the positive energy and attention. Great place to visit!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! We've visited here before when visiting PIttsburgh and this year my husband gave me a "Sloth Experience" as a gift, so we went a few weeks ago. It was a great experience and I was especially impressed with those responsible for Valentino and Vivian's care. It was clear these, and all the animals in the Aviary were treated with love and respect. We plan to go back for some of the other "encounters" they offer with other resident animals.

For anyone who loves birds and enjoys seeing and photographing multiple species - many of them rare and from other parts of the world - this is a great place to visit! It is well designed, with many areas to explore, so be sure to allow at least two hours for your visit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There's a cafe for a break, if you wish, and there's also a gift shop.

As someone who is crazy about birds and opportunities to photograph them, I heartily recommend visiting the National Aviary!! It's great for families - children can really enjoy getting up close to many of the species. Be sure to check out the pair of Blue Macaws and, of course, the flamingos! Definitely a must-see place!!

A great experience, I didn t even know it existed until we looked for things to do in Pittsburgh. A huge assortment of birds, some running and flying around with the guests. Although it s an additional cost, the owl experience was worth it. An owl perched on your arm!

Great place! There are so many cool birds in open settings. The staff is helpful, informative and plentiful. I especially enjoy the interactive feedings.

I'd recommend getting an all day pass. For 20$, you'll spend ~4 hours there and get to see the live theater show (where you might learn something) and do the lorikeet feeding (note: get there a bit early and it can get loud). If you only want to get regular admission, that is cool too but I think the live show and lorikeet feeding should be done at least once. Both are very immersive.

Def check out the penguin feeding, the sea eagles, and the crazy bro-mance between a big pheasant and a little white lapwing in the rainforest area - a staff member informed me of this. Also look for staff roaming the halls with owls and hawks too.

If you are looking to spend a few hours downtown in Pittsburgh, you can't go wrong with the Aviary!

P.S. You may get pooped on, but it is good luck ;)

Went to a wedding here and it was great! The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was very nice, we could also go around to the exhibits and they brought out some of the birds to look at and take pictures with, etc. Very fun!

What a wonderful place! There were so many different birds to see! Loved the different habitats. The staff were very informative and friendly. The armadillo was, strangely, my highlight. Seems like an awesome place to work. The gift shop and cafe were a plus! A must!

As a bird fanatic and enthusiast this was a dream come true! I absolutely love love love this place. Prices are pretty good for all the little activities and the more expensive encounters (I did the owl encounter which was a m a z i n g). You can tell the birds are very well taken care of. I love the approach towards the birds and how much of an important role they play. I also love the environmental awareness all throughout (both from shows and signs). If you're visiting make sure to hit this place!

It's a nice aviary with like 200 bird species. You get close up distance with birds as it's main exhibits are open. But without watching the show., You can finish in one hour. So for the price $17 and one major exhibit under renovation, it's a little expensive.

What a lovely surprise! They have a lot of educational programs and opportunities to interact with the birds. The grounds are lovely, and I loved the interactive grasslands, tropical, and wetlands areas.

The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is an incredible place to visit. I went into it thinking that it would just be a zoo but for birds, but I was oh so wrong! There are 4 or 5 fully open rooms that you walk through almost unrestricted in the birds habitat. It is an amazing experience when the birds you're looking at fly right over your head and perch on a tree 3 feet from you. Highly recommend going here.

The aviary is my favorite place to take out-of-towners. They are always blown away by the beautiful and friendly birds. There's a parrot who likes to show off that I highly recommend paying a visit to. It's a great place for kids but also really fun for adults.

Great place for strollers because everything except the penguin exhibit is indoors and all is level. The penguin exhibit is amazing! You get so close.
We sat in the cafe area for snack. It was clean and bright.
The value is okay. It's not that big, so you can walk through in less then 2 hours. So after the $12 ticket and $5 for parking, I was left wanting a little more. Although, I would still go back.

This place was great, they work with other places you have a membership with to allow discount tickets. The place was clean and there was alot of staff available to help. Some of the lines for the extra purchases were long however they were really cool to participate in! We will definitely go back.

Pretty good. Wish it was larger. The staff were very friendly, provided lots of information. One of the things I liked the best was that they had a able bodied gentleman (forgot his name) working in the finch room. He provided lots of information on the different birds and their habits.

National Aviary exceeded my expectations. From the feeding of the penguins to the wide variety of birds. The gift shop had an assortment of souvenirs which my daughter racked up on. We will DEFINITELY come back on our next visit.

A nice place to bring the kids or to just relax and enjoy looking at animals you might not ever otherwise see. All kinds of birds from finches to condors. They also currently have a baby sloth. If you are into bird photography bring your rig. Most of the birds are used to people and you can get close enough for some great photos. For a few extra dollars you can have closer experiences with some of the birds. There is a small restaurant on site.
