This place is just great. Come on people, who doesn't want to look at an owl from 5 inches away?! We have a family pass and will continue to purchase one each year, they are so affordable for what you get!! Thank you Aviary!

Amazing experience, our little kids (2 and 4) loved it. You really get up close with the birds. There are two large indoor aviaries and and outdoor one, with many other areas with animals too. We saw the penguin feeding, and we paid 3 bucks and we could feed birds that landed right on our arms. You can see everything in a day, but it offers so much to come back to. Oh, and they have a sloth. He was balled up in a tree.

Took my 3 years old here for the first time (for him and me), he was inspired by all about dinosaurs they have there. You can get so close to most birds. Nice for relaxing, not so many people in the morning. Smaller than I expected though, if you just keep walking and you will be done in about half an hour, just need to enjoy it!

This was the first genuine attraction I have visited since moving to Pennsylvania and visiting Pittsburgh. I can truly say I was impressed by the professionalism displayed consistently from the courteous and knowledgeable staff. The exhibits were all meticulously maintained and allowed viewing of the animals without interrupting their natural behavior. I would highly recommend this site as a must visit for any bird enthusiast or young learner interested in nature.

Love this aviary, the largest one in the country. Contains many bird species plus bats and sloths.
They also have a nice gift shop and a cafe. Note that no straws are given for your drinks as they are hazardous for the animals should they get ahold of them.
My only wish is that some of the large birds such as the eagles and condors had more room.

A fun place to go on a rainy day. The price of entry is pretty reasonable for the amount of time that you can spend there. The open exhibit is my favorite to visit. Getting up close to the birds and being in their environment is a cool experience.

An amazing number and diversity of birds in a relatively small area! Rainforest and wetland habitat areas were great to walk through and look for a host of world-wide species, or you could focus on one and watch their behaviors. Cafe was good for a small bite. A few nice outdoor exhibits, too. Favorite: the Inca Terns in the wetlands.

We took our daughter to the aviary and had a very nice day. It is expensive (almost $50 for two adults and one child) to get in and additional costs for the penguin and flamingo experiences. There is a big variety of birds to look at, two gift shops, a cafe, and restrooms. The place is clean and the enclosures are nicely done. This is a rare find and a very kid friendly place, just prepare to pay for it.

The aviary is a great place to take a family on a Saturday or Sunday. Although the admission fee might seem steep, it goes towards funding the facility. Be sure to check out the penguins.

Such a fun place to go with young kids. Great fresh cooked food in the cafe inside. Lots of mini activities and feedings throughout the day to check out in the exhibits. Also very cute gift shop items.

Small place but is adding an expansion. Close up viewing, birds flying over your head makes for a great experience. Lots of employees were wiping, sanitizing and cleaning. Loved rhe penguins. We will go back.

I ve lived in Pittsburgh all my life and this was my first visit to The Aviary. I loved it! I liked it better than the zoo. All the birds are up close. Definitely pay to see the Amazing Amazon. The birds are free flight. Excellent show! Loved it all but the eagles are beautiful and those penguins are so darn cute.

Amazing! Kind of a hidden treasure because it's not normally listed as one of the "must see" things in Pittsburgh. It should be at the top of the list, in my opinion. Young kids, teens, 20+ year olds, 50+ year olds, everyone enjoyed it. Easy to get to and to get around in, even for people with problems walking. Best parts were the Bald Eagles and the Penguins, but everything is fantastic.

We had such a fun visit. I recommend doing one of the add-on feeding activities, and being on the lookout for special education opportunities such as a handler bringing out a bird and just sharing more about it in the hallway. The penguins were probably the most popular exhibit. Don't miss the butterfly pavilion outside. The facility was clean and climate controlled and wheelchair accessible. The staff and volunteers were all helpful and friendly.

Loved this place and being able to walk around with birds flying or walking by. I liked the biggest parrots (one of them would talk to you :)), the penguins and the pelicans. I bet it's even more beautiful in the summer when the rose garden is in full bloom.
Worth the time.

Our family absolutely adores going to the National Aviary. It feels like you re in a totally different place the moment you step inside. The exhibits are educational, fascinating, and it s very clear the animals and environment are well card for. The staff goes above and beyond. I needed to nurse my three month old daughter and a staff member opened up a private room and was extremely helpful. We had our picture taken as a family at the Aviary around Christmas time and it was so special. It s a fantastic place for a day trip!

All kinds of interesting and beautiful birds here. The immersive habitats are especially fun to just be in and be around the birds. The sloth was adorable and climbed over our heads :) definitely an awesome place to visit!

I visited Pittsburg for seven days and the National Aviary was by far my favorite! They had an eagle exhibit, penguin exhibits, rainforest, etc. The most interesting thing was the bat feeding and the active parrots. They also have a great food court. The National Aviary has parking for $5 near the entrance, but you can also find street parking and parking lots around the center.

Much more than I had expected. Went with my fiance and we had a blast. Being able to get close to the birds made our day. Not to mention all of the events. We could have stayed for hours and would have if we didn't have a schedule.

Fabulous!

Who knew the NATIONAL Aviary was in Pittsburgh? Well it is, and the professionals here are great! I am not a fan of animals in captivity but the majority of their animals are rescues who would die if left in the wild, and the rest are given pretty spacious enclosures. Be sure to check out the fruit bat feedings when you visit!

Beautiful birds. Staff really cares about the animals. Great for kids of all ages. Well worth the trip. Plus a bird pooped on my wife's head and sent me into a raging laughter. Definitely recommended.

We went to National aviary during spring break. The parking is easy and it only cost $5. However, the admission is expensive and you also have to pay extra fees for some activities such as virtual reality flying. Overall it is great experience and my children loved visiting this place.

Fun, family-friendly atmosphere where you can watch penguins swim, finches fly around your head, and massive rooms where the birds are free to wander around you. Be sure to check ahead for feeding times and if any of the non-feathered animals are being brought out, as they have had a couple baby sloths in the past.

We went on World Penguin day which they said there would be a bunch activities, prizes, and discounts. We met a penguin and did storytime but no prizes or discounts on anything. My 2 year old still had fun though!

Great place for children as well as adults. The performance in the shows are pretty good and all enjoyable for weekend. The only this is a little small museum since in one and half hour you can see everything.

Wonderful. Seeing the birds up close to being able to feed some of them is an enchantment - we think we are elected if one dares to land on our arm !! Shadow on the board: large birds that have nothing to do in these cages, like eagles.
