We go as often as our lives allow. I adore this place!!!
We go as often as our lives allow. I adore this place!!!
Incredible variety of birds with some areas that they fly free and even can feed them
Awesome place!!..a Pittsburgh tradition..must go if your in Pittsburgh..very educational for the whole family
Amazing place to take out of towners and little ones. I suggest going early because the parking lot is very small. You have to feed the lories!
A nice place, but it feels like it needs an addition or two in order to justify the cost of entry. Kids will love it, adults will likely find themselves less enthralled.
Wonder place, my wife got to feed the penguins and pet them, a little pricy but for good cause, the animals generally happy, bats and sloth a must see
Many different species to observe. The open enclosure gives a very unique and up close experience. A must see if you are looking for fun in the burgh.
I seen a staff member outside cutting down branches and he killed a nest of birds
Didn't take long to see everything, but was really interesting seeing all the different birds. Highly recommended.
Great resource for the city of Pittsburgh. Everything was damp though, and my daughter slipped and fell on her ass. In the Aviary's defense, she is 3 and will trip over a shadow.
Lots of very interesting habitats. We take many of our out of town guests here and they all seem to enjoy it.
A great time for the while family. Can get pricey. Do not bother eating here. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
Overall a really great experience.
We had a great time at the Aviary today. The staff was all very helpful. It is amazing how much they can fit into such a small space. We also paid $5 extra for the Experiencing the Amazon show, and it was definitely worth the money. We will be back.
Will always love this place and what they do for birds and wildlife
This place is incredible! The birds are amazing and the staff and volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable.
My wife and I visited here last year. We had never been and didn't know what to expect. We love seeing all the different types of birds and what regions they come from. We were surprised to find that they have sloths as well. It's a great place to visit if you have a few hours you don't know how to spend. It's both educational as well as entertaining. I would recommend visiting the gift shop and picking up some of the unique paintings that the "artists" have available.
Well treated animals and informative staff. Most enclosures do not have any barrier between you and the birds.
Expensive. Top notch facility but oh man. Maybe charge less for kids.
Some exhibits are under construction but otherwise great fun!
I love this place!!!! It is a little bit pricey for the size of the place. But if you think of where the money goes, it takes a bit of the sting out of it. They used to have free shows but now they have a place o go where they charge you to go watch them. I got pooped on. That was okay because they gave me a free button!!
This was one of my favorite stops while I was in Pittsburgh. The exhibits were great; I really enjoyed being able to walk through and see all of the birds and sloth. It was affordable and absolutely worth the time I spent visiting. I'm in Pittsburgh for a work trip but I wish I could have brough my almost 3 year old son here -- he would have loved it! Lots of different birds - bald eagles, flamingos, penguins, condors, canaries, toucans, owls, etc... I highly recommend a visit to the Aviary - very unique experience.
Fun place, very enjoyable. Take some time to watch the birds!
If you want to experience a rainforest but can't get to one, this is the place for you! If you want to interact with birds and enjoy having them close to you, this is the place for you! I loved this place and it was worth every penny. We even got the chance to feed the birds! Everyone was nice and the place was just beautiful! I will be going again!
Super fun "bird zoo" randomly located in Pittsburgh. Huge eagles, tiny lorikeets, and everything in between. The large exhibit was closed for renovations but there was still plenty to see. I especially enjoyed the large room with the flamingoes and plenty of other sassy birds. Highly recommend a visit!
Cool place to see birds you won't normally see, but it's a bit small and there is not a lot of parking, not to mention it's in a really shady part of town.
Great programs and activities for the whole family.
Awesome and if you have little ones who cant quite tolerate a long zoo trip, have limited time, or less than perfect weather, then this is perfect. It's an awesome place to visit.
Challenging during Covid, but fun. Pricey with exhibits closed.
I loved visiting here, and will gladly go back again in the future. I liked that the place was not huge. You could go and spend 2-3 hours, see everything and it was an easy walk. A beautiful oasis of tranquility in a busy city. Highly recommended!
2hrs was plenty of time with teens. Lovely foliage areas for birds. Fun SOAR demonstration.
A wonderful spot for a date, a family visit, or an event. The exhibits and variety really impressed me, we had a great time!
I really like this place! I have a membership and I visit several times a year to get photos of the birds and to see what's new. They have many species on display as well as two sloths! The staff is very friendly and willing to answer questions about the birds or the facility in general. Also, they have a number of feeding sessions that are, at minimum, viewable to the public and, at most, the public have the option of participating in!
The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of the size of the facility. It's pretty small and a casual visitor not interested in standing and observing for extended periods of time can make it through in under an hour. Luckily, the National Aviary sits in West Park, so there's an opportunity for a stroll through the park or to take the kids to a playground nearby if you're looking for a little more to do without driving.
This is my second visit and it's always a new and amazing experience to walk amongst the birds. Something for all ages
The National Aviary is broken down into several distinct 'biomes' (grassland, rainforest, etc.) with birds representing each region. In the bigger biomes, the birds can fly free, leading to up close and personal encounters (I ended up getting dive bombed!) The exhibits are well thought out, with plenty of info to read and watch. What really impressed me the most was how engaged and helpful the staff are. Every single person I spoke with was more than helpful, very knowledgeable, and seemed to really enjoy their job. Check out the talking parrots in the rainforest area!
Wonderful place to visit. Enjoyable for all ages. The Eagles were amazing. Loved all the different areas that had the birds just flying around in different environments.
Penguin encounter was pretty much booked when we got there, but we also took a chance with it. However, we were lucky enough to feed pelicans, hold an aracari (like a mini toucan), feed lorikeets, and see other wonderful creatures. The staff truly enjoyed being with the critters and were educated in the habits, and care for them. Excellent place and we plan to bring our son sometime soon!
This place is amazing! I did the Sloth Lover's Experience today and it was awesome! It was the most fun I've ever had!
Beautiful place! Interactive and informational. The birds here are so unique and seem to be happy and healthy. You should go!
Cool place to take kids. Will only take approx 1 hour to tour
Wonderful aviary just a little pricey. Kids were having a great time.
Good collection of unusual birds. Good demonstrations and activities for children.
It was fun and great quality time with family members
This is one of the happiest places on earth fie me. I love birds!
Great experience with highly professional staff members.
Haven't been here since I was a kid. Nice family experience.
Lovely aviary. Wonderful collection of our feathery friends, plus a few bats.
A great place to take visitors with a wide variety of birds.
I was here for a wedding reception and it was beautiful!
This was a great experience, I really enjoyed looking at the birds. I was a bit upset whe one of the associates informed me that the only owls there were two burrowing owls, which were adorable by the way, and the rest weren't going to be back till October. But in all I really loved this Aviary.
Beautiful place and beautiful birds. It was well worth the $50 admission for my wife and I, and our two kids. Highly recommend it.
Birds! Baby flamingos. Penguins. Kookaburras. My favorite place in the city. Birds from all over the globe. Everyone is so knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have. And all the great after hours events have been amazing. I can't love this place any more than I already do.
We were married here this spring and it was absolutely amazing! The venue is such a beautiful space, the outdoor garden made for a gorgeous ceremony, and the exhibits were a crowd favorite. The coordinator was helpful every step of the way and available every time we had a question, she helped our day move along seamlessly even with a bit of rain! Atrias catering and staff went above and beyond and the all of the food stations were absolutely delicious! I cannot say entire ugh good things about the best day of our life! 10/10 the National Aviary of Pittsburgh was the best choice for our wedding!
Loved the birds, especially feeding the lorakeets. The bird show was one of a kind, too.
Neat place...the animal encounters are really fun, worth the price (and it supports their animal conservation mission)
Do you love birds? I do, so I loooooooove the aviary!!
Such an awesome place!!!! Kid/family friendly and the staff is super friendly.
I did not except to have that much fun at an "over sized bird cage" but it turns out this was a great way to spend a morning in Pittsburgh.
There are a few birds on display in smaller enclosures, but most of the museum is made up of large ecosystem rooms where the birds are free to roam around with visitors.
I had a bird flying right by my head within minutes of being in the museum. And we saw so many interesting and beautiful birds that I had never heard of before.
Definitely worth a visit.
It's a great place to take the family. Feeding the Lorries is fun. The predatory bird room can be scary for very young children
If you love birds, you'll love this place! The price is very reasonable and when I went it wasn't crowded. Finding a parking space was also very easy
There are two shows that you can see for $5 each per person and they are pretty informative and fun. There are several feedings that you can watch for free. There is plenty of variety of birds. It is perfect for about an hour and a half to an hour visit! There is also a virtual reality ride that you can do for $8.
It's a great place and has many "add ons" like feeding the birds. It's a little small though, which is why I give only 4 stars. What they do have is great and accessible for kids. If you're even a little afraid of birds, don't go, as several of the exhibits allow the birds to fly around the rooms, and birds may fly right by your head! My son was a little afraid of the rain forest area where a large bird came right on up to him. I think it's awesome to have immersive exhibits and most people will love it!
Fascinating place. I love being able to see the birds right up close. I wish it we're just a little bigger. Great job to all who staff and support the aviary.
A nice activity in Pittsburgh. We were able to go when the Butterfly Garden was open (summer)! Fun activity!
A wonderful place to see treasured feathered friends, and a sloth. How cool is that!
There are lots of birds here. If you're into birds this is the a good place for you.
Great place to spend the day, especially if you do indeed like birds.
Great place to chase away winter blues and see a wide variety of birds. Loved the different biome themes.
Liked the place.. have seen the birds which i have never seen before.. there is corporate discount.. mke sure you check that before going.. and also call them and check with them for the showtimes.. sometimes the shows get cancelled due to weather.. definately a enjoyable experience for kids
Hidden gem - amazing variety of birds, great spaces, can definitely spend hours here. Also the best penguin exhibit I have seen thus far. Wasn't too crowded on a Sunday afternoon.
My nieces wedding, it was great, food was good, they brought around different birds to the tables to get pics, didnt know they did these kind of events
Cool place for the whole family. I really enjoyed the penguin encounter, where I got to hang out with my penguin buddy DJ for half an hour.
Really loved this aviary. So much to see. Well kept and friendly staff.
Fun place to go with family. Lots of animals to see. Sloths are quite humorous.
An incredible opportunity to watch and be close to birds you might not otherwise get to see. It s lovely to see them fly around. I ve been several times and enjoyed each visit. I could spend the entire day just in the Grasslands room sitting quietly and watching the beautiful birds go about their day, I absolutely love it.
Wow! We always have a fabulous time at the Aviary. So many beautiful birds of every kind, penguins, to parrots to raptors and even sloths! My niece and I spent the Monday after Easter there so it was a tad crowded. The one large room was under construction so that was a bit of a disappointment. But it didn't hamper our good time. Be sure to get all the extras when arriving and purchasing your tickets. The Amazon show was so cute and worth it. Plus no visit to the Aviary is complete without feeding the gorgeous colorful lorikeets who land on you to drink nectar from a cup. (they could give more nectar... was over super quick). We loved every minute of our visit!
