Comes across as posh, and puts up a good face in the lobby. The rooms however definitely show their age. Bad paint, dodgy carpets and power points positioned in the worst places (why do I need to walk across the room to charge my phone).

We arrived at the midland for a night away for my birthday. Staff were nice on reception and I received a complementary birthday card and cake, which I found very kind. We heard music where we were staying and assumed there must have beeb a function on from around 6pm. We went downstairs to go out for a meal and a few drinks at 7pm and saw that there was a business function on in reception when we left. We came back around midnight and reception area was empty and we assumed any noise would have stopped. We got to our room on the 2nd floor and the music was ridiculous!! I've heard my fair share of nightclubs and this room might aswell of been right on top of it! We rang reception and asked when it would stop and they just said the music will turn off at 2am... for all they know we could of been on business and up early in the morning and they just offered to speak to the manager in the am which is pointless! They should have warned us on check in that we may hear music and we would have asked to be moved or paid for an upgrade.. but the sound was ridiculous.. 100% check there isn't any functions on before booking!

Service could be better, booked a Superior Room for two for two nights and ended up with one robe and one set of towels. No mention to the reception building re-works upgrade, good job we have our masks! Special occasion, 50th and wedding anniversary.....

A very nice centrally located hotel with a long tradition, rooms are clean and big enough for English standards, breakfast is ok but the offer in the vegetarian area and only 2 sorts of the same cheese and in insufficient quantity is too little for such a house! The staff in the whole house is friendly and professional, price / performance ratio fits and overall good hotel!

We visited the spa and were very impressed with the facilities. It all looked very new and finished to a high standard. The lighting and pleasant aromas created a very relaxing environment. The gym features brand new equipment, all with internet and TV. We are going again this weekend and we probably get a membership so we can use the facilities more often.

A lovely stay with very friendly and helpful staff. The only draw back was that our room must have had a drain in a nearby wall and our sleep was occasionally punctuated by the sound of flushing water!

The Midland is still one of the most well-known landmarks of Manchester's city centre. Whilst a couple of the function rooms have been modernised without too much attention to detail (badly plastered holes from old light fittings in the ceiling), it is still grand.

The food and customer services are still very impressive for the money.

This is the second time I have visited The Spa at The Midland, and again, I was not disappointed. The facilities are brilliant, I couldn't fault them. The staff are so lovely and really helpful. The pool, sauna and steam room are in a lovely room which has mood lighting, which makes you feel relaxed. The treatments were fantastic and Emily who did my massage was absolutely amazing! The facial and scalp massage was an absolute dream. I then spent the afternoon relaxing in the relaxation room in a hanging cocoon, with a lovely cuppa tea. I left feeling extremely relaxed. I would highly recommend The Spa at The Midland.

Giving a 4 star review due to some issues we had. First of all, we called prior to booking and the man we spoke to didn't quite know how to take a booking. So we just decided to turn up and book into reception. All was good and a smooth booking registered. Room was very clean and tidy. Except for aircon not working and a few tiles in bathroom broken. For a 5 star and at the price we paid, I'd expect a lot better than this. We had an incident during the early hours where my partner had a serious diabetic emergency. And with the help of reception staff, they were very prompt in delivering (free of charge) some chocolate to help boost my partner's sugar levels. Overall the star at this beautiful hotel was awesome. Except for the few minor errors and the young chap on the phone. Would highly recommend. We both thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. And we will hopefully be visiting again soon.

My husband and myself have just enjoyed afternoon tea in the Tea Room. I can honestly say everything about the experience was fantastic. The staff were great, so pleasant and informative. Cakes to die for, sandwiches gorgeous especially the beef. It made my birthday so special. Thank you all so much. Will definitely be back.

Great hotel, love the history, room's too hot and apparently no windows in the whole hotel are able to open, air con good but what a waste. Service excellent throughout. Room service good, enjoyed the pizza. Cocktails in the bar utterly pretentious, who wants a cocktail with iberico ham in it??
Would visit again

Ok

Gorgeous old hotel with recent modern decor update. Lots of class and style. Went for evening tea there and it was a little expensive and lack 9f staff let it down slightly.
Waited 40 mins for service but they apologised and provided drinks on the house to say sorry.

Too pricy . I made a special request which was acknowledged and confirmed only to get there and it was not done. Our key card could not open our door..room was dusty due to ongoing renovation. Breakfast was a sham. Would not recommend

Ive been staying at different hotels all ard the world
And theres few times i left my stuff in the room
(Laptop, usb cable, thermos bottle) but everytime i went bk to the hotel, the staff always keep the things for me
But this is my first time staying here and I accidentally left my retainer on my table and realized it after i was in the aircraft preparing for take off
I tot the house keeper will kept it or at least hand over to someone in charge since im comin bk to check in again in a few days later but unfortunately they didnt
And my retainer is left on the table and apparently it is personal item and not trash
I know its my mistake that i didnt check the room properly before i leave but it was really disappointing and upset that this is a great hotel but they dont really care and keep the thing for their customers :(

Nicely refurbished. Spa and sauna at our disposal. Booked a deal online and it was good price. I wish it had retained more of the luxury side of this historic hotel. Breakfast was fair for the price we paid.
