The hotel is undergoing renovation and they hadn t got round to the bedroom that I was in which meant that the decor and facilities are dated. The reception and ground floor areas were excellent and the breakfast was tasty but service was disorganised. The location is right in the heart of the city so I might come back once they finish the renovation.

Lovely hotel. The room was gorgeous and the staff were amazing. A couple of issues came up, firstly was the lack of power plugs anywhere near the bed. I'm a smartphone addict and was frustrated that I couldn't charge my phone and use it in bed.

I also had some issues with street noise - despite being in the top floor and facing a quiet street. I assume (though didn't check) that the windows were single glazed, which meant I woke up at 3am to the chants of those being thrown out of bars. I quickly got back to sleep, but this seems avoidable with better glazing. Similarly you will constantly hear the tooting of trams, but to be honest I found this pleasant.

I wouldn't particularly recommend the breakfast. The sausages and bacon were subpar, but the variety of food was great and the service fantastic.

All in all, pretty good, with some annoying drawbacks that don't allow me to give it full marks - however I would return in future.

(Plus, the spa was great, but you have to book slots at busy times)

Very disappointing afternoon tea recently. Arrived early so started off in Mr Coopers: expensive gin cocktails, no coasters, no olives, no nuts. Tea consisted of mediocre sandwiches and desserts which had obviously been purchased frozen. Scones were served with a small spoon of raspberry jam unceremoniously dolloped on the plate. No clean plates or cutlery offered during the experience. 10% service charge added to bill. Overpriced.

As far as I'm concerned this is still the best place to stay in Manchester just don't bring your car as parking is limited. Central to all the shopping with a tram stop outside the front it is convenient for whatever you have decided to do in Manchester. This is an elegant Hotel and is very old school with wonderful service and an up market atmosphere. Even if you are not staying here try the afternoon tea it is a real occasion.

It was a comfortable stay here at The Midland. The room is quite large and the bed is comfortable. The location is also excellent as it is located at the center of Manchester. It takes only a short walk to townhall and Christmas Market and tram station. Also the nearest station, Oxford Road, is just 5 mins away by foot. Really convenient.

Had to cancel our wedding due to COVID and sadly the Midland were the only business we dealt with that were a total nightmare. Refused to refund or even move the date slightly. Took several emails and 2 phone calls just to be able to move it one day. Couldn't get anywhere via email. Then over the phone they quoted a different price which was not honoured until we complained. On arrival they've decided to renovate everything so we couldn't even access the lobby, bar or restaurant which should have been open. Then they had the cheek to say they had been offering refunds to anyone that asked despite us having several emails to the contrary. Sadly I think we see a businesses true colours during a crisis and the Midland are clearly only interested in themselves. On top of that the room was a bloody sauna, the aircon barely worked (we had to put it max fan speed and lowest temp just to be vaguely warm) and the cold water ran hot at night.

I stayed at the Midland for one night on business. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Lovely room - nice, quiet and comfortable. Free wifi and coffee/tea making facilities in the room. No complaints here. Would happily stay again.

Fantastic hotel, friendly staff, great accommodation and comfortable bed. Only issue is with the shower which lacked a little power, but that s a personal preference. Breakfast was fantastic and the hotel s location was ideal for me, and easily accessible. Would definitely recommend. There s good acknowledgement of the heritage and history of the hotel.

Afternoon Tea... Food good. Service shockingly bad... No one cleared table, we had to ask for some of the food and they forgot to serve the promised and paid for mulled wine, no waiter attention throughout.... Very disappointing

Old school grandeur. Bit of a maze finding your way around. The spa is amazing but expensive, if you stay here you must try the himalayan rock salt steam room I promise my skin has never felt better! The only reason this place isn't five stars for me is that even though the rooms were lovely (tradional not contemporary) the beds weren't the comfiest.

I visited for afternoon tea and was disappointed to find ourselves in the midst of a clearing up session in readiness for the bar to be opened later in the evening. The staff were curt and unhelpful and my bill was presented without being asked for, before the end of our service. This was not what is expected of a supposdedly top class hotel. The room was infiltrated by noisy, tattooed wedding guests who were obviously very drunk and the hoped for relaxed afternoon was totally spoilt both by the staff and the unruly wedding guests. Will NOT be returning.

Went here on Friday 7th Dec for works xmas party, worst food I have ever had , service was very poor, thought I was going for a really good evening what a let down.
Really feel for the company boss who spent so much money. Never again hope people read this before booking as I generally never complain.

We visited for the afternoon tea and were blown away by how grand and beautiful the hotel entrance and decor is. The afternoon tea is held on the ground floor just to the left of the main entrance. This room is decorated in a more modern way and perhaps lacked the grandeur the main entrance promised and looks noticeable a little tired and worn in places. However despite this minor detail the service and food was exceptional and considering it was an afternoon tea were not left wanting in terms of appetite! There is plenty of choice in terms of types of tea and even types of cakes, sandwiches and scones to choose from. It's so good a repeat visit is on the cards!!!!

Good central location but tram station on the other side of the road. Very nice staff and good breakfast buffet :)
Keep in mind that it is an old building so some "beauty flaws" occur. But the room was nice and tidy :)

Service was great. The location was good. The price was reasonable. But the room was "tired". I guess they save the best rooms for the rich. We had a disabled room with no grab rail in the shower. 6 out of 10.
